ABC AUSTRALIA, Oct. 19 — The Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s Mark Willacy has published another report from Fukushima.

Transcript Excerpt

KENICHI HASEGAWA, FUKUSHIMA FARMER (voiceover translation): I have absolutely no trust in the Government. I thought they could deal with a nuclear accident, but it is a joke. So now all they do is cover up and hide data. All the while we were exposed to more and more radiation. What the hell are they doing?

MARK WILLACY: [...] But what reduces this stoic farmer to tears is the tragic story of a close friend, also a dairy farmer, who took his own life when told to slaughter his animals and leave his land.

KENICHI HASEGAWA (voiceover translation): When I heard the news, I went to his home and he was already in a coffin. But I still couldn’t believe it. I opened the coffin and then I saw him. I choked up. Before the nuclear disaster, he’d been so happy.

    And there you have it!

Was there an excerpt from a monk allowing radioactive soil with off-the-scale readings as well, or is that somewhere else on the site?

    • lam335 lam335

yes–he’s mentioned in this video. If I were him, I’m sure I would want it dumped there–or, more likely, maybe I wouldn’t mind if they dumped it there because I would have gotten myself out of that place back in March.

      • lam335 lam335

I could not do what he is doing, but that is why I find it so moving. I also find very moving the people who have gone into the exclusion zone to rescue animals–I know I wouldn’t be able to do that either (except maybe for my own pet . . . if no one else was willing . . .).

If only these types of people were the one’s who could be in the positions of power . . .

      • lam335 lam335

That first comment should say “I’m sure i would NOT want it dumped there”

    • Over run with weeds, ? Is radiation playing a part in accelerated growth ? Only 7 months but her description sounds much more !!

  • lam335 lam335

That monk is amazing in his willingness to let people dump the contaminated soil removed from their homes on his temple’s grounds. Fukushima has revealed the true horror that human selfishness, hubris, and corruption can unleash upon the world, but, like all great tragedies, it has also shined a light on the noblest impulses in human nature. We have seen several stories of this kind of self-sacrificing love for one’s fellow human beings in Japan–this monk, the retirees who volunteered to work at the plant, the local official in the other story posted today. There are doubtless many more whose names we will never hear about–fathers who continue working in the prefecture while sending their wives and children away from the danger, mothers who eat more contaminated food to save the “cleaner” stuff for their children…

It is very moving to see the courage and generosity of such individuals. I wish the people in power would see it and be moved by it and change the way they are handling the situation.

Here are some facts that counter the argument that nuclear is green energy, and that Japan can’t get along without nuclear plants.

What the article doesn’t address is the environmental cost of processing of mined uranium and created plutonium to prepare the fuel for use.

Also throw in that new nuclear plants now cost in excess of $20 billion to construct, and that is with no special protection, before the first kilowatt is ever generated.

Send a copy of that to the White House, and forward it to all of the Republican presidential candidates too.

That article is interesting. It goes nicely with Gundersen’s July 31 video “Nuclear Power:101.” As I recall, in that video he also discusses how much energy is wasted in the form of heat (and its impact on the water into which it is released) in nuclear power production.

Yes, it is very moving and tragic and it did not have to be this way…too late now.

    • Au,
Yes, it was too late when they built the reactors but they had no clue,…
“this is the message people should know, once they are filled and begin to fission,.. life as we know IS TEMPORARY !”

With all the man-made modifications to the natural world we have presented to show our mastery over life itself surely GOD himself should make an appearance perhaps grace us with GODSON #2 so HE can forgive us for these new sins. Let’s pray to all the gods just in case some are on vacation and smoke a little pot to help convince yourself just how serious you really are about saving mankind from mankind.

That’s got to be one of the saddest things I’ve ever seen. :-(

In a letter to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission on Tuesday, Edward Markey and Lois Capps, two Democratic members of Congress, said there were eight nuclear reactors on the West Coast and 27 near the New Madrid fault line in the Midwest.

Man, don’t anyone kill themselves over this. You’d just be jumping out of whatever frying pan and into a serious fire. God owns the cattle on a thousand hills, in other words God owns all of them. Jesus wrote the genetic code for cattle. Men have produced different breeds out of that, but God designed them. He loves them as much as a farmer does. He knows what they mean to a farmer. I miss the cows we had when I was growing up, and can still remember all of them and their names. I remember Ruby, a big old black-white face cow, who would look up and give you a special look, asking you to put water in the trough for her to drink. It’s good to be alive. Seek Him who created the genetic blueprint for cows. There’s much more to life than what we realize, or know, and a very bright future is God’s hope for each person. Believe that He exists and rewards those who earnestly seek Him.

No offense intended, but I’m slightly worried by the amount of religious propaganda being posted here lately.

i think our japanese viewers might enjoy this, god willing :)

“Material causes of happiness are the four requisites of life: clothing, food, shelter and medical supplies, and when the use of them gives rise to mental stains leading to downfall, one should restrain one’s use of them. By the mindful and restrained use of these four requisites one can protect one’s spiritual conduct.”

“One should protect one’s precepts just as one guards one’s eyes. Besides this, it is necessary to develop the four skillful counter-factors of the doors to downfall: wisdom, trust, heedfulness, and the destruction of the defilements.”

Morning arclight, lol, I wish you could see my computer screen with a small picture of the chuckling Dalai Lama attached to the frame…reminds me to stay calm in the daily horrors of work…
Everybody finds peace one way or the other…there’s just no need to trying to evangelize folks here, that’s all I meant with my comment.

There are countless sad Stories here at the moment, but i am very surprised how many of the older People here are willing to share this Experience!

The last big Demonstration (09/15) has such a high average of Age, it was really strange for me to see!

    In Japan “Age” means something,
and Politician are (like to) listen to them!

For many of the older ones this is already the second or even third Time that they lost nearly everything, Family, House, the Ground, Ancestors,
    this must be nightmarish!
