Sirens Blare as Flooding Hits North Dakota, ABC News, June 22, 2011:
[...] Although the Fort Calhoun plant [...] is surrounded by an eight foot tall and 16 foot wide protective berm, two feet of water have already made its way to several areas of the Fort Calhoun plant, but authorities say there is no immediate danger at either plant. [...]

Well if it is true the spent fuel pool(s)
are ground level it will make it much easier for the river to circulate and cool the pool. Anyone els hear that calhoun is the main storage hub for all spent fuel in Nebraska? I wonder How much they have accumulated?
If they say theres not a problem … everything must be ok
I think they posted an add on craigslist looking for sandbags hehe

WOW!, now I know there is trouble…lol.

Something is afoot, I just know it.

Yes you can feel it, and it does’nt feel good, not one bit.. Its coming, its clear in the minds eye, something that you hoped was not true, but you know is to be.

They do not store fuel for any other nuclear plants in NE or any other state. That is a rumor. Yes of course I’m concerned about flooding and it is true that the SFP are on ground level and open but it is not the truth about other facilities storing SF at FT. Calhoun or Cooper. Always check your sources as I bought into the same lie until I triple checked.
Report Comment
I don’t know about storing from other facilities..I think they are just storing their share ..Spent fuel is being stored everywhere including Nebraska.

Typical “info”, 80% classified as dog food, thus not included… total displayed in that map is about 62k tons
Approximation: 100 nukeplants, 40 years, 130 tons per year – total will surely be below 900k tons.
Then add the nuke bomb materiel, one reason to have theses wastemachines churning; every 4kW produced -> 3kW is pumped into sea as waste.
Every Nuke 1kW needs 10kW diesel oil in mining, refining. Add Yucca waste on top…

I read in some official type report that it is the designated fuel storage for Nebraska – don’t remember where, but might go google it up.

Thanks, I believe you.

Fort Calhoun:
“During identification and evaluation of flood barriers, unsealed through wall penetrations in the outside wall of the intake, auxiliary and chemistry and radiation protection buildings were identified that are below the licensing basis flood elevation. A summary of the root causes included: a weak procedure revision process; insufficient oversight of work activities associated with external flood matters; ineffective identification, evaluation and resolution of performance deficiencies related to external flooding; and “safe as is” mindsets relative to external flooding events.”
As a result of a Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) inspection conducted from January 1 to June 21, 2010, the NRC determined that Fort Calhoun Station (FCS) did not have adequate procedures to protect the intake structure and auxiliary building against external flooding events. Specifically, contrary to Technical Specification 5.8.1.a, the station failed to maintain procedures for combating a significant flood as recommended by Regulatory Guide 1.33, Appendix A, section 6.w, “Acts of Nature.”
http://www.rense.com/general94/ftcal.htm
“But as the ongoing crisis in Fukushima demonstrates, nuclear fuel remains hot long after a reactor is shut down. When Fort Calhoun is shut down for maintenance and refueling, only one-third of the fuel in the reactor core is removed. Besides the hot fuel remaining in the core, there is even more fuel stored in the spent-fuel pool, which is not shut down. According to a May 2011 report by Robert Alvarez at the Institute for Policy Studies, there are an estimated 1,054 assemblies of spent fuel, weighing 379 tons, at Fort Calhoun. The oldest of these assemblies are in dry-cask storage, which does not require any water or electricity for cooling.”

In jest, why not put goldfish inside the reactor building at
Fort Calhoun where the water is rising. Put a 24-7 camera
on them and see if they survive. If not, then we know the
water is irradiated! With no radiological testing being made
public how else are we going to know. Better yet take
samples out of the flowing river down stream from the plant,
put gold fish in them , cameras 24-7 and post it on Y Tube.
An excellent 4-H project. I think I smell a cover up.

Why that’s a wonderful idea Sam. And because all testing has been suspended in North America (first stop for the fallout) we could all be issued a canary in a cage, we could carry the cute little birds with us everywhere, the store the beach where ever, each with our own little bird…and if one day our little feather friend falls from it’s pirch when then we wil know……….we are next….

The river should probably keep the pool cool enough to prevent overheating, melting, etc… which should keep the contamination of the water well within the Maximum amount allowed.
By the time it reaches Cooper hell itll already be a lil contaminated so whats a lil more gonna hurt ? No need to be making mountains outta mole hills here
Report Comment
The question is; when the waters recede will there be a
functioning electrical system to run the cooling apparatus.
If not, then how long before they can get one up an running
before TROUBLE BEGINS. So, a lill more contamination
in our corn, in our ethanol blends (spewing out irradiated
exhaust) and the the drinking water of millions. I think
gonefission ought to collaborate with Dr. Happy feel good
in Japan.

I worry more about the force of the water washing away the structure…remeber the force of the tsunami in Japan…moved everything in it’s path…..including buildings.
Report Comment
Charlie, I think you shouldn’t worry too much about the force of the water in a tsunami-like way. The force of a tsunami crashing on a coast which is created by an massive earthquake is different from the situation here – water steadily rising, but with possibilities to spread out. There will be lots of long term pressure on the construction, but I think the loss of electricity is the biggest danger here.

Jebus – Obama said ” it is the beginning of the end”… (pause) of the total withdrawal of troops. In Canada (cultural difference) this would be considered a message: it is the beginning of the end.

While HAARP is a weather weapon documented in official EU parlament archives, most cloud rings/holes are not done with it.
Weather radars, cellular towers etc radio transmitters cause intermittently rain -or- no rain rings. See wether radar examples;

No, the real thing going on is to protect Washington. If you go look at the weather, since the start of this, all weather either up and over Washington, or under. Its been unusual weather here. Even today, a low to the west causing most pacific to go up and over. I really don’t believe in HAARP because we just don’t really have the power needed to make changes “weather changes”. Although you think we do, HAARP has such tiny power that its funny that all think its some super machine. its like .00000001% compared to the charge either has already.. an airplane seeding clouds has more impact then tiny HARRP LOL.

“there is no immediate danger at either plant.”
=
“Technically there is no immediate danger at the plant. The plant we keep in the reception area is not in danger. The nuclear plant however is in full meltdown.”

Do these nuclear power plants have FEMA flood insurance?
I guess so, that way FEMA can pick up the tab for all the radiation damage if it should occur.
