Japan ‘scared’ of telling truth to Fukushima evacuees, ABC Australia, September 28, 2011:
Professor Kenichi Matsumoto says the government is too scared to tell people they cannot return to Fukushima
[...] Former special adviser to Japan’s prime minister and cabinet Kenichi Matsumoto has told the ABC that the government has known for months that many who live close to the Fukushima plant will not be able to return to their homes for 10 to 20 years because of contamination. [...]
He says the government is simply too scared to tell Fukushima residents that they cannot return. [...]
“The government should have conveyed the truth to the evacuees. But it felt scared; it feared telling the truth to the people.” [...]

High cesium levels detected as far away as Gunma Prefecture. http://ajw.asahi.com/article/0311disaster/fukushima/AJ2011092812395

Fukushima is 1970 miles from Gunma!
Fukushima to Tokyo is: 137 miles
From looking at the map, it’s OVER halfway to the other side of Japan.

“Radioactive cesium from the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant has spread more than 250 kilometers toward the southwest, reaching as far as Gunma Prefecture, the science ministry said.” – referred article
decimal point alert: (lol), Gunma is 250 km away from Fukushima, or 155.25 miles.
Nothing in Japan is 2000 miles from anywhere.

So I DID get it wrong. Damn it. Posted that to hp too. Oh well. I stand CORRECTED. TY

Don’t sweat it Whoopie. TEPCO have been misplacing decimal points since day one and most of the citizens of our global village haven’t even noticed yet.

Quite true…but the top of Hokkaido to the bottom of Okinawa is getting well over 1500 miles. Free Map Tools is not detailed enough to give an exact milage head to stern for the Japanese nation:

If they hadn’t lost the islands to Russia in WWII it probably would be very close to 2,000 miles.

this looks like a controlled political leak to enforce the Japanese government message about Fukushima contamination.
This leak is nothing else than pure Japanese propaganda.
What the message says is that only the peoples living near the plant need to evacuate, while in reality, people living much more further away from the plant should also evacuate, and the government also knows this.
This is a very weak leak that serves only TEPCO interests. Very regretful that is has been published as if it was the reality about land contamination and the real entire needs for total amount of peoples that really need to evacuate.
While reading this news, we are made to believe that the government thinks that only 80,000 persons should evacuate! This is ridiculously far less than the real figures.

So are they THAT powerful? Are we throwing eggs to the rock?

“He says the government is simply too scared to tell Fukushima residents that they cannot return.”
What a terrible excuse of this government. So lying is better. They don’t like to tell because they have to get them new homes! They better give them new homes quickly! How would you government people and TEPCO would like it if you are homeless for over six months now?
Report Comment
Also replace all the homes that flushed away by tsunami because you government failed to protect the people for example by not building a wall big enough to prevent water from coming in land!
And all stuff people lost beside their homes like cars etc should be compensated!

So, we see what is needed is a “Ministry of Love” to
accept the volunteers for humane, final sleep, with flowers and
nice music, a video of nature scenes from the past, before
the devastation, the clearcuts, the oil spills….
Let’s see, it was “Soylent Green” but also, similarly 1984, or
was it Brave New World?

If I had the Talent, I’d make a video doing just that. Before After type of thing.

They weren’t scared. They were selfish. They didn’t want the Japanese to pull a Marie Antoinette on them-but they are going to anyway.
