Title: Japan’s radiation monitoring unreliable: Greenpeace
Source: AFP
Author: Kyoko Hasegawa
Date: Oct 23, 2012
Government radiation monitoring in areas near Japan’s crippled Fukushima nuclear plant is unreliable, Greenpeace charged on Tuesday, with heavily populated areas exposed to 13 times the legal limit.
The environmental group said authorities were wasting time cleaning up evacuated areas and should prioritise decontamination efforts in places where people live, work and play.
Greenpeace found that in some parks and school facilities in Fukushima city, home to 285,000 people, radiation levels were above three microsieverts per hour. Japan’s recommended radiation limit is 0.23 microsieverts per hour. [...]
Rianne Teule, Greenpeace’s radiation expert
- “We also found that official monitoring posts placed by the government systematically underestimate the radiation levels”
- Some machines are shielded from radiation by surrounding metal and concrete structures
- “Official monitoring stations are placed in areas the authorities have decontaminated. However, our monitoring shows that just a few steps away the radiation levels rise significantly”
- “Decontamination efforts are seriously delayed and many hot spots that were repeatedly identified by Greenpeace are still there”
- “It is especially disturbing to see that there are many hot spots around playground equipment, exposing children who are most vulnerable to radiation risks”

Holy Scat! You mean Greenpeace actually found their vocal cords when it comes to Fukushima! Amazing. Only took them, what, 19 months? To this day there isn't even any mention of the word Fukushima on Greenpeace.org's home page.
Don't worry though, they're onto KFC.

And lets forget Greenpeace went out to measure the spewed shit. And even tried to stop MOX transports to Japan..

Actually, they have been screaming about this since day one, and even before. It only seems like they've been quiet (or silenced) because the LameStream refuses to report what they say. Avoid the propaganda–it works on nearly everyone.

Thanks for the "heads up"!

"Don't worry though, they're onto KFC."
ah, that's because KFC failed to make a donation to greenpeace, they must be upset by that
I am not sure what to make of greenpeace, red cross or even WWF. It seems that there is always someone at the top who is linked with freemason… It hasn't always been like that but it seems that they have infiltrated and now the organisations look 'green' but there are hidden agenda. They say, if you can't beat them, join in so that's what they must have done, only to continue carrying out their agenda.

Always nice to attack orgs for trying so hard to change the world for the better when money is involved.

Handy to blame orgs for our own shortcomings also..

All I said is I have doubt about the organisation's intention. Got problem JustmeAlso?
Or am I not entitled to my opinion for my findings?

reckon they dld a deal with big japanese corp to allow the citizens to do food testing.. big japanese corp stiffed them by blending the contamination down and sending it to america (remeber the radioactive can of peanuts from the usa sourced by fukushima diary -we found that the supermarkets radiation measurement was a decade old..!! they basically fleeced grenpeace using these methods to cover up contaminated food sales..
maybe greenpeace is on the warpath about that?
good to see them moving but no mention of the question of internal and external emitters.. plutomium and strontonium might show a 0.23 mcSv/h air reading.. we know there are hot spots..
the icrp dose measurement is NOT suitable for nuclear accidents with particulate releases on this scale
its only suitable for gamma dose use in hospitals.. and probably not very accurate there if recent radiological incidents are correct…

This Enenws article pertains to the monitoring posts out in the wild, but I think it's somewhat disturbing the lengths TEPCO goes with "protecting" their monitoring equipment.
http://photo.tepco.co.jp/en/date/2012/201204-e/120420-03e.html
Here's one from the Dai-ichi nuclear plants, released by TEPCO themselves, about how they've decontaminated & shielded the measurement posts at Fukushima! Thought the measuring posts are showing the real situation? Think again. If only they approached the protection of their cleanup workers with equal rigor…

does that mean greenpeace will check the "hidden" japanese/usa dumpsites out where the earthquakes hit for contamination of the sea mounds and canyons??
hats right on the nuke dump nearly..
area A2 on this pdf
Fig 1-1-22 wastes dumping areas in the seas around japan
the diagram/map is nearly half way down the page..
http://www.env.go.jp/en/wpaper/1992/eae210000000000.html#1_1_1_3
the whole report discusses profit agianst health..
also talks about land subsidence around japan with special reference to the miyagi prefecture! caused by industry over using the local aquifer that caused land subsidence..
wonder how thats going with possible coriums draining the aquifer?
the A2 dump should be 200 km and the earthquakes are hitting between 170 to 180 km.. basically right on the rift..
and no one is checking this??
no one is discussing this??
maybe the chinese know as they took a stste of the art deep sea submarine (scientific) with them in the november expedition..
the one that got hushed up by noda in his surprise trip to beijing to negotiate silence…
now china supplies all nuke reactors and new build parts… ho hum!

“DON’T ABANDON THE CHILDREN OF FUKUSHIMA” (PART 5 OF 5) -documentingian
Today was my last day in Fuskushima for this trip, and I had asked the Sugano family if I could film their three children (son Koutarou, 9, daughter Kae, 5, and youngest son Shinjirou, 4) getting ready for school.
Koutarou, who leaves for school the earliest, was up before six. He had breakfast and got dressed in his school uniform, which includes a radiation monitor on a blue lanyard around his neck. While his younger brother and sister still slept, Koutarou got in a few more minutes of morning cartoons before leaving for school.

there is an appeal petition (that greenpeace should support imo)on the bottom of the nuclear-news link you may want to view!

Hey, TEPCO reported to IAEA that Daiichi is releasing 0.01 Bq/hr. How could things be getting worse? Surely they wouldn't lie about it.
Report Comment
I assume, you meant 0.01 BILLION Bq/hr:
"TEPCO currently estimates that the total current release rate of radioactive material (cesium) from the PVCs of Unit 1-3 is at most 0.01 Billion Bq/hour. This corresponds to 0.0003 Billion Bq/h at Unit 1, 0.0005Billion Bq/h at Unit 2 and 0.0003 Billion Bq/h at Unit 3.]" (28th of June 2012)
(see here: http://www.iaea.org/newscenter/focus/fukushima/statusreports/fukushima28_06_12.html)
Report Comment
Did they forget about Unit 4? As we look at the webcam..its venting..emissions as well..so 1-3 are the BEST they have for low emissions..I bet ya!
Report Comment
It's all a misunderstanding of terminology. When Tepco releases a figure like "Bq/hour" to the public they don't mean Becquerel's per hour, their unit of measurement is "bullshit quota's per hour".
