Title: Spring brings fallout
Source: Fairbanks Daily News-Miner
Date: Apr 15, 2012
Editorial Editor’s note: This spring, Alaskans read news of how Japan’s Fukushima nuclear reactors were still leaking radioactivity a year after being destroyed by a tsunami. Fifty years ago, Alaskans were worrying about a different source of radioactivity, as explained in this Daily News-Miner editorial from April 12, 1962.
Spring is upon us, but we will have to face more than the return of the birds and the happy loss of the snow, for in this nuclear age the spring fallout from last year’s Russian nuclear tests is beginning to show up. [...]
Fallout, the radioactive debris of nuclear explosions, settles on all parts of the earth’s surface [...]
This we can apparently do little about, and for that matter, little is known about the effects of fallout radiation on the human body. [...]
As we said before, the heaviest concentrations of fallout are found between 30 and 50 degrees North latitude, a zone that includes virtually all of the continental United States.
But before we become unduly alarmed it should be pointed out that the Public Health Service feels there will be no need for special protective measures to reduce human intake of radioactive strontium 90, which may cause bone cancer or leukemia, and cesium 137, which is believed to cause malevolent genetic mutations. Sounds a bit alarmist to me… after all we found a way to blame tobacco, diet, weight gain and lack of exercise to explain increasing levels of cancer, diabetes, heart problems and other rising health problems in our country. Not much attention given to the increasing background radiation levels we are all exposed to. Don't worry, be happy, you can't do anything about it. Sound's very Japanese to me… or is that American?

Research and study of low/high internal/external exposure and effects of man-made radiation is extensive … contrary to most corps.gov assessments …

want some more radiation in your food? -read what was left out of the synopsis above: "
[...]"The present United States plans, unless the Geneva talks on a test ban are successful, calls for the testing of about 25 nuclear weapons of various types to be exploded in the vicinity of Johnston and Christmas islands south of Hawaii for a period of two or three months. " [...]

I live in SE Michigan. This weekend we were walking on Belle Isle in the Detroit River and found a 20×20 area on top of a hill loaded with mutated dandelions…2,3,4,5,6 headed beasts with thick stalks. I took soil and plant samples to send in, but what was really curious was that surrounding areas the dandelions seemed ok…this one area was near a fishing spot where the canadian geese hang out. And they are mostly herbivores, eating seaweed and also small bugs and fish. I will upload the video later and post a link here. I would have expected there to be more evidence of plant mutations in low-lying areas where water accumulates but this was on top of a hill…loaded with goose droppings.

We had weird assed tomatoes last year, all funky with little nubs, kind of pasty, blight hit hard too…maybe this year will be better with more sun, unless we are nuclear infected (our small planter matrix in NW WA).
Hey~ here's a song for the times, from the 80's…Alice sez much in a catchy little number:

His 'I'm a Clone' (from same album) is another pertinent ditty.
OK so I like music, so sue me.
