Alert: Typhoons cause failure of ‘ice wall’ around Fukushima reactors — Highly radioactive water flowing into ocean — Structure “critically affected” — Fears over multiple sections of barrier that have thawed — Expert: “The plan to block groundwater is failing” (VIDEO)

Published: September 6th, 2016 at 12:51 pm ET

Asahi Shimbun, Sep 2, 2016 (emphasis added): Typhoons cause ‘ice wall’ to melt at Fukushima nuclear plant — Rainfall from recent typhoons caused partial melting of the “ice wall” at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant, allowing highly radioactive water to leak from around the damaged reactor buildings… [TEPCO] said melting occurred at two sections of the ice wall… TEPCO officials believe that during the latest typhoon, contaminated water from around the reactor buildings flowed through openings of the ice wall created by the deluge and reached downstream toward the sea… “If there had been an additional 15 cm of rain, (the contaminated water) could have poured out over the ground surface” and spilled into the sea, a TEPCO official said… The Meteorological Agency’s initial forecast said Typhoon No. 10 would bring a maximum 20 cm of rain a day at some locations in the Tohoku region… TEPCO admitted the underground wall of frozen dirt is not working. The company said the temperatures at the two sections of the frozen wall have climbed above zero since Typhoon No. 7 approached Fukushima Prefecture on Aug. 17. The company believes that the partial melting was caused by the influx of water brought by the typhoons and heavy rain in between.

NHK, Sep 1, 2016: Temperatures rose in parts of reactor ice wall — The operator of the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant says due to recent heavy rain temperatures rose above zero degrees Celsius in some parts of an underground ice wall…

NHK, Sep 2, 2016: [TEPCO] says a series of storms have been dumping heavy rain in and around the plant since mid-August, pushing up temperatures in some sections of the ice wall. The utility says wall temperatures to the south of the No.4 reactor rose from minus 5 degrees to plus 1.8 degrees at the highest through Thursday. It adds wall temperatures to the east of the No.3 reactor also went up from minus 1.5 degrees to plus 1.4 degrees. Temperatures in these sections had been higher than others parts of the wall even before the storms. It’s feared that some ice in the sections may have melted as the rain increased groundwater flows.

Xinhua, Sep 2, 2016: “Ice wall” around Fukushima nuclear plant melts in 2 places following powerful typhoons — The frozen soil wall built around the crippled Fukushima No.1 nuclear plant have melted in two places following recent powerful typhoons… raising concerns over effect of the approach adopted by [TEPCO] to reduce the massive volume of radioactive water… [It] melted in two places following Powerful [Typhoon] Lionrock, the tenth of the season, battered the region… Groundwater flowing under the nuclear plant is leaking through the melted parts of the wall to outside and TEPCO is trying to refreeze the parts by injecting special chemicals to the wall, said the reports… The project was considered failed by some outside experts at an earlier meeting called by the Nuclear Regulation Authority…

Latin America Herald Tribune, Sep 2016: [TEPCO] Detects Increase in Temperature in Ice Wall in Fukushima[T]here are fears some sections of the wall could have thawed with the increase in underground water flow… This setback increases pressure on the company, that had barely made progress in bringing down the water still within the reactor basements…

Enformable, Sep 2, 2016: [TEPCO] has announced that the “ice wall”… has been critically affected by rainfall from recent typhoons that have melted parts of the ice structure, allowing new pathways for highly contaminated water to leak from the basements of the reactor buildings… [TEPCO] has had to admit that the $335 million wall of frozen soil and water is not working as designed. TEPCO announced that contaminated water was able to escape from the reactor buildings through the gaps in the ice wall that had melted from the rainfall and likely reached the Pacific Ocean… “The plan to block groundwater with a frozen wall of earth is failing. They need to come up with another solution, even if they keep going forward with the plant,” said Yoshinori Kitsutaka, a professor of engineering at Tokyo Metropolitan University.

Asahi Shimbun, Aug 19, 2016: Panel: TEPCO’s ‘ice wall’ failing at Fukushima nuclear plant – [TEPCO’s] “frozen wall of earth” has failed to prevent groundwater from entering the crippled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant, and the utility needs a new plan to address the problem, experts said. An expert panel with the Nuclear Regulation Authority received a report from TEPCO on the current state of the project on Aug. 18. The experts said the ice wall project, almost in its fifth month, has shown little or no success. “The plan to block groundwater with a frozen wall of earth is failing,” said panel member Yoshinori Kitsutaka, a professor of engineering at Tokyo Metropolitan University… The water becomes contaminated with radioactive materials within the reactor buildings. TEPCO’s plan was to create a frozen wall of earth around the reactor buildings to divert the groundwater away from the plant and into the ocean… But the amount of groundwater pumped from the ocean side of the frozen wall has shown little change from when there was no icy earth wall… [T]he readings above freezing were in areas with high levels of groundwater concentration…

Every time radiation comes on the scene , we lose the planet . They need to consider this, being the reason we have such a short known history.

  • PlowboyGrownUp

"High doses of radiation from cancer treatment can cause severe damage to cells and tissues, resulting in injury to bone marrow and the gastrointestinal tract. The consequences can be fatal. Yet researchers do not fully understand how exposure to radiation triggers this damage at the molecular level." (huh!

  • Isthmus

I can tell you what I know, and it will not be a complete explanation. When a cell experiences radiation, it resists, and dark energy get laid into the genetic imprint, it's the same thing as being suseptable to a disease from your hereditary imprint. The point is that it has created a mental effect, the light energy turns dark, now this where it gets a little gray . The human genetic line has experienced lethal radiation in the deep past, which can be triggered in present time. It is true that all dark energy can return back to light energy, which is our life force. For practical perposes Nacin somehow causes cumulative radiation to be released, and it burned going in, and it burns coming out, so their is an important protocoll to be followed which I can give you if your interested. The mental effect takes Radiation out of the medical professionals aera of expertise, pro nuke people like this

    • GOM GOM

Hit the brakes here. Are you suggesting that cumulative radiation damage can be remediated?

I have some news for you. When a cell is slammed with kinetic energy from fast moving ions, it's game over. Whether it's low-dose over time or extreme from nuclear blasts. Deposition of irradiation is whole body. It circulates through the blood and is excreted in feces and urine, doing serious harm in the process.

Ions are produced when radiation interacts with matter. It is for this reason that it is called ionizing radiation.
MATTER, NOT DARK MATTER. Dark matter is a theory. Dark energy is so poorly understood that the term is barely even defined.

Mount Sinai 'Research' is pushing some shit that cells can recover damage to their DNA with a combo or chemo & drugs. Give me a break from that BIG PHARMA horseshit.

"When a cell experiences radiation, it resists"..Geezus Cripes

  • Isthmus

Space is not a subject easily understood as science likes to see something. So lets hyper jump to the bottom line. If I had cancer from radiation and I took 300 to 500 mg Niacin always with vit-c, for x amount days, I might turn the situation around. If I had an intense itching on the skin from X-rays and I took Niacin, perhaps 20 min. later I have reaction and the reaction finishes, notice that the intense itching has stopped , my nervous system has relaxed. and you might feel a little cool because I just lost some body heat. It's good to remember that in science there is no such thing as impossible. The reason I'm here is I believe we have entered a period of being in a survival mode, and it's time to put some meat on the table, I really can help.

Nuclear power must be stopped NOW, that's the endgame killer at this time in history… That's right here, right now stuff to truly pay attention too (and little else).

If you think a big boom (nuke war) is going to get you tomorrow, just look at the current radiation outputs from nuclear power plant killing machines TODAY and know that it's a silent killer! There is no big boom and no one want's to believe that something like this is actually happening…

Nuclear boom in the sky can't be denied and the radiation output stops in a millisecond.

“Starting 32 years ago Donald Trump has spoken publicly about nuclear weapons much more and much more alarmingly than Hillary Clinton. During the present presidential campaign the candidates have almost totally avoided and ignored – an ominous and dreadful concord of denial and silence – this, the only “issue” that rivals climate change in its threat to the fate of life on earth. In contrast, though, Trump, in his campaign, has been showing his attitudes and some of his thinking on the subject. He has been brooding about nuclear weapons during much of his adult life.

“Trump believes nuclear weapons will certainly be used again. He fears the proliferation of heads of state who are mentally off and will use them against us. In the 1980s he said that the deterrence that works with the U.S. vs. Russia wouldn’t work with, in his example, India v. Pakistan. He has contemplated the U.S. bombing nuclear weapons plants in foreign nations. Three decades ago he revealed a hope and plan he had to be the chief negotiator for the U.S. with the USSR. ‘The Big Two,’ as he said, would plot and act together, we with trade power and they with ‘their powers of retaliation,’ to coerce or force other nations to abandon their nuclear weapons so that ‘[b]etween those two nations you have the power to dominate any of those countries.’…”

None of the above, a simple fact that's now a very stupid, deadly, unmanageable and very large problem…

…and it's all done for short term (upfront) money and power.

Simple answer(s)? STOP ANYONE that (even starts) to produce these heavy/light metal child killer nuclear power plant poisons.

That's genocide for the entire human race and every other living thing on this planet too (a "no brain er").

              Get it? OK maybe not…

Here's some folks that NEVER need another dollar of grant money to continue their work, that's right I said NO grant money and someone needs to teach em how to build a real house…

              Habitat for humanity?

..anyone that gives them money to continue this research (thorium or any nuclear power tripe) should be held responsible by law for the inevitable outcome!!! If we did this simple thing…

"Anyone that profits from this (nuclear power) will be held personally responsible if it messes up and kills someone."

…NO ONE WOULD EVER get involved with nuclear power!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

              NO MONEY FOR THIS IDEA!!!!

…it's the same ole lie in a different suit and we know it.

              • How about a simple change to fix it?

A company is not a person, people that make decisions for the company and build it's products that wind up harming others and the environment should be (and will be) held accountable…

Think that'll change some decision making????

Now there's some potential good news.

Keep lettin em get away with this free money crap while even insurance companies want nothing to do with this gamble (and the house always wins)??? What does that say?

STOP IT NOW!!!! It's pure poison insanity and a complete scam!!!

Yea they'll fix our nuclear waste problems by making more and concentrating the ones we already have? obbbb? what?? huh???

                Pure BS…

While I totally agree with the absolute fact we MUST eliminate nuclear power and it's waste in all forms.

It's kinda like gun control, if you control the guns the only ones that will have them will be criminals. Will we be able to defend ourselves against a criminal intent on killing us (and that doesn't care what the law is) without equal force? Nope…

If someone breaks into my house and is intent on doing me harm and has a gun (illegally) what's to stop them if I have no defense against it?

Oh what about making it public that I have a large gun and am a expert with it?

Then the gossip is… "don't break into that house, that guy has a BIG gun and knows how to use it!!!"

Think about that one for a moment…

Does that keep the piece? Yepper, you bet it does!!!!

Same thing goes with a few pounds of material at the top of a rocket.
It's basically safe to keep a gun (if trained to do so). It's not safe to take bullets and throw en on a lit stove.

Tons of useless material that will poison the entire world without making a sound.

A VERY little bit of electric energy that costs us a whole lot of money (and lives) and in the end it's nothing but waste to get rid of (and you can't ever get rid of it…).

        That's the real battle!!!

Another Nuclear Reactor In Japan Is Leaking Radioactive Water
    Feb 24, 2016
“A nuclear power station in Japan is leaking, this time the Takahama plant, about 380km west of Tokyo. The radioactive water leak comes amid a nationwide push to restart reactors after the catastrophic meltdown at Fukushima five years ago.
The reactor would have been the fourth to come on after the shutdown. The push by the government and utility companies came amid protests across Japan against the continued reliance on nuclear energy, prompted by failures to get the Fukushima crisis under control.

“Now Kansai Electric Power says about 34 liters of radioactive water have escaped the plant’s reactor No. 4. An investigation is underway.”

75% US Nuclear Plants Leaking Toxic Tritium Radiation Into Drinking Water Supply

    Published on Feb 7, 2016
“This all is happening, nuclear and private companies: ruthless operators! Be aware. Safeguard nature, all life. This was reported on June 22. 2011. What is happening now!?
Has this problem been removed? No! You better check your water!
They need to be closed all down this reactor, no one of them is safe!!
Radioactive tritium has leaked from three-quarters of United States commercial nuclear power sites, often into groundwater from corroded, buried piping, an Associated Press investigation shows.
And the number and severity of the leaks has been escalating,
even as federal regulators extend the licences of more reactors across the US. Tritium, which is a radioactive form of hydrogen,
has leaked from at least 48 of 65 sites, according to US Nuclear Regulatory Commission records reviewed as part of AP's year-long examination of safety issues at ageing nuclear power plants. Leaks from at least 37 of those facilities contained concentrations exceeding the federal drinking water standard – sometimes at hundreds of times the limit. While most leaks have been found within plant boundaries, some have migrated offsite, but none is known to have reached public water supplies….

    • Dr. Anne Lee Tomlinson Maziar PraisingJesus(Eashoa’ M’sheekha)

At three sites – two in Illinois and one in Minnesota – leaks have contaminated drinking wells of nearby homes but not at levels violating the drinking water standard. At a fourth site, in New Jersey, tritium has leaked into an aquifer and a discharge canal feeding a bay on the Atlantic Ocean. The US Environmental Protection Agency says tritium should measure no more than 20,000 picocuries per litre in drinking water. It also estimates seven of 200,000 people who drink such water for decades will develop cancer. The tritium leaks have also spurred doubts among independent engineers about the reliability of emergency safety systems at the 104 nuclear reactors situated on the 65 sites. However, federal and industry officials say the tritium leaks pose no health or safety threat. Tony Pietrangelo, chief nuclear officer of the industry's Nuclear Energy Institute, said impacts were "next to zero". Corrosion has occurred for decades along the hard-to-reach, wet underbellies of the reactors – generally built in a burst of construction during the 1960s and 1970s. An industry document said 38 leaks from underground piping had been found between 2000 and 2009 with nearly two-thirds of those being reported during the past five years. Subsurface water not only rusts underground pipes but attacks other buried components, including electrical cables that carry signals to control operations. …

      • Dr. Anne Lee Tomlinson Maziar PraisingJesus(Eashoa’ M’sheekha)

. A 2008 NRC staff memo reported industry data showing 83 failed cables between 21 and 30 years of service – but only 40 within their first 10 years of service. AP found the leaks sometimes go undiscovered for years. Many of the pipes or tanks have been patched, and contaminated soil and water have been removed in some places. Mistakes and defective material have contributed to some leaks but corrosion is the main cause. And, safety engineers say, the rash of leaks suggest nuclear operators are hard put to maintain the decades-old systems. The Union of Concerned Scientists reported in September that more than 400 known radioactive leaks of all kinds of substances had occurred over the history of the US industry. Nuclear engineer Bill Corcoran said that since much of the piping was inaccessible and carried cooling water, the worry was if the pipes leaked there could be a meltdown. Mario Bonaca, a former member of the NRC's advisory committee on Reactor Safeguards, said: "Any leak is a problem because you have the leak itself – but it also says something about the piping. Evidently something has to be done." An NRC taskforce on tritium leaks last year dismissed the danger to public health. Instead, its report called the leaks "a challenging issue from the perspective of communications around environmental protection" but admitted they had "impacted public confidence". The industry has also been trying to stop the leaks by drilling more monitoring wells and replacing old…

piping. So far, 66 reactors have been approved for 20-year extensions to their original 40-year licenses, with 16 more extensions pending. Regulators and industry have also worked in concert to loosen safety standards to keep the plants operating.

I'm not gay. I'm not a trannie and I have no fantasies to be a trannie or to be chased by trannies.

I've been sexually inactive for 46 years, never had a sexual disease. It is obvious that a Christian woman needs to be chaste and alone if she wants to be free to fight against nuclear pollution and other kinds of environmentally pollution. I will never let anyone compromise my Christian ideals or to divert me from my mission in life.

I have no desire or fantasies to ever be sexually active again. I'm 76 and all I want is to work for the environment for the sake of my children and the children of the world. All I want is peace and quiet and I've earned that right.

I was outside the fence, walking down the sidewalk on the same side of the fence as the person looking into my yard, so I saw the whole person looking over the fence and I followed that person down the sidewalk a ways, and that person turned half way around and waved at me so I could see the rubber face. He was wearing very long black pants, and the stilts were sticking out on one side. And the arm that person waved was probably an arm extension to match the leg extensions. My son says that plasterers wear lifts like that

                      Cyberstalking attack #10,115.

I am not a trannie or a teller of trannie stories. I did not start that subject here at all.

I never said that person was a trannie. The person was wearing men's clothing and I couldn't see the face under the mask. Are you telling me that person was a woman dressed as a man? How would you know?

I never started this discussion on this website. It was you and your friends.

I did report the incident to admin and one other of a shorter person in men's clothing and a different rubber face mask. It was you or your friends who brought up the whole subject in public on this website, not me.

                    • Dr. Anne Lee Tomlinson Maziar PraisingJesus(Eashoa’ M’sheekha)

And then there was the incident of the lesbian who accosted me in my church choir. That was a big mistake because many people saw that person who was there only once sitting in the alto section.

I have also seen that person dressed as a man sitting in a chair in front of an apartment building dressed as a man only one half block from my house.

I don't have a car that I can afford to drive. I have to walk everywhere with a walker and the bus stops closest to me are .5 to .75 miles away.

This kind of harassment from the pro nuke community is really sick.

Trying to destroy this website is also in such an underhanded way is also really sick.

No wonder no one wants to post here.

The one time I saw a man in women's clothing, he didn't have a rubber face mask on. And the two times I saw a rubber face mask (they were two different masks), I thought it was a man in men's clothing and not a trannie at all. The one time I saw a trannie he might have been 6.5 feet tall and not 7 ft. tall. But please leave the subject alone. The police told me that a photo would be helpful. So I assume I will never have another chance to take a photo. And I never would have contacted the police except for all the terrible attacks I receive here all the time on this website. It just doesn't add up to anything positive at all. Why don't you just stop the attacks and deal with the scientific articles.

If you would stop attacking me, I would just do research. All the attacks are just to take up my time defending myself so I can't do research.

It's the babysitting that needs to get fixed and we should all be able to do that ourselves, as adults, especially on a subject as serious as the "Nuclear Power" world ending pollution problem!!!!

And there are 1000's of forums to post political jabs at our officials, 1000's…

And you wonder why there are no new topics being created here…

    • OK that sounded kinda like a rant so let me clarify…

This is our free room, we don't pay rent to live here.

The very least we could do is stay on topic and keep it clean or dad will not only kick us out, dad will tear this house down and haul it away with a stroke of a keyboard key and build another one without all the clean your room, that ain't done right (babysitting) jargon!!!

Now there's a nuke to think about..

      • Agreed CodeShutdown, the truly frustrating part though is all the distractionary dribble that would be better served and publicized elsewhere on the web, especially if the intent of the author is to make a real difference on their "off topic" subjects and get their message out.

It's frustrating to see the crazy crap discussed here about stuff that has NOTHING to do with power problems! Don't forget, this is the ENERGY news forum. This is NOT the all things politically incorrect according to you (or the Mandela effect) site.

Kind like going to the doctor with a headache looking for information and finding out he only talks about feet (and probably doesn't know much about either of them if that's what he chooses to talk to you about)….

        Really? Wrong doctor? Eh?

        Wrong forum too…

The one thing we would know for sure is it wouldn't be the building or the room or the bench you were sitting on that was wrong.

It would be the doctor spending (and wasting) time talking about your big toe when the problem you went to get a solution to was a headache.

Majia – 'You can read my paper here:'
      Page 17 of the paper:
"The technological assemblages instituted in the twentieth-century freed genotoxic elements from their matrices, such as lead, arsenic, and uranium, and synthesized a staggering array of industrial chemicals that permeate all physical and biological systems on earth. Recognizing harms, social regimes of governance were deployed to reduce health and environmental impacts. However, policy efforts were ultimately quite limited everywhere by exclusions and still allow vast quantities of toxins to be released into the environment. For example, the US Toxic Substance Control Act excluded genetic and endocrine effects in its risk assessments until updated in 2016. Genetic effects are still not included."

    • PlowboyGrownUp

Page 18 "in 2015 the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission cited cost concerns when cancelling a $8 million, multi-year National Academy of Science study aimed at examining cancer rates among people living within a 31-mile radius of seven nuclear power plants (Sforza, 2015). The study would have included an epidemiological component aimed at tracking cancer rates among people living within the radius and an exposure component aimed at gathering and map-plotting decades of plant data on release of radioactive gasses and liquids.
Research on the biological effects of atomic radiation in naturalistic settings suggest adverse effects exceeding those predicted by standard dose-effects models."

It is full of info folks, take a read of it.
This is the draft version as she states on her blog.

    • PlowboyGrownUp

Pages 24-25 "The incoming California Kindergarten class of fall 2015 – spring 2016 was reported as having a 17 percent year-over-year increase in autism diagnoses (Reese, 2016). This spike is approximately three times the year-over-year trend. Was Fukushima fallout
detected by the US Geological Survey responsible for this increase (see Wetherbee, Debey, Lehmann, and Gay, 2012)? The question could be studied empirically, but is unlikely to be because of the politicization of ionizing radiation and nearly every other toxin produced in excess by the military industrial complex (e.g., perchlorate). The evolving paradigm of genomic instability has the potential to reframe understanding of the human genome in relation to an environment that is cast increasingly as in crisis."

Obama predicted that the rise of technology needed to be managed to give world citizens more control, beyond the simplistic answers found online.

      His German counterpart agreed.

“Digitization is a disruptive force, a disruptive technological force that brings about deep-seated change, transformation of a society,” Merkel added.

She compared the internet to the invention of the printing press, citing the consequences it had on industrialized countries.

“It took a while until societies learned how to find the right kind of policies to contain this and to manage and steer this,” she said.

Sam, yes. Was corresponding with someone from this group in 2011-2012. She was certain she had gastrointestinal issues from Cesium 134 and 137 in her food. If memory serves, she had her food tested, and she was in fact reacting to the Cesium. IMO and I haven't had lab testing done, if there is sufficient Cesium in my food, it causes me to have severe gastrointestinal symptoms. Have had to give up some "high risk" foods, i.e., some meat and dairy because of this.

Berries from Washington and Oregon also caused these problems sometimes. When my berries came from Chile (in 2011-2012) it wasn't problematic.

When these products are sourced from what I perceive to be relatively "clean" sources (and of course that's relative these days) there isn't so much of a problem.

Would have to have my food tested, though, to know for sure what I'm reacting to.

FWIW and my two cents' worth. W/O lab testing it's just conjecture, but certain foods from certain areas have caused the same issues for me, over and over. It comes on as cramping in the abdomen (sometimes severe) an hour or so after eating. The next day, diarrhea. Leaves me feeling very exhausted.

Had episodes of wasting, too, for several years after 3/11. Not so much now, but consume a lot of anti-oxidant foods and healthy vegetable oils from "clean" sources.

  • Sam Sam

Thanks HoTaters for you in depth response.
About berries—all of them are absorbers of radiation
and are up there along with mushrooms etc…. does not
really matter whether organic or not with accumulation
of nuclides. i do eat organic berries as perhaps the benefits
outweigh the risks. no mushrooms though.
There are good articles on radiation enteritis.
I personally have no gut issues yet. this would be an
