LINK TV, Oct. 21 — Dr. Helen Caldicott appeared on the LINK TV program Earth Focus to discuss the Fukushima crisis and other nuclear issues.
Caldicott received her medical degree from the University of Adelaide Medical School. In 1977 she joined the staff of the Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Boston, and taught pediatrics at the Harvard Medical School from 1977 to 1978. She worked to establish the group International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War which was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1985. -Wikipedia

- Nuclear power is a ‘Trojan Horse’, a camouflage for the nuclear weapons industry…
- Japan did not want nuclear power after Hiroshima and Nagasaki…
- Any country that has a nuclear reactor — be it Syria, Saudi Arabia, etc. — has a nuclear bomb factory…
- Each reactor makes 500 pounds of plutonium a year… all you need is 5 pounds to make a nuclear weapon…

as linked b4, nuke warheads have to be cleaned of plutonium 240 all 3 month (as they may detonate without ignition when older). the wiki article did not explain what happens to the plutonium 240. but the increase in mox use may be a clue. i mean it is artificial (not mined) and everyone has mountains of it, strange……

“…nuke warheads have to be cleaned of plutonium 240 all 3 month (as they may detonate without ignition when older).”
That has to be the silliest thing I’ve read on this board in a long time.
Sorry, but it just does’t work like that.

Look at the Japanese plutonium “safe limits” —>
=============================================================Prescribed safe limits for alpha-emitting nuclides of plutonium and transuranic elements:
=============================================================
1 Becquerel per kilogram Infant foods
1 (Bq/kg) Drinking water
1 (Bq/kg) Milk, dairy products
10 (Bq/kg) Vegetables
10 (Bq/kg) Grains
10 (Bq/kg) Meat, eggs, fish etc.

P.s. did oilbama just decide to pull US troops out of Iraq suddenly, or have I just had my head stuck in the nuclear news sand? Same day Khadifi guy dead….. hmmmm

This is definitly untrue. Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Japan and many others do not have bomb factories.
Especially in the cases of Germany and Japan, the US would have never allowed them to be able to make bombs.

“The CIA has reported that Japan’s nuclear power program was not limited to the peaceful production of electrical power. The program had its roots in a secret weapons program that caused the CIA to conclude as far back as 1964 that Japan could assemble within months a nuclear weapon.”

This is no primary source. Anyone can write this.
But anyway. Germany has no bomb facilities. This is enough to say that the video is wrong.
Please don’t get me wrong. I am not pro-nuke. But if we really want to fight nuke power and bombs we have to argue with proven facts and not fiction. Weak or wrong arguments help the nuke lobby to destroy our credibility.

Here is the Curriculum vitae of the author who wrote the article, Mr. Joseph Trento:
Joseph Trento has spent more than 35 years as an investigative journalist, working with both print and broadcast outlets and writing extensively. Before joining the National Security News Service in 1991, Trento worked for CNN’s Special Assignment Unit, the Wilmington News Journal, and prominent journalist Jack Anderson. Trento has received six Pulitzer nominations and is the author of five books, including Prelude to Terror, The Secret History of the CIA, Widows, and Prescription for Disaster. Joe currently serves as the editor of DCBureau.org.
It sounds like he qualifies as far more than your comment, “Anyone can write this.”

I worked for 4 years for nuke safety. I no longer want it anymore. Believe me, there no other thing than military nuke industry. That is the real purpose of it.
And even if many countries around now have some Z-bomb, they will keep nuke reactor running, just in case : even having 100 times the power to erase humanity is not big enough for generals.

“Germany has no bomb facilities.”
True. Instead we still have an unknown number of US nuclear warheads here (at the Eifel mountains).
Report Comment
Right. Only we in germany (and perhaps some other countries) are so stupid to run nuclear reactors without the need for weapon plutonium…

this is untrue
here in GER no nuke`!
i fight 30 j again Atom ( again pershing in neighborhood was my start)
and this year we win ! any plants going off here !

look at the international plutonium ciircle where all that crazy stuff is trafficked around the world all the time.
japan and germany are in some aspects still war-loosers, doing exactly what america wants. The problem is not the old revenge and war shit. the problem is the smaller countries do the washing (plutonium laundering like money laundering) for the big players because there capacity is not enough to get rid of the mountains of plutonium and there is absolutely no save storage space anywhere except in reactors.
Report Comment
save = safe
and storage space in reactors is safest possible, not safe.

Beseitigt werden kann das Plutonium nur in Form einer Endlagerung nach einer Vermischung mit anderen atomaren Abfällen oder durch eine Umarbeitung in MOX-Elemente.[66]
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plutonium
unfortunately german, will come back later with the english referral. Some of the Pu isotopes decay spantaneously which is undesired in nuke warheads.
addtionally:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weapons-grade:
Weapons-grade plutonium is defined as being predominantly Pu-239, typically about 93% Pu-239.[1] Pu-240 is produced when Pu-239 absorbs an additional neutron and fails to fission. Pu-240 and Pu-239 are not separated by reprocessing. Pu-240 has a high rate of spontaneous fission, which can cause a nuclear weapon to predetonate. To reduce the concentration of Pu-240 in the plutonium produced
i am 100% sure to have read that the refinement has to be done all 3 months, but have not saved the link. just to verify that given “bullshit” is not 100% a dream
Report Comment
only to summarize it: nuke warheads are so full of burning death that they cant wait to explode. to hinder them there is a special care needed for the complete lifetime of every nuke warhead with Pu in the arsenal. it has to be cleand from time to time. and the only way to get rid of Pu ist to store it or do MOX. as there is no final store facility except nukeheads and MOX, MOX is the only way to get rid of Pu.

Sadly, the White House petition for “end taxpayer subsidies for new nuclear reactors” is going down to defeat Sunday (10/23) for lack of 800 signatures. You can still sign on at:

Seems like it just needs more time to circulate the petition. What’s the procedure…can the petition be re-submitted without losing the 4,200 signatures?
Report Comment
This is just IMPOSSIBLE. I’m losing the last bit of faith in humans.
Come on, a lousy 5.000 signatures! I can’t believe it. I don’t want to sound arrogant, but in our country (which is half the size of Texas) we’d need 8 hours to achieve that.
It’s so sad.

Dr. Caldicott also won the “Humanist of the Year” award in 1982.

Technically, what Dr. Caldicott says in the video is this —
“…And any country that has a reactor, be it Syria, Saudi Arabia, you name it, they have a bomb factory because each reactor makes 500 pounds of plutonium a year, plutonium lasts for half a million years, and all you need is 5 pounds to make yourself a nuclear weapon, so if by selling nuclear power abroad, which America is heavily into, it is causing proliferation of nuclear weapons, which it says it’s not but it is, and that could trigger a global holocaust between Russia and America…”

Yes Mack,…she even went one sentence further,…then trailed off the thought. She said, “Basically they (Weapons makers) hide their deeds behind the nuclear power plant,…, like a store front cover,…”
Report Comment
She also said some other interesting things:
Plutonium can remain mutagenic for 20 generations. (mutagenic/birth defects)
The body thinks plutonium is iron, so it stores it in the liver where it can cause liver cancer, and in the bone marrow where it can cause bone cancer and leukemia.
Tritium (highly carcinogenic), xenon, argon, krypton, carbon-14 released from nuclear power plants.
@6:00 she gives her strong opinion of the downplaying of the one million deaths attributable to the Chernobyl meltdown.

@ 8:00 in the video she’s asked about “deformed children.”
If nothing else, listen to her 1 1/2 minute answer!
