Title: A look at the radioactive water leaks at Japan’s Fukushima nuclear power plant, and the risks
Source: Associated Press
Date: Sept. 4, 2013

[…] Q: How much radiation-contaminated water is leaking into the sea?

A: Experts estimate at least 300 tons every day. And that’s just from one of two major sources: groundwater that flows through contaminated maintenance tunnels and pits on site. Water with even higher levels of radiation is believed to be escaping through cracks in the basements of the damaged nuclear reactors and their turbines and slowly making its way through the ground to the sea. Exactly how much is unknown. Plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Co., or TEPCO, even says there is no clear evidence of any leaks, though it acknowledges that possibility. […]

"Major source” of ocean contamination from Fukushima not revealed…"
Corium debris in the ground under reactor buildings has been the main source of groundwater contamination, since the days after 311. No wonder the Ocean is far more comtaminated then TEPCO believes it should be.

P.U.N. knows that a lot of nukerods got blown sky-high in 3/11 and a lot of that hot-stuff is scattered in the water offshore..

We have several efficient methods to locate the hot-chunks sitting on the sea-bottom.. Underwater drones that swim like torpedoes in a grid pattern just inches off the bottom can do detection mapping, but this might be too complex to implement quickly..
..a quick method is to drag a tarp that is painted with zinc-sulfide across the bottom after dark. The zinc-sulfide tarp will glow in the dark when it's ontop of a hot-chunk.
..areas of the bottom that look highly contaminated should be suction dredged ASAP to prevent further spreading.
Clear-water without dirty-turbidity over a tarp is a pretty good rad-shield, and divers in lead-lined Jim-suits can cut-tarp and pick up hot fuelrods with long blacksmith tongs.

After the seabottom is cleaned of nuke-litter 1000meters out from the breakwater, then we can begin building a new bigger sealed-off breakwater. A double wall breakwater with a bunch of zeolite & graphene mud pumped in between the two seawalls to make a cesium & strontium proof impenetrable barrier.
Then under the outer barrier wall another ice-wall can be drilled into the sea bottom to prevent water flow underneath.

If the new outer breakwater/seawall is built in a circular-arc then it can be part of a foundation for a giant ferrocement dome sarcophagus cover roof that will likely be required after the situation is stabilized.

Worldwide there's over 50+ nuke reactors built on the seashore..
[I don't have time to double check exactly how many]

There is enough beach-built reactors to justify the expense of building a special purpose giant mega landingcraft ship fitted with a huge bow-crane and all the specialized machinery designed for the safe recycling of nuke-plants. It could be bigger than an aircraft carrier, flat bottom factory ship, hoverbarge air-cushion nose.. the forward 50% of the ship can be fitted with shielding and drainage filtration.. big enough to swing the doors open and swallow a whole dirty reactor, then pressure-wash it down, cut it into ingots, and remelt it into mildly radioactive pipe for oil wells or other uses where it will not have future contact with life.

…a mega nukeplant Godzilla Gobbler Ship

Maybe the most expensive ship ever built, but it will save more lives than an entire Navy fleet of ships… the right tool for the job.

It could be used for gobbling up nuke-ships and submarines too, saving valuable shipyard risks.

@faust.. yes, electronics and radiation don't mix well..
Fluidics-hydraulics & pneumatics can do amazing stuff in remote-process tele-manipulation.

Thank you this is the first well thought out suggestion that I have seen that offers some time of solution that might work. Seriously how can we get this proposal to the people that make the choices in Japan? Clearly you have put a lot of thought into this as the research i did about what you suggested is entirely plausible. Of course they will have to build dedicated nitrogen producing plants at site for eternity to keep wall frozen, but hey at least we might have a planet to live on in 30 years(provided #4 doesn't blow up.

Speculation of details doesn't matter. Problem is too large to deal with. Nuclear is a gamble, and we lost.

It's been painfully obvious for many of us that this is the end of the Pacific. Governments and their lapdog media must be held accountable!

They all knew what was happening in March 2011 and chose to keep humanity in the dark and helpless.

They knew when it blew that many of you were going to die a very painful cancer ridden death and they have been scrambling ever since trying keep you shopping and distracted.

The corral boards can not/should not be damaged ever, if its at all possible..

The money must flow up one way or the other, and as long as it still flows up, all is good!

After the defeat of Nazi Germany many Western government leaders and regular folks said that they had not really known about the Holocaust. They had no idea. The New York Times had refused to cover reports about the horrors in the camps during the war, and published maybe a couple of brief reports during those years, on page 30 or so.

What I would like to see is a project where our fearless leaders are confronted with all the ugly details of this catastrophe and asked point blank what are they going to do about it. I'd like scientists to go on record too. With only a few honorable exceptions, they've been mostly silent or just paying lip service to the issue.

Fukushima has all the potential of being worse than all genocides put together.

I'm hoping that someone will take on this project of putting all the political and scientific elites, and all the environmental activists on record. Not that it will help much, but it's necessary from the MORAL point of view.

It's time to expose who knew what and when. There is a major crime being committed right now, and all those with the means or the influence to do something about it must come clean.

They must also explain why there is still no permanent international task force to deal with it and its future effects – or even the intention of creating one.

Very well said! I'd like to see (don't have the expertise myself) someone set up a website as a "Hall of Shame," so at least the basics of HOW egregious this has been and is ongoing, is out there. We need direct, shocking, in-your-face education for the public.

Well, all the german scientists who were Jewish were leaving Germany
for the USA and the United Kingdom, early in 1933. Hitler sacked all Jews from University positions etc etc.
So yes, the western leaders actively recruited these
scientists, who left germany because they knew they would be executed if they stayed. The west knew very well of the holocaust
but could not do anything against the german army for 4 years or so.
It would be bad for moral to publicise the extermination camps.
In 1947, 2 years later, the Jews were killing many palestinians
and stealing the land which belonged to them.
Half of Israel is stolen land, so that is why september 11 occurred. The USA made the mistake of siding with Jews, who had
basically invaded the Palestinian land, for occupation.
The Jews are as almost as bad as the Nazis.

Right now the problem is that the world is fixated on the WW3 scenario playing itself out.

People like to see explosions, bombs and fireworks and nuclear radiation just doesn't get the attention of the "American Idol" masses.

Sadly it will take them crapping blood to wake up.

The global culture has turned all life catastrophic events into some sort of reality show entertainment and ocean wildlife washing up dead on the beach just doesn't cut it for them.

  • weeman

Pure speculation and best senario, let's hope they are right and corium is not ex vessel, but to be realistic not likely and the containment is only breeched.

" Never enters groundwater, flows directly through ground"

    What a curious statement..

[Videos] Groundwater flowing to reactor1 turbine building and incinerator building

"In the incinerator building, groundwater was observed flowing in from the seaside. They also detected the water current on B2 floor."

    Groundwater or seawater..being observed.

Groundwater reached the ground surface in one more observation hole

"Tepco was commenting the groundwater level can be unstable due to the impervious wall construction. However, the water level in this boring had been stable on 9/3/2013, which contradicts Tepco’s comment."

    • davidh7426 davidh7426

If it's seawater that's flowing in then that would mean that it's tidal.

Which makes me wonder just how much contamination is being carried out of those buildings / wrecks by the tide each day that isn't being accounted for by TEPCO clown academy.

  • Only in this way can have any guarantees. In the video you can see something that looks like just a little smaller diameter pipes and uszcelnienie vertical. You have to repeat the same with horizontal pipes at reactors ..

This is what I was talking about…

The groundwater term is so confusing in the articles on here..

  • We Not They Finally

They still can't get the words CORIUMS or MELT-THROUGHS out of their mouths? It's still cracks and leaks and basements? Can't go on much longer like this.

    • ftlt

We: The article did not deny corium or melt-throughs..

It just said a large part of the radiation going into the ocean is from surface water – not pre existing "ground water"..

Again, again and again, "Groundwater" is a confusing and misapplied term here…

There can be many different sources for groundwater in the leakage discussion here… This person was discussing one of them..

Deep aquifer water, upper water table water, applied coolant water in the ground and runoff would be the 4 breakdowns I would like to see used in the discussion… They can be quite distinct or mixed to some degree
