Title: Japan Earthquake Anniversary: Fukushima Meltdown Risk Early Known, Documents Reveal
Source: AP

Just four hours after the tsunami swept into the Fukushima nuclear power plant, Japan’s leaders knew the damage was so severe the reactors could melt down, but they kept their knowledge secret for months. [...]
The revelations were in documents released Friday, almost a year after the disaster. The minutes of the government’s crisis management meetings from March 11 – the day the earthquake and tsunami struck – until late December were not recorded and had to be reconstructed retroactively.
Chernobyl vs. Fukushima
- Five days into the crisis, then-Prime Minister Naoto Kan voiced his fears it could turn worse than Chernobyl
- After seeing a series of explosions and fires at reactor buildings, Kan on March 16 cautioned his Cabinet about a possibility that the Fukushima crisis could be worse than the Chernobyl accident
- “The amount of radiation that could be released from those reactors could be larger than Chernobyl. We must keep cooling the reactors, whatever it takes. It’s going to be a long battle,” he said, according to the minutes dated March 16.
Daini Worries
- Kan was particularly concerned about a spent fuel pool inside the No. 4 reactor building, which had the largest number of fuel rods and rising water temperature
- “We should worry about the Unit 4 pool, whose temperature has been on the rise,” he said, adding that other spent fuel pools at the Fukushima Dai-ichi, as well as four others at the neighboring Dai-ni plant could also deteriorate

This show that those so call leader just want to save their ass than save the people. Those on the top should be fored to do hard labor in Fukushima site.

"kept their knowledge secret for months" …why does the nuclear industry do that?

Its fraudulent.

Why does the nuclear industry lie…cause they can…we the people, let them.

WHAT ARE THESE DOCUMENTS?
Are they reconstructed minutes? Who released them?
I cannot believe that they've not been HEAVILY CENSORED.
One wonders how bad it really is?
It certainly is WELL BIGGER than Chernobyl, as I commented in my blog today

This article linked in the headline is part of a well-coordinated propaganda effort
[I am NOT implying that Enenews administrator is propagandizing--we have to find the kernels of information worth extracting from the propaganda and the administrator here is very good at that]
The article ends with the Chairman of the IEAE stating that nuclear power is stronger now and that humans learn from their mistakes:
article concludes "But Fukushima provided the lesson for the rest of the world and nuclear safety is stronger than a year ago, he said in a statement Friday from Vienna…."
TODAY'S WSJ has a similar story:
Wall Street Journal: "Nuclear Pushes on Despite Fukushima"

As I look back over the past year I am stunned to think of how much misinformation TEPCO and the Japanese government has released regarding 3/11. So many times we pondered their comments to try to find such kernels of truth as we could. They so often contradicted their own press releases that we gradually came to understand how little validity any of them contained.
For the last few weeks we have realized the truth as it relates to our own country. So many federal agencies covering up so much. The FOIA documents posted on the NRC website revealed a cover-up far worse than that of the Watergate. Nevertheless, we learned some bitter truths from those documents. It is sickening to realize how many have died and will die as a result of the cover-up.
I hope everyone who visits enenews will take the time to meet somewhere on Sunday to remember the suffering of the Japanese and to work together to fight nuclear power in whatever way they can.
All thanks to Admin for this thread.

Japan kept their mouth shut and treated the whole world like they do their people in Japan

"Nevertheless, we learned some bitter truths from those documents. It is sickening to realize how many have died and will die as a result of the cover-up." – I think the second part was on these pages for a long time. Recent Admin`s posts proved the cover ups! It is about morality and responsibility, without which every science, technology, invention turns into destruction. The more powerful, the more destructive! Storing and spreading nuclear waste for the next generations is a total irresponsibility, done by greedy, stupid or immoral humans. We have no chance, expecting resposible behaviour from them. Try to see the reality, and take your own responsibility for your life, your health, your freedom; help others,if you can – that`s what I learned.
