Hydrogen accumulates in pipes at Fukushima’s No. 1 reactor, Asahi, September 24, 2011:
Hydrogen has accumulated to a level higher than previously thought in pipes connected to the No. 1 reactor containment vessel [...]
The nitrogen injections are believed to have lowered the hydrogen concentration considerably, but some hydrogen, being lighter than nitrogen, may be accumulating near the top of the containment vessel without being driven out. [...]
Nor could TEPCO measure how much hydrogen may have been generated in the containment vessel. [...]
TEPCO said it is investigating the possibility that hydrogen has also accumulated in a similar manner at the plant’s No. 2 and No. 3 reactors. [...]
Where does TEPCO think the hydrogen is coming from?
TEPCO said most of the accumulated hydrogen was generated by a reaction under high temperatures between water vapor and the surface of nuclear fuel rods that were exposed after water was lost following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
Even now, the damaged reactors may be generating small amounts of hydrogen as water decomposes through irradiation from the melted fuel rods.

We’ve expected that, haven’t we…
“Gov’t to allow ash containing over 100,000 becquerels of cesium per kg to be buried”
(…) “From now on, ash with radiation levels of over 100,000 becquerels is required to be solidified with cement and can be buried at facilities where measures are in place to prevent the seeping of rainwater and the leakage of contaminated ash to groundwater.
The ministry is also considering utilizing existing permanent disposal sites that are surrounded by concrete walls to bury toxic heavy metals or those sites equipped with measures to stop such materials from leaking into groundwater.”
So, ALL radioactive ashes with no matter what levels will be buried all over the country. Nice.

GEOMAGNETIC STORM WARNING: A pair of closely-spaced CMEs propelled by explosions of sunspot AR1302 on Sept. 24th are heading not-quite directly toward Earth. A significant glancing blow to our planet’s magnetic field is possible on Sept. 26th around 14:00 UT (+/- 7 hours). NOAA forecasters estimate a ~25% chance of geomagnetic storms when the clouds arrive. [CME forecast track] Aurora alerts: text, voice.
STRONG SOLAR ACTIVITY: Having already unleashed two X-flares since Sept. 22nd, sunspot AR1302 appears ready for more. The active region has a complex “beta-gamma-delta” magnetic field that harbors energy for strong M- and X-class eruptions. Flares from AR1302 will become increasingly geoeffective as the sunspot turns toward Earth in the days ahead.
On Sunday, Sept. 25th, Dutch astrophotographer Emil Kraaikamp took a magnificent picture of the active region, which is so big only half of it fits on the screen. Click to view the entire sunspot:

Nine million in chile without power
Nine million people were left without power in chile..everything suddenly went down nobody has a clear explanation why, maybe with the current sun activity could of they been hit by a large cme and its being covered up..
Anyhow guys i thought id put it to you people to help shed light on this event and give your opinions as to what actually happened.
Chile seems to be at the centre of a lot of environmental activity lately.

Don’t you just love their idea to send “experts” to help with decontamination:
“Japan does not have much experience in this area, he said, adding that some people were spraying water and digging up the earth in an attempt to clean up their homes.
“These things should be done properly, otherwise the amount of debris becomes huge. I hope we can give some advice.”
SP: Yeah…we know how “properly” the cleanup went at Chernobyl…

Horrible horrible news. But like I said, we knew it was coming. I want out of this country. I want off the world. They have got to be kidding us. They are ALREADY subsidized by our Taxes with all these old reactors. Now they want MORE!?!?!? No I’m not shocked. It’s what HP’ers have been saying all along. They will DRAIN THE POT for every last dime we have. Good grief. It’s one thing to think about it, it’s another to SEE IT IN PRINT. I’m pissed.

The most probable source of free hydrogen is a chemical reaction between corium and cement. The corium IS still molten, and it HAS escaped it’s “thermos” through the bottom where the control rods are inserted. It’s the most logical explaination……

In June TEPCO discovered that the water in the pool was strongly alkaline: the pH had reached a value of 11.2. Leaching of calcium hydroxide (portlandite) or calcium silicate hydrate (CSH) from the concrete could have caused this.

The fact that we’re not in the process of shutting down every reactor more then 10 years old is enough to tell me we are doomed. All this increase in solar activity with a weakening magnetosphere. They have warned of huge power outages yet the 35 year old reactors continue. Humanity fail

“The gas would likely evaporate in only a few days time…”
lmao… UNLESS IT WAS TRAPPED INSIDE A CONTAINMENT VESSEL.
also, how exactly does a gas evaporate? lmao.
hydrogen is tricky, it consist of just a proton a neutron and an electron. the smallest thinkable atom. it diffuses easily through massive steel and nearly anything else (even as H2, the normal form). when it meets carbon on the way (nearly all steel has carbon in it) it could form methan gas, which weakens the steel by stealing the carbon and building up pressure in the steel as methan is a gas. it is not easy to contain hydrogen.
Report Comment
knowing that the question is more: why is there still hydrogen when it left containment month ago, and on which way did the massive amount of hydrogen left the reactor initially, just in big amounts. the previously described “diffusing through” does not mean sees no borders, it is slowed by steel but it goes through. as it is only in a pipe it really may be a leftover

A possible different theory as to why hydrogen gas is formed is as follows:
As larger atoms break apart (fission) into smaller atoms, the smaller atoms can no longer hold as many neutrons as the larger atoms could. The excess neutrons attach themselves to protons in nearby molecules, and peal off those protons from the nearby molecules, thus forming the heavier isotopes of hydrogen (deuterium and tritium).
(See this link for a chart (Fig. 1.1) showing how, as the proton number of the nuclides increases, the neutron number increasingly exceeds the proton number:
http://www.onafarawayday.com/Radiogenic/Ch1/Ch1-1.htm )
As larger atoms break apart (fission) into smaller atoms, the excess neutrons need to find some place to go.
If cooling water is available, the excess neutrons may attach to the hydrogen isotope protium (containing no neutrons) in the water molecule to become the hydrogen isotope deuterium (containing one neutron) in the water molecule, or to become the hydrogen isotope tritium (containing two neutrons) in the water molecule.
If cooling water is not available, some of the smaller atoms, that the larger atoms need to break apart into, may include deuterium or tritium which then form hydrogen gas, thus giving the excess neutrons some place to go.

Japan’s nuclear safety agency has instructed the operator of the stricken Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant to check if hydrogen is building up in its No.2 and 3 reactors.
This is after the Tokyo Electric Power Company, or TEPCO, recently detected hydrogen in a pipe leading to the …
