(Subscription Only) Title: Despite more water, radiation still high in Fukushima reactor
Source: THE ASAHI SHIMBUN
Date: October 11, 2012
Emphasis Added
[...] Questions also remained about the location of the melted fuel. The maximum radiation level of 11.1 sieverts per hour was detected at a height of 8.6 meters from the bottom of the containment vessel.
Radiation levels generally fell toward the lower parts of the containment vessel. [...]
[Masayuki Ono, acting general manager of TEPCO’s Nuclear Power and Plant Siting Division] said it is difficult to identify where the source of radiation is from the available data.
The company believed that almost all melted fuel fell through the bottom of the pressure vessel and accumulated in the outer containment vessel. Under that scenario, radiation levels would rise toward the bottom of the containment vessel. [...]
TEPCO said radioactive materials may be flowing differently in the two reactors. The No. 1 reactor was successfully vented, while the No. 2 reactor was not.
This website first reported the radiation dose inside the Unit 1 containment vessel increased as elevation increased: Mystery Continues: 'Difficult to determine' location of melted fuel during Unit 1 investigation, says Tepco -- Radiation dose highest at top of containment vessel

maybe the melted fuel splattered all over the inside of the containment when the hydrogen exploded. They have to pictures of the golden melted fuel fused to the containment.

That is exactly what I was thinking as nobody has any idea exactly where all the corium went and it probably did splatter. Also the small amount of water is probably shielding the corium that is under water but it doesn't seem to be cooling it that much as there is so much steam. Hmm, I wonder how hot the corium is at this point in time.

Or, uranium and other elements could have vaporized, then precipitated onto surfaces higher in the reactor.
But what is clear is this: There is little corium remaining in Containment1.

"The No. 1 reactor was successfully vented…"
vented = HIGHLY radioactive contamination ejected into the atmosphere
I don't think 'spewing' radiation should be associated with the word 'successful'.
Report Comment
A vent stack with a scrubber and steam reclamator were built onto the Unit 1 building after the explosion to try and capture as much of the aerolized radiation as possible. This is the venting they are probably referring to rather than the initial venting in the first days. A bit like closing the barn door after the horses leave, but, it helps some.

"The No. 1 reactor was successfully vented…"
Extrapolating upon Tepco's flawed mindset, it seems that #3 reactor had the most successfull venting of them all.
Again, the squirrel is pointed out, by Tepco, while the snake sinks his fangs in and poisons the planet.
First rule of detective work: Never let the criminal do the forensic analysis of the crime scene…

Also it creates so many other radioactive substances like silver, gold, etc. Hard to say what is clinging to the sides of the vessel and causing the variation.

DETOX Radiation
I copied the entire article below on DETOX, I didn't write it. But want a ready resource. Reading some nuke and conspiracy sites, the promotion of potassium iodide is "Amazing". Just one quick note. Radioactive Iodine is one of the most dangerous isotopes released in quantity during a nuclear meltdown. It goes to the thyroid and get sucked in there just like normal iodine. You should have Potassium Iodide on hand just in case, HOWEVER, you should not be taking it like a vitamin. It is only good during a big event. Too much Iodine will mess you up. Yet the hucksters who want to sell something seem to ignore this fact. Disturbing, fear mongering for money while doing damage to people.
Here is the DETOX article, I have not vetted all of it.

I suspect that "the fuel is everywhere" is probably most accurate. In the dry well, in the wet well, condensed in the upper portions of the pressure vessel and the PCV as well as inside the miles of pipe attached to the PV and PCV and in the blown up containment building as well. How much vaporized and fell into the ocean? Enough to warrant pouring concrete everywhere. A large amount is probably found in the bottom of the DW. I noticed a big chunk of something in the video that reminded me of the "elephants foot" from Chernobyl.
I noticed around the edge of the grating gold and grey/silver material was pilled up as well. What else could that be but corium?
Seeing how bad it looks in there I don't see "decommissioning" happening in our lifetime.

Great summary. thatmonk. I don't see decommissioning either given this is currently beyond any of our technological capabilities.

I suspect that their probe was saturated with radiation as it approached the bottom and as a result gave a convenient false reading.
Report Comment
The corium is sitting at the bottom of a deep hole. Most of the radiation produced will not penetrate thick concrete or soil — its mostly gamma and beta– so the radiation is projected up like a flashlight pointed upwards.
No mystery here, unless you believe the corium is still in containment. Even the NRC believes the core is X-vessel

I'm an old guy now 60 I myself have less to worry about. However I WONDER indeed we all wonder the fate of our childern. For sure I still have safe rice and beans. But have long run out of safe water to cook with. One way to look at it, I myself and many others are worth much more to our corrupt goverment dead than alive.
