Preliminaries, as potential lawsuits look for standing in the courts, it's a drill down to ultimate guilty parties (GE for one). Not expecting any successful decisions but exposing events as they actually happened might smarten up the public.
If some sailors and dependents were issued stable iodine tablets then others in and related to a service were not issued the same, they are going to wonder why.
How is issuing iodine tabs as a precaution a bad idea? TEPCO had 24 hours to warn the nearest populations of impending dangers. It was confirmed when Unit 1 blew up and the rest followed. Not that iodine tabs protect against all other radionuclides being released or continuous releases of radioactive iodine, might have given a few young and innocent a chance. Better chance if evacuated.
Unit 3's plume was blown offshore initially, plenty of time to issue evacuation orders before the wind changed to onshore…someone needs to be sued just to prevent the scenario from happening again.

OK, but it's supposed to take somewhere on the order of 48-72 hours to flood the thyroid with protective Potassium Iodate, or another form of iodine to protect the thyroid. Not that anyone had that much notice, anywhere near Japan.
My family began taking Potassium Iodate (had some on hand we purchased years ago) back on 3/11. The plume was supposed to hit on 3/18/11 in the U.S. (West Coast), but as we now know, the first waves of radiation hit here on 3/15/11. We also prepared our house for sheltering in place. Not that any of these measures did a whole lot of good, in retrospect. Only time will tell. The "official" forecasts, even from NILU, were downplaying the risk. I doubt anyone outside some of the "inner circles" had any idea how bad the radiation releases were.

Excuse me, we began taking the Potassium Iodate on 3/12/11, as soon as we heard there may have been meltdowns.

HoTaters: I can't find the amount of time it takes to flood the thyroid after taking iodine tablets. I thought uptake was immediate and saturation depends on how deficient a body was to begin with.
You can take iodine tabs before or at the beginning of an event for up to 10 days in the recommended dosage, some people will have side effects but the good outweighs the bad. The first dose will last 24 hours to 48 hours.
When saturating your thyroid with stable iodine, you are actually taking about 700 times the recommend daily intake.

BTW, Tincture of Iodine (in that bottle you use for cuts) seems to be just as affective when applied to a couple square inches of the skin for absorption.

I think may come to realize this is not simple negligence. We shall likely see such things as collusion and intent to conceal vital data… not mere negligence. Just like Japan and TEPCO. It's criminal.

It took awhile, and many military personnel died, but the government finally took responsibility for Agent Orange exposure in Vietnam.
It may take awhile, but it might make a difference in future health care. These military people are the tip of what's to come for all of us non-Japanese. They are the 'canaries in the coal mine'.

Do you really think they'd risk losing everything, including benefits for their families, and risk getting jail time for faking symptoms just because they couldn't be transferred? Or do you mean they got so sick that they jumped on the lawsuit in retaliation? Fukushima has never been contained so they have been drinking contaminated water and eating contaminated foods this entire time.
Do you think that they were somehow sheltered from the Fukushima radiation when the rest of the islands were not?
If they've illegally filed they could have just gone with a traumatic stress or mental impairment claim and asked for documented treatment.

It's very obvious from the video that the military's own safety standards were not properly followed, but I do believe TEPCO did have a responsibility to inform the US Military of what the actual conditions were in that geographic area before allowing personnel into the area who were not properly outfitted or equipped for the mission.

First meeting with the officer in charge of XXX syndrome had his comment of XXX syndrome does not exist.
Suffering from XXX syndrome, I know it existed….after that meeting I also knew I'd never see any help for it.

Having been exposed to a lot of radiation, watching the last "75" nuclear above ground blasts, & spending time on Bikini Atoll, it replaces your disc matter with a fatty substance. Your bladder, if left untreated has mega problems. You get bone cancer, like my dad, huge thyroid tumors like my mom, and leukemia or lymphoma which leaves you really weak. Guess which ones I have. I am a tough old bird still here promoting the "IMPEACHMENT AND OR ARREST OF THE TREASONOUS PRESIDENT OBAMANATION" who continues to poison our 50,000 troops in Japan, and our nation "4" times with totally unnecessary fallout. Mega worse than what my down-wind and upwind family experienced in the 1950's. John Wayne, as his film crew in 1956 all died of fallout related deaths in Monument Valley.

Home, I support your efforts. All you say is true, and would like to know more about John Wayne's film crew…will look into that.
As for yourself, then know there are those of us out here that pray things get better for you personally.
All administrations are culpable back to Truman and his predecessor that are to blame, but as you point out, any POTUS that puts 50,000 troops in harm's way without the proper tools to defend themselves should not hold the office.
Of course, that's why there is a Bill introduced to make Obama supreme Dictator, and without Term Limits.

John Wayne and the film crews were shooting movies in New Mexico and were near radiation areas, they all got cancers.
