New Data Supports Previous Fairewinds Analysis, as Contamination Spreads in Japan and Worldwide, Fairewinds, August 21, 2011:

At 7:30 in (Transcript Summary)

Arnie Gundersen, chief nuclear engineer at Fairewinds Associates:

  • Lots of serious ramifications from burning of nuclear waste
  • Material from Fukushima that was on the ground is now going airborne again
  • Towns now getting cesium redeposited on them by the burning of nuclear material
  • Clouds of radiation recontaminating areas deemed clean or low
  • Continues across to the Pacific Northwest
  • We are basically recreating Fukushima all over again

Don’t worry, if it falls out here on leaves or trees or crops….we’ll just burn it and send it aloft again. Kinda like ‘Hot Potato’ for grownups.

  • suzie-Q

Just a thought…can you add color and a stink to radiation so we can see and smell it???

    • Steven Steven

You mean the way they add sulphur to LPG so people can detect the ‘egg’ smell? Too bad if you’re allergic to it, same goes for the sulphur they put in the auto fuel instead of lead. Much better… it only makes some people sick.

Iodine 131 apparently has a taste–a metallic taste.

Unfortunately, by the time you are able to taste it, you’ve probably already gotten too much of it.

      • Bobby1

For two weeks in April, I had the taste of a mouthful of pennies in my mouth. It was so bad that I was drooling and I kept a towel on my desk to wipe it off.

        • Terranigma1 Terranigma1

bobby, about two years and a year before Fukushima, I also had a metallic taste in my mouth for several months. This metallic taste did not happen just twice, BTW. Knowing what I now know about living near the most hazardous nuclear plant in the world and about some leaks in another nuclear plant nearby, plus the fact that they are probably off-venting these plants (EPA radnet data showed positive readings for plutonium 238 and 239 in the air), I have to attribute this taste to nuclear emissions. What else would cause a metallic taste? Strangely, I do not have that metallic taste since Fukushima.

    • Nukeholio

But if they did that, the entire planet would be full of grafitti and stink.

Professor Koide of the Kyoto reactor institute: [Our generation won't see the end of Fukushima]

Mr.Koide has been pointing out crucial risks and they all have turned out to be true.

Mr.Koide states,Fukushima nuc plants are too damaged. It will take almost forever time to get it settled. Our generation will not be able to see it ending probably.

The Russians knew this, and people suffered dearly to prevent the destruction of Europe, i.e ” the liquidators”. I fear that most nuclear nations do not have a culture that is capable of facing these situations. American polititions seem to live by “when there is no clear solution, do nothing.” Humans are certainly not responsible enough to be dabbling in these technologies.

Arnie Gunderson really speaks as a nuclear industry proponent. He thinks that the NRC assessment is wrong “that the nuclear power plant containments failed and were breached with debris landing far from the power plants themselves” and that he, Arnie, is correct that it was only the SPF at reactor #3 that exploded in March. He never says that we should discontinue use of nuclear power. At most he concedes that if the NRC is correct, “Such a failure of the containment system certainly necessitates a complete review of all US reactor containment design and industry assurances that containments will hold in radioactivity in the event of a nuclear accident.”

    Yikes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sequoia National Forest in California was purposefully set on fire by our government this summer as part of an ongoing effort to help preserve the Redwood Trees.

The smoke from these fires in Tulare County was horrible. We had a town meeting regarding the fires where local county health officials, park officials, and firefighters where present. Unfortunately, almost no local residents showed up.

I did however, “stand up”, and ask them if any testing had been done regarding Fukushima Fallout. (probably a good consideration I thought) I then stated, that burning of the underbrush and wood might not be a very good idea as it could make fallout become airborne again.

What I got was mostly a bunch of blank stares. I did get one reply that testing of the air and soil had been done, but the results were not back yet. (I’ve heard that one before.)

I swear it felt like I was at a meeting in downtown Fukushima talking with Japanese officials.

So, they send in our firefighters, without actually knowing the facts and risking their futures and the futures of those down wind. I also think it would have been prudent to do the testing prior to setting these fires and then a decision could be made as to whether this was a good year for burning.

Either the Federal Park officials AND/OR the county Health Department officials are total idiots or completely negligent. It can only be one or the other. I should also mention that their is ‘funding’ for for the Trees which does give firefighters jobs and helps protect the giant trees, but maybe we should have passed on it this year. If you get my drift. (and maybe you do, especially if you live east of Tulare County, California)

If those test results come back positive do you think they will tell us of their folly? I doubt it.

One official at the meeting did try to pass the buck off to the EPA. (sound familiar) Stating that there was no concern for radiation because the EPA said so. “It’s like riding on an airplane…” he stated.
I did advise him that ingestion of a particle cannot be compared to riding on a plane. Again, more blank stares.

So… We are all in the same boat or on the same plane.

    We ARE all indeed…. Fukushima’d!!!

Note: Maybe this is part of the reason we are seeing some higher readings around the country. Without more reliable testing…. who knows?

Here’s proof that the government only cares about trees, not human lives.

When I contacted my representatives about the ongoing Fukushima radiation being dumped on the U.S., they were totally clueless.

and NOT a warning from Bush/Obama and his appointees. (I’m starting to get them mixed up!)

That’s what gets me–this is the whole scale desecration of our extremely valuable lands & potentially our personal health, but there are NO public health advisories or agricultural warnings whatsoever….None?!! For Plutonium? Uranium? Cesium? Strontium?…*Prevention* can remedy a lot of this problem. Even Arnie says it CAN be fixed with effort.

    • For a ‘right on’ retrospective watch the video about half way down the page.

      (under this heading)
Longtime NUCLEAR WATCH SOUTH coordinator Glenn Carroll faced off with Georgia Congressional Representative Phil Gingrey on Atlanta’s NBC affiliate 11 Alive Saturday morning, March 19, 2011. Popular Atlanta newscaster Karyn Greer moderated the debate about nuclear power and the Japanese nuclear disaster.

People of Georgia you really need to see this. It is blatantly obvious that this guy, Representative Phil Gingrey, is a professional politician.

Hats off and two thumbs up for Glenn Carroll of “nonukesyall”. Knowing what we know now it’s crystal clear that Glenn’s observations were the factual ones, not complete political spin like Phil Gingrey spewed.

I especially like how he states that a containment can never fail because the walls are so thick. Well, guess what, Mr. Phil Gingrey, your idiotic dialogue has been captured on film for all time.

Please, people of Georgia and elsewhere, DO NOT allow these puppets to be re-elected.

A great website. Highly recommend! ‘nonukesyall’

About 1:50 in where the Congressman gets technical with his erudite knowledge of reactor vessels. >;->

Must have learned those tidbits of now-discredited knowledge at the Japanese steakhouses in Washington courtesy of his favorite lobbyist!

To be fair this was March 19 and Rep. Phil the Shill may not have been privy to the insiders scoop about the impending massacre of the steel vessels by Fuku Units 1-3. But it’s funny to go back to see these what we know now as ludicrous statements.
