A grim and personal reminder of the thousands of lives lost in last year’s earthquake and tsunami in Japan is drifting toward the West Coast — shoes.

Some in pairs, some individual, shoes of all sizes and types are now washing up on the beaches of Washington and Canada.

[…]

On the Canadian island of Haida Gwaii, where some beaches have essentially turned into landfills of tsunami debris, piles of shoes are set aside by beachcombers.

Before picking up debris check for radiation with a Geiger Counter

  • I've sent samples to a lab. Soon we will have proof of the derbies showing levels of radioactive contamination.

Me 2, posting on enenews made me hate the iPhone's auto correct. Here's how you turn it off:

I do not log on much, my ENE password is a challenge from a touch pad… Typed from an iPad and often from and iPhone when traveling. I struggle with history possibly left or tracked from IT from my work Mac Book Pro. Lately, I lurk rather than log on… Keep up the great work and mangled expressions from our tools of choice with touch pads.

  • I can understand your frustration. I designed a time travel app for the iPhone, and because of auto-correct it only lets you travel into the furniture.

Why don't they do the responsible thing and shut down all the beaches from the San Francisco bay to Alaska? Because people will put one and one together. Catastrophic nuclear accident in Japan and stuff from Japan landing on my doorstep equals catastrophy at my doorstep. To the average Joe and Jane, the dangers of nuclear stuff seems to be rejected from the mind. The widespread use of nuclear power has definitely desensitized the people into a state of stupid fearlessness. I don't see a problem in shutting down the beaches except for the fact that a lot less people will die of cancer from the contamination. There is that overpopulation thing we so often hear about. Congested highways, long lines at the grocery checkout, and unemployment are real problems don't ya know. Sarc/off

      Hi hbjon

If they shut the beaches down, think what it would do to the tourist season, or the high price homes located on the beach front property.

They don't want to alert the public or we would see the report levels that they are seeing.

If they don't admit it, then it isn't so, and nuclear power can keep ticking.

Only the highly privilege knows and has a place to be safe.
Hope they haven't forgotten the token few who can serve and be charged high prices. They need to keep seeing those high profits each year, so they can pat each other on the back.

Their people should get ahold of my people. I have a real humdinger of an idea. We open Japanese theme parks up and down the coast, right on the beach. In California it could be called "The Tsunami". In Oregon we'll have, "Fallout Farm". In Washington, "Glowing Shipyards". In a central location we have, "Cancer Camelot". This is where everyone goes for top notch diagnosis and treatment. I apologize if anyone is shocked by this suggestion at first, but when the entrepeneur in you thinks about it a while, it grows on you. (Cancer Camelot is the intellectual property of hbjon)

While the ship called Japan is sinking financially, they can keep playing music, drinking champagne and toasting the nuclear engine that opened the Pandora's box of horrors.

Canada will be one of the first countries to suffer.. from it's complicity.
    Pristine beaches..now waste dumps.
    Where are the environmental scientists?
    Sucking on their knuckles?
I find it odd..that the pier that washed up…had to be "sanitized"…but tons of debris …is not being tested.
Why? Perhaps..they would find out that hundreds of miles of shoreline covered in this stuff..would have to be "sanitized".

Washington State..will be told what to do and say by the US government.
As will other states..unless pressed to do otherwise.
Washington will use the withholding of federal funding…as leverage.
State governments involved…need to examine their positon carefully.
They must use their rights..before they don't have any.

Its not just nuclear power, its everything. Political Correctness has dumbed us down to the point of mental retardation. The media is a total Corporate/Leftwing religion. Because of the left-leaning outright bias, the corporations come in with impunity, by funding them. The media are all Elitists with ties to corporate power, even though they are 'left of center'. All the 'right wing news' is on the web, or radio, if that.
