Kyodo News, Jan 30, 2017 (emphasis added): Possible nuclear fuel debris sighted under damaged Fukushima reactor… [Tepco] found beneath the plant’s No. 2 reactor what could be nuclear fuel… [Tepco] found a black mass on a grating structure just beneath the containment vessel

Kyodo News, Jan 30, 2017: [A] robot will be deployed [to] better understand where the nuclear fuel debris is located

Kyodo News, Jan 30, 2017: The actual condition of the melted fuel has remained unknown… [Images] showed black mass and deposits… accumulating inside the outer primary containment vessel. If the deposits are fuel debris, it means fuel melted through the pressure vessel, a container that is supposed to hold the fuel. The interior of the primary containment vessel appears to be substantially different from its original state, indicating the harsh conditions… In some areas, the substance had accumulated a few centimeters thick to form a chunk or to clog the grid squares. Some parts of the grating were distorted or no longer there, possibly melted in the heat during the accident.

Japan Times, Jan 30, 2017: Nuclear fuel debris possibly found below reactor at Fukushima No. 1; Black lumps that could be melted nuclear fuel are visible Monday at the bottom of reactor No. 2’s containment vessel at the Fukushima No. 1 power plant — Tepco on Monday found what may be melted nuclear fuel debris inside reactor 2 at the Fukushima No. 1 plant… “At this point, it’s difficult to clearly identify what they are,” said Yuichi Okamura, general manager of Tepco’s nuclear power and plant siting division, during an evening news conference… [Footage] showed black lumps that looked like something that had melted and then congealed, sticking to parts of a steel grating area at the base of the containment vessel.

Jiji Press, Jan 30, 2017: [Tepco] found a form of sediment under the No. 2 reactor of its Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant…

Reuters, Jan 30, 2017: [TEPCO] has failed to establish the location of the melted fuel rods in the other three damaged reactors at the plant. The utility has been developing robots that can swim under water and negotiate obstacles in damaged tunnels and piping to search for the melted fuel rods. But as soon as the robots get close to the reactors, the radiation destroys their wiring and renders them useless.

RT, Jan 30, 2017: Japan’s TEPCO finds possible nuclear fuel debris… The substance is so toxic that even specially-made robots designed to probe the underwater depths beneath the power plant crumble and shut down…

Guardian, Jan 30, 2017: [Tepco said] a remote camera appeared to have found the debris beneath the badly damaged No 2 reactor, where radiation levels remain dangerously high.

Bloomberg, Jan 29, 2017: [T]he search has barely begun for fuel that burned through to the bottom of the reactors.

“TEPCO announced that they would further delay spent fuel removal at unit 3, citing high radiation levels. Spent fuel removal has now been pushed to late 2018.

“Installation of the fuel removal building has begun. TEPCO cites the need to install more shielding to make the area safer for limited worker entry. This shows the level of challenge involved. Extensive work has already taken place to clean and decontaminate the refueling floor level and install shielding.

“Efforts to put a probe into unit 2’s containment were successful after an earlier failure. An initial attempt to put the scope camera probe in through the isolation device were foiled by O rings inside that made the passage too narrow for the probe. TEPCO somehow resolved this problem and later managed to do the initial scope inspection to look for anything that could hang up the robot. They noted rust and

        “unidentified dark smears”.

“The initial phase of the scope work didn’t identify any new problems. It was not clear why they didn’t conduct the rest of the scope work at the same time. Another attempt will take place to look further into the area near the pedestal.

“Photos below are from the scope work recently conducted….”

A lie is being perpetrated on the Internet that no significant radiation related fatalities have resulted from the ongoing Fukushima Nuclear Catastrophe. Anyone using any semblance of logic will know that this is fantasy! The evidence is overwhelming and clear, that large numbers of people have died, and more will die in the future as a result of this ongoing nuclear catastrophe!

Please use the reports on this page to counter the lie, and educate people. Everyone is welcome to copy and use any of the information on this page.

stock, the weak point is that there is no infra red heat signature from those spots. The stuff may have been radioactive, but it wasnt corium.

          • after a few days the really hot shit is gone. And some of it is "activated" stuff, neutron bombarded. Just saying.

May not be corium, not convinced either way though. No reasonable alternative theory also bothers me a wee bit.

the even gray blocks look like macroblock video distortion. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macroblock

On the space station, cameras get pixels permanently destroyed by cosmic rays. I wonder if the high energy radiation can cause macroblock distortion in the compression scheme.

High energy radiation may have died away considerably but I looked at corium heat and that stuff stays hot. You see hot areas in the IR photos and that north wall melt out or blast/flow out area is not showing the heat

The wall panel blew out forcefully. Some gold stuff with white curved chunks or tubes got blown out and also ended hanging over the edge. It could be highly radioactive stuff. My theory is that they sprayed the place down with water and the water washed all the ash like debris…remember there were fires and also the spent fuel pool apparently had some kind of dry out, and burn. There may have been a kind of stop leak material. This black ash stuff flowed out after the initial blast which blew the panel and the yellow stuff. The volume is significant. The photos with black slump show significantly more volume than the yellow stuff. All of the stuff could be radioactive and include actual spent fuel ash (for lack of a better word)

The caesium activity ratios indicate emissions from the core of unit 4 which had been unloaded into the fuel storage pool prior to the accident.

It is shown which information can be extracted from the monitoring of radionuclides emitted from the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant and transported to Europe. In this part the focus will be on the analysis of the concentration ratios. While (131)I, (134)Cs and (137)Cs were reported by most stations, other detected radionuclides, reported by some, are (95)Nb, (129m)Te, (132)Te, (132)I, (136)Cs and (140)La. From their activity ratios a mean burn-up of 26.7 GWd/t of the fuel from which they originated is estimated. Based on these data, inventories of radionuclides present at the time of the accident are calculated. The caesium activity ratios indicate emissions from the core of unit 4 which had been unloaded into the fuel storage pool prior to the accident

No confirmation of supporting documents by peers to support a 6 page report of conjecture or followup reports years later after the initial guessing.

To Unit 2, isn't that the one where the primary access hatch/door blew ajar and pipe penetrations oozed melted fuel onto the maintenance floor? IOW, the melt flowed mainly sideways and not down.

"…The reactors at units 1, 2 and 3 all have maintained some measure of cooling water with more relief expected soon. They do not appear to be in danger of a full meltdown at this time. As such, the danger mentioned by the Sandia study should not become an issue. Provided the cooling water continues to be pumped through the reactors there should be no danger of fuel escaping the reactor vessel.

Also, the amount of power being produced by the reactors has been dropping steadily and is by now only few percent of full power. In the absence of a full scale meltdown and fuel once again producing a nuclear reaction there is just not the amount of energy available inside the reactor to create a steam explosion sufficient to pop the containment structure. As such, the scenario that caused the engineers to quit GE is no longer on the table now that power levels have significantly dropped…"

Your linked article was total bullshit. I cant figure you out. Thanks for sending me the isotope ratio article in full which is final proof along with all other data that Unit four SPF suffered some kind of catastrophic loss of integrity and emitted radioactive fallout which traveled around the globe of earth.

                    quotes from your article
"it is highly unlikely that significant damage was done to the secondary containment below….a full meltdown at any of the units seems highly unlikely…"

                    • razzz razzz

The point of the bullshit article was the date (author probably left the article up so the ignorant passing by would still believe it).

Unit 4's .pdf report claims the melts never got hot enough to vaporize, that should be a tip off the report is bogus. If they are wrong about temperature then their entire thinking is wrong and the three cores continued burning (fissioned) after melting down.

"…This could indicate that the fuel
temperatures remained well below 2400C which were reached during the Chernobyl core heat-up phase. At such temperatures
releases of refractory elements (Sr, Mo, Zr, Ru, Ba) still are limited to a few percent when compared to those of caesium…can not exclude that due to
atmospheric dispersion, the concentrations in Europe of such isotopes have decreased so much that they were no longer detectable.

                      4. Conclusions
The analyses of activity ratios of the emissions from the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear accident which were transported into air over Europe allow to estimate the mean core burn-up and decay time of the fuel from which they originated. The isotopic composition observed in Europe corresponds to emissions from a core
with an effective burn-up of approximately 26.7 GWd/t being in operation until the date of the earthquake, i.e. from units 1 to 3…"

And Arnie Gunderson reported that there were those who witnessed neutron rays emanating from the wreckage after the explosions. Neutron rays have never happened in nature, they are solely man-made. Think about that a minute. All the debris at the FDNPP must be contained and stored forever.

If, in fact, the camera is anywhere within hundreds of meters of the FDNPP complex it would have to be a very special camera. The super deluxe model I presume. Even Blanch is ready to reestablished his radio show. Is there a correlation in all this at this point in time? IOW, is it safe to come out now and talk about the downside of nuclear reactors?

Interesting (one can always hope for the better).

As far as lost containment with the three melts goes, containment is still nonexistent.

Maybe TEPCO was using reflective mirrors and lenses through a tube arm to get their latest clear images. Only have to wait until the glass or acrylic surfaces begin pitting from radiation while avoiding radio-pixelation caused electronic chip failure.

Other than that, how can one 500 ton melted radioactive blob go missing or unnoticed as in Unit 2?

Another 3D drawing of the area being investigated:
    http://www.tepco.co.jp/en/nu/fukushima-np/handouts/2017/images/handouts_170130_02-e.pdf

Apparently, the grate pictured is inside the pedestal, under the control rods.
    Corium glops!

This grate would still be about 2-3 meters above the basement floor.
Frankly, I'm surprised that this grate wasn't melted through by the passage of the driping corium.
The current probe, not the robot camera, will NOT be going through this grate to look for the missing fuel, at this time.
Exploration of the basement floor, and of the water filled hole therein, will wait for future years.
    Such slow progress.
There is still NO sense of urgency at Tepco, and no international pressure to locate and map the three missing cores.
Means they couldn't do anything about the corium, even if they found it in a neat pile.

Where is the damn corium, eh, Tepco? 😉

    • PhilipUpNorth PhilipUpNorth

      That should read:
"Neither the current probe, nor the robot camera, will be going through this grate to look for the missing fuel, at this time."

Look at Step 7 of the procedure. Note in the photo that the robot camera is too large to fit through the holes in the grate. Tepco will NOT be exploring the basement floor under this grate any time soon.
      http://www.tepco.co.jp/en/nu/fukushima-np/handouts/2017/images/handouts_170130_02-e.pdf

      This means the following:
Tepco will NOT find the missing Unit 2 corium from the current investigation.

Since even this sorry excuse for "decommissioning" has taken nearly 6 years to begin, it will probably take Tepco another 6 years to set eyes on the Unit 2 corium!

If there is a 2 meter diameter water-filled hole through the basement floor under this grate, with the corium in bedrock 10 meters below the floor, the PCV would still hold pressure, even though the PCV was completely melted through and utterly compromised!

Like handing over your life at birth..or any life..to a troll to have fun with as he pleases..

And the Rotchild's..they remain hidden and hideous..useless when they can make the difference..the only ones rich enough to take fukushima upon them to fix..
