Caravan to Midnight, the John B. Wells Program, March 2014:

At 43:00 in

  • Dr. Helen Caldicott: There seems to be no end in sight for this dreadful catastrophe. About 300 to 400 tons of radioactive water per day are pouring into the Pacific, have been for the last 3 years, and will continue probably for the rest of time because no one can find out where the molten cores of a hundred of seethingly hot uranium are. No one can get near them because they’re so radioactive, and the water will continue to flow over them, I guess, forever more. I can’t see any other way out of it. [...] I had the same reaction as you when two days after the tsunami and earthquake occurred [...] I got this feeling in the pit of my stomach [...] there is simply nothing anyone can do about it. And people are asking me all the time what can I take, what nutrients can I take? There’s nothing you can take to remove the radioactive elements from your body once you’ve eaten them.

At 46:15 in

  • Caldicott: We need to be depressed. People can get through depression. […] People need to be sad, they need to be depressed. They need to get moving and close down all the reactors in America. They need to start getting off their bottoms and moving away from their computers, using their democracy, educating their representatives […] taking over the state house, the congress because you own them. In the vacuum that people leave by not using their democracy in an educated fashion that the corporations step into the vacuum.

At 50:00 in

  • Caldicott: The nuclear industry is covering it up because they know damn well that if the real truth comes out it will be the end of nuclear power.

At 55:30 in

  • Caldicott: It’s only America that can save the planet, if you rise to your full moral and spiritual height and decide to do it. Nothing else matters, nothing else matters.

understand, Ontological, some of us don't reveal what others freely disclose in public. It's up to each individual to decide if their personal situations should be used as argument. I figure, I'm in a world where few are capable of genuine empathy. It's like when a report comes out about the latest downpour of radiation on the West Coast. You've only to look at the flurry of hits and comments on an report that concerns the West Coast to know, most people are only concerned with the potential effect on them and theirs. When you peruse an article that reports on Japanese children being force-fed tuna sandwiches at lunch, you see some concern. For the most part, it platitudes galore and grounds for political grandstanding.

I don't fault people for being this way. It's both a combination of our specie's biological programming and media-induced indifference. At least here, on ENENEWS, you get a smattering of humans who attempt to think on something other than their own personal interests. But it ain't easy breaking free of generations of selfishness…

When Doctor Caldicott says "There’s nothing you can take to remove the radioactive elements from your body once you’ve eaten them," she is for some reason forgetting the fact that after Chernobyl one group of children were given spirulina (sent by the British), and it was observed that considerable 'material' came out in the urine. The other group who did not receive spirulina did not have this occurring and did less well in the coming months. I have also come across many articles on the net that refer to one substance or another that apparently has this capacity also. And for years there have been various alternative practitioners who have presented ways to remove things like mercury from the body. So I am not sure why she is so pessimistic. In any case whenever I read or hear someone say there is nothing that can be done or no way to re-mediate, I think to myself that these are not scientific remarks but emotional ones.

Yes, something can be done about Fukushima–but there is no political will at present to do it. The USA seems to be in a trance as does the EU. As for China and the Russian Federation I do not know.

I totally agree, but the basic problem is low information voters and massively corrupted government officials. American politics is a popularity contest and not a best candidate contest. Who can lie and talk the best is the key. Lying and stonewalling is in overdrive right now by both the Japanese and US governments. The criteria that most voters use to pick candidates is truly superficial so the public will suffer from their own stupidity.

We will be dying slow painful deaths from Japanese meltdowns and WIPP. The meltdown plum covers 70% of North America. The WIPP covers most of the rest. This makes me wonder if this was not planned by some group to make sure all of NA is completely screwed?

Back to our corrupt government. The accident stonewalling is a very political situation. The government is stonewalling all nuclear accident news so not to affect elections which is already not in their favor. Only independent sources or organizations not tied to network conglomerates are reporting about this.

        • Please dive deeper.. Politics is currently driven by money.

Money is overwhelmingly coming 10 to 1 from corporate 'special' interests.

The person getting the most money wins.

Corporations out spend every other 'interest' including citizens 10 to 1 or more.

Guess who wins? the corporate candidate.

Now add the corporate controlled mass media.. figure it out.

          The way out?

Vote only for non corporate money candidates.

But then most people are caught by fear and programming. So they keep voting for the worst possible, money controlled candidates who lie and promise and cheat and steal, just to get into office.

One hundred years ago very few people could have grasped the idea of large jet airplanes. Two hundred years ago talking of radio, televisions, computers, etc. might have gotten you a place at Bedlam. I am sure something can be done. I am sure you can remove radioactive material from the human body. But neither of these thing will happen if they "can not be done". So an intelligent step would be to use the expression "at present we do not know what can be done with Fukushima . . ." Keep in mind that while some exposed during the Chernobyl meltdown died, others did not. Why? Same basic human bodies. Some bodies had better detoxing capacity. Maybe they ate better before and after. There is no point resisting the inevitable! That is a deeply seated Western trait unfortunately. The sorrows of young Westerners. Instead of despairing which has a very low success rate, put the energy into discovery. Be a scientist.

I love what you are doing, Dr. Caldicott, and the value of your voice to our cause is priceless.
But take a vacation, will you?
    You need a little break.
Because the human race can, and must, do something to mitigate Fukushima's horrible course.
It is, after all, only a question of money, corporate profits, and the political institutions that keep the people powerless, that keeps us from solving some of these problems.
And we can always change the way we are doing (or not doing) things.
We can always make up our minds to do things differently.
We can always change the systems that operate society in such a way as to facilitate an appropriate response.

(You are only right, Helen, if we continue to do NOTHING at all about Fukushima.)

What should be, and MUST BE, done?
    1. Locate and map Corium1-3, wherever they may be. 2014
    2. Extend the Underground Impermeable Wall entirely around Reactors1-4, so that groundwater flows around, rather than right under, the ruins. 2015
    3. Build a concrete foundation of reinforced concrete 100' wide, 100' deep into the bedrock under the aquifer.
    4. Build a Sarcophagus over Reactors1-4 of reinforced concrete and lead, designed to withstand 10,000 year earthquakes and tsunamis.

There are A LOT OF THINGS we can do about this!

We have a culture that is entirely based on quarterly corporate profits and the myth of a free market. It is a "me" society, not "we" society. I think it is more fascism than free market. When Bill Gates is allowed a monopoly, e.g., there is no chance for a free market to operate. Centralized power companies using oil, gas, coal and nuclear favor central grids to make profits from consumers. Up to 98% of the energy is lost in transmission alone. This is a misallocation of market forces, a limited monopoly and fascism.

Decentralized solar, wind and hydo-power would eliminate this. Thd petro-dollar is unnecessary, too.

It is a good question why the response of the world community of nations has thus far been so lackadaisical. Obama, and before him Bush, has been over eager to engage militarily and make matters worse . . . Just recently 5 billions dollars were squandered on Ukraine where things are now of course worse.

But as far as I know the only giving to Japan has been some dangerous relief and help right after the Tsunami. Money and some military lives. As far as I know the Obamas do not have a door into an alternative universe where things are done wisely. So their lives are also in the balance.

Radioactivity may need to be characterized as the new terrorist threat which would get John McCain up and running. Al Qaedactivity. Bin Cesium. Jihad 239. Rag headium

In comments to a previous thread, a member (combo melt) posted the link below the asterisks. Those in this forum who insist that there is no remediation possible — something I deeply fear — should listen to the lecture by David Yurth. (Mnemonic tip: Yurt + Earth.) His claims need to reappear regularly in enenews, to balance the justifiable anger and despair. Yurth claims that proven methods to reduce radioactivity from NPPs to background levels exist, but that these methods are suppressed by corporations that benefit from the current power structure/control system.

If Yurth and those he cites are correct, there is at last a rallying point for those who are awake to the existential dangers of the current generation of NPPs.

It seems he's between a rock and a hard place in a Catch 22 situation — he can't make progress with the DOE, can't make progress without the DOE.

hi, my friend. there is transfiguration in the process. Some call it enlightenment, nirvana, sanity, repentance, truth, awakening etc, etc, etc.

Dying of this consuming world (rejecting consumerism) Then as you state.

Two years with blood moons on sacred days 2014-2015, pole reversals in the sun, solar anger.

The last book states what will happen to those who went out to destroy earth, reversed immoral dogs, beasts without conscience. Nature will destroy haarps with the weapon used in the city of palm trees. I can feel it humming with great anger, such a pulse, technology not known on this world.

That reminds me, I haven't seen Indiana Jones for a while. ;-)

Atomicistheword, "there is transfiguration in the process."
Yes, and transfiguration can occur more than once.

The awakening can lead to discernment (helps sanity), enlightenment provides the way to true knowledge and the other states may be encountered on the journey.

There is more to come than the sun's reversal, for instance, I suspect that the outer core of the earth is showing signs of a geomagnetic change. The universe is not stationary, it is alive, it moves, it responds.

There are many records in the past, from various sources, offering clues to the present, but these have been made difficult by distortions. This week the Blue Star Spica brings to mind the Hopi Indian prophecy of Kachina.

The math is totally WRONG on the amounts of water being poured to cool(?) those melted cores! First and foremost, TEPCO has lied about EVERYTHING…E V E R Y T H I N G! So the 300-400 tons of deadly irradiated sea water "leaking" daily is a lie or, to say it another way – fictional fact!

Scientific estimation during an emergency meltdown:
Water is poured on ONE melting core at 30,000 gallons per minute –
    – 8.3 pounds is the weight of one gallon of water
    – 30,000 gallons of water weight 249,000 pounds
    – A short TON, commonly used in the US, is equal to 2000 pounds

ONE MINUTE – of water flowing over a ONE melted core is 124.5 TONS of water.
ONE HOUR – of water flowing over a SINGLE melted core is 7,470 TONS of water.
24 HOURS – of water flowing over a SINGLE melted core is 79,280 TONS of water.

These are the hard numbers from real experts.
Even the good Doctor simply takes TEPCO's words and runs with them. Proof is required to verify their leakage numbers.
We have NO third-party confirmation of any solid quantifiable data.
We only have a lying company's press releases as data….ha, ha, fuking ha!

If we say that in 24 hours of cooling 79,280 tons of sea water was used on ONE melted core then, 237,840 tons are used on THREE melted cores a day. So, lets cut the numbers in half to 118,920 tons used for three cores…still a staggering number! So if it were gallons gasoline instead of water, that would be 237,840,000 gallons of gas flowing…

      Re: Massive feed and bleed

You may be right, but the water leaching over the buried coriums from the mountain underground aquifer in the sandstone fissures meeting up with tidal flow fissures may be ten times your massive estimate. :-)

I question whether they are using as much sprayed concrete pump water inside the buildings because that leakage adds to ground-soil radiation and could make the plant so radioactive that it is impossible for humans to do anything outside the buildings. Which may be the case already.

I have always thought the fish kills 5,000 miles away meant there was far more radiation in the water than any government agency will admit. The USS Reagan crew were thrown to the wolves and they drank the toxic Fukushima water. The nuclear coverup by the US and Japan will one day blow up into a health pandemic and many different coalitions will combine to counter the government lies.

Helen Caldicott is exactly correct. The admission that Fukushima is a mass extinction event (as defined by at least 60% casualties) will put pressure to halt all the nuclear plants. America can live without those monsters. The 64 trillion dollar question will be: Can the Russians, Chinese, and Indians also go cold turkey? Probably nit until they blow a couple of plants in their own countries.

They keep getting caught in a web of their own lies..

If I talked to him. I could get everything at cost .. Look up his plans ect for rad detectors and tell me what you think ..let hi know he better get on the train because it's leaving ..he's working on antigravity guns now ..that's not going to help us will it

I'm guessing; if you hide the NO-Nukes movement inside the Global Warming & Climate Change Movement, then you will get a better reception & stronger cooperation in places like Japan >>>

The farther that mankind has gone down the road ib civilization, the more we have lost. The crucial spark of creativity is not to be found by running to some corporate cash-flow in order to be taken care of for all of days of your life.
Where is the creativity in that?
    There is none. Zip. Nada.
The creative spirit that is inherent in each and every individual is what needs to be unleashed in order to seek and find solutions to individual and the world's problems.
It is the individual capable of spontaneous, creative thought that will provide the answers.

Let the corporations go and set the spark for your creative conflagration! The world is waiting and there is no time to waste!

The nuclear shills hope that us anti-nukes get Fukushima Fatigue, that we will get tired of discussing an impossibly dire situation, join the "nothing can be done" crowd.

That is clearly how the playbook is working across the globe.

I say it is time to tell our children, near and far.

Let them realize that their futures are gone.

With our social media circles, it shouldn't take more than a few days to get millions of school aged children livid and apoplectic.

    The time is now.

I have immense respect for Helen Cadicott, and she is correct about the 76 thousand gallons (at least) of radioactive water leaching daily into the pacific, but it will not be forever The cores will eventually completely dissolve away into in the ocean and the surrounding soil. At this point Tepco and Japan will have a small respite and the rest of the world will suffer the impending and unavoidable fate that our oceans will forever be permanently poisoned and all life on this planet will die. The Mayan calendar seems to have been correct, 2011 was the beginning of the end for all carbon life on this planet. The food chains will collapse and people will starve. Cancer rates will continue to climb to 1 out of 2 within 5 years and new births will not keep up with the mortality rates. But the real killer will be the reduction of phytoplankton which will decrease our air, and whatever life has been lucky enough to last the fallout will die from suffocation. Our only chance is that man will figure out how spot and and began to filter out all the isotopes or smoother miraculous invention of spot and eliminate. What Helen fails to see is that we don't live in a democracy and haven't for at least 40 years. We live in a facist corporate controlled new world order that charades as a democracy. Voting is a mass pacifier. The people we get to chose between (republican or democrate) are both the same, and would lose their jobs if they didn't do what their bosses (masters) tell them.

"Placing Band-Aids over a 6-inch-deep-n-a-foot-long gushing cut resulted from a life-threatening accident" is one way to describe what TEPCo and the Japanese government are doing in their clean up effort in the aftermath of the Fukushima Daiichi's nuclear power plants nuclear explosions.

Why is Helen Caldicott telling everybody to get depressed?

Doesn't she know that smiling is the only way to save the planet?

    C'mon everybody smile!

    :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

If we can train all of the fish and wildlife to smile too we can lick this radioactivity problem in no time.

But remember after we get everyone and every creature to smile if just one person or creature stops smiling the meltdown will start up again and we will have to start all over again or we will all be fried!

So c'mon everybody time is a wasting, smile!
