Radioactive Tuna Raises Concerns in Southern California
KMIR Palm Springs
By Angela Monroe
May 30, 2012
After several radioactive Bluefin tuna crossed the Pacific Ocean and ended up off the southern coast of California, many here in the valley are worried about the safety of our seafood.
[...]
“Really shocked that that could even happen, it’s quite scary,” said Palm Desert resident, Sabine Skelton.
[...]
Fisherman’s Market and Grill Restaurants CEO Louis Pagano [...] has worked in the fish industry all his life, and has some advice for seafood lovers.
“I’d be careful, stay away Blue Fin tuna for the time being, and at that point I don’t see any hazards in any of the other open ocean large swordfish, salmon, sea bass,” said Pagano.
Some people worry the radiation could get worse before it gets better.
[...]
Over a year, later the impacts of the Fukushima meltdown are still swimming towards us.

First the cesium was in the tuna, but I said nothing because I did not eat tuna
Then the cesium was in the milk, but I said nothing because I drink tea
Next the cesium was in the beef, but I said nothing because I am a vegetarian
Then the cesium was in the vegetables, but by then there was no one left to tell

So stupid!
> Worry that radiation could get worse before it gets better
This is a central lie of our society:
"It will get worse before it gets better."
The show must go on…
h.
Report Comment
if it gets worse, it wont get better.
Report Comment
it's getting worse
Report Comment
For the next 250,000 years.

And, how can it possibly get better?
Here's how:
We end up with something like 7 meltdowns instead of 8 or 9 of them.
But, all seven will emit low levels – completely safe (ICRP Mickey Mouse Model).
Gradual Death Syndrome (GDS) sets in (ECRR Reality Model).

"… I don’t see any hazards in any of the other open ocean large swordfish, salmon, sea bass"
How stupid is that statement? is it only tuna who live on radiation-loaded prey? downplay, downplay, minimize…
ARE people stupid enough to believe this?

It seems the current spin is bluefin tuna is the only fish that migrated up until now (yeah right). But weren't those fish samples from last year?
Report Comment
So next year they'll warn you about what happened this year. And after you're dead, they warn you about what did it.

ur saying one morning I'll wake up dead from all this?

Yup.

The person quoted (Louis Pagano) runs a restaurant chain. Their menu does not include bluefin tuna, but does include those other species. Hence his spin:
http://www.fishermans.com/menu.php
Included on his menu is the highly controversial orange roughie:
http://www.mar-eco.no/learning-zone/backgrounders/deepsea_life_forms/orange_roughy_story
My take-away: he saw a chance to make a buck from the tuna story and/or do some damage control to make sure people didn't stop eating at his restaurants because of the scare.

I think heavily contaminated fishes will be the bottom-feeder and filter-feeding species.

Once plankton is contaminated, everything gets contaminated.

For the most part, yes.

In all honesty, these types of fish are bad enough because of the environmental pollutants they carry being so far up the food chain! Mercury and PCB's etc! I remember a warning on RTE News about 6 years ago about the dangers for pregnant women eating Tuna, Swordfish, shark and any other fish at the top of the food chain but primarily in concern for the amount of mercury they contain!!! And if that wasn't bad enough they're now they're laced with radionuclides!! There is no limit to our senseless self-destruction!!!

Grab your Omega's from other sources folks. Stop eating these poor suffering fish and let your supermarkets, shops etc know why and write to the pathetic authorities on this matter!!!! But above all, let your friends and family know why!!!

101% YES! Hemp Seed Oil, Flax Seed Oil, or even better a full-spectrum Omega blend. Also much less heavy metals (hopefully none), and tastes great. Ever tried Almond Yoghurt w. Hemp Seed Oil? THAT's gourmet, NOT thuna …..

Headline infers that Pagano is making the statement "Some people worry the radiation could get worse before it gets better." He didn't. This was editorial commentary on the part of the article's author (Angela Monroe).
"Humans aren't known for doing a real great job with stuff like this, and we kind of think the ocean is vast and it doesn't matter what we do to it," (Palm Desert resident – Tex Toltschin), is a more relevant statement. When it comes to long-lived exotic-toxins, we obviously don't know what we're doing…

What drivel. Radiation does NOT 'get better'. once you have internal exposure, the timer is running.
And no one should eat bluefin tuna anyway. They are nearly extinct. Not that it matters any more.

There has been a real storm on Twitter about the tuna. I find it surprising and significant that there was no such storm about the supposedly, and very dead, irradiated pinnipeds. Perhaps it's because pinnipeds aren't food.
I was also surprised to to see no such storm about running-races for little kids in the Irradiated Zones.
Perhaps food strikes a bigger chord with more people.

Funny how no one pays attention until it hits the dinner plate. I'm guilty of it too. The difference is the moment this happened I sought out information. I have shared this with everyone who will talk to me lol. I don't really know what to think anymore. It's like Tepgov wants everyone to die slow. The U.S. is just as guilty. @#$%!

I dont what to think either stopnp. Since the fish tested were born about a year before the disaster, I cant begin to imagine what this year’s fish are going to be. And that's not including everything else in the food chain.

…telling us that "not one single person has been killed by a nuclear power plant in the U.S."
U.S. Nuclear Accidents (and deaths)
http://www.lutins.org/nukes.html
"In Dauphin County, where the Three Mile Island plant is located, the 1979 death rate among infants under one year represented a 28 percent increase over that of 1978, and among infants under one month, the death rate increased by 54 percent."

Perhaps a window of opportunity has opened to get out the radiation disaster while their ears are still open.

hmm let me think of a reason to not trust the energy companies and thier friends
i hope admin wont mind me putting this EDF antiadvert here
??
due to recent events of a major reactor release that prooves that nuclear power plant fallout in the case of an emergency travels further than the existing projections say.. ie norways fears of sellafield blowing its stack
"The Norwegian Radiation Protection Authority has just published a report on a hypothetical accident at Sellafield in England, which concludes that if only 1% of the liquid radioactive waste stored at the plant is released to air, the radioactive fallout in Western Norway could be five times higher than in the areas of Norway that were worst affected by the Chernobyl accident…"
scratch "five times" and put at least twenty.. ouch!
from here

and then there is this
A RADIOACTIVE THANK YOU TO EDF FROM LONDON !!

Read that last quote, again. Like most of the so-called "experts", he talks as if it's OVER! Of course, we all know this gift keeps on giving, 24 hours a day. Tepco pours millions of gallons into these very radioactive fuel pools, reactor vessels and into the holes the corium has made under the buildings and has no idea where it goes. We know where it goes…INTO THE SEA!…Duhhh. So, his whole suggestion to temporarily stop buying one species of Pacific tuna is nonsense. No, I'm very sorry for the fishermen and the industries they feed, but we must close down the Pacific food source for longer than my lifetime….OR, until the government bureaucrats at the FDA, EPA, NRC and Homeland Gestapo start MONITORING everything coming out of the sea and REPORTING IT TO US, not keeping contamination a secret to protect someone's money trough.
How stupid it all is…just disgusting.
I'm surprised the Stanford boat wasn't sunk before it got to port…..Karen Silkwood style.

Indeed Sir, ol 'Malthus and ol' Huxley, and ol 'Darwin, were great twisted bastards that justification for theft, plunder, and eugenics of the powerful new wave of bourgeois exploiters, who had already gained ground in the old church and aristocracy devised a comprehensive ideology of pseudoscientific nonsense that smelled like shit, and still smelling. The sophistry used, such as The Banquet of Life, The Survival of the fittest, etc …, are still in the collective imagination as scientific certainties. All that garbage gave way to pseudo-fascist ideology to justify.
Survival is based on mutual aid, and two animals from splitting the horns, it has nothing to do with how evolution works, dear.
Even bacteria are smarter than ol … So here we are in part due to the weeds, which largely began to plant all that rabble.
The promoters of nuclear energy and military, they find comfort in that the strongest and such is its pseudo-ideology justifying the killing.
