Title: Sampling Continues at Bayou Corne as Sinkhole Expands
Source: Louisiana Environmental Action Network

On September 8, 2012, DEQ sampled the sludge material floating on the surface of the sink hole. The material consisted of 48.1 % Diesel Range Organics and 15% Oil Range Organics.
[...]
State of Louisiana data shows that hydrocarbons in the sink hole sludge are dangerously elevated, while radiation levels exceeded background by only a small amount. Based on this limited testing, this sinkhole sludge is a hazard because of the presence of the diesel fuel, which can contaminate air and groundwater. Hydrocarbon levels may also be in the flammable range.

Lesson #1: do not put fracking sludge in a salt cavern and expect it to remain there.

"When these domes are drilled, they inject diesel into the dome early in the excavation process as it floats on the brine layer and stops 'leaching' on the top of the dome to prevent it from damaging the top of the dome."

There was talk here at Enenews some weeks ago that the diesel is injected deliberately. "Today's problems are yesterday's solutions", as the old maxim has it. Anyway, I found some "Bubba chatter" about it in the link above which suggests that the diesel is no surprise at all. To me one surprise is that they inject diesel without regard for the possibility that it "can contaminate air and groundwater… may also be in the flammable range." Quelle surprise.

This situation is a nightmare. All of this because of chemical greed profit. All of this could have been eliminated with a fully agricultural lifestyle. Every person in this country should find their local small growers and farmers. They should immediately stop shopping at big box stores that don't sell organics. They should pull up all their lawns and grow gardens. Big business would be bankrupt by Christmas.
The state of Louisiana is about to send their own residents into a sea of fire. A state of emergency needs to be called. Is Majia around? Which is the fastest online petition site? If HOTR comes on ask her.
