UPDATE 3-Los Alamos scurries to protect nuclear lab from fire, Reuters, June 28, 2011 at 10:41 pm EDT:

[... Los Alamos County Fire Chief Douglas
Tucker]
said he feared the so-called Las Conchas Fire, whipped by high, rapidly shifting winds, could soon double or triple in size. The blaze remained listed as at zero percent containment and burning largely unchecked in its third day.

“I seriously believe it could go to 100,000 acres (40,000 hectares),” Tucker told reporters at a news briefing on Tuesday. “We have fire all around the lab. It’s a road away.” [...]

      • Kind of a coincidence… Just a quick question…

        as I understand it…
        They develop WMD’s at los alamos…

        This is a experimental weapons facility…
        Nuclear power has been around a long time…

        So…

        Is there any other possibility that the recent “zombie” warning from the CDC (center of disease control) was let out because they projected the fire to affect this facility?

        Does anyone know what day the cdc released that announcement. was it possible for the cdc to know 1 week prior to the announcement that the fire would be likely to affect los almos? Its simple factoring… I mean we have super computers and satellites that tell us when the sun farts on us…

        Wouldn’t it be just as simple for scientists to know wheather or not a fire was in route to a weapons facility???

        any correlation to the dates?

          i got one too… right out of the left brain:

          what if comet Elennin is known to be on a path crossing close enough to earth to cause these sites to go hairy for sure… but all at once….

          and now THEM (in the know) are going to destroy all of these sites before that happens, but slowly until September or so when Elennin rocks our world…

          i got more : )

          i’ll leave you all in peace.

          back soon

          andy.

      In response to the comment above (@larry-andrew-nils) about Elenin:

      There’s a very interesting little video about “Elenin” that gives some intriguing pieces of information about whatever is coming our way. The video includes an excerpt from a “Coast to Coast AM” interview on June 18th with Richard C. Hoagland, co-author of the New York Times best-seller, “Dark Mission: The Secret History of NASA”. Certainly worth a look and a listen to this information.

      June 26th: Warning – More Proof NASA is Lying about Comet Elenin

      Coast to Coast AM: Guest page for Richard C. Hoagland

      Interesting comments about “Dark Mission” (from a former NASA Manned Spaceflight Controller)

      http://www.amazon.com/review/R1799GZ3ASYXLR/ref=cm_cr_dp_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=1932595481&nodeID=283155

      There really does seem to be something of huge import coming the way of planet Earth this year that is being called “Elenin” (aka “Nibiru”? / aka “Planet X”?), though it is almost certainly not a “comet” as is being officially claimed.

      What’s more, a NASA mission to the moon titled GRAIL (Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory) has a launch window from Sep 8 to Oct 3, which is exactly the same time period that “Elenin” will be the closest to Earth. GRAIL involves two spacecraft that will be simultaneously orbiting the moon for around six months, with the expected end of the flight mission being May 22, 2012 (http://moon.mit.edu).

      There is certainly a lot happening in 2011.

  • Interesting question…

    Anyone know the geology there…

    With no power public water utility may not be able to provide adequate cooling in the event the cooling systems fail…

    So is there rivers / streams or lakes close enough to provide water?

    Wild land firefighters rely on a mark 1 fire pump, which is basically a lawn mower sized engine that pumps water from streams to the heat source…

    Fire trucks can only holy so much water…

    Also how close is vegetation to the lab? that would indicate weather there will be a likely impact in the infrastructure…

    Fires can leap, but they are limited to small distances… So if there is no vegetation than the risk is minimal… As there will be no way for the flames to implicate the lab…

    So does anyone have any pictures of the lab site; That they can link below so that we can make assumptions as to what level of danger the lab is currently in?

    This is more and more reminding me of the gulf oil spill. Part of the ‘Media Blitz’ aimed at keeping the people distracted while certain groups dismantle the country.

    • Discordian

      Perhaps the Gulf oil spill was initiated as a practice run? Remember all the early speculation: was it done purposely? what about the massive stock sell-off the week before? etc.

      Could TPTB be so evil that they caused one massive, destructive environmental disaster just to CONDITION an apathetic public so that the endgame, genocidal nuclear catastrophes will receive little attention?

      Perhaps there is an analogue in the raising of gas prices. First the prices were greatly increased in 2008 (and Katrina, too, down here in Georgia and other southern states): people panicked, yhere were gas lines, short tempers, modified driving habits, etc. When the prices were raised in 2010-2011, though, none of that really happened.

      Are they using our human adaptability to change (or desensitization) against us to leave us defenseless at the last stroke of evil? Think of the apathy which 99% of the folks you tell about this nuclear stuff express.

      It really is like a novel plot of horror, Orwell meets Huxley meets Rand meets the Apocalypse, but with no Savior or hero, or a diabolical one.

      Perhaps I am overthinking it…?

    I wrote to AP following their news reports that various appropriate agencies were monitoring the air quality/particulates/radiation — to say that they gave no links to access the monitoring information. I asked that they send that and supply that information as per the function of the 4th Estate. Five hours later, I have no response.

    Tommorrow, I’ll send to more news angencies, who also do not give information to access the air quality information. I’ll ask them to provide the information links.

    But I do not expect an informative reply.

      Hello – you’re sitting atop volcanoes. Think Iceland. You don’t need to import gas. Oh well, LNG is better than ancient nukes on life support, unless the tanker explodes – that’s about a 20 megaton equivalent, bad unloading accident possible.

    About Los Alamos:

    http://www.nukewatch.org/lanl/index.html

    Current Mission at Los Alamos National Laboratory

    The Laboratory currently:

    * conducts research, design, and development of nuclear weapons;
    * provides assessments and certification of stockpiled weapons;
    * maintains production capabilities for limited quantities of plutonium pits for delivery to the stockpile;
    * maintains capabilities for R&D and fabrication of enriched uranium, depleted uranium, and other uranium isotope mixtures for hydrotests and joint test assemblies and fabrication of components for secondary assemblies.
    * manufactures nuclear weapon detonators for the stockpile
    * conducts tritium R&D
    * conducts hydrodynamic testing
    * conducts high explosives R&D
    * conducts environmental testing
    * maintains Category I/II quantities of SNM
    * designs and tests advanced technology concepts

    Major Facilities at LANL
    Chemistry and Metallurgy Research (CMR)

    The CMR Building, located within TA-3, has facilities in support of programs at TA-55, including analytical chemistry involving destructive and nondestructive analysis; metallographic analysis and measurement on the basis of neutron or gamma radiation; actinide research and development that may include separation of medical isotopes from targets and processing of neutron sources. In February 2004, the NNSA decided to replace the CMR Building with a new CMR Replacement Facility at TA-55 and to completely vacate and demolish the old CMR Building.
    Plutonium Complex

    TA-55 hosts PF-4 the only fully functioning plutonium facility used for pit manufacturing in the U.S. Nuclear Weapons Complex. These capabilities include plutonium casting, fabrication and machining; plutonium recovery; analytical chemistry; metal preparation; and destructive and nondestructive analysis in support of surveillance and certification. An SNM storage vault is also located at TA-55. Within TA-55 and in close proximity to PF-4 is the CMRR radiological light lab and office building, currently under construction. The proposed CMRR Nuclear Facility, if built, would also be located in TA-55 adjacent to PF-4.
    Sigma Complex

    Also within TA-3, Sigma Complex hosts research, development, and characterization on materials; fabrication from metals, ceramics, salts, beryllium, enriched uranium, depleted uranium, and other uranium isotope mixtures; analysis and fabrication of tritium reservoirs; fabrication of nonnuclear components for hydrotests and joint test assemblies; fabrication of components for pits and secondary assemblies.
    Nicholas C. Metropolis Center for Modeling and Simulation

    The Metropolis Center is rooted in the Accelerated Strategic Computing Initiative. The infrastructure of this facility utilizes extremely fast supercomputers, high-speed networks, visualization centers and interactive data analysis to support the Stockpile Surveillance program.
    Dual Axis Radiographic Hydrodynamic Test Facility (DARHT)

    DARHT is used to perform non-nuclear hydrodynamic experiments to study and measure dynamic aspects of implosion systems, shock physics and high velocity impacts. Although the NNSA announced in May of 2008 that DARHT was fully operational, there have been significant difficulties and delays in getting the second axis online and available for conducting tests.
    Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE)

    LANSCE hosts a high intensity proton linear accelerator and the Weapons Neutron Research facility where high energy un-moderated neutrons and protons are used for weapons-related basic and applied research. Also at LANSCE is the Lujan Center, which employs moderated spallation neutrons for research and engineering in condensed-matter science.
    High Explosives Processing

    These facilities spread across several Technical Areas are used to evaluate stockpile returns; develop and characterize new explosive materials; research waste treatment methods; and to fabricate materials and parts for hydrodynamic tests.
    High Explosives Testing

    Firing sites for explosive tests at several Technical Areas are used to conduct explosive experiments and studies using depleted uranium in dynamic experiments, and hydrodynamic tests.
    Weapons Engineering Tritium Facilitiy (WETF)

    Tritium operations at WETF include high-pressure gas fills; processing and testing operations for gas boost systems of nuclear weapons. The facility supports the surveillance of the gas delivery systems in the legacy stockpile and stores, in environmental conditions, gas transfer systems to study the aging of these systems in the legacy stockpile.
    Bioscience Facilities (previously called Health Research Laboratory)

    Located in several Technical Areas, the Bioscience Facilities conduct research into detecting and countering biological threats; modeling disease management, infection and immune response; surveillance of disease spread; protein engineering; theoretical science for development of new vaccines and genome-scale measurements and analysis.
    Target Fabrication Facility

    The Target Fabrication Facility at TA-35 conducts target material characterization and technology development for weapons production and laser fusion research.
    Radiochemistry Facility

    Located in TA-48 the Radiochemistry facility conducts radiological and chemical analyses of samples and produces medical isotopes.
    Material Sciences Laboratory

    The Material Sciences Laboratory at TA-3 develops and improves materials formulation and chemical processing technologies, mechanical testing, research, synthesis, and characterization.
    Radioactive Liquid Waste Treatment Facility (RLWTF)

    This facility treats transuranic and low-level radioactive liquid wastes generated at LANL facilities. The (RLWTF) also manages the final disposition of these treated wastes.
    Area G

    Area G, in TA-54, is the Lab’s largest disposal area. It has been in operation since 1957. Area G is currently the site of the active low-level waste dump.
