Fukushima nuclear catastrophe closer than thought, The Australian by Rick Wallace, December 2, 2011:
Molten nuclear fuel in one reactor at Japan’s stricken Fukushima Daiichi plant burned through the steel pressure vessel and three-quarters of the surrounding concrete containment vessel that formed the reactor’s last substantial internal barrier.
The revelation of the near “China Syndrome” meltdown is yet another revision of the severity of the disaster [...]
The operator and the government agencies in charge of regulating the nuclear industry have consistently underestimated the severity of events at the plant.
Keiji Miyazaki, a professor emeritus of nuclear engineering at Osaka University, told The Wall Street Journal that questions now had to be posed about why it took so long to come up with a way to cool this reactor. “There has to be a long period of time without any (cooling) water being injected into the reactor for the fuel to melt through the concrete bottom,” he said.
Japan’s tsunami-hit Fukushima plant’s reactor was perilously close to full meltdown, ANI, Dec. 1, 2011:
[...] TEPCO and the Japanese Government have revealed for the first time that the nuclear fuel rods in reactor Number 1 likely melted completely, burning a hole through one surrounding vessel and eating through up to three-quarters of the concrete base at the bottom [...]
That brought the fuel closer than previously believed to breaching the containment vessel and continuing to burn through the ground below, a catastrophic scenario sometimes described as the “China Syndrome” [...]
Earlier, TEPCO had said only that it thought unit Number 1′s fuel was more than half melted, and that some had fallen into the containment vessel.
The findings are the latest reminder of how dangerous the mid-March accident at Fukushima Daiichi was and how much remains unknown. [...]
Remember what Kyoto University professor Hiroaki Koide told the News York Times, “This is still an overly optimistic simulation [by Tepco and Japan gov't ...] even by their own simulation, it’s very borderline.”

well, at least it’s finally on the news, albeit 8-plus months outdated…

If TEPCO is saying this now, it must have happened six months ago.

the thing is, at least for myself that I already fuckin knew that this shit was going to china syndrome in fuckin April. Im not even a damn nuclear physicist, just a person with common sense. i’ve been waiting since april for this shit to hit the water table. they were just brain washing us to think all is good. i remember like 3-4 weeks ago all the reports saying “oh fukushima isnt as bad as previously thought”, and all i would say is YEAH FUCKING RIGHT. NOW LOOK! FUCK YOU ALL!

So at which point did something happen that made crevices open up in the ground that emitted steam? Remember that part?

Right! Corium is likely ALL the way through no. 1. No surprise if a little corium explosion created the nearby crack during a storm. Same scenario at no. 3, 4. We are awake, our eyes wide open. We can see rising reddish/greenish gas at night, blue light specials, and possibly a fire next to no. 4 (in the open air pool?). There are a few dark red balls ‘o fire at the same spot near no. 4 last night. Between no. 2 and no. 3, more reddish shadows. Lousy resolution Tepco cam doesn’t show all ongoing gas plumes or explosions. They’re stringing us along bit by bit. Maintain confusion until the job is done. Now they say 30 years to decommission Daiichi. Meanwhile no overt demands from IAEA, NATO, blah blah int’l groups to force information out into the open. Why? The U.S. knows what happened and condones the actions. We poor slobs are not privy to the motivations of Obama’s corporate and nuclear confidants. Looks like the cabal is in charge.
An annoying worry of mine is that another earthquake will topple no. 4 in total and send a radioactive tidal wave towards the West Coast, sooner than expected. Surfs up! One big mega explosion is possible but is it more likely than ongoing lights and colored gas rising in discrete segments – anyone?

Meanwhile, ocean water cools the reactor blobs at basement level. Situation managed? I think not. TONS of radioactive water go in and out with the tide every day, to snuff the entire water column of the Pacific Ocean. The Japanese are breathing/eating a mess of isotopes, including Tritium (See Fukushima Diary about Tritium and ‘no mask needed.’ Also, see ‘I am Uranium” about a Tokyo woman found with isotopes of Zirconium, Uranium, Titanium, Nickel, Silver, Palladium, and Tin in her body! She thought she was protected.

For sure, the half lives of ‘hell’ will be distributed unevenly in a phantasmagoric metamorphosis of radioactive isotopes throughout the entire Northern Hemisphere. You will not know when you will get your dose of ‘Pacific Soup.’

It’s like listening to a skip in the record, just keep saying the same thing. Everything is fine and undercontrol, meltdown here and there, could be leaving the building…then back to Oh wait everything is fine, decontaminating, rebuilding, more radiation, wait, there may be a melt down here, its possible, yes it has happened, the corium may have left the building. All three reactors, reator number one, reactors 1-3, meltdown in reactor 2. Reactor one may have a breach. Meltdown in all reactors….Everything is fine,….We are not worried about this very worring situation….

I really don’t think they will say how hopeless the situation is and the very real possibilities that may lye ahead, especially for the people of Japan or the rest of the world, too much of a shock that would make other major world countries needing to come clean, I think they (them in charge) may act surprised when event unfold, playing the victim as the people of Japan have become, it is their best defense to save face and maybe there own lives as Japans peoples loved ones start to die !

I hope this doesn’t mean things are going to pop off.Why would they admit anything now after saying everything is not as bad as before? All tepco does is deceive so things must really be off the charts out of control, that loop on the web cam might hold some clues as to their motives.

How does that bonehead think water is going to cool a blob at 3000 deg C. Why doesn’t he go piss on the sun and see he can cool it. These professional students with PHDs need get their nose back in the books. Common sense has alluded them.

The crappiest part of this whole ordeal is that if you estimate the cores to have dug down 6 feet already there is only a short amount of time before it hits water. The water underground will rise and deplete like with the tides so depending on if the tide is in or not the reactor cores will have different reactions based on when they touch soil or soil saturated with salt water. Sulfer 35 will be an immediate indicator that the cores have touched water while the tide is in enough to react. If core products showing isotopes that come from reacting sand then the tide is out and it is only a matter of time before the molten sand hits the water slowly washing in towards land. We should brace for impact if TEPCO had significant delays in reporting their situation. After 3 months I was expecting reports of China Syndrome. When 5 months rolled by I knew that the cores had breached the containment. What I needed to know was how deep and how much further until the cores hit the sand. Thank you TEPCO for screwing the pooch and telling everyone its ok when the cores are closer than ever to reactive substances. Sprits be tellin me we all be in danger.

Hello brother GB,
Been getting the same vibe for some time.
All we can do is watch and seek proper information in the face of all the negativity and media grandstanding that there is nothing to be concerned about.
One begins to feel like we are all commentators to the biggest scariest most horrendous catastrophic game/movie never ending unfolding story that could ever plague the human species. Most biological lifeforce will have some sort of reaction to the continuing long term accumulations. Most will die off.
Surly, prudence is the word for of the day in these modern times and those with ears to hear and eyes to see will. Those who live in ignorance will also earn what they sow.

How far down is the groundwater? Several months ago, I read that it was 12 meters below the containment. That would mean the corium is at the groundwater right now. Does anyone have any information on this?
Report Comment
Last I heard it was estimated at 60 feet; however, under #3 it may be closer to the surface.

Hello BH,
This question has been asked before and it seems to be a growing concern. Sooner or later someone will come forth with some kind of math to find out when the greatest possibility of a hydrovolcanic detonation could happen. The japanese used to be pretty good with this kind of stuff, but now they can not even get a clear video or photographic picture of what is really happening there in real time. Go figure.
Bear in mind also that the sotero/obama bunch saw it coming before the supposed hydro-explosion at number three on March 14th and were already on the way out of town knowing it was coming fast in the jet stream back then.
There are charts that show the depth of the water table and that info is out there. What is not actually factually known is how deep any of these reactors have bored down into the containment structures, or earth itself.
What is certain is until these things are completely extinguished and buried, it is ONLY getting worse and time will tell when this will eventually pop-goes-the-weasel.
All we can do is to prepare for this possible eventuality and live well in each present moment using the unique analysis tools that so many here on enenews have developed.
Hooya to ya all!
