Well, Obe that was probably the most horrifying thing I've ever read and I'm an enenewser. I feel sick to my stomach and I will try not to cuss. I don't even know where to begin. "enhancing abilities of individuals for anamolous behavior" wtf does that even mean(navy yard shooter?) maybe, I don't know. They might "pop" our ionosphere. Wtf will that do? Elites could use it to create "a highly contolled technosociety." They murderous rampaging lunatics could cause mild to severe "physiological disruption and perceptional distortion or disorientation." And they spent around 3 trillion dollars developing these weapons of global destruction. Did they set any money aside to save us from their dumbass, power-crazed mindless destruction of every fucking thing?

Obe: Funny how the climate deniers have shifted gears on climate change on sites like you linked = GlobalResearch (a long time CC denier site and a Russian front group ??? (I'm not anti Russian – it is just suspect in its reporting regarding all things Russian))

The absolutely terminally lame Geoengineering Watch site that was linked on here the other day as the latest on climate change – with it's past denier linkages so clearly defined is another example of this type of site.

Wonder why, this article is in the media and FUFU ain't? Heh? Ever think of that?

Nuclear is another issue that is only fair game to talk about – when and if it fits the neocon's neoliberal imperial agenda.

Just like the Orange Flash in Iran of 2 months ago that made the rounds of the most reactionary sources in the media and was quickly dropped.

I will take this report with the grain of salt that it deserves given the location of the plant. That is not to say, I am not concerned about nuclear problems where ever they exist. I just consider the source and the agenda when they are published openly.

  • I can find NO new information on the Zaporizhye nuclear plant event. Almost all information I can find on the web is dated 12/3, or derives from news reports made on 12/3.

I can find NO new information anywhere, even Twitter feed posts are dated.

I want to know why there has been NO UPDATES on the status on a nuclear plant problem that hypothetically could cause cooling problems for the core or spent fuel?

I'm not implying that events are not as reported. However, I find the dearth of information significant. It reminds me of how ebola disappeared from the headlines after Obama appointed Ron Klain ebola czar.

INFORMATION ITEM: Over summer Westinghouse agreed to supply atomic fuel to Ukraine, causing consternation for Switzerland and OSCE

[Excerpted] The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe shares Moscow's concern on world nuclear safety and the potential threat that possible US atomic fuel supplies to Ukraine might cause as the country remains in crisis.

Majia here: The US wants Ukraine as a puppet state for a variety of strategic reasons. Apparently, the US is willing to risk disaster by keeping nuclear reactors running while war is waged against separatists and, by proxy, Russia (which also wants Ukraine as its client state).

    • More from the article:

In early June, Gutenev sent a letter to Burkhalter warning of security threats that European nations will face in case of a potential industrial nuclear disaster at one of Ukraine's power plants, as Kiev is planning to sign a contract with American Westinghouse Electric Company. He highlighted the fact that Soviet made nuclear plants are not compatible with fuel assembly type TBC-W offered by the Americans, as previous trials have shown.

“The nuclear reactors in Ukraine are of Russian (Soviet) design, which are only designed for fuel that has passed a special certification. Therefore, further attempts to use non-adapted fuel assemblies of American production without a corresponding adjustment increase the risk of failure of the Ukrainian reactors and dramatically increase the likelihood of man-made disasters,” Gutenev wrote in June, calling on the OSCE to consider the issue. [end]

I have no way of knowing whether radiation was released but I am outraged that the US would contribute to keeping nukes running in a very dangerous civil war.

      • Apparently Westinghouse was also going to install "a passive hydrogen control system" for Zaporozhye reactor units 1 and 2:

Westinghouse Hydrogen Recombiners for Ukraine Reactors
Oct. 30, 2014—Westinghouse Electric Co. has been awarded a contract by Ukraine’s Energoatom to provide a passive hydrogen control system for the Zaporozhye 1 and 2 nuclear reactors.
Westinghouse’s passive autocatalytic recombiner system, or NIS-PAR, is designed to provide additional measures to ensure containment integrity in the event of certain design-basis or beyond-design-basis accidents. It is to be installed by January 2016.

"…I want to know why there has been NO UPDATES on the status on a nuclear plant problem that hypothetically could cause cooling problems for the core or spent fuel?"

Because U.S. companies are frothing at the mouth to win the contracts for Yats' planned NEW nuclear power plants in Ukraine. No vote by the Ukrainian people of course – Yats (and his U.S. masters) have already decided for the people.

The last thing either side wants is bad PR interfering with cramming more nuke power plants down the Ukrainian people's throats. Chernobyl, deformed babies and all.

"…I'm not implying that events are not as reported…"

Allow me to imply: they probably contain material mis-statements, omit critical details, or are outright lies. The Jewish-Ukrainian oligarchs that run the 'new' government also own all the Ukrainian MSM outlets and – in the case of Igor Kolomoisky – also own the nuclear power plants. Spoils from the fall of the Soviet Union. The Ukrainian MSM is the most heavily censored, propagandized broadcasting and press in all of Eastern Europe. I'm surprised they said anything at all about the 'accident' – it must have been serious enough that some news would leak out.

Kolomoisky is the nutjob that mined the huge dam upstream from Zaporizhye and threatened to blow it if the separatists got close. The plant is actually a hundred miles West of the Donbass area – nowhere close to the fighting.

      • PavewayIII PavewayIII

Westinghouse has at least three know juicy 'projects' in play in Ukraine: possible new nuclear power plants, upgrades on existing ones, and fuel.

The fuel part has the most catastrophic potential. Westinghouse is so desperate to stay in the nuclear fuel game that it reverse-engineered and cloned (poorly) the Russian VVER fuel bundles filled with Westinghouse rods. Illegal and dangerous – they did this without any specs from Russian reactor engineers unique to VVER design. The bundles (installed in the South NPP Unit #2 and #3) warped and corroded. The head of Ukraine's nuclear regulators banned future use of Westinghouse fuel in their Russian reactors.

New puppet government fires the old regulators and the new ones 'reconsidered' Westinghouse's flawed knock-offs. Miracle of miracles, they decided that the bundles just needed a little more work and they could be used. Needless to say, Russian VVER engineers are terrified of the potential consequences of Westinghouse clones in their reactors.

Niqnaq uses the Yandex translator on the original article (Russian) so it's a little rough. He also refers to the USA as Pindostan in his articles (long story).

      • PavewayIII PavewayIII

Apparently South #3 still has a partial load of Westinghouse bundles. I was looking for any clues that someone may have confused South NPP with Zaporozhye NPP in the accident reports but found nothing.

Same results you had majia – everything references the single 'official' Yats media statement: "Transformer problem unrelated to the reactor's operation. Nothing to worry about."

Can't even tell for sure if they scrammed it. That's a huge, thirty-some year old one-gigawatt VVER reactor. Design seems solid (when you use the proper fuel), but the size makes it terrifying in its own right.

'to congratulate him on formation of the new government .. & discussed Ukraine’s near- and long-term energy security, and the Vice President pledged continued U.S. technical support.'

Footnote on Biden – his son was appointed board on Burisma, the Ukrainian gas company. ZeroHedge article notes they've made sweet use of the crisis in Eastern Ukraine – with people fleeing villages, Burisma was able to slip right in & start fracking ( under normal circumstances the process would have taken at least a decade )→

    • @ y'all – Seriously: WAS THERE a causal link between the Nov 28, 2014 Accident at the Zaporizhye Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine and (likely/apparent) Radiation Spikes in Latvia and Romania that week?

Turned my blog back on, and put some puzzle pieces together…

      • bo bo

MVB all I can say is this – it was bugging me so much that week, I connected to a tweeter who spoke Russian & was able to dig up one very basic sounding government announcement that clearly stated: 'zapo back online !!' Good. That ensured me not biting my nails through friday night..

        but then..

I expected sources like NYT, Cnn, RT to follow suit the next day.. but strangely..they never did.

Western media coverage all ended at: 'zapo WILL go back on line friday night' – then after that announcement it was as though they all forgot to check back in.

I guess 'zapo WILL go back on line..' was enough assurance for most people..? Not everyone is a nail biting, nervous-nelly like me..?

It was a bit of an odd ending..

        • @ Bo. True that. The "lack of interest" appears to go well beyond journalistic laziness at this point. The most amazing pieces I found included (literally) Romanian and Moldavian news sources stating (in Romanian) that they were tracking a radioactive cloud, Polish rumors about that, and even some dude in Kiev who claimed they gave him KI upon arrival in Kiev. Put together with radiation spikes, monitors going blank, a geopolitical mess and widespread cyber-freakishness, and I'm left with the impression that 1) there was a release; and 2) it was covered up in almost all media outlets.

OPen to other interpretations, though… . I'd like to thank you, Maija, Vital1, Female Faust, and others who pitched in on this issue that deserves far more investigation than it has gotten so far. If the free press of the western world is toast, we're scarily close to the US resembling the USSR 30 years ago. Just saying the obvious. PEACE.

This is a classic case of a nuclear meltdown being covered up. It always starts out with "there has been an accident, but no one is in danger". A month later you find out that there was a major radiation release and the nearest town has been poisoned.
