Air monitoring stations, Washington State Department of Health, April 4, 2011:
…The chart shows radiations measures known as “gross beta,” a term that refers to all radioactive materials that emit beta radiation. Gross beta measurements are used because they give us the fastest indication of any change in radiation levels. They’re measured in “counts per minute.” …

Here in Austin Tx we have had very high (up to 300 CPM) gross beta and every now and then the site for Austin is unavailable. I think that is when they pull the plug and stop the count so the averages will stay lower. I took photos of yellow dust/powder which covered everyhing when the count was so high and was mocked that it was pollen. Strange, Chernobyl and Japan both had yellow rain. Yellow is the color of It might be that the pollen itself mixed with radioactive particles from the power plant. Or it could be Uranium oxide is an oxide of the element uranium, which is also a fine yellow powder.
Meanwhile, the establishment media bizarrely pretends that the crisis is all but over… to be continued…for generations.

I saw an article somewhere lately,
saying that a dirty little secret of the nuke industry is
that a known accident, leak, release of radiation can be
used by other facilities to dump unwanted stuff, like clearing the stacks or low-level waste, because the detection alarms can
be attributed to the known source, so they get away with
illegal dumping and cut costs.
Richland, WA, of course is right in the Hanford original Plant
zone there, where reportedly many pounds of plutonium has
disappeared over the years.

There’s also a radioactive waste site just south of Boise.
My thoughts when I first read about this was because of the waste sites, these cities must have a higher ‘base’ of radioactivity than other places. Since radioactivity can accumulate, it would make sense that any blanket level we’re all getting would add onto their base level and make the totals come out higher than anyone else.

I was wondering why would radiation concentrate in that specific area and I’m guessing that as air from the Pacific reaches the high peaks of the Rocky Mts. it may be forced down. That would also explain the high levels of iodine in Boise, a little farther to the East, while coastal sites keep showing relatively low levels of radiation.
Richland is the only of such monitor sites in Washington state east of the Cascade mts., which may be too low to block the incoming radioactive (high altitude) winds.

The Rockys create a rake to the higher levels and then a downward path to the mis-west plains.

The monitors readings started to go up and then all the sudden all Radnet monitors offline in are area for the day before they could show anything substantial. It almost seemed as if u could watch radnet monitoring stations shutdown a cross the U.S. in correlation with what the projection map showed.

What is going on in Florida?
EPA Radiation detectors show NOTHING passed March 18th.
There’s a sulfur smell in the air and a haze on the horizon! Also, the air is powdery. No, it’s not pollen.
Anybody know of anyone doing independent air monitoring in Florida?

Since this event seems to eclipse Chernobyl, they are not sure what to do. So they just prolong the inevitable for as long as possible. Since this is uncharted territory they simply put off the panic for as long as possible. They don’t know how to fix it. They don’t know how to contain it. Its so bad they cant even describe it. So if there is no hope, they try and make everything seem as normal and hope for the best as we spiral into darkness.

How sensitive is your counter? I got 3 today that measure 0-10 mR/h on the most sensitive setting. I’m not sure how far above 0 something has to be to actually register. And I have another one coming that’s supposed to measure 0.05-0.5 mR/hr on the low setting. They’re all old military surplus counters, so hopefully they still work. Next thing I need is a sensitive dosimeter. But most of the old civil defense ones showing up on ebay were designed for measuring fallout from nuclear bombs, and aren’t sensitive enough for nuclear reactor accidents.

Japan Nuclear Ocean Watch: Radioactive Water, Dolphins and Plastic Bottles
They’re not merely morally dishonest in ignoring inconvenient truths, as Krugman notes; they’re a menace.
Now, many months later, as higher numbers of dead turtles and baby dolphins continue to wash up on Gulf shores, the feds who tried to diminish the risks and silence the researchers then are now telling independent scientists they can’t have samples to test independently because it all has to be kept secret for the federal criminal investigation. That would be the same federal government notorious for not prosecuting senior government or corporate executives for major crimes, the same forward looking Administration that prefers to reach a “settlement” with fraudulent banksters and polluters who pay a modest fine and agree not to do again what they don’t admit they did in the first place. ….
Now, the exact same people who brought you that life-killing assault on the Gulf and the people whose lives depend on it, and the same state and federal officials who assured us it was safe the first time, want to resume their drilling activities as though nothing had happened. And for them, nothing meaningful has. They’ll give themselves awards for safety and then use the same flawed equipment that failed several times before and that will, sooner or later, fail again. …
I don’t diminish for a moment the real dilemmas, the awful choices facing the Japanese. Because we are where we are, those choices range from godawful to truly horrific. I suspect their officials believe they’re doing the best they can, and there’s no doubt of the courage of the Japanese workers struggling to contain the monster their and our corporations and governments have released on the planet. …
What’s happening at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear plant is not just about them or just about nuclear. And it’s time for an accounting, a moment when a lot more people…

I live in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio at a much higher elevation than down by lake Erie, but every time I go outside to run errands or just outside and back into the house, I notice that my eyes start burning and tearing. Granted I have allergies, but what gives with this? We’ve had lots of rain lately, huge thunderstorms and the water is just sitting in puddles every where. Also, I feed my animals and cats outside and I’m worried about the creek near us. We have deer, wild turkeys, raccoons, possums, etc.. that all drink water from the creek. Also, the wind is ferocious here, too.
But when I feed my animals and cats I have to trek through swampy, muddy water and I could be bringing this radioactive mud? into the house on my boots. I have been filling the bowls in the back with fresh tap water and dumping out the rainwater for the animals.
Just to let you know that I really enjoy your website and please pray for everyone, especially the Japanese, who have lost their beautiful land and coastline by the sea. I pray every night for everyone. God bless you all!

Well yes whenever there is a spike the equipment is pulled for testing. And to prevent panic. So the monitors are only to reassure the public. When the levels are dangerous, the monitors would probably be pulled.

I love Ohio, but it has pretty bad air pollution and acid rain to begin with. Cities like Cincy and Cleveland rank in the top 10 or at least top 20 every year for most polluted air for all cities in USA. Environmental orgs and the American Lung Association are lobbying hard to keep those idiots in Washington from slashing Clean Air Act regulations to “cut” the budget. This would balloon public health and disability entitlement costs, not to mention directly KILL thousands of people. All the while they retain Billion$ in subsidies and trillion$ in tax breaks for the corporate polluters–not to mention their own pay raises!! This is really happening in the budget debate in Congress now!!!

If you look up Strontium on Wikipedia you will find that Strontium Oxide is yellow. Could that be the yellow in the nuclear rain at Chernobyl and now Tokyo?
When I sent a link about Chernobyl’s yellow rain to a colleague in Tokyo they said “I wondered what that yellow stuff was everywhere”, so presumably there is plenty of it about Tokyo.
Someone in my dance class is from the Ukraine. When I mentioned Tokyo has had yellow rain, she confirmed that is what they had from Chernobyl and that its bad stuff. During Chernobyl’s disaster Ukranians were told it was just pollen. Now in Tokyo they have been told “don’t worry its only pollen”. Same lie, new disaster.
Here in NZ we are famous for having pollen, and for it aggravating Asthma. I have never seen yellow rain in my life.

Dan..those meters do not sound too sensitive..They should be able to read down in the micro rem/hr not just milli. Also they need to read A,B and G radiation.Meters need a geiger tube for that. Some of those surplus ones don’t use
geiger tubes but ionization chambers.
There’s lots of good ones out there, not cheap but of course most are out of stock now!
But expect to pay at least $300-400 dollars for a good one that has a geiger tube, digital readout, etc.

Dan..the last meter starting at .05mR/hr would mean 50 microR/hr which is about 3 times your typical background radiation,so it should give you a warning..depending on if it detects all 3 types of radiation and if it is still calibrated.
