Title: Overcoming ‘Fukushima syndrome’
Source: Voice of Russia

[...] Earlier in the week, medics said that plutonium-241 was detected in the 30-km evacuation zone around the Fukushima NPP. Plutonium-241 has a half-life of 14 years, and it then decays into highly toxic americium-241 which is easily absorbed by bean plants, including soya which is widely used by the Japanese. [...]

Read the report here

“The level [of plutonium-241] will not affect human health. Plutonium-241 has relatively short half life of 14 years compared to other isotopes of plutonium. It decays into americium-241, which is easily absorbed through soil into legumes. The NIRS says ‘To avoid internal radiation exposure, it is necessary to survey the spread of plutonium-241 inside the 20 kilometer zone around the plant.’” -Kyodo

"The level [of plutonium-241] will not affect human health"… they discovered a "safe" amount of plutonium to eat, uh huh.

But the americium is like strontium, it spreads through the environment much faster than plutonium, you are more likely to come into contact with it.

Americium smoke detectors should be banned.
But now, you can get it in the water, and the air, and your food!

So what about legumes and soy in North America? Will they be toxic now also?

Most of the soy grown in the US goes into animal feed.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soybean

Soybean meal is the material remaining after solvent extraction of oil from soybean flakes, with a 50% soy protein content. The meal is 'toasted' (a misnomer because the heat treatment is with moist steam) and ground in a hammer mill. Soybean meal is an essential element of the American production method of growing farm animals, such as poultry and swine, on an industrial scale that began in the 1930s; and more recently the aquaculture of catfish. Ninety-eight percent of the U.S. soybean crop is used for livestock feed.[34] Soybean meal is also used in lower-end dog foods.

Arnie Gundersen said on one of his videos that americium was detected in Boston.

Depends on the amount of fallout. West of the Rockies?? In the SE USA the levels could be lower..hard to tell. No one in our government is talking about any contamination..with data to back it up. Funny-lawyers and government agencies all want "facts", data..to back up theory. A person is told "need facts" to make a case. Now WE need facts-"all is fine" is NOT a data point. Where is USA dosimeter data for the Fukushima radiation traveling with the Jet Stream and in the oceans?

The Japanese consume a lot of soy based products…tofu, miso, tamari…etc.
    This is awful…

Think they will stop growing soy in the contaminated areas? Hope….dies eternal..

Perhaps within the 12 km..but what good would that do? ..it is already uninhabited..
The surrounding areas(contaminated) will contunue to grow soy..I don't have the data ..but I assume most legumes have a high absorption rate.
