Title: 9:30 a.m. Assumption Officials Respond to Texas Brine’s Press Release
Source: Assumption Parish Police Jury
Date: Sept 25, 2012
Emphasis Added

Assumption Parish officials have been advised by DNR [Louisiana Department of Natural Resources] that their exploratory well observers have confirmed that brine cavern #3 has failed. Per Texas Brine’s press release, “[...] The retrieved material does not appear to be consistent with material normally found in brine cavern operations. [...] This statement confirms the suspicions of parish officials: Texas Brine Oxy Cavern #3 had failed.

[...] Given the confirmation of the failure of Texas Brine’s cavern, the parish will continue to look to Texas Brine for accountability and evacuee assistance.

What’s in the cavern? Salt cavern filled with radioactive waste

So what is the significance of this "failure"?

"We expect that the sonar inspection that is currently being conducted will provide a more detailed image of the cavern’s interior conditions and the possible source of the material at its base.”

Is there some reason a sonar exam wasn't done weeks ago so that we would have a better idea of what is happening?

That's what the drilling the last few weeks has been for, Many Moons.

Texas Brine plugged and abandoned the well/cavern last year. Louisiana ordered them to drill back into the cavern a few weeks ago when the sinkhole appeared.

The drillers just poked through the cavern ceiling (3400' underground) on Saturday evening, so they're finally doing the tests now.

It doesn't take a month if they were just trying to drill a single hole straight to the cavern, but they can't do it like that. They needed to stop a few times to cement progressively smaller pipes on the way down so nothing leaks in or out of the drill hole.

I probably should have pointed out that the testing they're doing now is using a sonic caliper. Sort of like a skinny torpedo they lower down into the cavern. It plots the size of the cavern with sound waves.

That's unrelated to *seismic* surveying where they pound the surface and listen for the echoes. That also uses some skinny torpedo-shaped listening devices, but those wouldn't be in the cavern itself. Seismic is for mapping deep geological features over a large area. They could probably tell the cavern is there with seismic, but couldn't tell much about the shape or if the walls were collapsing.

I think the best way to see what the potential implications are we should look at other instances of a salt cavern collapse. This video is of Lake Peignor sink hole disaster. The difference between the two is Lake Peignor did not have waste stored in it.

sworldpeas: I've viewed a Peignor video and recommend viewing for any who've not seen it. It's eye-popping, jaw-dropping. Wonder if similar "set up" conditions exist why it's not already swallowed itself and all around. Probably doesn't matter – different disaster, and more toxic by far seems likely. (In any case, the Peignor story is a 'must' on several levels and thanks for the link!!!)

Hi Maggi I think we will see a total collapse soon enough. It seems like it started off slowly with a few bubble sites. Now we are seeing more and more bubble sites and the cavern has 1300 feet of "material" resting on the floor, something BIG is happening for sure. On a positive note it could also fill up entirely with said "material" and close it's self off completely and we all live happily ever after! right?! :)

Since Texas Brine HAD to do sesmic and geographic studies to get PERMISSION to drill at that location..and Mantis Oil company LLC as well–they should have KNOWN the potential for "tremors"..earthquakes. Which is why USGS called them TREMORS.

Jec. I chuckled at that too.. and if you have been reading the DNR sites and others, there have been more geographic studies.. aka concussion tests.. that residents will feel, but should not be alarmed by.. so, the very tests that allow these companies to mine the salt dome are collapsing the salt dome??? bwhahahaha.. I just have to laugh at the stupidity of man, oh I mean the corporation. Wait is there a difference??? not according to the Supreme Court..

Sorry about laughing.. not appropriate.. it is just that is how my outrage has morphed.. I cried enough over the last year and a half. Now I find laughter and sarcasm as copping mechanisms ;)

In Louisiana, jec? I'm not so sure. I don't think you even have to be *breathing* to get a drilling permit. Maybe take the minerals guys out on a fishing trip on your yacht. Send a few lobsters to the Gov'. Take the EPA lackeys out bowling (pay for their shoe rental, too!).

That's why the bayou looks and smells like a sewer. Port Allen (few miles NE of sinkhole) is home to the finest stinky toxic chemical production facilities on earth. At least the ones we haven't exported (yet) to third-world countries with fewer lawyers.

I wonder how the two guys are doing that were in a boat trying to clean up this mess? Their boat was tied to a tree, when the tree was sucked into the sinkhole. They were rescued by an airboat. This happened over a month ago. Bet they have been feeling sick for weeks now???

Any claimed 'sick feelings' are likely caused by hysterics or their own weakness of spirit. The slurry may have actually strengthened their immune systems and made them healthier.

I should also point out that they were NOT authorized by Texas Brine to enter the Bat-cave. If they would have been sucked into the whirlpool and deposited in the cavern, they could have discovered valuable proprietary trade secrets and be subject to criminal prosecution. Cajuns take their IP laws very seriously. So do the Yakuza.

  • CONFIRMED: The storage of radioactive toxic waste has failed.

There are a lot of implications.
MANY, too many, not mentioned or ignored in my opinion.

Of course getting people out is priority, but what about the animals that somehow contact this 'goo'. The insects and plants as well.

    Ecosystems disrupted…

    Spreading and Accumulation:
So when a bird a mile away eats the bugs who came in contact with the sinkhole that's contaminated the bird is now contaminated too. Where that bird poops or dies will be slightly contaminated yet again.

If that bug or bird, (as an example), flies 100 miles away and poops on YOUR garden veggies. Uh oh! …is right. The only reason, 'it's not much of a concern', is because you'll never know the difference. Until you or a loved one is sick. …and you'll never know why.

The longer term effects – chromosomes:
DNA damage and mutations to 'living' things.

ChasAha: Omniversling posted this link http://youtu.be/x4ei_pypCF8 because of the reality of radioactive black dust during Australia's testing history. (2005 docu "Austrailia's Atomic Confessions").

(Omniversling gave additional observations on 'black substance' topic at http://enenews.com/photos-radioactive-black-substance-found-230-km-from-fukushima-plant-in-kanto-region-tomioka-gunma-it-seems-to-be-everywhere/comment-page-1#comment-290754.)

IMO the documentary is excellent viewing to appreciate immediate and trans-generation health damage, plus it clearly reveals dangerous-to-life attitudes of pro-nuclear weapon/utility planners re nuclear uses and storage of radioactive materials post-use. IMO their attitudes are a perfect match for Japanese (and US, other…) 'top' officials.

I think the docu, comprehensive and compelling, may be one of the best to get realities to soak into heads of people who don't yet appreciate – we're "surrounded" by active sources of contaminants – no matter where anyone goes! Trick will be to get nonchalant audiences to view it!

And now we can definitely include a large swath of Australia as we visualize damaged regions on the globe!

I accept there are no guarantees in life, or for a long life, but it's WAY TO EARLY to be planning my own funeral. I can't IMAGINE what it must be like in Japan/Asia, or North Americas (for the VERY FEW amongst us who are WATCHING and CONTRIBUTING to the debate) where levels of acutely toxic and deadly irradiation are rising rapidly, without respite, and NO WAY to fix it, control it, or turn it off.

I was living in Greece on the island of Paros during Chernobyl. I got caught in the rain in Athens, I went to my hotel and scrubbed down, and put my clothes in the bin. I watched people fight in supermarkets for the last tins of canned food off the shelves. My mum got thyroid cancer 5 years ago. My plants and grape vine on Paros sprouted triple/quadruple speed shoots for a few months. And my citrus here in south west Australia did the same in May 2011. Totally un-natural (and not since), and with the common background of a major radiation release. Perhaps skyshine, or 'quantum knowledge' of the planet. I don't think we know the half of what's really going on with radiation. That's clear and accepted (see Pu bucky balls etc).

I'm wondering if my current heart conditions is related to the 'super shoots' on my citrus. But will I ever know? I thought we were out of the way here.. Coriolis effect for protection..(cont)

Dear Omniversling: Thank you for a deep and eloquent statement. There's no history that we know of to guide us when we discover we've been blindsided by an entire civilization of global reach!

There is a grieving process, sometimes more than one-go-around, that comes with realization meant for more 'ordinary' powerful loss but I've found myself passing through the stages, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C3%BCbler-Ross_model. I was part of back-to-land movement in 1970's and had an inkling "this can't last", but had no idea of nuclear "everywhere" entanglement or severity of climate change. I've touched base with others who also describe themselves as "going through a grieving process". Which – by the way – cannot be rushed, it is a matter of "allowing" your self to experience what you experience and allow some shifting from one stage to next. (oversimplified but …)

Possible hopeful thought this morning – in part from Australia video – not everyone developed symptoms. Bleak hint of promise – 14thC European plague: 30% China's pop. and 30-60% European pop wiped out, (moved from China along Silk Road it's thought).

For me it's helpful to remind myself, "I've no idea how this will turn out but in case there are survivors, human + other species, (I assume there will be), what can I do? So I work at building soil on my small lot and planting permaculture. (In no position to join public citizen movements.)

Had cause to grief differently recently, (friends lost hugely significant multi-decade business they'd devoted their lives to due to fire.)

Found these two Leonard Cohen pieces, one about loss and state of human affairs, Everybody Knows" http://youtu.be/mEQldSi-heE.

The other "Anthem – Ring the Bells that Still Can Ring" is stunning in its call to keep our sense of reverence and carry on – http://youtu.be/_e39UmEnqY8.

(Warning – These songs, especially 2nd, may make you cry!)

Lastly (firstly also!) Please look after your stress! You may know/practice meditation. If not check web for basic technique description. Keep checking for something that links meditation to stress until you find something that 'feels' like you want to try it. YouTube has some vids that model/guide if you haven't practiced.

And of course if possible GET MED ADVICE, you don't say if you've got professional health care involvement.

I truly believe that nothing is more powerful than creating an alternative no matter how big or small. No act of kindness to the Earth or any living thing is wasted…no compassion unnecessary. Is there ever a time more critical for knowing dry farming? Which of us doesn't need encouragement or reminders to breathe, relax, practice meditation. How could we get our minds around the enormity of the issues without the words and links we post to each other, especially the ones that help shift the mind and heart to see the deeper paradigm problems and consider new paths. Something along the lines of the Chinese proverb – we are living in interesting times. It is bearable for me because of the voices of compassion and reason and activism here and elsewhere.

It looks like the cavern is in a unstable geological area to begin with looking at past quake activity. Then the cavern(s) was allowed to be used for storage anyway. Now they are testing to see if what was stored in the cavern is escaping to the surface.

They know what was pumped in but they are not forthwith on stating what, how much and what types of wastes can escape now.

Once town meetings stopped happening on a regular basis, you knew the blame game was in progress as to cost and responsibility. Government waived all the typical EPA guidelines for toxic storage for these caverns and companies involved will begin claiming a 'natural disaster' and taxpayers will get stuck with the cleanup costs.

The townspeople are just collateral damage, a nuisance. A lawsuit might uncover everything going on but who pays the bill?

I suggest anyone living in the area move far away just not to Fukushima.

The tremors are coming from the failure of the cavern, not the other way around. The fracking sludge vapors are erroding the walls in massive chunks, and they are falling to the bottom of the cavern, causing seismic vibrations when they land. These tremors are further weakening the geological walls of the salt dome.

In all probability, there was enough sludge placed in the cavern well to collapse the entire dome, and the area will eventually contain one rather large and very deep toxic and radioactive lake when the cap fails.

The companies storing butane in the dome should remove it at once.

Texas Brine did nothing illegal. Federal law allows for this sort of dumping of fracking related chemicals. They can come in, destroy the area, and get off with no liability, because they are protected by the fracking laws, which allows them to dump the sludge wherever they wish. The federal law would override any state laws in this manner.

Thanks to Bush/Chenney, who created the laws that allowed this sort of disaster to happen. Thanks to Obama, who didn't do enough to repeal these laws. And forbid if Romney should be elected, because he wants to remove all remaining liabilities for fracking.

Keep in mind that if it was done once because it was so convenient, it will have been done elsewhere that hasn't shown the symptoms yet. And if the laws aren't repealed, it will keep happening.

I have personally spoken to someone working in North Dakota.. he shared this toxic fracking liquid is everywhere.. in open pools, there is so much of it that the truck drivers are paid enormous amounts to just sit in line waiting to dump it… and they could be all day waiting, so interim storage plan, if you will. He also shared that they pump the fracking liquid down in to "abandoned" wells on land owners properties.. I guess I wonder how much the land owner is compensated to have the well filled with frack liquid? I wonder how many land owners needed money more than the water? I wondered how many parcels have been purchased just so the gas companies have a place to put their toxic slurry.. aka a well.

What does the failure of the Texas Brine salt dome mean? There are two problems: Gas and radiation.
Essentially, all the remaining gas in the salt dome is going to escape into the atmosphere over time. Whatever gas is left behind by the gas storage company, plus whatever natural gas happens to be in the area of the salt dome, will eventually escape. Radiation from the disposal of radioactive waste in the salt dome will be diffused throughout the sinkhole and the aquifer over time. Both gas and radiation will pollute the local aquifer, and contaminate local water wells. Sorry about that…

Let this be a lesson to all landowners in rural areas throughout the USA and the world. Do not let the "Extractors" onto your land, no matter what price they are willing to pay. Every "extraction well" becomes a "waste disposal" well. Here is a map of how the bastards have spread poisons through my beloved Northern Michigan area:
    http://www.epa.gov/r5water/uic/r5uicwells.htm#michigan
And God only knows what these bastards will drain into the ground under your feet when they have finished raping mother earth for every drop and cubic foot of whatever she has to offer. Whatever waste has been produced in the "downstate" hell holes you moved north to get away from, are delivered by semi tanker trucks at night to those injection wells. The corporations lay waste to your land, take their profits for their managers, directors, and stockholders, and leave the problems…

Just a thought. The material at the bottom of the cavern didn't come to be there naturally. They admit it is not something they expected to be there. If it was salt or natural rock, that would be the expected thing if tremors had caused the walls or roof to fall in, but not so, apparently.

Certainly you would not gain 1300 feet at the bottom unless you lost 1300 feet at the top. This is not the source of the 'dense material.' It must be something that was dropped down the well, and we can be sure they know all about it, cos they would have put their hand out for the money to accept it for dumping. Next they will possibly claim that 'we dont know how that got there.' This sounds most like an effort to evade liability for what they KNOW is coming next.

Oh, good catch on the volume thing! And, if it were hollowed out by the fracking fluid dissolving the salt, why not dissolve from the bottom where the fluid would most likely be? Why dissolve the top? Nope. This is starting to resemble the Steven Segal movie Fire Down Below, where the Akido master played an undercover EPA Marshall catching toxic waste dumpers tossing crap down mine shafts and poisoning the local wells.

Remember, butchery has occurred throughout history. We are not unique. It is no time for palpitations. They will not save you. "The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing." Buck up. Get prepared. It's here. Now it is revealed. Now is the time to be American.

Sound extreme? Well, what in the world would you call your above comments, if not extreme? The question is: What will you DO?

irhologram, interesting reading your comments.. it made some dots line up in my local area. The police department is "beefing" up it's reserve forces, actively seeking recruits, running ads all the time and a friend of mine, who is retired military with disability, just got a call offering him a position as an officer with the National Guard.. hmmm, wonder why? No good candidates with all the troops returning home with no jobs??? Did I mention he was top sniper and taught at the sniper school? hmmm…

What if it's nuclear waste! What if 30 years ago someone came up with a great idea to solve the high price of long term storage for spent fuel and they put it in these salt domes?

Perhaps the "window of opportunity" to unilaterally shut down/ban the nuclear industry from ALL of their threatening activities has been closed?-for how long we've been taken past the point of no return by reckless, parasitic semblances of humankind who I sure as hell didn't & wouldn't pick to be allowed to hold the keys to the worst "man-made" threats to humanity's survival in existence??!!! I consider ALL of the events involving radioactive material and the rapid rise of background levels from ALL sources and sites like this one will eventually force the issue into the spotlight and make SOMEONE finally start cracking whips and get things moving finally!!Like I said,it may well be too little, too late-but coordinating & taking control of the source(s),especially Fukushitma to at least minimize releases by way of implementing a better plan than what they've done to date if possible?!!The sinkhole/saltdome disaster is another nail in Big Nuke's coffin,as is ALL of the other evidence against them which continues to build. It'll happen-even though I'm not enthused by the other 90% of the populations lack of concern & lack of common-sense displayed by overwhelming numbers of people. I feel bad for those who are sickened and/or die before the truth is universally accepted and people are rightfully enraged.Too bad children have to suffer the consequences of the apathy of those charged with nurturing & protecting them too!!~I know they'll NEVER be able to "undo" what…

I don't believe people will ever come to realize what nuclear has done/what it will do. I see people accepting the radiation, and all the lies of the nuclear industry. THe industry will never say that harmful levels of radiation have been released and people don't want to hear those words. If anyone was going to ever rally against nukes it would have happened at chernobyl or fukushima….I really don't believe that the people who make a"killing off" of the earth's wealth will ever be held responsible for their actions or it would have happened already.

But we CAN change it. We just have to WANT to badly enough…really believe that survival is at stake and be OK with changing our paradigm of what we think we "deserve" when the rest of the world supplies our lifestyle and does without. Stop watching Dancing with the Stars and buying into the fame game where many live vicariously.

Did you know a patent was granted in 2002 that REMEDIATES radioactive waste? Many think these "globalist" corporations are dooming themselves, as well, through greed. I doubt that. Here's the patent. (Of course, the originator died in a car wreck a week after filing the patent, but that's another story.)

Here's a discussion of the process. http://rense.com/general22/ds.htm Yes, it's expensive, but not a fraction as expensive as what they've already ripped us off for. You will have to copy paste these links in your URL.

The point is: radiation can be eliminated. They know this. Now you know this. What will you DO?
