  • Whoopie Whoopie

Boy, like i said – another busy day for Enenews. Yikes!

    • And a busy day for the TEPCO “smoke and mirrors” crowd too:

      * June 28th: “TEPCO restarts water-circulation cooling”

Quote: “The operator of the troubled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant has restarted its new water-recycling cooling system after repairing leaky pipes.”

Question: Aren’t those pipes filled with so much radiation that human beings can’t go near them? So, how did anyone actually repair those “leaky pipes”? And are we going to see another story tomorrow saying that the “water-recycling cooling system” has stopped again after running for “5 minutes” or “1 hour” or some such? Probably.

Timeline: – at this link are five consecutive posts detailing the timeline of “news” (= “smoke and mirrors”) about the water decontamination “system” (from June 8 to yesterday, June 27). In case anyone needs a refresher.

So, now that the water decontaminating-recycling-cooling-fantastical-fix-everything “system” is in place, it’s time to put the party tent over the whole mess:

      * June 28th: “TEPCO starts covering No.1 reactor building”

Quote: “The operator of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant has begun building a giant polyester shield over the damaged Number 1 reactor building to contain the spread of radiation.”

Question: Does the “polyester shield” remain in place (and without rips or holes) if a typhoon/super-storm hits the Fukushima plant? And what about an earthquake? Hmm?

      • fuckyoushima

human beings can get near radiation, and as long as it does not kill them, they will not know for sure it was the radiation when it eventually does kill them.

        • Yep. That’s saying it.

Though, I was under the impression from previous news articles that the radioactive water is TOO radioactive for people to even spend minutes near. In any case, let’s see what new “stories” come out tomorrow about the (mythical?!) “water-recycling system”…

      • bluerthanblu bluerthanblu

The infinite loop of stories about leaky pipes and recycling water immediately brings to mind Harry Belafonte’s song, ‘There’s a hole in the bucket, Dear Liza, Dear Liza!’

        Facility: SALEM
Region: 1 State: NJ Notification Date: 06/26/2011
“This notification is being made to report that Salem Unit 2 has experienced an automatic reactor trip. The trip was caused by 23 Reactor Coolant (RC) loop low flow and P-8 caused by 23 reactor coolant pump trip. The cause of the 23 Reactor Coolant Pump trip is under post reactor trip investigation. Main Feedwater to the Steam Generators was isolated due to the ‘Feed Water Interlock’ which is expected on a reactor trip. The Auxiliary Feed Water (AFW) system auto started on low Steam Generator levels. This is also expected on a reactor trip. 21, 22 and 23 AFW pumps all automatically started and fed the Steam Generators. 23 AFW pump has been shutdown by procedure and is available.

“The crew entered EOP-TRIP-1, and then transitioned to EOP-TRIP-2 and stabilized the plant at no load conditions. Salem Unit 2 is currently in Mode 3. Reactor Coolant System temperature is 547 degrees F with pressure at 2235 psig NOP/NOT. 21, 22, and 24 Reactor Coolant Pumps are in service.

“Decay heat removal is being provided by 21 and 22 AFW pumps via the Main Steam Dump System. All shutdown and control rods fully inserted on the reactor trip. The plant is aligned with normal electrical lineup from offsite power sources.

W: I’m almost thinking let’s just move to Tasmania and open a bar.

    • Whoopie Whoopie

I’d love to. Probably the only place SAFE. There or Greenland. Too cold there.

      • odylan

Whoopie, I think you can safely forget moving to Greenland – those early F-clouds they showed in the days of radiation maps often came over that way to the north of Europe. I know the winds have changed and so of course Greenland is safe for the time being – but the winds will change back to where they were when the North Pacific typhoon season is over in November. Tasmania appears to be the better bet.

    • ocifferdave

Tasmania rocks. Seems uber safe and protected from Earth Quakes, Tsunamis, Nukes, and the like.

    • Koz

Tasmania is incredible. I spent 3 weeks hiking and camping there in 2008. I’ve always thought it would be the cleanest, safest place to live in the world. They do fluoridate their water, and they have some logging issues, but the air is supposedly some of the cleanest on earth.

That is, until I recently discovered these comments from Leuren Moret and Chris Busby. I’d highly recommend checking this out:

(Uranium mining, particulate air flow, bombing, Tasmanian Devil facial cancer, Tasmanian diabetes rate)

I had always thought the Tasmanian Devil’s ‘contagious facial cancer’ as the ‘authorities’ ridiculously call it, was from the chemicals they use in the logging industry. This makes me pause for concern. We are planning to move to Australia sooner than later so now I have new concerns even about that.

      • ocifferdave

Thanks for the heads up. Makes me sad there is no place seemly left alone by bad chemicals. Well…there is the Amazon…

      • milk and cheese milk and cheese

The Amazon is being destroyed by loggers. There is no ‘out’. The Earth is a closed system and people are crazy all over it. Granted, there are some places that will be nicer to live in longer than others, but ultimately, there is no avoiding what is going to happen.

  • TheWorldIsBlind

what in the world is “hot shutdown” ?

    • Newton

“Hot shutdown has a specific meaning. That condition is when the reactoris scrammed, the generator is tripped but reactor coolant temperatureis maintained by decay heat and/or reactor coolant pump heat input.”

In other words, just like Fukushima Daiichi on March 11, 2011, just before the tsunami hit.

  • TheWorldIsBlind

P.S from CT … trying to avoid cancer. UGH!

  • Discordian

I speak here as a non-scientific person. But what the fuck is a “hot shutdown”? Is THAT scientific language from the “cutting edge” nuclear industry?!

Why do so many excellent comment-board jockeys at enenews seem to understand scientific concepts, nuclear facts and terminology, and basic communication much better than the entire nuclear industry?!

Just a thought as the world burns.

    • Whoopie Whoopie

Ask these experts. The Cheerleaders are all over this thread. haha but it’s really not funny.

      • An article linked from that HP thread is excellent:

        “OPINION: Nuclear power requires perfection”

Ordinary people are not nuclear experts. But they know some things that many experts prefer to forget. They know that even in the best-run enterprises, things go awry.

The contractor takes a kickback. The operator at the control panel falls asleep. The battery runs out sooner than expected. The scientist shades his findings because he has received a grant from the industry under inspection.

Nuclear power requires perfection. But human life is a scene of error and turmoil. The problem is not a broken valve or an inadequate flood wall or even the earthquake or tsunami.

It is the fundamental mismatch between fallible human beings and a universal power that is too great for us to control. That is what Fukushima teaches and that is what the world is learning.

      • SteveMT

Whoopie, BTW info thread found. I sent an email about what is happening here and our web address:

The UNPLUG Salem Campaign was formed in 1995, during the period when the two Salem New Jersey Nuclear Plants were shut down for repairs. The original aim of the Campaign was to convince PSE&G, the owner-operator of the two plants, to keep the two nuclear plants closed. The Campaign now focuses on getting the plants shut down as soon as possible, and also focuses in trying to stop the killing of billions of fish and marine life by the plants. The UNPLUG Salem Campaign also acts as a nuclear safety and public health watchdog organization. In addition, the Campaign promotes alternatives to electricity produced by nuclear power and dirty coal. Alternatives such as conservation, efficiency, solar, wind, wave, thermal, biomass and others.

    • TheWorldIsBlind

I agree with you fully bro, i’ve been lifting for a few years now though so i mean im pretty toned out. 5’9 150, solid tho straight chisled not afraid of any1. now that i dont smoke my energy level has just straight boosted. ill never be your size but ill damn sure bet theres a lot i can do that you cant. and your right, weed is a waste of life. it was put on the earth for that purpose.

      • ocifferdave

I watched Thor in theaters. That actor never had lifted weights before. After six months of eating right and lifting he was RIPPED. I was inspired and soon looked up info on how to eat right (6 small meals a day like brown rice, chicken/fish, brocolli/greens, protien shake with banana, oatmeal, etc) and how one DOESNT need a gym yet if they can’t max their squats, pushups, and sit ups. I’m still in the crunches and pushups from the knees stage while utilizing 5lb and 10lb wieghts for arms. Now I need to find a way to start doing pullups. I’m challenging myself to see how much I can do with out buying expensive equipment nor using a gym.

I better be healthy and in shape for the upcoming storm.

      • ocifferdave

Good idea. Beats thick broom handle lodged between two adjacent trees in the backyard. I took a before pick (yeah, I let my chubby tummy stick out, white paste tubey arms unflexed, etc) and look forward to taking an “after” pick once I have done everything I can on 5 and 10lb dumbells and using gravity for pushups, pullups, crunches, calf lifts, squats, sprints, etc. Fun! 🙂

If Weed helps you than do it. I have MS but am still ambulatory and can’t complain too much compared to other suffering. But you should really use anything that helps you with your cancer dx. Don’t quit if it gives you any relief. It is much safer than prescription drugs. A weed with a plethora of cures. IMHO

      • TheWorldIsBlind

well, i dont have cancer, im perfectly healthy, that i know of. but if all these god damn power plants keep blowing up none of us are safe. im pretty close to this NJ plant. Los Alamos is a cluste F*ck, Ft. Calhoun, well who knows whats going on there. Us americans really really need to start holding anti-nuclear rallys. We have to get rid of them ASAP. 2011 has been an eye opener. We have to organize something. Can anyone help me? im serious about this.

Vaporizer and if you don’t want to use weed than don’t but many individuals who suffer from cancer, MS find relief from this medicinal herb and I for one think they should be allowed access to whatever helps them deal with their infliction. But this is not what we are here to discuss. Peace.

    • “Hope” is not part of the equation if human beings want an even vaguely habitable planet to live on pretty damn shortly.

“Hope” is what is sold to us by the PTB, so that we do not collectively take action NOW.

“Hope and change” was the mantra that was slickly marketed with unprecedented effectiveness across all news mediums (TV, print, ‘net), which brought the current Puppet-in-Chief into the role of the primary USA “front man” for the global rulers.

“Hope” does not cut it for me, nor for anyone that actually wants TRUE CHANGE. What is actually required is not “hope” – it is ACTION.

I can’t believe there is another Nuclear Plant with problems.

Besides the on going Fukushima and on going Gulf Disaster here in the US

    We have:
    New Jersey nuclear reactor
    Fort Calhoun,
    Cooper Nuclear Station,
    Los Alamos Laboratory,
and an Air Force base, overseeing 150 Minuteman III missiles in underground launch silos over 8,500 square miles, is partially under water, are all in possible danger.

    WHAT NEXT????

    • milk and cheese milk and cheese

this means that the West Coast (Fukushima) the Southwest (Los Alamos) Midwest and South(Calhoun, Cooper) and the East Coast (Salem) are all ‘alight’ with reactor problems.
Pretty much covers the whole country, doesn’t it. Is there any where that was left out? Maybe that Savannah bomb will ‘inexplicably’ go off. Savannah River is one of the dicier reactors out there, too.
