CBS San Diego KFMB, April 1, 2013: The U.S. Government is sounding the alarm about the high numbers of sea lion strandings. [...] The National Marine Mammal Foundation says, this is a crisis of epic proportions and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association declared an unusual mortality event for sea lions on Thursday. [...]

LA Times, April 2, 2013: The federal designation comes after sickly sea lion pups have been found stranded on beaches from Santa Barbara to San Diego at rates exponentially higher than in years past. [...] [The Marine Mammal Care Center] have cared for pups with injuries and abscesses, some that had seizures [...]

Sharon Melin, a wildlife biologist with the National Marine Fisheries Service: “Usually, we know the problem. We knew what was coming. When we saw the effect [e.g. El Nino], we knew what it was caused by. [...] What’s different about this incident is we don’t have any of that.”

Don't worry about it, we spent our fuel and metals on plasma televisions, air conditioning and cars; not spaceships.

Did you ever notice that if you read the history of NASA backwards it becomes a very reasonable tale of a company who spent many years putting satellites in space, then building shuttles and finally a rocket that landed men on a different planet.

      Isn't that interesting?

I personally know, We Not They Finally, I won't live long enough to make it out into space. But that hasn't stopped me from wanting to see our children, and theirs, from doing so.

While most humans are becoming aware of the sorry state of affairs our species is finding itself in, they're unwilling to understand, it's no longer a matter of whether we go-forth into space but that we must. Otherwise, we'll fall prey to what the eugenicist have long planned: 'controlled' reduction of population.

Most everyone still thinks such murder will be restricted to the 'useless mouths'; to somebody else as it were. As things are going now, we're all slated for the death pit! Our only exit strategy is to demand a concrete plan to reforge the military-industrial-complex into an effort to build long-term living environments within space.

Keep in mind. There is no going back. Most everyone who frequents this site, now knows, Fukushima will not be repaired or neutralized. And had there never been a Chernobyl or Fukushima, the other assaults against our environment would've eventually brought us to where we are today. Good news is (yes…there is good news), all of the technical innovation that brought-about this sorry state of affairs, can be used – without threat to our planetary environment – within space.

The choice is with this generation of humanity: bemoan our failures or learn from them…

I've been really working to not overly generalize in my thinking lately. I get your frustration in the failing of Man, but I have to add that there are many good people on the planet who in simple terms, do not endorse the path we find ourselves collectively on. Earth continues to be a paradise, even with the scars of man on her. I am hoping the coming times will leave the earth somehow with the good people to continue our species and heal her.

The best thing about such surviving humans would be their understanding and clarity about what is important in living here. Such new thinking would be acceptable even if it is secured only by mans desire to avoid his own death, and even better if man did it because it was the right way and in appreciation and reverence of his remarkable home planet.

We, as a species, need to stop accepting other people's truths as our own, especially when they conflict with what we know to be true.

Until we can learn this simple lesson, I do not see much hope. I see us continuing to do the same thing over and over, expecting different results.

For example, I know it to be true that it is impossible to objectively justify fission technology within the biosphere of a planet, full-stop.

Yet this technology exists, and despite all of the disasters, those making the decisions continue to support, promote, and expand this technology.

Equally relevant to your point about thinking for ourselves is that we not become entrapped (as many are) in negative thinking! It is a syndrome that is used to lower expectations and only serves the agenda of those who want us on our knees…

the analogy, weeman, that humans are a cancer, is erroneous. This perception is based on the biological – replication – phenomena that's observed in all lifeforms. Where some human civilizations were able to build a harmonious relations with nature, modern societies are far-more dynamic in their objectives and subsequent impact. What we're witnessing within our own lifetimes is an ongoing evolution of consciousness that all advanced species must pass through. Far worse than the demise of any species is if nothing is gained during its existence. We are experiencing that learning process now. Hopefully, we'll value what we learn and apply it towards the survival of our 'home' world and future generations of those that follow…

thanks for the kind words, weeman. I'll avoid speculation to what may or may not be operating behind the scenes on this planet. What I can do is offer a logical explanation to why advanced cultures are keeping their distance. Other than 'anthropological' curiosity, any civilization that's mastered 'interstellar' travel has no need for technology from those who haven't gotten into space. Simply put, 'they' don't have an overbearing need to commune with less 'progressive' civilizations. However, any species that shows enough 'initiative' becomes a potential challenge and hence, worthy of interaction; as is being demonstrated by your good attitude.

So, while humans may self-destruct and drown in their own bile, they may also surprise themselves (and 'others'), by becoming more responsible 'citizens'. It's a matter of whether they're ready to accept the growing responsibility and concomitant rewards for having done so. I already know…they can…

The real problem, in my opinion, is that in general we consider our modern societies to be civilized, even highly civilized. Unfortunately, this assesment is false, and is preventing us from learning the necessary lessons.

For example, a highly civilized culture, on a planet of abundance, would not allow some to have more than needed, while others went without the basics. Similarly, a highly civilized culture would not permit the dissemination of poisoned food. I could go on and on.

We would be much better off if we came to terms with the idea that we're a fairly primitive culture, barely out of kindergarten.

There is nothing that so thoroughly blocks further learning than the idea that you already have all of the answers…

U.S. imports of agricultural products from Japan totaled $586 million in 2011. Leading categories include: snack foods (including chocolate) ($54 million), wine and beer ($53 million), and processed fruit and vegetables ($36 million).

U.S. imports of private commercial services* (i.e., excluding military and government) were $24.8 billion in 2011 (preliminary data) up 5% ($1.3 billion) from 2010, and up 51% from the 2000 level. The royalties and license fees, the other private services (business, professional, and technical services), and the other transportation (freight services) categories accounted for most of U.S. services imports from Japan.

If we review the NRC documents from the beginning of the Fukushima disaster, and the e-mails from British intelligence where there is discussion of a global effort to reduce panic and control the flow of news, it becomes readily apparent there is a global effort to keep the truth from being known by the common man.

I was once a seasonal employee and went to vast natural areas for about half the year. There was no television and it was necessary to drive 10 miles to use a cell phone. There were no lines available, so no telephones.

When I returned home for the winter, I was astounded to watch television even for a little while. It was deeply disturbing how much the populace was being degraded and I realized there was no truth to the "news."

I try sometimes to watch the evening news (and nothing else) but usually have to turn it off after the first couple of minutes I'm so angry at the lies.

I thought I would be better able to find out why relatives didn't believe half I said. It was because they watched television and so I tried to point out the inconsistencies to them. However, they would not even agree to read, for example, the President's Executive Orders–even if I were to email the orders to them. So it became an exercise in futility. Sadly, I have given up attempting to change them.

Some have forgotten that we are all connected here; as we treat the earth the earth will respond in kind. Corporatist money worshipers have made grievous errors in their thinking, and we all will suffer the consequences. Peace.

      We lived our lives
      In our paradise
As Gods we shaped the world around
      No borderlines
      We stayed behind
      Though balance is something fragile

While we thought we were gaining
      We turned back the time
      It still slipped away
      Our time has run out
      Our future has died
      There's no more escape

      [Chorus:]
      Now the day has come
      We are forsaken
      There's no time any more
      Life will pass us by
      We are forsaken
We're the last of our kind

      The sacrifice
      Was much to high
Our greed just made us all go blind
We try to hide what we fear inside
Today is the end of tomorrow

      As the sea started rising
      The land that we conquered
      Just washed away
      Although we all have tried
      To turn back the time
      It was all in vain

      Now the day has come
      We are forsaken
      There's no time any more
      Life will pass us by
      We are forsaken
      Only ruins stay behind

We have allowed ourselves to go down the path of a corporate takeover of media and our government. For proof look at the "Monsato protection act," which ensures that the corporation cannot be sued or held liable for any environmental or health effects of genetically modified foods. This type of thing is clearly NOT in the public interest and it has metastasized throughout industry and the revolving door of government and lobbyists. Money and power are the two reasons that we no longer have a government that follows the will of the people. Dangerous words, but I defy anyone to refute them with reasonable arguments.

Hi HoTaters & the ENE gang; I'm trying to refrain from allowing my emotions get away from me today and hopefully for the remainder of this very busy week that holds MANY hours of time beginning tomorrow morning at the Cancer Care wing per my wife's cancer & neurology follow-up treatments and I've been really sick myself this past week especially and she needs me to be as close to 100% as possible to deal with the side-effects I KNOW are gonna be present & always takes so much outta me as well. Of all of the horrible news presently preying on my mind and soul that evokes responses from me, it's that dreaded word that I KNOW took years from my own life the 1st time and every instance I've heard it spoken or typed since that brought me to tearfully tap away at my keyboard(again)…"metastasized" is perhaps the worst thing one EVER wants to hear at a meeting with an Oncology specialist and I'm dreading the results of recent tests ordered as a result of a large increase in her seizure activity that led to several week-long inpatient hospital stays over the last 2 months(?)!! The Fukushima AIDS link from Bobby1's blog best describes in detail what my beloved wife's symptoms of her sufferings are and what my caregiver duties consist of with more BAD days than good ones as I'm fighting off something that's been going on inside my own body that I refuse medical treatment for since I've sworn to not be a burden to others & don't want to know right now(?)!!*cont'd>>

The world TPTB & the nuke-pukes created has already been ruined and if I lose her I won't want to be a part of it!! The only chance we have, that the WORLD & ALL THE LIVING THINGS IN IT HAVE would be if the good people likle the majority of ALL OF YOU ENEWSER's here for the "right " reasons were to rise up and violently overthrow the vile PTB from office and create a new way that would preclude their kind from EVER holding the power of life & death from their control again!! Since that seems a "lost cause" then so am I and don't care to be a party to THEIR vision of their future or doctrine of self-destruction and corporate enslavement!! It just so happens that there is an epidemic of cataracts right now. I am scheduled for that surgery very soon. There is Strontium 90 in the rainwater in this area which means that eventually, we consume it unless we drink distilled water.

But the "m" word doesn't get me worked up or anything except that I should be able to spell it by now and the only angst is waiting to get confirmation that it has occurred and where it's spread to(?)! It just doesn't make sense to me that she would still be having a reaction to the radiation treatments or even the 3-course chemo cocktail regimen she finished before they did the radical mastectomy last July and her radiation treatments that ended the day before last Thanksgiving??!! She still gets monthly Herceptin treatments via her portacatheter IV infusions and Zolodex injections to stop her menstrual cycles and the cancer-feeding hormone production and yet her Lymphodema and the eye-twitching & spasms on her left side that accompany the seizures and cause her to lose control of her bladder & bowels has us baffled as it "supposedly" does to her Head Oncologist who finally stopped fighting with me about the need for even more CTscans that I've come to HATE as much as the GE/Toshiba brand logo on the machine they use too damned much IMO & the Dr. finally concluded she "didn't>>>

I truly hope the parties responsible or should I say "most likely responsible" for the cancer that was supposedly "gone" last year from her breast and the remaining lymph nodes in the area of the 7 that were removed with her left breast and wish they knew why the same side of her body is affected still by the paralysis, tremoprs, eye-socket pain and twitching, hypersensitivity to light, and the migraines that leave her unable to speak properly or walk sometimes and she screams holding the left side of head pulling her hair screaming about the "buzzing" sensastion & sound in her head mostly on that same left side??!! I'm having a really hard time trusting them even though we're told they saved her life at the time of completion of the final radiation treatment & yet I have to wonder WHY is she still getting worse and what aren't they telling us?!! The head radiation treatment technician suddenly quit her job after 27 years just after my wife got the worst session of all that left her skin looking like a hot dog that was left on the grill too long and we weren't the only ones who thought the treatments received that day were much stronger and with noticeable "burns" & radiation sickness than the other 38 times she'd gone?!! We are cooking greens with yams and/or winter squash for our little dog. I have found this combo is like baby food. It's easily digested, and it's loaded with vitamins and minerals. Lightly cook the greens (until barely cooked), then put with liquid into the blender, when it's cool enough to blend. Add about equal parts yams/squash, and it becomes like a slightly sweet, green soup. It's very nourishing and it's easy to make. It might help your wife to sustain her strength. I'm so sorry she's dealing with the burns. I thought I had inflammatory breast cancer last month. It turned out I didn't, but it gave me quite a scare. The biopsy was very unpleasant, and now I have this metal thing in my chest that feels like a little BB, only it feels sharp on the end. A foreign object. Am debating whether or not to ask the surgeon/radiologist to remove it after a year or so, if I still have no breast cancer. I hate having foreign objects in my body.

So they haven't got a clue but they call themselves scientists….

I think what is so interesting about this is the sea lions are very visible and they are cute…so it draws our attention to them. How many events are happening that we can't see that is a result of this invisible agent…radiation. There is really no way to detect radiation unless you have a Geiger counter.
You can see it's results but those events could be attributed to other things…so there is nothing defining about radiation…except what we see….
we see the yellow rain….we see the black powder…we see the dying sea lions….one thing all of these events have in common…they all remain a mystery!

As often as we accuse TEPCO and the Japanese Government of hiding the truth look at the contrast between this story from the US shore and another article posted under the Japan topic.

          http://enenews.com/upi-shellfish-gone-near-damaged-nuke-plant-japan-researcher-extinction-likely-caused-by-fukushima-nuclear-crisis

"Thais clavigera entirely disappeared from a 30-km long area, adding the extinct was probably caused by the nuclear crisis. The link between the disappearance and the catastrophic tsunami was excluded as the shell was also found in other areas that affected by the disaster, according to the team."

          and

"Lead researcher Toshihiro Horiguchi said the disappearance of Thais clavigera was likely a result of radiation from the damaged plant."

Are the US officials going to keep toeing the line while the Japanese let these kinds of gems slip through? The situation threatens so many lives and still our politicians think that denial is in the best interest. Question is, best interest of who? I know many of the people who post on ENE have answered this question, possibly not completely, but some great paper trails exist. We have found some but there must be so much more going on behind the scenes to warrant this response.

At the beginning of the disaster I spoke to the physics faculty at my campus to determine whether they could test for radiation contamination. My campus does not have the equipment.

So, the scintillators (and whatever else) required for resting for radioisotopes such as cesium in tissue aren't easily accessible, unfortunately…

It is true however that most states do their own testing. I found that my state – AZ – has a state gov lab that tests milk for radioiodine. They measured 50 picocuries per liter in the spring of 2011, or so they told me.

Maybe the citizens of CA need to start shouting that state labs should test.

Perhaps the state government will be more forthcoming than the feds… after all, Sacramento had high readings according to the EPA radnet so state legislators will be eating contaminated food, just like the sea lions no doubt did

        http://majiasblog.blogspot.com/2013/02/stranded-sea-lions-in-southern.html

"The open net-cage salmon feedlot industry is a direct attempt by the governments of British Columbia and Canada to rid the BC coast of wild salmon. Why? To clear the way for offshore oil drilling and to deprive the indigenous people of BC their prime cultural food source and speed up the federal government's assimilation policy.

If you're wondering how many seals, sea lions and Steller Seals the feedlot industry has killed since 2010 (or, at least how many they're reported as having killed) see this government report (hint: the number is 138 in the first quarter of 2011):

Domoic acid from toxic algae was first isolated from Japanese waters several years ago. This causes seizures, confusion, illness and death. It seems to grow more in warm water, or with "nutrient" runoff from land. Who knows, maybe it thrives on radiation? Toxic algae is on the increase and follows human activity. But whatever, it could be a cause. Sea foam may be a telltale sign. Has there been more sea foam in California lately? Algae that is both toxic and radioactive could add a new level of danger, yet get passed off as the old red tide. An interesting NASA site with IR maps of chlorophyll, aerosols and other stuff; http://gdata1.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/daac-bin/G3/gui.cgi?instance_id=aerosol_monthly

No "seafood safety issues"? I don't think that the mass die-off of sardines (food supply for the sea lions)would agree They would say that the sea was not safe for THEM.
