  • Time Is Short Time Is Short

    The river Styx.

  • patb2009

that looks like a drainage cut to take water from buildings and parking lots, so it's just occasionally active but the river looks like permanent navigable waterway.

I wonder if anyone has been able to measure the radiation in the fish and eels in that river.

Shouldn't Jap Gov SPREAD the radioactive water over Japan as they do with the radioactive debris and sludge ?
Why are they Dumping it into international waters ?? Disrespect ?

You know that feeling you get when watching a serious drama movie, one where innocent people are suffering, that feeling like your heart has fallen into the pit of your stomach and you want to fall to your knees and cry….That's the feeling I get every time I read another one of these articles. But unlike a movie, it doesn't end when I press stop, this drama keeps going on and on, getting worse every day that passes.

I've sent letters to my government representatives and gotten form letters in reply. I read CRAP in the daily news about B.S. government scandals, the latest corporation that Apple is suing, celebrity gossip and other gosa that media lap-up like sweetened cream. Yet almost no one is doing mainstream reporting on something that will end up killing millions of people and devastate much of the ecosystem in the northern hemisphere.

It's like someone is putting a gun up to the heads of children on Wall Street and everyone just walks by as they pull the trigger. They're only concern is that they don't get any of the "mess" on their Allen Edmunds. Even people in Tokyo blindly ignore the death creeping over the mountain. When half of the population starts dying from pneumonia, influenza, pulmonary edema, and eventually cancer are they going to continue to pretend nothing is wrong? When mothers take their children to the clinics suffering from ARS how can they pretend that nothing is happening?

  • It's dispersing and diluting into the ocean at some point… right?

IMO – The radioactive contamination will be spreading and accumulating via transport vectors we have never even thought of. That's more the truth.

Until the melted cores, burning debris and spent fuel pools are 'somehow' magically contained and emissions stopped, then decontamination is a futile dream for all of us.

The corium has melted well below the water table below the reactors, therefor the water flowing around and past the Fuku 1 NPP will be contaminated, regardless if it is heading out to sea or inland. The surrounding countryside is highly contaminated with the reactors and SFP's spewing out more radioactive contamination daily.

The bio-magnification of the radioactive contamination will also cause it to spread as insects and wildlife migrate through the area. The jet-stream carries the contamination through the air and the ocean currents through the water spreading the poison east-ward.

We've already seen the contamination showing up on detectors across the US and Canada, Hawaii and by next year or so it will be showing up in Australia, New Guinea and Indonesia on the currents.
The Great Pacific garbage dump between Hawaii and the Bearing Sea will be radioactive it's going to start glowing on infrared spectrum.

At this point there is nothing we CAN do for the radiation that has gotten into the ecosystem, only try and stop the expulsion of more. Unfortunately NO ONE seems to be going anything about it. Even TEPCO seems to be acting like this is business as usual, "Lets shovel another two dozen bodies into the rad-fire to run around soaking up that gamma-goodness. Look at all the good we're doing the Japanese public".

430 000 Bq/kg in the river…and meanwhile, they are worried what to do with 300 000 tons of stored water that is at 1000 bq/kg (from recent ENEnews headlines). Yes, Tepco says that 0.601 EXA-bequerels of Noble gasses were released, and meanwhile, estimates of potential deaths have skyrocketed from 125 to 1000. Even though last year a study found some 18000 extra deaths in california.

What am I getting at? There are HOW MANY people working in how many organizations around the world??…there are how many people that could sum up the known aspects of the situation, but apparently there is not ONE who will do it. ( A noble effort by A Green Road.)Instead an endless trickle of contradictory and obfuscating bits. There is not one webpage I can point my associates to that puts perspective and a realistic picture of this event. I point them to ENEnews, they read a few headlines, and believe me, it does nothing for my Henny Penny status. THIS is the best we can do with the world wide web and 7 billion humans? Surely it must be mass insanity without exception. So what web page tells us what has happened, how bad is it (1/10 or 10x Chernobyl?? 1x or 100x Hiroshima?). Wikipedia?; 2 deaths (none from radiation) and 573 stress related deaths and one 102 year old suicide.

I told my old friend just yesterday; you know we have three china syndromes going on as we speak? "what are you talking about..oh you mean that Japan thing a couple years ago" then a subject change

As concerning as this ongoing nuclear pollution in Japan is, and the potential for world wide effects, I'm more concerned about all those "safe plants" operating so efficiently without any long term waste management plan. check out this article.

The good news is that people are beginning to notice – although it is somewhat late in the process. Cleanup is clearly being shown to be a pipe dream… Our hope is not for some magic cures to nuclear waste – but in legislation and codes, which build and over-build to the extant that we limit future events. This is a sobering article, he is preaching to the choir on this site, but still worth a read.

we need a short concise headline PERMANENTLY showing on ENEnews and everywhere. Here are a few for starters (they need confirmed sources as a footnote of course)

a rough estimate is that Fukushima is spewing the equivalent of 112 Hiroshima-type nuclear bombs worth of radiation every hour, of every day.

That’s 981,120 atomic bombs a year going off worth of radiation into our biosphere.

“Fukushima Equals 3,000 Billion Lethal Doses"

Release of radiation from the stricken reactors has reached 10,000 teraBequerels (10,000 trillion Bequerels) per hour, measured for radioactive Iodine-131 …Greenpeace Germany

Chernobyl radiation has killed a million and counting and Fukushima will do the same

    • AGreenRoad AGreenRoad

If Chernobyl killed one million in one generation and it released ONE reactors contents….

Then how many will FUkushima kill in one generations after it released 3-6 reactor and spent fuel pool contents?

It was not just one reactor that melted down, it was 3… or more.
It was not just one spent fuel pool that melted, burned and or exploded; it was 3 OR MORE…

Just using common sense, FUKU was at least 10 times WORSE than Chernobyl in total radiation released..

But then again, we have not talked about MOX fuel, plutonium, and BUCKY BALLS with nano particles of demon radiation. We also have not talked about the three coriums underground and what they will do long term…

FUKU still has the potential of wiping out all life on the planet…

    Ode to the homeless;

It would take $7 billion to move all of the nation's spent fuel to dry storage. Because we have no place to put it, By 2020, it is estimated that $11 billion in public money will have been transferred into the pockets of private nuclear companies just to store the radioactive waste. Lawyers will have made 3 billion to arbitrate those funds. By the end of the century, the NRC expects to face a mountain of waste weighing 270,000 metric tons and they dont know what to do with it. This was one of our original arguments; What will you do with the radioactive waste? Answer; "oh you simple fools who ask these questions! We will simply figure it out when the time comes."

permanent headline; 270,000 tons of radioactive waste, enough to destroy the world, and we dont know what to do with it.

The corporate sociopathic agenda is to maximize short term profits and bonuses for the 1%, which means getting money from the taxpayers via corporate welfare and tax breaks of course… WHo cares if they are making record profits… they deserve these entitlements anyway.

Meanwhile, the other side of the strategy is to reduce losses by transferring risk to the taxpayers. The Superfund Cleanup costs used to be paid for by the corporations making the messes, but no longer. Now it is taxpayers paying through the nose.

When corporations leave town, and steal the pension funds, guess who pays? Taxpayers.

When private nuclear corporations make huge messes that last for tens of thousands of years, guess who pays? Not them… again taxpayers pay to clean up the mess or guard the waste, or try to clean up the spills, etc.

Taxpayers are being raped, over and over again, not by government, but by the huge global corporations that run governments and tell politicians what to do.
