A book title I just ran across:
Note: dystopian means the opposite of utopian:
A dystopia (from Ancient Greek: δυσ-, “bad, ill”, and Ancient Greek: τόπος, “place, landscape”; alternatively cacotopia,[1] or anti-utopia) is the idea of a society in a repressive and controlled state, often under the guise of being utopian, as characterized in books like Brave New World and Nineteen Eighty-Four. Dystopian societies feature different kinds of repressive social control systems, various forms of active and passive coercion. Ideas and works about dystopian societies often explore the concept of humans abusing technology and humans individually and collectively coping, or not being able to properly cope with technology that has progressed far more rapidly than humanity has been able to evolve. Dystopian societies are often imagined as police states, with unlimited power over the citizens.
The Sheep Look Up

The Sheep Look Up is a science fiction novel by British author John Brunner, first published in 1972. The novel’s setting is decidedly dystopian, the book dealing with the deterioration of the environment in the United States. It was nominated for the Nebula Award for Best Novel in 1972.
The title of the novel is a quotation from the poem Lycidas by John Milton:
The hungry sheep look up, and are not fed,
But swoln with wind and the rank mist they draw,
Rot inwardly, and foul contagion spread …

An enduring classic, this book offers a dramatic and prophetic look at the potential consequences of the escalating destruction of Earth. In this nightmare society, air pollution is so bad that gas masks are commonplace. Infant mortality is up, and everyone seems to suffer from some form of ailment. The water is polluted, and only the poor drink from the tap. The government is ineffectual, and corporate interests scramble to make a profit from water purifiers, gas masks, and organic foods. Environmentalist Austin Train is on the run. The Trainites, environmental activists and sometime terrorists, want him to lead their movement.

I guess you have to be young and foolish, with emphasis on the latter – even before Fukushima.

Here is my favorite Cal professor assuring us that Cesium in whales is no big deal! I assume she is still working to get Fukushima’s rating lowered from a “7″ as she promised weeks ago.

Something has broken south of the Missouri River Nebraska City gauge, dropping the flood level .5 feet in 2-3 hours.
If it is a levee break I hope it isn’t too far downstream toward Brownville and headed for the sandbagged COOPER nuclear reactor.
No news, but KETV.c or KMTV.c should pick up any breach.

Here it is: KETV levee break news alert:

Report Comment
Nebraska City flood gauge dropped .12 feet in 30 minutes from 7:30 am cdt to the 8:00 am reading, ie, at 5.76 feet per day rate.
I don’t know, but that could be a major levee break in Fremont County south of Nebraska City and north of Brownville-COOPER nuclear.

Percival is located north of Nebraska City, 27 miles north of Brownville.

…for whatever that means…any ideas? does it mean water levelling out – is that good or bad for Cooper???
Report Comment
Yes, but look at the red thumbtack on the river south of Nebraska City, marked just above and to the left:

Hmmm. Union gauge also has this sharp drop…the river there is flowing into missouri, right?

Breach in S.W. Iowa levee

This is north of Nebrasks City on the Iowa side of the river.

Could be good or bad for COOPER for what I know, but if the breach was on the Nebraska-west side of the Missouri, and just north of COOPER, it might not be all good.
Report Comment
True, and so it seems, if you check the union gauge…or am i far off??
TY for posting anyway

If a levee breaks south of Nebraska City, nearby upstream levels will also decline, as has Union, and now, maybe Plattsmouth at the next readings at 7:15 or 7:30 am cdt:

Nebraska City level down .05 feet from 800 am to 815 am, daily rate of minus 4.8 feet. This rate won’t continue, but maybe someone knows what it means.

Now it looks like another levee may have failed this time near Brownsville with the gauge dropping .4 feet in 2-3 hours: again I’ll watch KETV.c and KMTV.c for news alerts like the one I reported at 9:13 am.

No news, but Brownsville gauge still dropping at 2.88 feet per day through the 4:00 pm cdt reading:

Brownville gauge at 5:30 pm cdt still dropping more slowly at 1 foot per day, but no news.
Maybe some erroneous gauge readings: I’ll keep watching.

Thanks dharmasyd – good find.
This bit worries me:
Arends’ organization also worried that the fire could stir up nuclear-contaminated soil on lab property where experiments were conducted years ago. Burrowing animals have brought that contamination to the surface, she said.
Is there a connection between this, and the mention of “strange” fire behaviour observed by [the fire chief?] yesterday? He observed already-burned areas & objects – burning, which is strange (according to him, and he should know).
There is also a 1993 report that shows thyroid cancer rates at 4 times the normal for the Los Alamos area – which I posted recently [and below] – proving that something is in the soil.

Massive Earthquake Expected – Pacific NW
http://www.shasta.com/tempest/quake.html
I was trying to see if the increased EQ (earthquake) activity in Alaska might be a precursor to a large quake in the Pacific NW area of Canada-U.S., but came across this instead.
Talks of an ongoing “silent tremor” (picked up in 2007) and USGS possibly hiding data (echos of NRC, etc) and the likelihood of of a huge 9.0 M earthquake in this area (Pacific NW, where I am).
A massive earthquake may, or may not, strike the Pacific Northwest – southern British Columbia region in the time period being predicted, but it is going to happen. It is not a matter of IF it is going to happen, it is only a matter of WHEN it is going to happen. With geological and climate instabilities increasing around the globe at a heightened pace, the event is likely to happen sooner rather than later.
The climate instabilities risk was added, because the melting glaciers and ice caps are adding water to the oceans, which is in turn is adding an increased weight load, and this is a situation that is further weakening already weakened tectonic plates. This in turn causes increased geological instabilities around the world. It is one natural system impacting another natural system, and one of the reasons global climate changes are such a danger.
The Pacific Northwest – southern British Columbia Cascadia region continues to be an area at risk from a GREAT earthquake. An earthquake that will in turn very likely cause a catastrophic tsunami, and very possibly set off a chain of volcanic eruptions on a scale not seen in modern recorded history.

Fukushima, Ft Calhoun, Los Alamos, and now some nuke shut down by jellyfish – all started by NATURAL disasters happening in the blink of an eye this year.
WTF? This is making even me reach for my old tinfoil hat.
So many natural disasters this year even aside from those starting nuclear problems.
