Akshually, me an’ ma girl did make cup cakes; we raised a tenner for Greenpeace, she also painted a banner of the Rainbow Warrior.
She’s delighted, they sent her a thank you note and now she’s taken it to her school to set up an eco-awareness council.
She is anti-nuclear as well, bless her.

FUKUSHIMA–Distrust is hampering plans on all levels in the struggle to dispose of the mountains of radioactive soil piling up through decontamination efforts in Fukushima Prefecture.
Residents don’t trust local authorities, and local officials are wary of the central government’s plans, feeling they could become stuck with the contaminated soil in the long term if they accept the hazardous waste on a “temporary” basis.

Contamination of Fukushima forests being studied

FUKUSHIMA — The Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture, is investigating how badly the wooded areas of Fukushima Prefecture have been contaminated with radioactive fallout.
The government has been concentrating on how to decontaminate residential areas, but forests cover 70 percent of the prefecture and nothing has been done to remove fallout from the forests

Local governments in Fukushima Prefecture are experimenting with efforts to remove radioactive material spread from the crippled nuclear power plant following a request by the national government.
In August, the national government asked that local governments handle decontamination work in areas with under 20 millisieverts of radiation per year.
