Title: Public Briefing 2/6/13 – Part 9
Source: Assumption Parish Police Jury
Date Published: Feb. 7, 2013
Will Pettitt, general manger of Itasca, a worldwide firm specializing in rock mechanics:
This is our initial estimate of the maximum extent of that disturbed zone.
At the moment we’re putting in all our effort to try and understand the exact structure of this. […]
As you can see, it flows out from the cavern 3 and up to the surface around the sinkhole.
And what I think we’re seeing now is we’re actually starting to see fractures occurring in this disturbed zone at the surface.

Assumption Parish sinkhole gets bigger Tuesday
The 8.6-acre sinkhole in Assumption Parish got a little larger on Tuesday.
Parish officials reported another slough in the sinkhole Tuesday morning, estimating that the sinkhole swallowed a 5,000-square-foot section on its southwest side.
Officials estimated that the section was approximately 50 feet by 100 feet in size, adding that it will not affect traffic on La. 70 because the slough occurred on the opposite side of the sinkhole from the highway.

Weren't they all (the parade of experts) toeing the line that the seismic / geological activity was stabilizing? That was the understanding I had after watching the public meeting.
This evidence does not support the claim that the collapse zone is stabilizing.
Report Comment
No. The experts were saying they did not expect to see it go over 1400 ft., but reading the headline should give some kind of clue, 16 Penny. Pettit stated that after cavern filled and the 'disturbed rock zones' settled, the we would see more equilibrium.
That is not stabilized, but a form of balance. There is much more to come…
Even they admit, they are not sure how the process works, just going off of the data collected so far.
Personally, I expect many more 'belches', more land lost unti the voids within are filled. That is just nature.

Haven't been on consistently in a while, however, here is what I see: Fractures from cavern to cavern. Also, Big Hum, Marg, etc are all coming up and mixing naturally.. can they tell that in a fingerprint? or have they? It's all sinking (Substenence). I presume that holding onto their money for as long as possible is still the way to go these days, instead of allowing these people to get on with their lives. It's more than likely an internal fight between insurance companies and the companies alike, because they would much prefer to get these people out, where no one is talking about this than to have people talking. It has nothing at all to do with them thinking they can save any of the homes in that area, because in the very least, they will suffer tremendous loss of value, even if by some miracle the place was deemed safe.

Some of the people effected are still coming to grips with the reality that the place they called home has been changed forever. Once the community unites and demands a buyout, I think they will be heard. Right now it seems like they are pulling in all directions. I hope the best for them.

Hey "Ibuiltthis". Nice to see you around… Don't know that about the caverns yet, but more damage to the subdivision is a given.
Report Comment
Hey Freedom…. wow, the last thing they need is more damage to the subdivision. It must be hard to be a resident and go through this, however, at this point, it's not going to get better, it's only going to get worse…. time to fasten the seat belts…

As I explained on another thread. Right now, the aquifer methane is swelling the ground underneath the subdivision and is causing the cracking and damages so far.
Once it is pumped down and the land subsides, then even more damages will be suffered.
As for Well Pad #3, the brand spanking new pad is now showing cracks again, and is the result of subsidence, as evidenced by the latest land loss on thw southwest side, closest to the orphaned Hooker #1 Oil Well, and where the leaking water well is located.
This is where LDNR wants a 1000 ft. well drilled for a geophone array. I hope they re-think this location.

"this disturbed zone"..disturbed zones are natural around salt domes due to fetch and fracturing.. sometimes involving the circumference of the dome.
Here is a map of the top of the top.
To say there is no involvement of hwy 70 is deceptive.

This is a 3D of the sinkhole looking north..
The involvement is not as severe..but the area is larger.

"Please take note of the name Martin S. Triche, whose property has Shell Oil B-1 Well. This begs the question, “Is this the same Martin S. Triche that is a Lawyer, Land Owner, and is also the President of the Assumption Parish Police Jury”?"

You are welcome, Rose, but it's actually updated now.
Como-Martin Triche No. 1
Shell Oil Company-Martin Triche No. B1
Shell-Triche No. 1
Gulf South Operators- H. Triche
Shallow- Gulf South Operators- Mrs. H. Triche No. 2
Vintage (AMAX) Triche Est. Well No.’s 1, 2 & 3
(Gulf South Operators, Lessee)
I want this understood. I do not know Triche, or any of his family, and have nothing against him, but conflicts of interests is a valid line of inquiry, especially when it comes to ANY Public Official. No one is gunning for anybody and no accusations have been made.
Just the facts.

I am not a local..FREEDOMROX. I post this in response to a question posed by someone in their community.
I do wonder if it will/has affected the data coming from the Assumption Parish Police Jury.

That was not directed at you Rose. I am not a local either, and just wanted to clarify that I have no agenda. Just the facts and the questions.
Remember Jack Webb from Dragnet? That's me. "Just the facts Ma'am."
