Title: Fukushima – Total Cost
Uploaded by: wepollock
Date: Dec 21, 2011
Description: Arnie Gundersen of Fairwinds Associates (a leading nuclear expert) and Warren Pollock ( http://www.wepollock.com ) redefine the Fukushima nuclear incidents (meltdowns and explosions) in terms of human and total cost. [...]
Transcript Summary
At 16:55 in
- After Japan, the next hottest area is the Cascades, the Pacific Cascades
- A lot of the radiation came across the Pacific and hit the mountains, hit the Rockies, and deposited on the west side of the Rockies
- We’ve seen readings in the Portland areas of about 100 [becquerels/m²] disintegrations per second in a square meter of cesium 134 and 137
At 17:55 in
- We’ll see over time a statistically meaningful increase in cancer on the west coast but I don’t think we’ll be able to compare by any means to what they got in Japan

Outnow worth a post here imo:
“I have evaluated the cost of personal injuries for the past thirty-five years as a professional. I deal with forensic economists and actuarial specialists, as well as vocational rehabilitation experts. The human costs of a million cancers would be a million to five million each. If you do the math, the actual cost is staggering beyond any conprehension”

Does anyone know how radiation levels on Hawaii compare to the Cascades? There used to a monitor on Kauai that showed a big spike in readings and then disappeared. Kauai gets a lot of rain and is, of course, much closer to Japan than Portland is.

Here you will see the map of Strontium 90 deposition in soil from 1967 (when it was last officially measured? When the govts still disclosed valid information?)
This after 20 years of circling in our atmosphere, fractionating, then coming into the soil from rainout fallout.
It’s a good indicator of how certain latitudes s,uffer from greater concentrations due to jet stream activity…forty years later, maybe half or more undecayed (factor in underground nuke test and power plant releases which continue to the present adding to these bq per kg of soil…
Now, add both cesiums to that same pattern and you’ve got alot of agricultural soil ready to produce a kickin’ 50 bq/kg foods to create immediate vital organ: the ones that would uptake lots of potassium and/or calcium…I’m tHinking potatoes, wheat, beef, milk products, pork, broccoli, sunflower seeds, the list goes on…
BE CAREFUL FRIENDS and source your food accordingly when you can and otherwise leave it up to the Good Lord.
May All The Angels Bless You And Keep You Through This Holiday Season!

A video with Uncle Arnie is like a warm hug!
His tone is so even and rational. Good for the nerves.
Having said that his videos require, for me anyway, several viewings to fully embrace the full wieght of his words.
But I got to go to the store right now. X-mas cookies to bake!
Whoopie, I love your new avatar!
Agreed
impossible?

is it wrong to want to know *where* in the Cascade mountain range they took their sample(s)? and how many samples they took along that 1,000 or so miles of mountain range? and the exact readings?
i love arnie, really so grateful to him, a lone voice of explanation. many, many, many thanks, but why doesn’t he say where and exact readings?
also, “the Cascades” are a mountain range. Portland is in a valley west of the Cascades, between the them and the low coastal mountain range. do you think he means Seattle/Olympia/Portland/Eugene when he says “Cascades”? I wondered that when he referred to the Cascades before, since so much of the western, rainout side of the Cascades is forest: private/state/federal timber land. Not v many people really living there for him to be warning…
Unless he means the fertile, highly populated valleys to the West of the Cascades. but people usually say “the Pacific NW” to refer to those areas. what you do guys think?
Report Comment
I think he was being very general and meaning the whole Pac NW.
Or, if you are a separatist, “Cascadia”.
The “rainout” area is as you say.
Contamination in the air, falling on the watershed,in the waters, on the trees & soil & rocks & people, bio-accumulating, running off…

Fukushima hospitals in financial strife / Services being cut as medical facilities’ losses top 12 billion yen due to nuclear crisis: http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/dy/national/T111229004020.htm
(Is this being done on purpose to LIMIT the Radioactive Health Problems?)
snip
The hospital received compensation from TEPCO in November, but the amount was only 66 percent of its request because the payment did not cover retirement bonuses and costs of medicines, among other expenses.
“We don’t know how long we’ll be able to continue operating under the current circumstances,” a hospital administrative official said.
Kazuhira Maehara, head of the prefecture’s hospital association, shares the same sense of urgency.
“Many of the hospitals had to limit the number of inpatients they accept due to the declining number of medical staff,” he said. “Compensation payments didn’t start until nine months after the accident. Unless something is done, it will be a long time before hospitals [in the prefecture] can resume operation.”
I THINK THIS IS TO FURTHER KEEP MEDICAL ISSUES ABOUT FUKUSHIMA AWAY FROM THE MSM…
The Japanese Medical professionals now know they have to play ball with the Gov’t…
