McClatchy, Mar 13, 2015 (emphasis added): With millions of starfish dying all along the West Coast [and] disintegrating into mush [Congressman Denny Heck wants NOAA] to declare “sea star wasting syndrome” an emergency before the starfish becomes extinct.

National Geographic, Jan 23, 2015: [It's killed] tens of millions of sea stars.

Cornell Prof. Drew Harvell, sea star researcher, Mar 13, 2015: “There has never been an outbreak of disease in natural populations of animals that I know that’s been this large.”

Newport Beach official Michelle Clemente: “All of our area’s sea stars have disintegrated

Russian gov’t news service (Sputnik), Mar 12, 2015: Many researchers initially believed radiation from the Fukushima nuclear disaster could be at the heart of the disease… Dr. Peter Raimondi of the University of California at Santa Cruz [believed] the power plant contaminated the water, propagating the disease which the simple immune system of the starfish would not be able to fight off… “One of the byproducts is obviously nuclear radiation discharge…” he added. Today, scientists are less convinced that Fukushima is to blame, citing the fact that [1] awareness of the disease predates the disaster, [2] the die-offs are observable on both US coasts, and [3] other marine life doesn’t appear to be affected.

[1] Is it a fact this disease predates the 2011 arrival of the Fukushima plume on the West Coast?

  • Melissa Miner, researcher who works for Dr. Raimondi (at 18:30): “The Olympic coast was the first place, in June 2013, where we saw the disease.”
  • Miner (at 4:45): “This is very different from prior events…It’s not associated w/ warm water … Populations really [got] hit hard over the winter, this has never happened… The other big difference… is the geographic extent is much, much larger than we’ve ever seen.”

[2] Is it a fact the die-offs are observable on both US coasts?

  • Miner (50:45 in): “I think it was just a few-month epidemic on the East Coast of the US… My feeling, because we have not heard a lot about it, is that it sort of disappeared. It just lasted a few months and then was gone.”

[3] Is it a fact other marine life doesn’t appear to be affected?

  • “Researchers are now keeping an eye on other echinoderms, such as sea urchins and sea cucumbers. Wasting has been observed in those animals… ‘We’re seeing urchins in southern California with lesions in areas where stars were dying’ [said Miner].” -Source
  • Miner (43:15 in): “People are really watching closely [if] it will spread… We’ve had isolated observations of sick urchins and sea cucumbers w/ lesions and other odd looking things.”

What about the reported surge in baby sea stars? “‘It’s not a coast-wide phenomenon at all,’ said Miner… as few as four of 70 long-term sites [have] greater than normal numbers… ‘I was trying really hard to find juveniles and I couldn’t find any,’ said [Chrissy McLean].” -Source

What about reports that wasting mystery is solved? No one knows what might have triggered such widespread wasting, although scientists [published a paper identifying] densovirus rather than environmental pollutants, such as the oft-suggested [Fukushima] radiation… They found the virus in a Connecticut aquarium where mass die-offs had not been observed, as well as in preserved sea stars from 1942… Miner, who is one of the paper’s authors [said] “It’s likely that other environmental factors have pushed stars to the limit” -Source

At least someone is methodically researching the star fish ELE. As children, we would go on field trips to the tide pools by San Clemente and climb around the rocks where sea life was flourishing. But this was back in 1975.

For unknown reasons, their food supply is gone. For unknown reasons the sea lions lack the energy to locate and catch enough food to survive. Let's see, in humans they're always quick to point out inferior genetic makeup allowing them to succumb to disease and death, paying scant attention to the environment or nutritional deficiencies. I say, "lucky for us we can go to the store and chase down a rotisserie chicken from the deli". But, now financial considerations come into play and the need to chase down 10 dollars to pay the one who chased down and cooked the chicken for us :(

They won't stop the money system greed issues on earth and pay people to clean pollution. I think the money printers could just print this money and create trillions of organic jobs if they wanted to. The people that put souls into bodies must know this, and maybe they are just leaving this place, I heard they were using Cern to do it. It is said that the earth has gone into nuclear extinction 4 times already and this is the 5th time. Everytime they do it, the same thing happens where the elite make habitable spaceships. There is a story that the last time they did this some elite scientists escaped into space as usual and were up there 60 years and ran out of supplies, so they landed back on earth and went walking. They encountered people living in caves who were survivors and they put the pictures on cave walls of what they now call ancient aliens, visiting us humans, were really only those one's that protected themselves, escaping into space. The earth never had "cave people" as evolving species. I believe it's all genetic engineering, done underground and mostly what we see today as humans was there before. I'm sure they mixed up some species at times that didn't survive too long of a life so we see "neanderthal looking man" in the bone digs, etc. Just by looking, one cannot tell a smart man from a genius regardless of body looks. The whole game seems to be insiders and outsiders, and evolves into surface people and secret people mostly living…

(raytheon now leaving san diego) from what i understand some of these computer models have pretty good accuracy, like 95+%. and i don't remember the exact dates, but does anyone else remember a few years back when alot of government higherups kept resigning their positions to "spend more time with their families"? this is all just my "gut" feelings. all they have done and will do is to serve their own best interests, the rest of us don't even come into the equation.
sorry if that is too doom and gloom, but i think it is really important for us to come together and really fight back whilst we are still well enough to, to do whatever we can to take some of the burden off future generations.

I remember having massive issues with police in 2010 when I first became homeless on the California coastline. I was sleeping outside in the car. The streets were nearly empty for hundreds of miles, the police were after anything out at night and jumping on them and intimidating them and they towed away thousands of hippie vehicles. Two days before 3/11/2011, I was sleeping on a friends sofa and went out to my car and there was a ticket on it, all muddy. I read the ticket. written time was 3:11 am. The ticket went to someone else's car, wasn't even mine. Suddenly Fukushima blew and it was as if I had been warned in a weird obscure way. I moved to another state…they had radiation real bad also so I came back to California and forgot about it for a year, then went and looked up the land records and property sales and found block after block had changed hands, in 2009, 2010 when they hired secret special aggressive police task force to clear the coastlines so the super rich could sell to the stupid greedy about the up and coming, new and happening places on the California coastlines, that weren't insiders to the information, same as 9/11/2001, insiders got out ahead of time. San Pedro, Los Angeles Fish Market has a few closed buisness and issues for over a year now. Fisherboat toilets shut down "for maintenance", yeah right, just another lie. They are lying all over the place, it's the nature of the insiders, protect themselves using money, stories, even elite…

When they ask you where you live just tell them Earth. In reality nobody can be referred to as homeless. Domestically challenged is a more suitable term. Domestication is the reality, as in animals. Serfdom and feudalism never went away. The police desire to enforce laws and so if the legislature puts a law on the books to criminalize people for either choices they make or circumstances they are in that resolves into a domestic challenge the ones making the laws are to be blamed. They all assume that you are either a victim or a recalcitrant. Either scenario is intolerable to them. As victims are considered weak and the other are considered dangerous. The ones that enforce laws are so very much the lower echelon of the establishment and are chosen usually for their ability to absorb the training and ability to carry out the desire and will of the established order. It is all so distorted and as always I defend the ideology of anarchy to establish a human based system of law and order. The end result being living life freely with no elitist system to burden and crush the human spirit.

Complex sociological, genetic and environmental processes are at the root of psychopathology, but in short our species has a mental illness, with psychopaths concentrating in positions of power. The public gives themselves over to this power, perhaps conditioned by untold centuries of suppression and torture under the rule of the elite.

"The victims of eugenics were poor urban dwellers and rural “white trash” from New England to California, immigrants from across Europe, Blacks, Jews, Mexicans, Native Americans, epileptics, alcoholics, petty criminals, the mentally ill and anyone else who did not resemble the blond and blue-eyed Nordic ideal the eugenics movement glorified. Eugenics contaminated many otherwise worthy social, medical and educational causes from the birth control movement to the development of psychology to urban sanitation. Psychologists persecuted their patients. Teachers stigmatized their students. Charitable associations clamored to send those in need of help to lethal chambers they hoped would be constructed. Immigration assistance bureaus connived to send the most needy to sterilization mills. Leaders of the ophthalmology profession conducted a long and chilling political campaign to round up and coercively sterilize every relative of every American with a vision problem. All of this churned throughout America years before the Third Reich rose in Germany."

If I could try it, I would put limits on money and property any man can accrue and nothing stupid like millionaires and people living on the edge with no savings, nothing close to that. The rich and the poor divide grew and grew, but the poor never were bothered until they either took away their land or came up on it and burned it and killed everybody who didn't join their system and pay taxes, etc. I am still researching how the poor got such a bad rap, killer deal with pagan lies in the history books about them being horrible, and how come they had land loss karma. I was tricked into money and city living, mostly because we all feel a need at 18 to get away from parents who can hardly wait to stop paying for us and they bought into the system, hook, line and sinker…some serious land loving country people, eventually grew gmo food, they are all the land hogs gone corrupt….once again, money corrupts and ruins everything, I suppose it can never work and even a credit system will never stop the liars but living in the moment is impossible if the money system is in place. To live in the moment all the time I think requires natural living for all.

Even though Peter Bradford said the rebirth movement of nuclear power plants is dead there is still a growth side industry.

Doc writes: "Who in their right mind would invest in something that is twice as expensive, much more risky, and has no solution for the radioactive garbage that comes out and needs to be guarded for billions of years? "

SP answers: The military. And they aren't in what I consider a right mind, but they are rarely questioned on their sanity (or lack of).

War preparation trumps public safety issues. Nuclear nations are frequently at war with either home rebels or foreign skirmishes. At home they remain officially or unofficially in a state of martial law.

The Nine (at one time 10) nucleoape military industrial complexes in the world is like the ancient Roman Empire on steroids. Never willing to give up an empire making (or in Israel's case protecting) war weapon. South Africa is the only one that dropped out and dismantled their nuclear arsenal. It's a shame they are considering nuclear power plants.

If those top nations can't agree on global strategy (and they don't) then we are headed helter skelter down a road to nuclear anarchy. And somebody will once again use a nuclear weapon. What are the odds on a country being leveled by a nuclear attack in this century? Astronomical.

Basically every living thing that contains dividing cells was affected – and that is still, and always will be, the reality of having man-made radiation on-the-loose in our environment.

Attached is a never-before published paper from Dr Ernest Sternglass titled "“Fallout and Reproduction of Ocean Fish Populations” – he had calculated that a 1% reduction in ocean fish population was caused by fission product releases per 2.5 kt yield from nuclear weapons. In comparison, the Hiroshima bomb was 15 kilotons. Fukushima has released, by at least one estimation, 400-500 x the Hiroshima bomb into the atmosphere, and another 400-500 x in the Pacific Ocean (by the 2nd anniversary), according to Hiroaki Koide, Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering, Assistant Professor at the Kyoto University Research Institute, and a Nuclear Waste Management & Safety Expert."

I have personally been told the number is much, much higher. Link to article/paper on Scribd:

Fukushima released something like 10,000 Hiroshima bombs. See Dr Goodhearts webpage on estimates. Is that enough to kill an entire ocean? Something like 60,000 times more than the 2.5 kt quantity that would kill 1%

      Pertinent parts of Sternglass paper:

"Early studies by German investigators (2 ) have shown that the rare-earth elements, one of which (Yttrium-90) is the daughter product of Strontium-90, tend to concentrate in the critical, growth controlling glandular organs such as the pituitary, adrenal and thyroid glands rather than in the bone.

As a result, the many short-lived rare-earth elements dominating tropospheric debris from small kiloton weapons such as cerium, lanthanum and yttrium are probably far more serious for the developing embryo of all species than Strontium-90 by itself. In fact, it is only as a result of such unanticipatedly efficient indirect affects on growth and resistance to disease that the very small amounts of radio-isotopes from fission releases could conceivably have such severe effects on infant mortality as have been observed for instance near the Dresden Nuclear Reactor and other nuclear facilities emitting activities well below those permitted by present AEC regulations. (14)

SP: yes, the lowering of carbon forms' resistance to disease…

Similar effects on the developing fish-embryo and young fish would thus be expected to lead to a reduced ability to fight off diseases and natural enemies, leading to a decline in the total fish population within a year or two of the deposition of intensely active fresh fallout debris,…"

Couple days ago I needed an emergency crown placed on a molar that impacted so tight from the Fibula bone from my leg attempting to regrow so much in my skull where it was rebuilt with the leg bone, that it cracked the molar in half! I can still hear that drill in my head!

While at this dentist I mentioned a few keyword search terms I use. These people are really good at what they do, but are completely clueless to what is happening after 4 entire years. Sad this note is, because 100% of the people my wife and I have tested as of late, 100% had no idea what we were talking about!

        • Onto, that's one of the most frightening thoughts…the Fibula used in your reconstructive surgery attempting to regrow! There are people right now trying to figure out what to do about teeth and jaw bones that have steadily changed for the worse from the radiation factor.

Picking a dentist is a nightmare. Not just a simple thing of arranging to get dentures. I think after looking at a person's X-rays, the reconstructive jaw surgery would be advised if the shrinking and damages are significant I fear most, if not all orthodontists, couldn't possibly have experience with additional problems that can occur now.

A couple of years ago a dentist told me that my tooth cracked in half because my gum grew into the tooth. He wanted me to do a crown or implant. Instead, I asked for a bridge. Hubby has one that has lasted forty years. Implants don't last more than a few years and root canals can be dangerous to your health. If your bone structure is solid, bridges are most long lasting and economical. Actually my smile now looks better than before the tooth break. Taking calcium/magnesium/zinc(We take Solaray capsules)at night will improve and heal bones including teeth.

  • Now, see? These guys just aren't being honest.
On the one hand, they are saying it hasn't crossed species. Yet, they then do talk about it propagating (the virus) into cucumbers and urchins. We have seen anemonies take a hit. So have kelp and mussels and welks and many other creatures, particularly further up the western coast.
Now, do I think these creatures are actually suffering from radiation poisoning? Not exactly. I do agree it is a virus or, more likely, a group of viruses, that have infected these sea and creatures within. But, I would have to also say the radiation is growing the virus(es) and is quite possibly playing a large role in mutating viruses that different species have essentially developed resistance to, in the past. That can hit harder and is affecting (killing) populations throughout the Pacific.

Sure, I can be wrong, but I am resistant to the idea that 3 (or five) full-core meltdowns, along with huge explosions of *who knows how many* fuel-pool(s), right ON the Pacific, would not be affecting all of the ocean. Ultimately, it will affect all of the oceans on earth, if it hasn't already, to one degree or another. Any scientist worth his salt (no pun intended) comprehends this.

AnneBeck, my thoughts exactly, but I might also add that the water itself might also have its effects, just very subtly. The effects might manifest at first in single locations that enhance all circumstances at once, then break out of those circumstances and manifest more generally, just like a what might be a normal pattern of infection.

We really don't want urchins to become spinless shells into which we've put memory of their existence, do we?

      Report comment

      • Well, yeah; Shaker & WNTF..
Like I posted (another thread?), I do think tritium, replacing (one?) hydrogen atom in WATER (hello!), all over the Pacific, is having a huge impact. In fact, I do think tritium is going to be THE biggest factor in the death of the Pacific.
But,and if –big IF– if it is true that seastars and other creatures are dying from viruses and bacteria, I would say this is because those diseases have been puffed-up by radionuclides (including Cesium and Strontium and, now more than ever, Americium..)

That's the thing about radiation; it both decays and mutates everything around it. So, if you don't end up with a big ol' hole in your side, you'll grow a tumor. WHICH will kill you first?

I really like how ENENEWS admin asked great questions and answers them in the original post.

ENENEWS doesn't need our dumb comments :)

    From ENENEWS admin above:

"[1] Is it a fact this disease predates the 2011 arrival of the Fukushima plume on the West Coast?

Melissa Miner, researcher who works for Dr. Raimondi (at 18:30): “The Olympic coast was the first place, in June 2013, where we saw the disease.”

Miner (at 4:45): “This is very different from prior events…It’s not associated w/ warm water … Populations really [got] hit hard over the winter, this has never happened… The other big difference… is the geographic extent is much, much larger than we’ve ever seen.”

[2] Is it a fact the die-offs are observable on both US coasts?

Miner (50:45 in): “I think it was just a few-month epidemic on the East Coast of the US… My feeling, because we have not heard a lot about it, is that it sort of disappeared. It just lasted a few months and then was gone.”

[3] Is it a fact other marine life doesn’t appear to be affected?

“Researchers are now keeping an eye on other echinoderms, such as sea urchins and sea cucumbers. Wasting has been observed in those animals… ‘We’re seeing urchins in southern California with lesions in areas where stars were dying’ [said Miner].” -Source
Miner (43:15 in): “People are really watching closely [if] it will spread… We’ve had isolated observations of sick urchins and sea cucumbers w/ lesions and other odd looking things.” "

I used to wonder where my daughter would work, what life in general would hold. Now, these questions have been replaced with, where will she get clean water? What kind of food will be available, and what parts of the country, and world, will still be habitable?
I don't think things are getting bad, I believe they are becoming catastrophic. Life as we know it might be at an end on this planet.
Recent US Navy research states the Arctic will be ice-free by 2016, scientists in general predict 2018. If the summer sea ice loss passes the point of no return, and if catastrophic Arctic methane feedbacks kick in, we'll be in an instant planetary emergency.
We have never been on a planet with no Arctic ice..With CO2 levels at 400+..
Methane plumes are now bubbling up in the Siberian Sea, millions of square miles of methane cover is now being released. Methane is 23 times more powerful than CO2 [ per molecule] and 105 times more potent in heating
    up the planet.
According to Nature Geoscience, the Northern Siberian Shelf is releasing 1million tons of methane per year. Some scientists fear that the situation is so serious and so many self-reinforcing feedback loops are already in play, that we are in the process of causing our own extinction. We are now witnessing rapid changes in the Earth system. Secure your food and water source while there is still time..

Fucked royally right where it hurts is what this is! Not a fucking thing can be done to fix what has been broken I believe! It's beyond me by far and all of you seem to feel the same…fuck it! The shitheads win, if you want to call it that! They can bomb the fuck out of whatever they want! Fuck them! Shit! Fuckin happy whatever

Tin. Don't apologize. I feel the same way, used to be angry. Now I live in the "acceptance stage". If I can make a suggestion, read "On Death and Dying" by Kubler-Ross. It addresses the 5 stages of loss and grief. You can find a good summary of her work at psychcentral.com or just google it.
Peace and good thoughts to you and yours.

I would think there would be a point in time when testing the water supply in California ..for radiation contamination ..might be appropriate.
Oh.. that's right ..what water supply?

Only 1 year of water left in California, NASA scientist suggests rationing

    http://rt.com/usa/240657-nasa-california-water-drought/

A satellite was put up recently to detect water.
They are going to know every contaminated drop that goes down our parched throats.
    You betcha..

    • Californians: "We don'thave great-whites in our water!"
      Yes, Cali; you do, now!

Anyone else know why these massive animals have (suddenly, as in the past few years..) migrated all the way up into Alaska, the Allutians, and Canada (and off of Russia)? I bet *almost* everyone in this thread knows.., and it is not "only" due to the overuse of fossil fuels. I saw a pretty good video in PBS (believe it or not) about this phemomenon. The writers did say it was climate change, as the climate change is most obvious up there, but they did NOT limit the reasons for said change to fossil fuels. That actually impressed me; that they didn't go there and stay there.

I learned quite a bit about great-whites, from that documentary (and there are few films I qualify as documentary)…

A new species of Californian was seen the other day; it looked like a hominid with an ostrich torso and neck which tended to bury it's head in the sands of sanity ignoring dead sea life washing up at it's ankles.

This same species has decided that wayward atomic energies from awol reactor cores and fools pools is to be ignored AT ALL COSTS.

Instead, these semi-sentient beings will fill out their March Madness brackets before noticing the absence of marine life and proclaim that it is disease NOT rads that are to blame.

Nick, they are "full on" sentient being who have found survival value in ignoring the subjective facts as they obtrude upon the senses. We are taught as children that we must read to gain knowledge, later on in life we find that everything we read has been carefully written to give us false opinions so that tptb continue to sell us their green eggs and ham. I suppose through repetition we get desensitized to the garbage and finally accept it.

Dying California Coastlines: They knew they were going to do Fukushima ahead of time. On 3/11/2009 the process of selling a ton of real estate to the non-insiders was in progress. Huge amounts of properties changed hands as they got out, so I saw this in land records in California, this can be seen who is an insider, just look at who sold and real estate. The up and coming new "Venice", California was largely sold and the new comers had a TV show about "Venice" which petered OUT after a few episodes…it was all as scam to sell. 2012, I see lot's of homeless suicides, and dropping dead, like huge amounts of them, the police stopped bothering them so much, they knew they would die of radiation anyway by then…Most of them were drunken or drug addicts but not me. I had two bloody noses out of the radiation, kinda obvious. Seeing dead birds, squirrels, and racoons, dropping on the sidewalk and grass all the time, but that didn't happen until 2013. Then in 2014 Eden my friend died. She was brilliant, lived in a homeless motor home. She had cancer as a child and went into chemotherapy and radiation and wasn't a high energy person but didn't know she wasn't cured. She was about 55 years old, straight, and just in court all the time with strange police issues over nothing besides homeless rights. She got outrageous cancer and dropped dead in two months. I can see if you already have had x-radiation therapy, dentists, x-ray surgery, your among the first to die.
