i just can't get into this… i mean, yeah revolution, x-events, whatever they're called. it's good to look at these things from afar intellectually, but for those in the thick of it–and 10 yrs isn't going to be looking very good for the children, offspring, you name it–this remains a horrendous time and i have no idea when, if ever, it will end. i ask myself all the time, laura, is that your ptsd talking, projecting you onto the world? i mean, i live w/ a 24/7 pain condition. but when it comes right down to it, no, i don't think so. we know from chernobyl, 26 yrs… 26 yrs. maybe it brought down the soviet union, but life hasn't improved a hell of a lot. no, life is hell thanks to human beings who seek power and money.

Moineau – IMO, there's definitely something "off" about the interview – coming from both the interviewer and from Casti. They comfortably stay "in their heads"; they bring no natural emotional response such as empathy into their discussion. I find it very offensive (and quit listening after I think they'd "explored" Casti "advice" to the Japanese.) Worse yet, IMO, for all their "head work", they do not explore Casti's thesis in an analytical, critical thinking way. Casti shares his thesis, his interviewer prompts him with modest questions that do not challenge. How comfortable for them. Annoying and worse to my listening mind! I don't 'sense' a single iota of genuine compassionate interest in humanity from either one of them.

      • You can tell the propagandists by how they relate to the phrase "conspiracy theorist." Conspiracies are commonplace. It's the most common criminal charge. Humans conspire like the body breathes.

Ever sign a non-disclosure agreement? That's a conspiracy to give the owner of the agreement an unfair advantage in the marketplace. Why should anyone have a secret from anyone? To gain unfair advantage.

Most corporations are organized legal conspiracies.

It's more useful to analyze WHO BENEFITS from any given conspiracy than to chuckle about the "theory."

moineau, no need to tell me if it is too personal or you'd rather not for any other reason, but I am wondering what your pain condition is. Does it pre- or post-date the Fukushima debacle?

I have a pretty bad pain problem myself, that just came upon me after 3/11.

  • Well, I've always thought that there's going to be little improvement in world affairs unless somehow the earth was endangered from without, e.g. [forgive me] an alien attack.

We have the equivalent of a large-scale alien invasion right now. Their little bullets are now ping-pong-ing all over the planet wreaking destruction to food, land, plants, ocean, animals and people.

A normal reaction would be for the earthlings to try and take those invaders out.

Not only have they released their nano-bullets, they desperately want to hide the fact of their release then fire off yet more of them to finish us (& themselves) off completely.

They've also made sure all future generations will be finished off completely.

One way might be to try and take them out while they're reloading.

Austria, I'm beginning to realize, has a curious history of sending ideas into the world of a "certain type"!

We've got the Austrian school of Economics to thank for much current economic woes if I understand correctly. It also turns out that the "socialize compliance" aspect of American education was first explored in Austria back before public ed was developed in America. Just tried to find tidbit on the Austrian connection to name the Austrian but couldn't quickly find it. John Taylor Gatto is the retired educator/researcher who's been talking/writing about this for some years. I am a retired teacher and have some *firm* disagreements with Gatto's full assessment. I've known and taught in schools dedicated to individual "whole child" development, often employing programs Gatto says are missing. But I do agree with the gist of his criticism – that real education doesn't happen in school environments that don't foster development of individual curiosity and independent questioning minds.

It seems "Austria" is popping up as source of more than one "human management theory"! (To be fair! I knew an Austrian couple for years and found them delightful – they were "tradespeople", not "think tank members"!)

Is the underlying assumption here that this is a much-needed 'wake-up call' & now that it has happened, the world will 'wake up' & change its ways? (I didn't want to take the time to listen to this whole radio show).

Anyway, the record of history is there for us to see – the elites know what they want, & they just keep on pursuing their selfish & reckless/insane agendas, & the consequences for humanity & the planet be damned – that's the way it always has been & I don't see anything changing now, as a result of the Fukushima nightmare.

In defiance of the wishes of 70% or more of its people, Japan is restarting its nuclear reactors, ignoring/denying the on-going poisoning of its people, refusing to test or treat them, etc. – same old, same old.

And it's not just Japan – it is all the nations of the world… is there a single government that is reacting/responding appropriately/responsibly?

I think back to some of the videos I have seen, about, for instance, the determined & well-organized opposition to the opening (or was it the re-opening) of the San Onofre reactors (if I am remembering correctly) – & that got no good results – the response from industry & government was the same as always – we don't care what the people want, we're going to do what we're going to do, & govt. is the industry lapdog as usual – end of story.

Or end of that chapter – disaster chapters will inevitably follow, along with the denial & cover-up chapters, etc.

My point here is that the people don't decide, the people have no power; industry and the money-men are running the show and doing all the deciding, even if it is 180 degrees opposite from what the people want (and from what common sense and prudence dictate) … and government is the hand-maiden and whore of industry, for sale to the highest bidder.

so he is saying humans need a strong reason to detach imo…

but i think reason and common sense could lead us down a less harsh path.. we need an informed citizenry to decide how to create a sustainable world..

like his point about the technology being to complicated to handle

"..Life flows like a river. It is impermanent, all things are impermanent – it’s the nature of the world. Therefore life is changing continuously. So when we resist this change by clinging to something that is changing, we become attached. We can’t be happy because we resist the change, what is futile. Of course we can direct change up to a certain degree, but we can’t prevent it. The key is to get into the river of life and direct the course of positive change. Then the fear of change also vanishes…"

There's probably something on complexity on TedTalks too. While we're trying to imagine workable solutions to current world affairs, especially re energy, I find it useful (for me) to be reminded of the nature of extreme complexity in human designed social/economic systems.

Mood Matters… from the smile and it wont hurt you camp…or it's all good even when we kill babies, even when our genome is altered, even when millions of lives are slowly lost, it's all good.

"Mood Matters" makes the radical assertion that all social events ranging from fashions in music and art to the rise and fall of civilizations are biased by the attitudes a society holds toward the future. When the "social mood" is positive and people look forward to the future, events of an entirely different character tend to occur than when society is pessimistic…

John L. Casti and Markku Wilenius: Life After Wall Street
    26:45 – 3 years ago
Life After Wall Street – Indicates the finance crisis the end of globalizations? Recent turmoil in the global financial markets has often been described in the media as a tectonic shift in the global financial system. Prof. John L. Casti, a former researcher at RAND Corporation and member of the external faculty of the Santa Fe Institute suggests that an asteroid impact or a super volcano would be a better metaphor. The financial crisis that began in October 2007 is far from over, and represents just one manifestation of the increasingly negative social mood gripping the entire world, a mood change that will last many years, if not a decade or more. Casti is convinced that we look here at some of the types of events likely to be seen in the economy, finance, politics and general social trends during this bleak period, including the end of the phenomenon of “globalization” as it’s been since the mid 1970s, the unraveling of the European Union, and the end of financial institutions such as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. Casti will discuss his forecast with Professor Markku Wilenius, Vice President Allianz SE, member of the Club or Rome and Vice President of the Advisory Board of the European Futurists Conference Lucerne

Ordo ab chao (order out of chaos).

Many analysts see this financial crisis as something deliberately brought about by the big money men, in order to provide the necessary 'crisis' to justify the 'solution' of creating a world bank (using intrinsically worthless fiat 'money' of course) and a world government (the ultimate centralization of power into a few hands)- which is what the international corporate/banking elites have long been wanting and attempting to achieve – not a warm and fuzzy world order, but a harsh and totalitarian one …. not of, by, and for the people, but of, by, and for the ruling elites.

And what will happen when the cows start waking up to the reality that their survival is being threatened? All through modern history, it has been basically the same scenario – a small group of powerful men have controlled the masses, by a combination of force & deception. But with the growth of the mass media, & the centralization of power into fewer hands, deception has played an increasingly larger role.

As things are now, the people participate in their own deception; they use the defense mechanism of denial in order to avoid looking this reality in the face.

Those of us who are more aware (like many of the people here on enenews) – one of our main subjects of frustration – & conversation with each other – is the unaware masses all around us – those who 'don't know & don't wanna know.'

The elites are not looking or acting afraid, as far as I can see. They are inexorably continuing on with their thrust for global empire. Basically, the people can complain all they want; but they are powerless to stop the elites, & the elites know it.

The elites control the world's centers of power & they also have state of the art weapons ready to deploy against us – many of which we are clueless about (we don't even know they exist – 'shock & awe' – right?). We're kind of like the Indians with bows & arrows against the Cavalry with their repeater rifles & cannons – & endless funding.

I've been dealing with this frustrating reality for several decades now. I read, study, try to tell people what I've been reading & learning – & mostly I am dissed & ignored.

Why the need for deception, if they're all powerful? Could it be they're relying on us to design, manufacture, and deploy those weapons? And would we still do it, if we knew the truth? These "elite" may be good at deception, but I doubt they could accomplish much without the people they deceive.

getout etc. – just check out some of the books I suggested. Info on these books, authors, & subjects is available on U Tube also; & you can Google them.

Govt.s typically (historically) get taken over by greedy & amoral men who want to use their great powers & infrastructure to rob from the public purse – to exploit govt.s' powers to tax & wage war/use force – want to use the law & these powers to benefit themselves personally.

Actually this is hardly 'new news.' I did not say these cliques are 'all powerful' but they are VERY powerful – have made it their business/goal to increase & consolidate their powers for the last century & more.

Yes, we have provided a lot of labor for them. But the trend is to use robotics in addition to mechanized factory production & they anticipate needing fewer workers. They also want to pay us as little as possible for our labor. This is one reason (need for fewer laborers) they want to drastically reduce the world population (in their own words – again Google it & check out on U Tube).

It is almost axiomatic that govt. is a power hub & thus it attracts ambitious & amoral men who want to become powerful & wealthy.

Govt. has extensive infrastructure & 2 special powers, the power to TAX (confiscate our earnings) & to WAGE WAR/USE FORCE LEGALLY. Throughout history, greedy & ambitious men have sought to gain positions of power in govt in order to use these powers to benefit/enrich themselves personally.

good article, thanks. of course, it still flows on to current day politics .. just shows how long this waste cycle can go on for.

"The future of Rancho Seco itself is uncertain. The plant cannot be dismantled until a place is found for its spent fuel. The Department of Energy is studying a site in Nevada, at Yucca Mountain, which would be a repository for the highly radioactive wastes of all the nation's nuclear plants. But even the most optimistic projections are that no repository can be ready before the early years of the next century"

I feel old now. It was a long time ago but the same economics are there. If you look at Rancho Seco the problem with that plant was the new media getting ahold of all the bad information about the dangers of that plant. Over the years the gov has refined the information released to the public and this is why there is less blowback from the citizens.

So, if we start shutting them down now, they still won't really be safe for maybe 100 years or more so there is no time like now to get started. Or…we are going to keep running these plants until we are all dead.
