Wilma Subra, environmental chemist: This sinkhole probably isn’t finished growing…

My question was: “What are you doing to prevent groundwater from entering your sinkhole and dissolving more of your salt from the top”…

The answer I got from the Office of Conservation: “We talked about it, but we didn’t make that decision”…

They didn’t have someone to say, “You are responsible so we want you to install something to prevent groundwater from making sinkhole bigger”…

That sinkhole is continuing to fill with rain, run-off and groundwater going down…

If the freshwater is making its way down to the top of the salt [dome] it’s dissolving that, and it’s creating it’s own situation.
