Follow up to: Radioactive material reportedly now being released from massive gas blowout in LA — Byproduct of Uranium — Expert: “A lot” has been detected… Very dangerous (VIDEO)

Interviews from Nuclear Hotseat hosted by Libbe HaLevy, Jan 13, 2016 (emphasis added):

Kevin Kamps,  Beyond Nuclear’s nuclear waste watchdog (8:30 in): “Another important thing that is very significant is that the radon is continually resupplied… Radon is going to be constantly generated by the uranium contained in the methane… So really you’ve got a chronic constant supply of hazardous radon gas coming out of this breach in California.”

Cindy Folkers, Beyond Nuclear‘s expert on ionizing radiation (16:00 in): “I’m absolutely astounded that they are not measuring for radon that I know of… I can’t believe that they’re not measuring for radon… [Radon] also decays to a number of what are called radon progeny which includes a number of short-lived radioactive substances, some of which are lead and polonium. Both of those can be very biologically damaging… There is question as to the kind of doses that they would be getting of radon, but it still is really very much a worry… I feel like — doing the research that I’ve done — that we are not getting the full story of what’s happening there.”

Richard Mathews, candidate for California State Senate who studied physics & astronomy at CALTECH (32:00 in): “People are really concerned about this, people are seriously getting sickThousands of people are getting sick from this — and it really is a major, major disaster… Methane floats away and spreads around the whole world… All the contaminants that are in with the methane are heavier than the air and that includes… benzene and toluene, hydrogen sulfide — all of those are heavier than air — they tend to stay close to the ground and move downhill. This is happening in the hills above the San Fernando Valley [home to nearly 2 million people] and so the poisons are all moving down into the San Fernando Valley and spreading through the entire San Fernando Valley… As the radon and other substances flow around, they are accumulating. They are not easily blown out of the valley, and we are getting higher and higher levels… The lead is going to be around for decades… The initial lead that you get is radioactive. This will be a continuing problem… It could spread through the entire San Fernando Valley… The damage that the radon does stays in your body… and shows up as cancer a decade after, maybe even 80 years later. So we really need to follow through.”

Terry Lodge, attorney (50:00 in): “You have a massive release, probably, of radon going on — and there may actually also be radium particulate… I’d be taking very rapid steps [if I lived in the area], I’d be running like hell. And the reason is, I suspect that there’s little by way of emergency anticipation — what could possibly go wrong? We have this vast underground storage facility… There are not radiation monitors… the problem is sort of the Three Mile Island problem… the radiation emission went way off the meter… there were no redundant rings, there was no monitoring certain distances outside the plant boundary. You don’t even have that at Porter [Ranch]… They don’t know how much radon is being dispersed… [Radon] can be concentrated by rainfall, concentrated by humidity, and inversions… There needs to be some type of soil sampling… air, and all that… So the problem is that radon is around in the Porter Ranch situation — nobody’s prepared for it. They’re not talking about it now — this may months into the crisis.”

Allegations of two air force bases doing biological weapons testing in Nevada or near the California and Nevada border exist. Cannot remember where I read this. Had lived near Incline Village in the early 1990's and nearby small towns. Many people were ill from chronic fatigue at the time. Unsure what air bases the new story referred to, but there is an air base not far from the Bridgeport area. It lies in the mountains somewhere between Bridgeport and Sonora, California. There may be another air base or military installation in the valley along 395, just south of Minden, NV.

At first the people thought to have "chronic fatigue syndrome" later called "CFIDS" or Chronic Fatigue Immune Deficiency Syndrome were thought to have viral exposures or multiple viral exposures. Epstein-Barr, Cytomegalovirus, and various forms of HPV were potential causes.

Now the brain studies of CFIDS patients are beginning to share features in common with Myalgic Encephalitis patients. Many patients with Gulf War Syndrome have brain imaging studies that are similar to CFIDS patients. In Canada, the syndrome is now commonly referred to as Myalgic Encephalitis.

Am wondering if we'll ever know where this disease originated, and/or if it is a product of biological and/or radiological, chemical weapons testing and use.

Just thought I'd throw that out there since two classes of patients at first thought dissimilar share a pattern in their illness.

Consensus will never be reached in modern civilization(mc) on this and related similar issues because the framework: A society of specialists and their present state of knowledge is imperfect!
Anchored in mc's idioms, people will never see the truth!
There is the famous Goedel's Axiom of Choice: Given a set of mutually exclusive non-empty sets, another set can be constructed which contains one element from each of these sets! Thus the facts are such that the phenomena are interconnected! This in mc's idioms this can nether be proved nor disproved!
You must view mc from a higher framework consisting of the following assumptions:
There is true knowledge, learn thou it is this:
To see one changeless life in all the lives, in the separate the inseparable.
There is imperfect knowledge: To see the separate existences apart and hold it to be true.
There is false knowledge: To cling to one as if it were all, heedless of the harm, heedless of the consequences, narrow and dull and dark.
Thus the reality is that everything is rigidly interconnected(The principle of perfect design).
The contamination created by mc is all pervading and mc is self destructive and destructive of all life.
Stop modern civilization based on falsehood in its tracks and deliberate to design a normal way which imitates nature beyond understanding.

… Alpha-5, an original part of the World War II Manhattan Project, has been shut down for more than a decade, and it's begging for attention. The 613,000-square-foot building was used for various missions during the Cold War, and it's thoroughly contaminated with uranium, mercury, beryllium and other hazards that have been made worse by the intrusion of water from an old and failing roof.

The basement is a swamp. About 2 million gallons of water have collected there, allowing toxic contaminants to mingle directly with the groundwater. Heavy moisture inside Alpha-5 has caused mold to grow like crazy, forcing the use of a respirator by anyone who ventures inside.

The DOE has a long list of cleanup projects underway that pose difficult challenges and cost a ton of money.

But the problem posed by Alpha-5 and other so-called "excess facilities" is they're not yet in the cleanup queue. …

    The Bundy Brigade's Economic Delusions
“…the West has flourished because of the federal government’s help, not in spite of it. No region’s economy has depended more on subsidies and taxpayer-funded investment. In the nineteenth century, the Homestead Act handed out free land to settlers, and the transcontinental railroad was built thanks to cheap land grants and huge government outlays. The federal government has played a vital role in managing the Western watershed, while investing billions of dollars in dams and other public infrastructure. As the historian Gerald Nash has shown, the West’s postwar boom was jump-started by money the government poured into the region during the Second World War.
“Furthermore, Bundy’s beloved ranching, mining, and logging industries have been some of the biggest beneficiaries of government largesse.…
” Demonizing the federal government and trying to resuscitate the past may have its demagogic appeal. But the Old West is gone, and it isn’t coming back.”

The government does have authority to regulate environmental pollution caused by anyone. This is how they were able to shut down Rocky Flats weapons plant producing plutonium pits. It was not safe but creating harmful environmental pollution.

In Wyoming where the Russians are mining uranium, the state is now enforcing environmental protection laws that are stricter than the federal standards.

We've also seen how states and localities have been able to turn down nuclear energy plants and nuclear waste dumps.

The video you are watching are opinions expressed by those like the Koch brothers who want to cut down every tree in the US which would cause erosion and loss of wild life, etc.

The Congree, President, and the Supreme Court all have a say in environmental protection. When President Bush was president (typical of Republicans) the environmental protections were not enforced. President Bush was formerly Governor of Texas, with the worst environmental protections enforcement in the nation.

The person in this video would be able to put a uranium mine anywhere in the US if he and those he represents had a choice. They would cut down every tree. They would mine coal anywhere and everywhere in the US. The federal environmental protections plus the states' stricter laws keep the US from become the disaster that is China. California has the some of or the strictest environmental protection laws. Trade agreements like TPP and NAFTA destroy those environmental protection laws.

My comments were directed to DUD.

Foreigners and agents of foreign governments seek to change the laws in the US because they want to destroy and conquer the US.

And because our government is complicit with these foreign governments, under the guise of friendly and supposed necessary global governance, are treasonous in their actions and in the failure to protect the sovereignty.

            • Dr. Anne Lee Tomlinson Maziar PraisingTruth

And we know that people, including spies for foreign governments, will do anything for money.

As well, people with good intentions are also swayed by propaganda and propaganda sound bites published by large corporations. This the reason we still have nuclear energy and nuclear weapons. Without any environmental protection there will be 2,000 new nuclear energy plants puts to pollute every square inch of the US. This is the end of the world. Only the laws of the federal government kept no new nuclear energy plants built in the US for 30 years. Only the laws of the federal government stopped atmospheric nuclear testing in 1961. Only the laws of the federal government prevent all the food from containing ecoli bacteria. Only the laws of the federal government regulate the purity of medical, pharmaceutical drugs.

Heart, If the public lands were privatized, the land wouldn't go to the ranchers. It would go to the loggers and the mining companies. The US protects its lands so that the ranchers have a place to graze their livestock now and in generations to come. The US subsidizes ranching.

And the best economy now comes from tourism and recreation, not from strip mining or fracking or destroying the environment.

                      Mining Claims and Sites
The General Mining Law of 1872, as amended

The Mining Law of 1872 governs mining claims and sites located on Federal lands. It declared that public lands that are open to mineral-entry be available for development and extraction of metallic and nonmetallic locatable minerals by United States citizens. The law also encourages mining companies to initiate exploration and development of such minerals.

Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976 (FLPMA)

This Act did not amend the 1872 law, but did affect the recordation and maintenance of claims. Persons holding existing claims were required to record their claims with the BLM by October 1979, and all new claims were required to be recorded with the BLM. FLPMA’s purpose was to provide the BLM with information on the locations and number of unpatented mining claims, mill sites and tunnel sites to determine the names and addresses of current owners and remove any cloud of title on abandoned claims.

The Aliso Canyon Blowout: A Tale of Corporate Obliviousness
    January 18, 2016

By Attorneys Frank Petosa and Rene Rocha

The BP Oil Spill (aka the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill) shocked the world in 2010. The disaster took place in federal waters off the coast of Louisiana, but its impact soon spread to several other states as well—turning upside down the lives of people across the Gulf Coast. It soon became apparent that BP had not previously secured any well control equipment that could be used to respond to the blowout, had not developed any contingency plans to deal with such a blowout, and basically had never bothered to consider the possibility of a catastrophic well failure. As a result of this failure to plan, the only option available to BP was to drill a relief well, a painstaking process that takes months to complete. All the while hydrocarbons and other pollutants billowed into the Gulf of Mexico.

As required by federal law governing offshore oil spills, BP soon set up a claims process for individuals and businesses to submit claims for compensation for the disruption caused by the blowout. However, as weeks turned to months and with the end of the blowout nowhere in sight, it soon became apparent that BP was distorting the claims process, and preying on the struggling individuals and businesses impacted by the blowout …

    • rogerthat

to secure full and final releases of liability for pennies on the dollar.

Meanwhile, BP persistently lied to the federal government, the media, and the American public regarding how much oil was actually spilling into the Gulf.

The figures BP was reporting for public consumption were off by a factor of 10, and BP knew it. But it was impossible to verify or fact check BP’s oil spill figures, because only BP had access to the wellhead and the data from monitoring the flow rate. BP consciously undertook a marketing campaign designed to minimize the impact of the spill, while simultaneously seeking to settle claims for next to nothing.

There are many parallels between the disaster unfolding in Aliso Canyon and the BP Oil Spill, and comparisons between the two are being made by public officials, scientists, environmental experts, attorneys and the media.

As natural gas and other harmful chemicals billow out the SoCalGas well unabated, SoCalGas has sought to downplay the effects and impact of the blowout.

SoCalGas denies that the blowout is actually an environmental catastrophe, and has repeatedly stated that the risks to human health are minimal.

However, like the BP Oil Spill, only SoCalGas has access to the data being collected at the wellhead—and like BP, it is being less than transparent about what is actually flowing from the well. Family pets and wildlife have been dying, and that is giving nearby residents reason to suspect …

      • rogerthat

that SoCalGas is not telling them the full story about the health risks stemming from this blowout. It does not help SoCalGas’ credibility that they initially denied the existence of the leak, and told residents that the smell of gas was the result of routine maintenance operations.

SoCalGas Failed to Learn the Lessons of the BP Oil Spill

BP’s Oil Spill Response Plan for the Macondo Well can be summed up in two sentences: “Call Boots & Coots. If they can’t stop it, drill a relief well.” Boots & Coots have earned a reputation as well control specialists, but this should never have been BP’s only plan.

BP ignored several options, such as having response technology and equipment readily available and preparing a multi-faceted oil spill response plan that addressed many contingencies.

BP routinely ignored safety critical maintenance, and refused to install many safety upgrades to its well equipment because they weren’t specifically required by regulators. These upgrades, such as a double blind shear rams, v-shaped shearing rams, and more powerful battery pods on its blowout preventer, may have stopped the blowout before it happened.

As a result of BP’s failure to plan for, or even consider, the possibility of a catastrophic well failure in the Gulf of Mexico, the only method available to stop the blowout was to drill a relief well—a process that took months, while hydrocarbons flowed into the Gulf of Mexico unabated. …

        • rogerthat

… Unfortunately, SoCalGas did not learn the lessons of the BP Oil Spill. Despite being an onshore well, far less complex than the Macondo Well, and potentially with easier access to blowout response technology and equipment, SoCalGas’ response plan was identical to the BP 2010 plan—they called Boots & Coots, and when that didn’t work, they started drilling a relief well.

This failure to plan is a shocking refusal to heed the warnings of the BP disaster.

Although SoCalGas knew that the wells in the Aliso Canyon field were old and decaying—this particular well was drilled in 1953 and repurposed in the 1970s—it did not maintain or repair the equipment, plan for a catastrophic well failure, or even have readily available response technology and equipment that could have been used to shut in the well.

In fact, SoCalGas removed a malfunctioning critical piece of safety equipment—the Subsurface Safety Valve—instead of repairing it, because it was not required by regulatory agencies to repair or replace it. …

          The Blowout Is Not Controlled

As weeks turn into months, and the completion of the relief well remains in the distant future, pollutants continue to billow out of the Aliso Canyon well. …

'Dumping ground' fear over Bradwell's future

Bradwell power station may be used to store waste from other power plants
Sunday 17 January 2016 / North Essex news

Radioactive waste from other nuclear power stations could be stored at Bradwell, it has been revealed.

Magnox, the company running Bradwell power station, has asked Essex County Council whether it needs to draw up a full environmental impact assessment on plans to import nuclear waste from other power stations.

In 2013, the Standard revealed how politicians had accused Magnox of breaking promises after admitting it was considering turning the Downhall Beach station, which is being decommissioned, into an alleged “nuclear dumping ground”.

Magnox’s submission to County Hall reveals “intermediate level waste” would be stored, encased in cement, inside stainless steel drums or concrete boxes.

It would be imported from Dungeness A and Sizewell A until around 2040, when a national geological disposal facility is due to be created.

Magnox defended the proposals, saying it would save around £200million of taxpayers’ money and avoid the need to build £30million of additional storage space. …

Bomb threats to high schools in two states since Friday

Considering the difficulty of remaining undetected across multiple cities in a two state area,,,even if using multiple pay phones, it seems likely investigation of the points of origin would have led to a witness of at least one of those calls to high schools.

Because the threats are over such a wide area, they appear to have been orchestrated by an unknown group…fear porn by virtual terrorists, if you will. Another possibility is, it's an epidemic of copycat young pranksters, a kind of buzz idea that may spread. If so, in order to deter further mischief, why hasn't even one caller been identified in FOUR days…?

Slaughtering Wild Horses and the BLM: A Fatal Mix

      Re the BLM

“The agency manages the federal government's nearly 700 million acres (2,800,000 km2) of subsurface mineral estate located beneath federal, state and private lands severed from their surface rights by the Homestead Act of 1862.
Most BLM public lands are located in these 12 western states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.[4] “

I repeat: the BLM exists to manage the subsurface mineral estate located beneath federal, state and private lands severed from their surface rights by the Homestead Act of 1862.

It may be that the Porter Ranch oil spill should have been overseen by the BLM, however it appears that oil and gas were exempt from certain controls that applied to other mining activities. Does anyone know who OWNS the subsurface rights of Porter Ranch lands?

      • CodeShutdown CodeShutdown

Angela, If you look into the history of the railroad, and BLM and corrupt government officials, you might see that the BLM owns the minerals under lots of 'private property' and they can drill baby drill and theres nothing you can do about it. The 'overseeing' is the same as 'mineral grab profiteering'

2 sides of the same, exact, coin.

If your just searching back, J Paul Getty owned a lot of land, most all of the foothills around Simi Valley, plenty of oil wells.
Rockefeller as well with Standard Oil, now Exxon and Chevron,
the 2 largest producers/refiners in LA.

From one of you earlier posts, it will be a convoluted search I'm sure, about 90% maybe. It all stinks.

          • AirSepTech AirSepTech

Sorry, Also may be the Porters (family/estate/??) retain rights, get royalties, on an on.

I'm am guessing with some knowledge as back-up.
In Nevada, the TS Ranch had all kinds of issues/business/you name it, good and bad.

All to do with the N. Nevada gold mines. There is a love/hate relationship with everything, hard to function without mineral trades everyday/everyway.

That's Capitalism, America was built on it.

Though, one could ask – how did they get large tracts of land? Surely not from Land Grants. Perhaps they purchased Subsurface Rights.

              Re your 5.03pm
As I understand, gold was one of the minerals excluded from some transfers in the conveyance of Title; i.e. on those where Government withheld mineral rights. Or on those private lands where split title was allowed.

          • Angela_R

            and in recent times:

“Fracking trespass law changes move forward despite huge public opposition
Ministers reject 40,000 objections to allow fracking below homes without owners’ permission
The UK government argued that the current ability for people to block shale gas development under their property would lead to significant delays and that the legal process by which companies can force fracking plans through was costly, time-consuming and disproportionate.”

            Perhaps slant drilling……

I've heard of houses being built over old mines because records were not kept, but not this, never this!

"..New laws will now be passed giving automatic access for gas and oil development below 300m and a notification and compensation scheme will be run by the industry on a voluntary basis.."

Do you volunteer for a psychopathic disorder/lie detector
test ? I think the public should have a right to demand this from their politicians..what you think , good man ?

Thanks Code, I am catching up with US Law, in many ways it is not unlike that in Australia.

          I have read the following:

"The General Railroad Right of Way Act of March 3, 1875 (1875 Act) granted railroad companies a 100 foot right-of-way (ROW) on public land on either side of a railroad line subject to certain terms and conditions. Thousands of miles of 1875 Act ROWs are estimated to exist on public land in the western United States."

I note it shows as Public Land. The Fed. Gov. was directed to plan layout of land around the time the U.S. Constitution was written. Many people were offered Homestead lots, which allowed surface rights, with the subsurface rights withheld. Easements for utilities may also have been marked for future use. After having complied with the conditions, the homesteader paid little if any money for their lots. To me, they seem to have been 'grants' of land.

Unfortunately it appears that, as in many countries, future buyers have failed to peruse the deeds procured and failed to become aware of the exclusions. For them, it comes as a rude awakening.

          • AirSepTech AirSepTech

By far, paying tax is the name of the game.

Developed land is the gov moneymaker, they have no way to do it, you do, and pay the tax.

They just set the rules. And increasingly, change them, and that is where things go astray.

          • Angela_R

Think correction to my post @ 4.57pm, is needed,

researching further, I read that the separation of surface rights from the subsurface occurred at a later time:

"Unlike the Homestead Act of 1862 or the Enlarged Homestead Act of 1909, land homesteaded under the 1916 act separated surface rights from subsurface rights, resulting in what later became known as split estates.[1] The subsurface rights, also known as mineral rights, are the foundation of recent oil and gas law in the United States.[1]"

"Mineral rights may be severed by a deed from the surface rights. Such a condition is called a split estate. Once severed from surface ownership, oil and gas rights may be bought, sold, or transferred, like other real estate property. Ownership in the oil and gas rights for different horizontal layers, or strata, may be further divided and sold to different parties. In some states, severed mineral rights revert to the landowner if the mineral right not excersized for a certain time period.[2]"

One would hope that Deeds for Surface Rights have these encumbrances clearly noted on the Title.

The railroad got fifty million acres of land. Nice eh? The so called split estate, where the railroad, BLM or corporation owns the minerals under your land amounts to many millions of acres across the southwest.

The railroad land grants were rife with pork barrel politics and fraud. Actions committed in order to evade the provisions of the land grant, or to defraud the government, the public, and/or railroad shareholders, included:

Bribery of federal and local officials.
Threats and violence against officials, competitors, settlers, and jury members.
Hiring dummy entrymen to evade the public sale provisions of the land grants.
Stock watering (selling more stock than the corporation is worth) and other forms of financial manipulation and fraud.
              Illegal bankruptcy proceedings.
              False advertising in land sales.
Diverting construction funds to real estate and non-rail ventures.
Discriminatory rail rates which discriminated against farmers and other small shippers.
Price-fixing, illegal kickbacks, and other sweetheart deals with interlocked corporations.
Failure to survey and patent grant lands in order to evade property taxes.
Holding of grant lands for real estate speculation and other non-rail purposes.
Stealing timber from adjacent public lands.
Poor rail service and abandonment of branch lines.
              Monopolistic agribusiness practices: railroads controlled…

Patriot Panels and Freedom Volts: Don’t Tread On Me!
        Jan 14 2016

"The Nevada state government has just ruined solar energy in their state. From here,

Although Nevada is one of the sunniest places in the world, there has recently been a dark cloud hovering over the rooftop solar industry in the state. Just before Christmas, Nevada’s public utility commission (PUC) gave the state’s only power company, NV Energy, permission to charge higher rates and fees to solar panel users – a move that immediately shattered the rooftop solar industry’s business model.

In addition to the new monthly fee, … customers … will get less back from the utility for energy their solar panels capture and feed into the main power grid. Whereas previously they received full retail value for their surplus electricity, soon NV Energy will only pay a third of that price for exported electricity."
