The Emperor’s New Clothes, by Hans Christian Anderson
http://deoxy.org/emperors.htm
Once upon a time there lived a vain Emperor whose only worry in life was to dress in elegant clothes. He changed clothes almost every hour and loved to show them off to his people.
Word of the Emperor’s refined habits spread over his kingdom and beyond. Two scoundrels who had heard of the Emperor’s vanity decided to take advantage of it. They introduced themselves at the gates of the palace with a scheme in mind.
“We are two very good tailors and after many years of research we have invented an extraordinary method to weave a cloth so light and fine that it looks invisible. As a matter of fact it is invisible to anyone who is too stupid and incompetent to appreciate its quality.”
The entire nuclear industry, and especially the children in Fukushima facing the “authorities” brings to mind this simple tale.

Kakehashi to Chernobyl
[Hokkaido]
Representative: Ms. Mika Noro For 14 years a home-stay program has invited to Japan children from the Republic of Belarus who have suffered from the effects of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident in the former Soviet Union. Volunteers from Hokkaido cities such as Sapporo, Otaru and Ishikari, as well as from Ibaraki and Fukushima prefectures, have welcomed the children into their family.
The project goes beyond just recuperation for the children; through everyday interactions, both the children and their hosts experience meaningful exchanges that transcend differences in language and culture.
Kakehashi to Chernobyl aims not only to support those affected by the accident but also to nurture deep understanding between the people of Belarus and Japan. Among the 552 children who have participated in their home-stay program, those with a particular interest in Japan have been invited back to study the Japanese language and culture.
In addition, the organization offers Russian language lessons for the Japanese volunteers, carries out study tours to Belarus, and coordinates performances by Japanese theater groups in Belarus.

Japanese Researcher: Recriticality in July and August? (UPDATED)
“I think there was a recriticality in which the melted fuel started a chain reaction again in one of the reactors at Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant, and that the largest amount of radioactive materials since April was released from the plant. It may have happened twice. The first was between July 28 and 31. The second was between August 19 and 21. That the large amount of radioactive materials were released can be clearly seen in the radiation survey data in Tokyo and Yokohama City, where it is suspected that the announced radiation levels are lower than the actual levels. So it’s a scientific fact.”

Adjournment speech – Fukushima 6 months on – Australia’s Nuclear Free Alliance
Speech | Spokesperson Scott Ludlam
Wednesday 14th September 2011, 9:24am
‘A scar on the public perception’, as though we are just seeing it wrong and the industry has some kind of image problem-that all it needs to do is fix up people’s perception of it and everything will be okay. It shows the magnitude of the disconnect, the dissonance, that exists in the minds of the strongest advocates of the industry. All they need to do is somehow just fix up the image of the industry and everything is going to be fine.
I think we will be hearing a lot more of that on the part of the nuclear industry and its supporters in government. The Australian Uranium Association says more facts and better public education will help address nuclear fears that Fukushima has helped fan, as though that accident has somehow caused unnecessary alarm and some kind of radiation phobia.

Report Comment
I think you hit on an important point StillJill. The nuke industry has survived the PR disasters of Chernobyl, TMI, etc, because when contamination is diffused, the full and (deadly) effects are sometimes not seen for years, and then hard to trace back to the source.
Japan, until now, has been favored by winds blowing and dispersing the contamination over the Pacific (the Great Oceanic Dumpster)and on to North America. Though eventually we will all pay a horrific price, the immediate disaster was seen to be limited to Fukushima prefecture. Hence, easier to coverup, and harder to arouse/alert the Japanese people or other countries to demand action. (though at this point, with 3 simultaneous meltdowns/meltouts, it is debatable if anything can even be done).
With Tokyo soon to be evacuated, and the economic implications of that, the coverup will soon be unsustainable. What comes in the wake of that,- all bets are off. But you can be sure the elite have already made preparations to protect and defend themselves.
I think to all regular readers of enenews since the beginning of this disaster, we knew Tokyo was toast in the first 2 weeks.
Report Comment
Very well said.
Report Comment
Agreed. However, I feel the words diffuse or disperse are somewhat misleading. It does not actually ‘go away’, it simply SPREADS.
With a single release or blast the spread effect does weaken with distance, but whatever it touches is then contaminated for the duration of the ionized radiation’s ‘Hazardous to Life’ time span.
(half-life decay rate x 10)=’Hazardous to Life’
With accumulation factored in, as is our current situation… well, you get the picture. It SPREADS and ACCUMULATES.
How much radiation is harmful to ANY living creature? That’s the real question. Fallout will affect us either directly or indirectly. No doubt!!!

Just a side-note…
The tents they are putting up over them are to protect the local workers ONLY! They WILL be starting the exaust pumps up and pushing the stuff out the “STACKS” once they are built over… this means NO, NADA, NOTHING of the current output of toxic radioactives from the pools, and busted containments will be decreased! FACT, it will allow it to better spread FARTHER from the site of the meltdown!
Report Comment
Stacks to spread radioactive plume…
This reminds me of Auschwitz Death camps – loft the stench away from ground zero.
Report Comment
It’s far worse, Darth. It isn’t a stench the Japanese are sending far from Fukushima, it’s death. The tent channeling the radioactive material into exhaust stacks means more radiation being transported to the far reaches of Japan and to North America. The only thing these nuclear industry idiots know to do with their poisons is to send them someplace else. Or to dilute them in hopes that the radiation levels can be made low enough that they’ll cause “no immediate threat to human health”. Now regarding any long term threats to human health – they’re counting on everyone forgetting about those.
Report Comment
They will be too sick to do anything soon !

That’s the theory anyway… But mother nature has a way of disrupting the best laid schemes of desperate men. Down drafts, inland winds, typhoons, circulating Honshu winds… Those may make the tent stacks theory of moving it eastward look not so perfect. We will see… Proximity disfavors Japan greatly and contaminated water is not going to immediately soar through the Pacific to kill Hawaiians…the Japanese will have a severe toxic seafood crisis forever. Sushi from the east coast of Japan anyone?

Dear Mica: Thank you for your perspective. It’s interesting and I tend to believe it that people from the U.S. and other places, not that there are that many tourists as a percentage of our population (U.S.) are deciding not to travel to Japan. It pisses me off a bit that these people who would decide to not travel to Japan are well informed enough to make that decision but still aren’t riled enough, which we need RILED, to make revolution based on that knowledge, at least not that we can so far see. Too many people going along to get along and not enough pulling out the guillotines, which is necessary at this time. I’m not sure, and you’re not saying this–you just sparked me to consider what I’m saying here, that people are wise enough as a general public worldview about Fukushima yet to realize that there is NO place to hide, run or be safe from THIS event and that this event is a revolution sparking CATACLYSM and not just a bad thing happening to an interesting non-European dominated nation of non-native English speakers–despite the 11 years, on average, of English that Japanese grade-school students get.

It is intriguing how Jayalalithaa can assert nukes are safe when a little to the north of Tamilnadu in West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee has been attributed to the policy of no nukes in West Bengal. With one parliament for the country, if anything this dichotomy must be eliminated by Tamilnadu following the example set by West Bengal. Similarly every other State in India and the world must rid itself of the menace of extinction of life posed by nuclear programs anywhere in the world. The cumulative effects of inhuman modern civilization are having their toll totally unacceptable to life-Witness the ongoing criticality and increasing radioactivity of the world for the next at least two hundred fifty thousand years by Fukushima multiple meltdowns and meltthroughs and extinction level events.

Fukushima evacuees visit homes in no-go zone:
..”A 66-year-old man returned with his wife from Chiba Prefecture near Tokyo. He said he had borrowed a truck from an acquaintance so he could get his bed.” …
He could get his irradiated bed from the no-go zone to sleep in from now on? How can the officials allow this???

Noda to emphasize continuing need for nuclear plants in Japan at U.N.
“Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda is set to emphasize the continuing need for nuclear power plants in Japan and will pledge to ensure the highest level of operational safety during an upcoming U.N. conference, according to a draft of his speech obtained by Kyodo News on Sunday.
Noda will adopt a different position to that of his predecessor Naoto Kan, who sought to reduce the country’s reliance on nuclear power in the wake of the crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant.
According to the draft, Noda will tell a session of the U.N. high-level meeting on nuclear safety and security on Thursday that his government will ”raise the safety of nuclear plants to the highest level.”

I feel sorry for Naoto Kan. He couldn’t cope with the crisis, but at least he wanted Japan to abandon nukes. That’s why the political elite families (which he was no part of) wanted to get rid of him.
Well done.

“Possibility of evacuating parts of Tokyo can no longer be ignored”
But they will be ignored because
If japan admits that the current levels are enough to evacuate tokyo,
What would that mean for the canadian and united states west coast…
Which saw twice the level of fallout as tokyo…
Dont you get it…
Tokyo is small potatoes…
Think hollywood gone seattle gone, BC gone, grand canyon gone, nome gone, anchorage gone, portland gone, san fran gone… ECT…
If they tell tokyo the truth, its only a matter of time that the big picture makes way.
This is only the beginning of the bad news to come…
(note to self buy pitchforks while you can). Once the Real rad. levels get out.
Your going to need one…

***The Long-term Impacts of Fukushima on Hotels & Tourism Worldwide
By Steven Ferry, Chairman, International Institute of Modern Butlers
Is it or isn’t it?
Fukushima.
Is it a non-issue for all but those living around the Fukushima Daiichi power plant, as governments and obliging media have been saying; or are the meltdowns spreading invisible tentacles of radioactive death around the world, as some are insisting and others are wondering, a sense of unease at our prospects for the future. How, then, would these tentacles impact hotels and tourist destinations as news radiated into the consumer consciousness and people changed their eating and travel habits?
Well, sorry to disappoint those who like a good drama to chew on, but the government and officials happen to be right on this one, once the science is understood.
PR mishandlings have resulted in (mostly unnecessary) loss of hospitality business in Fukushima and surrounding areas, including Tokyo; but no impact has been felt in other countries (with one exception, which has seen a big pick- up in business); and no future impact is to be expected from the feared-by-some collapse of all living systems.
If you had doubts about which way it would go, read on, put them to rest: There are enough real issues in life without being distracted by invented ones.

Milking Sacred Cows | By Steven Ferry another classic from 2007
“Take for instance, the issue of global warming and pollution hitting the headlines of late. The worldwide focus is on greenhouse gases (CO2), diverting attention from issues such as disposing of petroleum-based plastic trash (that does not break down, whereas soy- and corn-based plastics do); or discovering ways to neutralize radioactive nuclear waste”

I’ve written a critique with references of the absurd claims based on faulty data found in this article.
