Bloomberg, Nov.1, 2013: […] Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is being told by his own party that Japan’s response is failing. Plant operator [Tepco] alone isn’t up to the task of managing the cleanup and decommissioning of the atomic station in Fukushima. That’s the view of Tadamori Oshima, head of a task force in charge of Fukushima’s recovery and former vice president of Abe’s Liberal Democratic Party. […] [There’s] a growing recognition that the government needs to take charge at the Fukushima station […] “If we allow the situation to continue, it’ll never be resolved” [said Sumio Mabuchi, a government point man on crisis in 2011].

ABC News Radio, Oct. 31, 2013 (At 2:00 in):

Prue Bentley, host: How long do you think they have to undertake these measures [at Unit 4]?

Richard Broinowski, adjunct professor at University of Sydney, Australia’s former ambassador to South Korea, Mexico and several other countries: It’s not a matter of how long. There’s no length involved in this particular accident. It’s going to go on almost to infinity I’m afraid. It’s a matter of getting [the fuel rods] out in the safest way possible. And while they remain there in this perilously unsafe and unstable cooling pool, there’s always the danger of an earthquake knocking the thing over […] so the sooner they do it the better. But there’s no sort of deadline, it’s just a matter of trying to keep your fingers crossed, and have them taken out and somehow brought to earth and contained somewhere before another disaster strikes.

    “Japan’s response is failing”

    Ya think?

Aha….. the truth is out, maybe? But will he listen, will anyone in charge listen….or is he like everyone else over there in power going to put their heads in the sand and hope that no one notices what is really going on?

Right since day one…..this was an act of god accident coupled with mans failure to maintain these beasts.
The SHTF in less than 10 minutes after the quake…the tsunami is moot, as at this point all the coolant pipes were broken…..the diesels would have made zero difference. The buildings moved hundreds of centimeters from the get go.
They never had to lie ,cover up and mislead, makes them look guilty.

Had they accepted help right from the start as it should be a gimme….they decided to allow Pandoras Box to be blasted wide open.

    There are no answers now.

Take out the SFP4,3,2,1 contents and they will screw up….probably on day one.
Expect smoke, fire and intense radiation when they do.

I remember just after the earthquake when the plants had no power and they were pulling batteries out of their cars to try to restore control. I knew then the #&$* was hitting the fan…
I also think I remember the Japanese government denying Tepco's request for batteries?

I just thought…. shit…. that thing is going to melt down if they don't have enough batteries? Really?

lol @ rnix & remember this….. so true.

Pick your country, Fukushima can happen anywhere.

Great Stuff & popcorn packing? genius! haha!
I would like to add maybe some…… Fix a Flat, Gaff Tape, & Photoshop CS6 to the mix. Problem solved!

    • HoTaters HoTaters

Photoshop fixed the crack along the side wall or floor of Reactor 2, and it held up darned well for all those photo ops with Tepco personnel. Gee, it should fix the problems where they've found those cracks around Reactor 4, too. And let's not forget those pesky cracks in the 400 foot tall cooling tower. Photoshop to the rescue!

    – – – Bonehead Politician ALERT – – – –

Japan's response isn't "failing", it FAILED from day ONE!
Everything that has been done after the first day has created a BIGGER PROBLEM!

If anyone thinks that something can be done to save this mess from spiraling out of control…only PROVES that they are in a coma and haven't been following this expanding catastrophe.

All those that just found out that this REALLY IS A PROBLEM, after two and one half years of having it unfold….shouldn't worry because the radiation has circled the globe countless times and affected billions of sea creatures, crops, animals, and people for a long time now.

Better create that "Bucket List" real soon!
