Kobe beef found to be imported illegally
Dec 28, 2011
The luxurious Kobe beef that has been offered in Vietnam in the past few years has in fact been illegally imported without passing any quarantine check, officials said.
Vu Ngoc Anh, deputy head of the General Customs Department, told Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper that local customers had been duped into thinking in that they had consumed the real Kobe beef.
Anh said importers had declared with customs authorities that their products were just ordinary beef temporarily imported to be re-exported instead of Kobe beef to pass customs clearance.
The meat is then sold to restaurants which claim it is Kobe beef to deceive customers, Anh said.
“What has been served to customers is probably imported from …

Green Party of the United States Platform 2010
as adopted by the Green National Committee
“C. Nuclear Issues
• “The Green Party recognizes that there is no such thing as nuclear waste “disposal.” All six of the “low-level” nuclear waste dumps in the United States have leaked. There are no technological quick fixes that can effectively isolate nuclear waste from the biosphere for the duration of its hazardous life. Therefore, it is essential that generation of additional nuclear wastes be stopped.
• “The Green Party calls for the early retirement of nuclear power reactors as soon as possible (in no more than five years), and for a phase-out of other technologies that use or produce nuclear waste. These technologies include non-commercial nuclear reactors, reprocessing facilities, nuclear waste incinerators, food irradiators, and all commercial and military uses of depleted uranium.
• Current methods of underground storage are a danger to present and future generations. Any nuclear waste management strategies must be above ground, continuously monitored, and they must minimize transportation of wastes.
• The Green Party strongly opposes any shipment of high-level nuclear waste across the to the proposed Nevada waste repository at Yucca Mountain, or any other centralized facility. The Green Party believes that this proposal is part of a move to re-fire a fast-track, commercial nuclear industry by providing a means for “safe disposal.” We deny there is such a thing as safe disposal of nuclear waste.
“We propose making spent reactor fuel and other high level wastes safer by vitrification at the site where it is produced or now stored.
• We call for cancellation of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant, the nation’s first weapons complex nuclear dump in southern New Mexico.
• We call for independent, public-access radiation monitoring at all nuclear facilities
• We support applicable environmental impact statements and National Environmental Policy Act…

What do you know about nuclear fracking? Do you approve of nuclear fracking?
What do you know about an Aug. 19, 2009 nuclear blast? Do you approve of the US use of nuclear blasts in the Mississippi basin?
Transmutation on the Ocean Bottom
June 20, 2011
“With the large releases of methane under the Gulf of Mexico by deep drilling and nuclear fracking of the basalt plain large quantities of methane ice have piled up on the bottom. Given time the bacteria will eat all the methane keeping the Gulf deep waters cool and making a lot of fish food. The use of Corexit emulsifier sinking the red coloured petroleum to the bottom will in time be transmuted by the bacteria.
“The radioactivity in the petroleum, fall-out from the August 19 2009 nuclear blast 10 kilometres under the alluvial fan of the Mississippi will also be transmuted by the bacteria. In biological systems radioactivity drops fifteen times faster than in a test tube.
“The practise of the US Navy to drop decommissioned nuclear reactors in the ocean depths may be the best solution for long term elimination of such materials. The bacteria eats the iron into “rusticles” as seen on the Titanic at 10,000 feet deep and transmutes toxic radioactive elements fifteen times faster than in underground bunkers….”

America’s farmlands to be carpet-bombed with Vietnam-era Agent Orange chemical if Dow petition approved
Dec 27, 2011
(NaturalNews) A key chemical of one of the most horrifying elements of the Vietnam War — Agent Orange — may soon be unleashed on America’s farmlands. Considered by world nations to be a “Weapon of Mass Destruction” (WMD), Agent Orange was dropped in the millions of gallons on civilian populations during the Vietnam War in order to destroy foliage and poison North Vietnamese soldiers. The former president of the Vietnamese Red Cross, Professor Nhan, described it as, “…a massive violation of human rights of the civilian population, and a weapon of mass destruction.”
A key chemical in that weapon — 2,4-D — is just months away from being dropped on agricultural land across the United States. Dow AgroSciences, which along with …

US Nuclear Renaissance unlikely after Fukushima:
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/money_co/2011/12/a-new-study-released-today-said-that-theregulatory-fallout-from-the-fukushima-power-plantdisaster-in-japan-last-marchwill-pro.html
A new study released Wednesday said that the regulatory fallout from the Fukushima power plant disaster in Japan in March will short-circuit the U.S. nuclear renaissance of new power plant construction.
The report, “Nuclear Safety and Nuclear Economics,” was written and presented by Mark Cooper, a frequent critic of the nuclear power industry. The report can be found here. Cooper is a senior fellow for economic analysis at the Institute for Energy and the Environment at the Vermont Law School.
Cooper said that past nuclear disasters, such as the one at the Three Mile Island power plant in Pennsylvania in 1979, have tended to greatly raise regulatory barriers and have also severely multiplied the cost of reactor construction. After Three Mile Island, for example, the report said, the cost of nuclear power plant construction doubled in most cases and trebled or quadrupled in some rare instances.
Report Comment
I think the cost of a plant should be lowered – we don’t need all that stupid containment structure. It obviously does not work.
We don’t need an EPA or and NRC – they don’t work.
I only demand one thing, and I will lobby to get it.
I think every nuclear power plant needs to purchase a pre-paid insurance policy that will handle the entire relocation, cleanup and restitution necessary if the plant fails – for any reason. And this can’t be some sham insurance – a real policy from a real company.
If they can get insurance – they run. If not, they close.

Experts: U.S. Nuclear Power Faces Higher Costs, Continued Major Challenges in 2012
Give Long-Term Uncontrollable Costs and Short-Term Pressure from Needed Post-Fukushima Safety Regulations, Nuclear Reactors Even Less Able to Take on Natural Gas, Other Alternatives
“Before Fukushima, the mythical ‘nuclear renaissance’ had already proven to be a bubble with the air rapidly leaking out of it. Fukushima will make it even more difficult to inflate. Fukushima is magnifying the economic problems that the ‘nuclear renaissance’ faced, which are the very problems that that have plagued nuclear power throughout its history. Nuclear power suffered from high cost and continuous cost escalation, high risk and uncertainty long before Fukushima. The nuclear reactor disaster at Fukushima will increase the cost and further undermine the economic viability of nuclear power in any country that conducts such a review. The Japanese government has recently estimated that the cost of power from nuclear reactors will be 50 percent higher than estimated seven years ago. My analysis shows this increase is consistent with the impact of Three Mile Island and Chernobyl.”
“Carol Werner, executive director, Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI), said:
“While nuclear energy still enjoys considerable support from the Congress and very significant subsidies, escalating costs for new construction, and uncertainty over adequacy of safety design and compliance following the August earthquake in Virginia, have not fostered realization of the ‘so-called’ nuclear renaissance. There simply are too many other choices which provide greater certainty at lesser cost and without the enormous long-term unresolved problems and risks facing nuclear power.”…
“For decades, the nuclear industry has been plagued by:
* Failure of voluntary, self-regulation;
* Denial of the reality of risk;
* Lack of safety culture;
Report Comment
[cont.]
* Lack of a comprehensive, consistent regulatory framework;
* The challenge of continuous change and the need to retrofit existing reactors;
* Failure to resolve important outstanding safety issues;
* Failure to require existing reactors to add safety measures because of cost; and
* Complexity, confusion and chaos in the response to a severe accident….
* “ Major policy reviews by governments have led several nations to decide to scale back or abandon their commitments to nuclear power (including important large industrial national like Japan and Germany);
* “Financial institutions have conducted extensive reassessments of the economic prospects of nuclear power and concluded that the costs will rise (e.g. USB);
* “Utilities with nuclear plants in several nations have been downgraded by rating agencies; and
*” Several major firms in advanced industrial nations have abandoned the sector or been forced to scale back their activities (e.g., Shaw Group, Siemens and Areva).
“As the Cooper paper concludes: ‘As all stakeholders re-examine all aspect of energy policy, the risks of nuclear reactors increase and the attractiveness of nuclear power compared to other options decreases.’”
