    The more I read news from Fukushima, the more I appreciate the effort taken at Chernobyl with far less tech. And that wasn’t enough either. 9 months post the accident, there still is no clear news on scientists being actively involved in managing proceedings.

    The old documentaries of Chernobyl outline the highly risky search the scientists undertook for the molten cores – with a sense of urgency. If, as the nuclear pimps insist Fukushima is a “lesser” disaster (if there is such a thing), I can’t understand why there are no scientists on site trying to figure out the situation instead of publicity stunts like “cold shutdown”. Surely the equipment and protection available now is better than then – particularly in Japan.

    See one big-ass problem with the “passive” system. Lots of steam will either be vented to the atmosphere if a pipe breaks, or the water won’t be flowing. I think I remember something about the whole industrial revolution started with a steam engine because of water flowing down into coal mines. Steam pump was what took it back uphill. The circle might complete. Just saying…..thoughts?

      One guy on the show did not think the radiation from Japan was a problem for the USA or people. Reckon he is thinking in a greater amounts mindset, and not so in the way most of us do here on a CPM or uSv/hr level.

    During past 24 hours, there have been 10 earthquakes off Fukushima / Miyagi coast. I know I’m a bit freaked out at the moment over the whole EQ thing….forgive me.

      BandB.. are you also noticing how the “super volcanoes” calderas are having correlating seismic activity.. and not necessarily the ones that are in close proximity to one another.. then we have the Russian plate moving too.. then the polar ice caps are melting like crazy.. oh boy.. Sure starting to seem like Mother Earth is gonna open a big can of whoop ass! ..maybe even soon.

        Watch the solar activity. Many events are timed to the sun’s uppityness and after it goes off in any direction. Approaching high solar maxes and new record setting activity ahead. Could be devastatingly interesting. Talk about radiation!

        Funny how the whoooooole world and EVERYTHING in it revolves around the Sun. Or, what effects the WHOOOOOOLE dang universe, you, everything, your attitudes, and where are your HIGHEST priorities?

    Start of a fire in decontamination machine of former nuclear manufacturing plant of Bosco Marengo (AL) under decommissioning.

    On December 22nd 2011 Sogin S.p.A, which operates the former plant Fabbricazioni Nucleari of Bosco Marengo (AL) currently under decommissioning, communicated to ISPRA (Institute for Environmental Protection and Research)-which perform the functions of Nuclear Safety Authority- an anomalous event related to the decontamination machine by “shot blasting” located inside the plant occurred at 9:25 am local time. The machine is used to treat solid materials with very low contamination, resulting from the dismantling activities, in order to be cleared from the plant….

    ….Additional verification are in progress, including internal contamination of plant personnel.
    From the beginning of the event ARPA Piemonte (The Regional Agency for the Protection of the Environment of Piedmont region), operating in continuous connection with ISPRA, intervened to monitor environmental radiation contamination. Data from ARPA Piemonte indicates that the concentration of alfa and beta total activity measured in atmospheric particle samples inside and outside the plant are comparable with environmental background values normally found.
    Further investigations are in progress by the operator. ISPRA requested a detail report of the event, including corrected measures to be adopted in order to restart the machine operation. An inspection on the site has been also performed.

    LACEY — Federal regulators have agreed to a request by environmentalists to review General Electric Mark 1 reactors, which is the type used at the Oyster Creek Generating Station.

    A safety panel for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission posted notice Monday on its website, called the Federal Register, that it has accepted a request by three environmental groups, including 8,000 petitioners, to review whether approvals by the federal agency for venting systems at General Electric Mark I reactors should be revoked.

    The reactor is also the same type that was in operation at the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan, which suffered a meltdown and fire last March.

Leaks were discovered in a steam trap, the high-pressure coolant injection system and in three of the plant’s four safety relief valves…”

    didd the poster who posted the 0.76 microsievert/hr happen to be samsung by any chance??

    hes been posting all over the thread and i wondered if he was the source of the radioactive seaweed.. its been posted at fukushima diary and it would be nice to give Mochizuki a heads up!!

    cant find that post on search or manually!! need to confirm before telling him!!

    odd i remember asking him some questions that were not answered, nor did he post on the rad forum where we might have been adle to prove his claims…. ACRO work in south korea, theve tested samples from there.. think they would pay the air fare for that packet… did mention testing too and no reply??

    This may be bogus, or not that new from our earlier discussions about the ~~wall~~ on #4. but I heard about an hour ago, on the Mike Malloy Show that ‘that’ wall had collapsed completely, so it wouldn’t be long before the whole #4 collapses.

    As I say, I don’t know if this is hype, bogus, or what.

    Anyone else hear anything on this? Can’t find it on the usual threads.
