Evidence that Electromagnetic Radiation is Genotoxic: The implications for the epidemiology of cancer and cardiac, neurological and reproductive effects

“…Substances that damage cellular genetic material, such as DNA and chromosomes, are called "genotoxic". Genotoxic substances cause cancer, reproductive health effects and neurological damage. Chromosome aberrations are visible through powerful microscopes. Chromosomes are formed from folded segments of DNA. Damage to chromosomes is therefore evidence of damage to DNA.

“DNA is frequently damaged by natural processes, such as oxygen free radicals. Gey (1993) comments that free radicals may be involved in the etiology of cancer and cardiovascular diseases. In epidemiological studies poor plasma levels of antioxidants (free radical scavengers) are associated with increased relative risks of cancer and ischemic heart disease. Cells have elaborate DNA repair mechanisms because DNA stability is vital for species survival. Uncorrected DNA damage is mutation, Alberts et al. (1994). Alberts et al. outline many DNA repair mechanisms, including Repair Enzymes. They also outline the way apoptosis can digest and destroy damaged cells by internal "programming" of the process. The Immune System has B lymphocytes that produce antibody proteins to protect against 'foreign' cells, such as mutated cells.

Natural Killer (NK) cells kill some types of tumours and some virus-infected cells, Alberts et al.

“Enhanced DNA strand breakage leads to enhanced DNA repair. Hence enhanced DNA repair rates are also used as evidence of DNA damage, Meltz (1995).

“Many studies have shown that radiofrequency/microwave (RF/MW) radiation and extremely low frequency (ELF) fields cause increased DNA strand breakage and chromosome aberrations. This has been shown in cell lines, human blood, animals and living human beings. This means that epidemiological studies of people exposed to electromagnetic radiation (EMR) are likely to show increased cancer, miscarriage and reproductive adverse effects. In fact many epidemiological studies have shown these effects, Goldsmith (1995, 1996, 1997, 1997a), Szmigielski (1991, 1996).

“Two plausible biological mechanisms involving free radicals are involved in this effect. The first involves increased free radical activity and genetic damage as a response to exposure. The second involves increased free radical activity and genetic damage because of an induced reduction of a free radical scavenger, e.g. reduced melatonin, Reiter (1994).

It is clear however, that both mechanisms have the same effect of damaging the DNA and chromosomes. Another established biological mechanism, EMR-induced alteration of cellular calcium ion homeostasis, Blackman (1990), is also involved in cell regulation, cell survival and apoptosis, DNA synthesis and melatonin regulation. …”

My clients here in the midwest have complained of GI and flu like symptoms, and one client, exposed to massive radiation in Afghanistan while in the US military, reported cadiac pain, only to discover he is reportedly had 20 or more minor heart attacks, and a hole in his heart. he was not wounded by du ammunition or any other ammunition. he simply walked the land for months. He also works outside a great deal as a cement and foundation contractor, and last summer, complained of skin and energy and cardiac symptoms mentioned in this thread. i recommended he consult with his medical practitiioners and enquire as to low dose radiation poisoning. There is a huge issue with returning military, and the unexplored radical excessive waste and exposure in the continent of Africa's jungles will be the issues of the next decade as well. Meanwhile, remember that exposure is not the same as internal contamination.
Exposure can develop into cancers in 6 to 30 years in adult, but internal contamination (swallowing through foodchain or breathing hot particiles in the air) can kill in days, weeks, or months. Miserable way to go.
The medical community has turned a blind eye. Hey, you got a tumor here; let me irradiate you…and then the patient later dies of what? another cancer. let's wake up.

The light of truth never dims, never blinks and will always shine as bright as the Sun.
We have known since the sixties, the effects of low level radiation on all life. There is NO safe dose!
The data has been collected, long ago. The research has been done, long ago. The information was presented to the world, long ago.
No one listened. No one took notice. They only took cash.
Now, the piper has come for payment. The masses will pay with their loved ones lives. The result always equals the sum of the parts.

Dental X-rays Linked to Twofold Increase in Brain Cancer

…records of 1,433 patients who were diagnosed with meningioma between May 2006 and April 2011. The researchers made a control group matched for sex, age, and geography.
Researchers found that bitewing X-rays (showing upper and lower back teeth) performed less than once per year was associated with patients being 1.1 to 1.6 times more likely to experience meningioma across age groups.
They also found that annual or more frequent panorex dental X-ray (an X-ray showing all teeth and surrounding bones) exposure increased odds by 2.7 to 3.0 in 3 of the oldest age groups, while x-rays performed “before age 10 was associated with a meningioma odds ratio of 4.9.”…

…agreed! So for goodness sake let's urge Chris Busby, Helen Caldecott and other unbiased medical experts to critique yesterday's reports (out of FRANCE!!) that one-in-six cancers are due to "infection".

If this idea is accepted by the mainstream media uncritically, next we will hear how it's because doctors are prescribing too many antibiotics (true!) and because the baceria are becoming resistant to the antibiotics (true!) and because people indulge in unsafe behaviours, that can lead to genital, oral and other cancers (from e.g. herpes virus).

But we now have the spectre of huge populations sufering mild immune system weakness due to the FUKU surge in man-made radioactivity. Don't let these cancer doctors fool us into thinking that chronic INTERNAL+external irradiation will not cause a spike in these ostensibly "infection-related" cancers.

The Fukushima-induced mild immunodeficiency throughout the northern hemisphere can reasonably be expected over coming years and decades to cause a measureable increase in the incidence of these so-called "infection-related" cancers.

Cell Damage Expressed as a Health Problem

"The USA has been polluted with nuclear industries since 1943 and with radioactive iodine from weapon testing since 1951. Radioactive iodine is routinely released in small quantities by nuclear power plants and in large quantities by nuclear reprocessing plants. It is not part of the natural human environment. The connection between this pollution and the overweight problem has, unfortunately, never been seriously researched. There is no evidence to confirm or deny the hypothesis, but weight increase is a well-known biological response to radioactive iodine. The hypothesis is certainly plausible under the circumstances….

New study on DNA mutations, linked to breast cancer:
    http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/05/17/us-cancer-breast-genetics-idUSBRE84G0XT20120517
"We've known for many years now that all cancers are due to abnormalities of DNA…that occur in every single cell of the body over the course of a lifetime," said Stratton.

"But although we've known that, it's remarkable how rudimentary our knowledge is about what the processes are that cause these abnormalities, these mutations in our DNA."

Stratton's team sequenced the genomes of the 21 breast cancers and catalogued all the mutations. They found five major processes that cause one letter of code to be changed to another letter. Genetic code comes in four DNA letters, A,C,G and T.

Stratton said one of the most exciting findings was that one of these processes is characterized by small pockets of massively mutated regions of the genome.

This sudden "storm" of mutations is often seen in breast cancers, he explained in an audio briefing.

Effect of low level radioactive nano particle on the weather

It is my observation that following the 311 event the weather has been profoundly altered. The Fukushima power plants continue to spew huge amounts of radioactive nano particles into the atmosphere. They are of course invisible to the naked eye and behave, due their small size, as gas would. Prevailing surface winds and the jet-stream circulate the nano particles world wide, effecting the weather patterns globally.

Ironically, it is not carbon dioxide production, but nuclear industry products that is now responsible for weather conditions presently experienced throughout CONUS. These highly charged heavy metal nano particles are now airborne and act as a plasma like soup that is being influenced by electromagnetic solar and man made scalar wave forms.

All the aerial spraying in the world could not have hoped to produce conditions now present. Fukushima has presented such an opportunity for catastrophic weather events to unfold based upon Solar electron-magnetic activity and events.

This is now spun out of all anthropogenic control. I fear for the planets food supply. I predict weather related food shortages to drive prices up the flag pole.

X-rays are forms of radiant energy, like light or radio waves. Unlike light, x-rays can penetrate the body, which allows a radiologist to produce pictures of internal structures.

The scientific unit of measurement for radiation dose, commonly referred to as effective dose, is the millisievert (mSv).

According to recent estimates, the average person in the U.S. receives an effective dose of about 3 mSv per year from naturally occurring radioactive materials and cosmic radiation from outer space.

    Nano Particle Concerns

As readers of ENEnews who follow my posts know, I have focused my attention on nano particles. Due to our distance from Fukushima, nano particles is primarily our concern on CONUS. The majority of larger particles "fallout" closer to their point of origin. This of course does not apply to micron size particles from Fukushima that arrive here attached to floating dust, objects or within fish, or imported food products.

Due to its extremely small size nano particles are able to travel with great speed through the environment and human tissue. If they are encased in carbon (Fukushima Buckey ball cages) their abilities are enhanced.

"In approximately 1 hour we breath in 12 billion nanoparticles from the background in environment (i.e. there are approximately 50,000 nanoparticle per cm3 of air). Many of these background particles may be radioactive." – L. Scott Walker, "An Overview of Current and Propose Radioactive Nano- Particle Creation and Use",
    Los Alamos National Laboratory
    03/17/08

Nano sized radioactive particles are heavy metal particulate. They maintain the toxic characteristics and behavior of heavy metals. Small size enables nano particles to be absorbed by the human skin upon contact and travel freely about the body, lodging in areas they chemically favor. PU for example chemically favor testicles, damaging human sperm. C-134 & C-137 favor heart tissue, etc.

        @majia

Hepa filters are good at removing >micron sized particles of dust that may have radioactive nano particles adhering to them.

Domestically, in your home, your goal is dust control. Reducing the dust within and dust entering your home. HEPA filters can help reduce dust of all kinds, which may be bearing radioactive nano particles from Fukushima, nuclear test sites, DU munition dust, nuclear power plants, cigarette smoke, etc.

        DUST CONTROL
Dust control is part of the practice of nuclear hygiene, a necessary addition to our lifestyle of staying alive and healthy in the post 311 world.

We are all familiar with Dental Hygiene, that if you are true to your teeth, they will not be false to you. Nuclear hygiene, like dental hygiene is vital to our well being. Just as we brush and floss daily, we must control dust and chelate daily.

De-corporation of Ingested & Absorbed Nano Particles

Through Chelation heavy metal nano particles of various elemental weights can be removed from the human body.

Tissue samples, fecal/urine analysis, blood and DNA sampling have confirmed the effectiveness of chelation to speed decorporation, by implication remove heavy metals from the human body.

Case studies using Chelation modalities in remediation of PU, U, C, I, etc. can be cited to validate effectiveness.

    Proposal & Hypothesis
In a post 311 world, in which the new environmental norm exposes the human body to a endless/constant low level exposure to heavy metal nano particulate by food, water and air pathways. It is proposed, based on this assumption of constant and ongoing ingestion, that chelation therapy be ongoing, regular, daily and constant. The therapeutic modality: Oral Chelation, due to low cost, availability, non-toxicity, and effectiveness.

      Double Blind Proof of De-corporation

Up till 2011, clinical double blind studies utilizing long term daily chelation protocols were not available. However, in 2011 to present, ongoing studies look very promising. These studies preliminarily validate my hypothesis that ongoing, regular, daily oral chelation can result in the de-corporation of heavy metal radionuclides to the point of non-detection. My work with locally available human test subjects have proven valuable, as their tissue levels of heavy metals have or are approaching levels beyond detection.

In the past, studies were discontinued short of complete de-corporation, due to financial limitations and study parameters. None of the past studies were continued to the point of non detection. In the light of present rising levels of global environmental contamination, proven effectiveness of lifelong chelation practices are extremely relevant.

  • The Medical experts have been looking at 'low dose' in the wrong way.

First of all, it's easy to tell that after 60 years and thousands of Nukes tested worldwide (land & sea) , not to mention the NPP proliferation, that what we should do is ASSUME FIRST that low dose radiation IS the cause of EVERYTHING.

    From…
    Mental Illness
    Hormone disorders
    Heart Disease
    Chronic Fatigue
    Immune Disorders
    …and Cancers

The 'bottom line' proof of this to me is the steady increase in the failing of our medical and insurance systems. A steady increase in those who should still be productive, but are disabled. A general crippling of a once great country. As if the country had been hit by a nuclear bomb and fallout. Oh wait… we have!

Now we get the slightly higher and more steady 'LOW dose'.
    (ongoing, no end in site)
I wonder what that's going to do?
More illnesses faster and sooner would be my conclusion.

“Over 1,300 fission products (as one would get from a nuclear bomb explosion) have come out of the Fukushima nuclear complex. Radioactive nano-products are highly charged and accumulate in raindrops. It is of great concern that there were unusual and intense rains for up to 10 days in California’s Los Angeles and San Francisco areas during the region’s dry season, which seemed perfectly timed to amplify the concentration of radioactivity into the water system. The radiation of I-131 in the rainwater outside San Francisco was measured at 18,100 times above allowable levels. In Pennsylvania, they are currently measuring I-131 in the water at 3,300 times above federal standards.
“The radiation that is being measured in general from the Fukushima release includes I-131, cesium 134, cesium 137, uranium 238, and xenon 133. Vietnam, which is 4,000 km away from the Fukushima reactor, is now reporting an increase in U-238 in pine needles. Radiation, in general, has been found 300 times higher in the U.S. milk supply. Nuclear radiation in Hawaiian milk has been found to be 2,033 percent higher than permissible levels.Radiation in milk has already been reported in Phoenix, Arizona; Spokane, Washington; Montpellier, Vermont; as well as in, Los Angeles, California.

Abnormally higher levels of radiation, in general, have been reported in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Niagara Falls, Denver, Detroit, Trenton, Oakridge, TN, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and Boise.

“Side effects of radiation exposure include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, fever, loss of appetite and skin damage (swelling, itching, redness and hair loss). Long-term effects show a decrease in IQ, an increase in mental illness (as fat tissues in the brain are oxidized by radiation), and cancer. The rate of mental illness, particularly depression, has also been connected to proximity to nuclear testing and depleted uranium exposure. The U.S. has the highest percentage of mental illness at 26.4 percent of the population. France is at an 18 percent depression rate and may have the most nuclear plants of any country in the world. Brain tissue is affected by radiation, which causes free radical damage of DNA and destruction of brain cell membranes.

“Radioactive uranium is particularly attracted to DNA, and so it is particularly damaging. Research is also clear that uranium particles are capable of long distance travel. Not only does I-131 affect the thyroid gland, but also breasts, ovaries, uterus and prostate, because all these organs need iodine to operate optimally. Almost all major radiation medical experts agree that there are no safe levels of radiation exposure.

“As a holistic physician looking at patterns appearing all over the globe, it would appear that increased radiation exposure from several sources, “forced” vaccinations, chem-trails, GMOs and excessive use of psychotropic drugs, especially in children, all weaken the immune system, and decrease and impair brain function….

there is a shortage of the tuberculosis vaccine Bacille Calmette-Guerin (BCG). When suitable for use for early aggressive bladder cancer, it can mean that 70pc of those patients avoid having to have their bladder surgically removed.

Worldwide there are two manufacturers of BCG, with 80pc of the UK supply coming from a plant in France, which closed its factory abruptly in June, with production not expected to resume until the end of 2013.

This has resulted in a worldwide shortage and although the smaller producer is increasing production, it cannot meet the additional demand so far.

2 Fukushima men suffer internal radiation exposure from homegrown vegetables

Two Fukushima Prefecture men in their 70s suffered a relatively high level of internal radiation exposure by consuming homegrown vegetables contaminated with radioactive cesium, a survey by the University of Tokyo's Institute of Medical Science has found.

The level of radioactivity in one of the men was close to 20,000 becquerels. Researchers said this would result in an annual radiation dose of about 0.85 millisieverts — under the government's yearly limit for radiation exposure from food of 1 millisievert per year.

Doctor Masaharu Tsubokura, who tested the men, commented, "This is not a level that would affect their health, but when people consume homegrown vegetables and other such products we would like them to undergo tests.

The men live in the town of Kawamata and the city of Nihonmatsu, respectively. Whole body counters were used to measure their internal exposure to cesium 134 and cesium 137 between July and August. The man from Kawamata had a level of radioactivity of 19,507 becquerels, while his wife had a reading of 7,724 becquerels. The man from Nihonmatsu, meanwhile, registered radioactivity of 11,191 becquerels and his wife had a level of 6,771 becquerels of radioactivity. Both couples were believed to have been exposed to radioactive cesium released during the disaster at the Fukushima No. 1 Nuclear Power Plant.

Every day, the couple in Kawamata had eaten homegrown shiitake mushrooms grown on wood from the Fukushima Prefecture town of Namie, as well as bamboo shoots from near their homes, and dried persimmon. Radioactivity of over 140,000 becquerels was found in the mushrooms. The couple from Nihonmatsu reportedly consumed vegetables given to them by the other couple.

When someone says, "oh it's only 1 Bq", remember this.
1 Bq means that there could be as many as 1,370,000,000 nanoparticles of Cs-137 on the fruits, veg or whatever you are considering eating. Appetising thought!
If anyone is interested in math…(but don't ask me many questions please)
    T/ln 2 = (365.242199 x 30.1) day * 86400 s/day / 0.69314718 = 1370363322

    RENEWING THE CELL MEMBRANE
    NOAH'S Recent Line of Research

We continue to use the three radiation remediation strategies as discussed in prior posts:

    1. Competitive Inhibition
    2. Anti-Oxidants
    3. Oral Chelators

Now focusing in on renewing the cell membranes of the human body. In a low level nuclear environment, in which we now live, it is the cell membranes of our body, including mitochondria membranes, which are under constant attack from oxidizing radioactive nano particles present in our food, water and air. Membrane disruption will lead to rapid cell disintegration, disease states and death follow.

Providing non oxidized lipids to replace the damaged, oxidized membranes is key protocol to sustaining life & energy production at optimum levels.

Ionizing radiation does affect the brain/nervous system even at low doses: http://www.iaea.org/Publications/Magazines/Bulletin/Bull034/03405800607.pdf
An older article, but worth the read.
"Among insects, it has been observed that ants behave wildly in an attempt to flee rapidly from an irradiated area into a ‘radiation-proof shelter’. In the course of observations on humans, it has been seen that even small radiation doses produce nervous over-excitability, changes in the normal reflex responses, and disturbances of the electrical currents of the brain which are measurable with an electro-encephalograph."
According to this info, if an individual gets exposed to a high dose acutely it is disorienting. This means problems for first responders in the face of a nuclear disaster.
…"presented findings concerning behavioral changes (such as distractibility and narrowing of
attention) in monkeys exposed to nuclear radiations both in the laboratory and at the Nevada Test Site…"Referring to the fact that even at very small dose levels, the central nervous system may be involved in some way without being observably damaged."
Could ionizing radiation be the reason for the plethora of small diameter nerve fiber neuropathy we are seeing now?

Why does fibro pain get worse when fatigued? Relates to mitochondria of small diameter nerve fibers?
Here is one study re: mitochondria of small diameter nerve fibers:
"This technique uses filtering and rectifying procedures to avoid phase cancellation and loss of asynchronized and temporally dispersed small fiber responses in common average procedures. New method will also apply repetitive stimulation and fatigue to evaluate small fiber function under elaborate conditions and to assess in vivo functional deficits in small diameter fibers related to mitochondrial abnormalities by depletion of energy reserves in the nerve fibers. Pretty technical language for me but I may vaguely get the gist. The study is to pin-point with greater accuracy the effects of micro-nerve damage that might develop for any number of different causes? I had to look up mitochondria and then also eukaryote! (I'm retirement age and haven't taken a biology class since 1st yr university many decades ago! I usually get by but this is too technically packed! .. :)

Wikip-: "In cell biology, a mitochondrion (plural mitochondria) is a membrane-enclosed organelle found in most eukaryotic cells…These organelles range from 0.5 to 1.0 micrometer in diameter. Mitochondria are sometimes described as "cellular power plants" because they generate most of the cell's supply of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), used as a source of chemical energy…In addition to supplying cellular energy, mitochondria are involved in a range of other processes, such as signaling, cellular differentiation, cell death, as well as the control of the cell cycle and cell growth."

I think I pretty much follow the function of mitochondria at least.

So mitochondria are within cells making up our bodies – thus also nerve fibers? And if mitochondria function is impaired, then nerve responses are also – and this can be related to tiredness and pain .. and you're linking this to radiation exposure and sickness? … makes sense to me! (??)

Maggie123, I just copied his post from another forum, so the information wouldn't be lost. I have fibromylgia, and never realized that it was probably from radiation exposure. So I am very interested in ML's posts, but didn't contribute to the dialogue.

Interesting conversation anne. The symptom of FB is very much like Bura Bura Byo, in other words, constant unshakable fatigue, pain and affects all systems. I had a suspicion but how do you prove the connection!? It's like these Japanese kids with thyroid problem aren't even recognised that they've been affected by the radiation! It's not an easy thing to have because most people will look at you and think you've got nothing wrong with you that includes some doctors!

GlowInTheDark & Anne – Glow's post caused "chronic fatigue syndrome", CFS, to pop to mind. It was a puzzle for years, denied in fact. Now I'm thinking about subtle toxins, including radioactive contaminants – drifting contaminants from open air testing. CFS didn't become an apparent "issue" until we'd had a couple of decades of post WW2 enthusiastic use of the "convenience of newly developed chemicals". A problem is that so many unnatural chemicals were in such widespread use that anything linked to weakened immune systems surely has multiple potential causes (and may likely develop from complex exposures to an assortment of toxins.) This gives industry an 'out' – "not our specific chemical at fault" they say. It's the "soup" that puts bodies in chronic "repair" mode – this should be a no-brainer!
