I checked for comparison the Tepcam view looking for smoke.
Guess what?
Verified! The smoke does appear on the Tepco cam view.
Just a little bit, but it's there!
So, it's not too far away.
At 7:05 in on the recording or 10:14:17 (hr/min/sec) on the Tepco screen timer gray/black smoke will appear from the upper left floating toward the stack on the left. It can be seen for about 10 seconds.

Watching the footage..you see at the foot of the big red crane in the middle of the screen..some work being done. And at the foot of the big stack -at the foot of the vent pipe lots of workers back and forth. At the same time, on reactor 4 top floor white coated workers rush back and forth from the red elevator to and from what looks to be the fuel pool..and in one case..carrying something heavy..then sudden fast runs back to the elevator. Others are on the far right side.still working. Hard to see..and also if you look UP at the screen, reactor 2 shows red..and the area at foot of the red crane..shows an attempt to cover up what looks like red/emission area..emissions show around the vent area as well. So the SMOKE..could it be they were working on disposing of fuel cells? Lots of people working…and still a LOT of pasted up photoshopped rectangles. For a country used to computer graphics I guess..one more game cube…

Night view, screen is jumping all over but more on the right side near R4. I can no longer see the square hole on this side of R4. TBS cam says "error occurred." That's for sure.

The first shot is the 'original/as is' followed by an 'filtered' or an 'effects applied' view. I try to capture a bird or something in the shot so you can tell it's the same screen shot.
The Microsoft Photo Editor program senses the variations and produces the effect.
To a certain degree it allows you to see what the unaided eye cannot.

I suspect that square hole on R4 has been covered with some type of dark panel. Visible emissions rising from there even in daylight. No humans in evidence so far.

Rainbow clouds over the plant? Also, something fiery is dropping, spiralling in between the two middle cranes. Maybe a drone malfunctioned? Reminds me of clouds ahead of 3/11. What do you think? The snaps need to be analyzed carefully to understand this 'light phenomenon!'

Look at the reddish plumes ahead of the 'fallout' between the cranes and rainbow clouds. Also, heads-up! The induction magnetometer is showing intense ramp up since Oct. 29, with obvious earthquake frequencies. Fallen angels or cosmic visitors?-
Recent posts about steam n' smoke, seeing rainbow clouds over Fuku and oddly lit clouds on Mt. Fuji cam, and noting a 4.5 mag quake near Mt. Fuji-Tokyo area today are worrisome. How any humans can promote nukes at this point seems blithe, blind, and barbaric. It is full moon, tides are high, and Fuku is very vulnerable to a big quake now.

It is a sun and light phenomenon. (My opinion)
The first screen shot is dramatic.
Looks like something falling from the sky on fire.
(But it's not.)
The other two dropbox links gave an error.
The video is at that 'sweet spot' time of day. Sunset and sunrise are when the light angles and humidity show us the translucent emissions.
The 'bright spot' is at about :34 seconds in on the video.
The pink clouds at the end of the video are looking ominous also.

Once again, the square hole on R4 is invisible in the night scene. I realize now the reason is that it's obscured by a stream of turbulent air or gas which causes distortion of light. Either that or it's a stream of hard rads hitting the camera.
TBS camera is still down. Has it gone the way of the Tomioka cam?

Thanks Chas'a, you're right, there's an optical illusion of a back lit cloud glow appearing to be a streak as it moves back to cloud front, although at times, the glowing shapes look like they might be between the plant and the offshore clouds! The view is through the fumarium veil of 1-2, 3 reactors with a blue green steam shadow in front of R4. The place is a MESS! Also, thanks to you for the Hope Ranch contrast pics. Every little bit helps to 'see' what's what. Nuckelchen's merry Murphy cross-check graphs are excellent to match with potential rad release sightings!

Sorry I can't pinpoint the date, but in the last two weeks or so I saw a group of workers standing in the external lift at #4 and working with a few on the "roof" they rolled down some sort of screen thing over that hole. To be honest, it looked like a large horizontal venetian blind or net. You could see through it, but it kind of smoothed out any details of what was visible.
I knew I should have posted something to the board about it, but I just didn't have the energy. Made me feel a little pathetic, considering how drained at the end of the day those workers must have felt.
It just gives me the creeps every time I see a group of them rush out and start working on something. I want to shout to them "Hey! Don't you know you're committing not-so-slow suicide? Are you sure the job they have you doing is worth it?". I mean I truly humbly appreciate their sacrifice. I just wish I could have ANY confidence in their managers applying that sacrifice to only the most critical tasks.

Just look at the stuff coming out of the top of the vent stack on the left near R1! Lots of work going on over at R4 and cranes activity. Can hardly see the top right side of R2 again due to heavy emissions .

Impressive quake again. The courage of those early workers on #4, busy doing whatever they're doing around the SFP, unfazed by the quake.
I don't know what to make of those flashes we've had?
But what about this flash of colour @02:48 which is followed by a change of the overall colour?
And yes, these missing hours are worrying and keep occuring. Ex:

hi, jackassrig, I asked the same question when the cranes did that many months ago. I commented maybe the remote operator was trying to send watchers like ene a message: "look at R1". At that time most the discussion was on R3 and on R2's mysterious "tree". I had noticed that the little black crane repeatedly circled around to R1 for no apparent reason, then went around back. I don't know anything about cranes, but I thought they could spin in place to turn around, so there would be no need for it to go to R1, where there was supposedly nothing happening, hang around out of sight, then return to the big cranes via the back of the buildings. (??) When the cranes lined up after they shut down for the day I wondered if it was a message. Just speculating of course, and "What if…". I don't know anything about reactors or cranes. Maybe that operator/tech is anally tidy when he shuts down for the day?

I believe there are people here with experience in construction who might throw some light on the question. My own theory is that the cranes are placed to make them more stable in prevailing winds. But what do I know??

…or, like the dream I had the other night. Where a small quake put stress on crane parts that had become affected due to high rad counts. The cable then snapped and the crane's arm toppled into the Spent Fuel Pool. That's when I woke up.

"The maximum total release rate of cesium (Units 1-3) is approx. 0.01 billion Bq/h with fluctuation factors taken into account, which is about 1/80,000,000 of that of right after the accident. The release rate has been below this value since February."
Assuming short billion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_and_short_scales) this would be 10^9 or Giga:
0.01 billion/h * 24 h = 0.240 billion = 240 million.
That is 87.6 GBq/year
It is my understanding this figure does not contain flow into the sea mainly because they have no current way of reliably estimating it, but represents only airborne releases. In addition it includes Cesium (primary isotopes I assume) only.
Saying it's "1/80,000,000 of that right after accident" would mean the initial releases were 8,000,000 GBq/h or 8 Peta-Bq/h. What it does NOT say is how long that high releases lasted. (Hour? Year? There's a vague graph though). Earlier TEPCO said they released 900 PBq *into atmosphere* in March 2011 alone, including all isotopes. This rate would come to 1.2 PBq/h, and at the quoted "right after accident" rate had it continued 5760 PBq per month.
The largest reduction in releases came from half-life of the shortest lived isotopes, of course, affecting already released isotopes as well.

Copying here TEPCO's latest status update as it may explain some things possibly seen over last few days:
"At 2:09 PM on November 5, Unit 4 spent fuel pool alternative cooling system was stopped for adding anti-freeze liquid into the secondary system circulation water to prevent the water from freezing during winter time (The pool water temperature when the system was stopped: approx. 24.0°C). At 4:35 PM on November 6, cooling of the spent fuel pool was restarted after the work was completed and no problem was found with the system operation. Though the spent fuel pool water temperature increased from 24.0°C (temperature when the system was stopped) to 31.0°C, there is no problem with the pool water temperature control considering that there is a sufficient margin to the maximum allowed temperature (65°C)."
I calculated elsewhere assuming same starting temperature and weather, that TEPCO's data is correct (no big reason to doubt it, at near 2 years mark the fuel has lost most of its residual heat) and more importantly assuming even heatup both across the pool volume and temperature range, this would mean 5.6 days to TEPCO's 60 C limit and 12 days to boiling for Unit 4 SFP.
The biggest risk for the SFP's nowadays is draining either through failure of the pipes or seals that in many cases can't be inspected and serviced due to high radiation, or a significant earthquake, ground subsiedence or natural detoriation of the structures the pools stand on.

Electric short on crane causes explosion to hit other crane with debris!
Initial reaction: WoW! Here is what I think I just saw.
Going frame by frame clicking really fast.
2:25 There is some sort of electrical short on the center crane.
2:26 Several fast white flashes move up
2:27 Something EXPLODES
2:27 A projectile hurls into the upper part of the left crane
2:27 A smoke plume appears from the ricocheting debris.
Being able to see this one at regular speed would be helpful.
So quick, but it's there.
I did get a screen shot of the plume at 2:27 in on the recording.
This needs further review that's for sure.

A static 'like' discharge.

Thanks for the great job of observing. This frame by frame thingy is bad for our joints but revealing. Now we need some analysis, we need to comprehend what causes these flashes. Where are the specialists? What the hell are they doing?

at 01:01, center crane begins its rotation. Frame by frame again. It's clear the flash from the center of the crane follows a rod. It could be argued that it's a mere reflection of the sun on those rods.I found that they are covered with wires (?) here.

I thought it was a reflection or reflections at first also.
It does happen right along the rod structure several times in the Tepco cam view.
But when I watch the TBS/jnn cam and looking at the Fuku1long (the slower 2x version)it looks more like an electrical event to me. (lightning bolts) It moves or walks within the crane's arm. (sort of a blue hue)
In the TBS view the other cranes also seem to 'electrify'. I don't really see that aspect in the Tepco view, except on the crane that's turning. (?)
I have also seen lightning bolts events at night off of the crane arms and the stacks.
Like these bolts near the base of the left stack. It walked up the stack. I can only imagine what it must have sounded like.

ChasAha, your comments on the lightening are similar to what many of us saw in the spring and summer of 2011. The radiation and events in the reactor areas –created some very impressive "fireworks"..Am sure Nuckelchen captured a LOT of those episodes. I just have screen captures..but if you will like to see comparisons, can post. Good eyes!

I've been watching the emissions all morning today and taking screen shots.
It looks terrible.
Do you think it could be a result of the decision to turn off the water pump on unit 3?
I doubt unit 3 spfp can hold water without constant infusions and the damaged or melted fuel that no doubt exists in that pool is probably HOT!

I think it's the constant ground shaking, MIXING it up. The nonstop strong quakes have to add up. Not to mention all the blown up 'no-go' buildings.
It's a hostile environment to say the least.
Something went 'whacky' after they moved a large shinny object at about 1:00 minute into that video. (my opinion) The object looked 'hot' and had glow trails.
I don't really know about the pump on unit 3. I would say this place has multiple issues happening all at once. Which one starts the dominos falling and when is anybody's guess.

Fog on top of Unit 4 SFP, painting the crane in the background scary colors, and some between Unit 3 and 4 before 8am TEPCO-time and continuing. Hard to tell from TBS-cam against the sea. Doesn't look like water-drops, uneven and moving. Haven't been following the cams actively is this the new normal? Or cold night in Fuku? I think it doesn't take a lot of temperature difference to cause fog formation, but looks scary all the same.

Im convinced its electrical. But those are big cranes! It means the voltage is hundreds of thousands of volts. No messin around there! It must have been a scary event…and loud. The "walking of the voltage up the smaller crane looks like high voltage discharge, but the "shotgun blast" doesnt quite have the irregular look it should have. Then it leaps to the other crane but has lost its lightening look and now is atmospheric glow. Now you would expect this kind of thing to occur at the ends of the cranes not the middle. the walking is indicative of ungrounded high frequency, otherwise a short should just be grounded out. Why would it leap to the other crane instead of going down to ground? (OK, HAARP anyone?) The first question is why would they have 500 thousand volts to play with? You wouldnt want to blow anything up! Maybe they try to control radioactive particle emissions with high voltage fields. Too many particles leads to distributive capacitance discharge. Thats it! Simply too many charged radioactive particles creates distributed capacitance lightening, just like clouds! Its the fallout!…ok a theory….

The bolting 'shotgun blast' from the center crane toward the crane on the left is interesting. My theory there is that something possibly snapped and hurled a high velocity metal chunk that strikes the left crane causing the fast double smoke plume.

For perspective, its a much larger event then any gun blast, more on the level of a canon. While the video looks like nighttime, its actually daylight, so the event would look much more dramatic at night. The initial glow seems to occur within the the crane framework. The crane is crackling with energy. Then the cannon level discharge. Actually there are two in quick succession. The cranes continue as if nothing happened.

But if you go to 1:1 and 2:5 you see more of this electrical discharge on the crane second from right at the same joint. Since the video is fast motion, (20x?) you have to imagine the magnitude. The "hot spots" are glowing for some time!
The cranes must not be grounded. Perhaps the arms are insulated by grease. I seem to recall atmospheric ionization occurring during earthquakes? After a while of google searching you find this guy. Strange world. What can you believe?

At 20x – the two to three seconds of event could be up to almost a minute. (of that specific event)
I also think 'cannon discharge' is a better description.

Where there is smoke (your aptly named Sneezium) there is nuclear fire. Perhaps Blobzilla backlash from the closed water spigot policy at Unit 3 is affecting ground deposits near Unit 1.
The disjointed Westerlies will be forging a new path across the western US in a day or so. I usually check it every couple of days to see I need to really stay indoors as much as possible. Today I wanted to, but my terminally ill relative took a turn for the worse and we had to make a mad dash 90 mile round trip through the ugly windstorm. Car air filters aren't as good as HEPA filters at home.. Got a bad cesium-headache after getting home.

Theory,
The large ionizing radiation releases at the Fukushima site are creating electrical discharges.
Ionizing means it is electrically charged. Some of the radiation will be positively (Alpha Radiation), and negitively (Beta Radiation) charged. Gamma radiation would also be creating other ionization effects. The site would be a big cauldron of Ionization.
The large amount of Ionization radiation at the Fukushima site is changing the conductivity of the materials etc., air, earth, and metals etc. Damaging current levels flow as large electrical potential differences are created between the different materials, as they Ionize differently in a highly radioactive environment.
These discharges will also be influenced by weather conditions at the site.

Just witnessed two different birds fly and appear to fall to the ground.
