I have heard it mentioned that they are rad shields, but I don't know. They do go in and out of them a lot.
They had metal/lead protective boxes & suits in Chernobyl.

New "lights" are likely to be what's showing up in the screen shot image above,they have been scurrying around up there more in the last few days than I've seen in a long time and the "orange glow" is definitely the optical anomaly I've also seen before when additional lighting is in use or new ones make the intentionally obfuscated camera feeds look "different" than what we get used to considering "normal" after spending so much time watching for the horrific "finale" that nobody wants to happen but everyone who "stands camera watch" expects & wouldn't turn away from due to human curiosity and nature and perhaps the need to "confirm" that the time has come to party like there's no tomorrow-cuz there won't be! But for my inquiring mind I'd like to understand better the visual anomalies that look like the areas on some walls that appear to be "melting"(?) with small,black holes with sharp,well-defined and "bubbling" with what looks like outer layers of the building also appearing to have "peeled away" with glimpses of damage that show up one minute and look okay the next?!! I think radiation is high enough again @ R3 that the "fire" being described by some is actually the high radiation showing up on the plastic bag- covered camera(s) and it looks like steel wool burning at times(?) If there was actually a fire in R3 the flurry of human activity and presence COULDN'T be taking place just one building away?!!I been watching it for 18 months now…

VERY "whited out" TBS/JNN webcam right now. The other webcam shows a grey smoke at the base of the Reactor 3 vent, and more near the top of one of the cranes. I don't think clouds get that low…Any idea of what is going on?

I've been left to draw my own conclusions like everyone else trying to glean some sense of what's going on at that hellhole and after all of the time spent analyzing the obfuscated,low-grade video images and ALL of the suggestions & observations made by all of my fellow ENEwsers I'm starting to think that TEPCO simply benefits from simply using the cheapest,outdated,low-quality camera & the varying levels of distortion offered by simply covering the $25 camera with a 25 cent plastic bag that causes the "cloudy,foggy,grainy" images which distorts a different part of the image with each wind gust,tremor or "adjustment" of the plastic bag??!! The added expense of the only "magic" solution the cheap d-bags spent any money on is probably the blue filter that removes the "Rice Krispies"(Snap,Crackles & Pops)from public view which used to show up like x-mas tree lights when emissions levels above & around hotspots were at very high levels!(?) I don't buy their story about the "need to safeguard nuclear materials"excuse when they're "busted" by sharp-eyed critics from our side who still manage to catch damning evidence either!It sucks that when they actually do substantial work & move anything around or disturb coriums or SFP's we can detect their increased activity on our Geiger counters 7,000 miles away from the release site without having to see what they're up to on the crap camera feed we have no choice but to put up with!(?)Just my opinion 4 what it's worth…

p.s.~I failed to add that the "excuses" by TEPCO related to "protecting nuclear materials" was with regard to the replacement or alteration of photos & video imaging by TEPCO which was contradicted when huge(new)cracks & damage to R4 amongst "other" fragile & failing structures they've started working on after waiting so long to make any attempt to stabilize or prevent from further failure(s)! Some of our contributors have actually been there before and/or after 3/11 who KNOW exactly what the operations & equipment are and the implications of the presence & changes in methods,approach and especially the "expedited" applications of machinery & technologies being implemented means. The brief summaries contributed by them is MUCH appreciated since I think TEPCO & Japan's govt. would be "bragging" & all but declaring the NPP as good as "decommissioned" if their sudden ambitious & expensive ops didn't imply a "negative" status NECESSITATING renewed actions or perhaps a serious setback(s)!!(?) Feel free to add your most welcome responses & status updates,explanations,etc. and know that it's appreciated! THANKS!!

@jedi;I've been wondering about R3 and the rusty scrap heap dangling above whatever is or isn't still in the mangled remains of where the worst material,the MOX fueled reactor & SFP contents(if any is still even in there?)!! They tidied up or enclosed all of the other buildings & yet left R3 building with heavy steel I-beams & the remnants dangling precariously overhead??!! It's just another facet of the things that don't seem logical at the site,although someone probably explained it already? (not TEPCO/GE though,of course)

Bright yellow flash just above #3 @ 2012-12-21 18:40:35 aprox. Very strange visual. Also ongoing orange pulsating light followed by bright white ball of light at the base of #3 vent stack. What happened to TBS cam. out since earthquake earlier as Elibi mentioned. Things seem to be in a steady decline since 7.3 a few days ago.

I did see the orange pulsing light at the very bottom of the screen.
I am guessing that is a light on top of some sort of vehicle, but that's just a guess. At times it looks like a flame lapping.
I did not see a flash at 18:40 jst, but that does not mean it's not there. I was watching on fuku1ive which is at 20x. If I really want to verify a visual I also check fuku1long which is recorded at a slower 2x. (so fast blips show up better)

IMO, the light moving from right to left across R4 I believe is a person walking with a light.
Somethings going on that IS for certain.
The sky pulse/flashes and translucent rainbow emissions are spewing from everywhere sometimes right in front of where the 'light' is moving.
Scary… beyond belief!

yeah I'm with you nuck. my hope is that the water drops magnified the blaze orange paint of those boxes and/or shields we see used & moved around from time to time,but that might be "wishful thinking" and my occasional glimmer of hope that allows me to look death in the eye and associate it with TEPCO's paint scheme & blame it on their interior decorator?!! The more I look at it though, the more it looks like "something's cooking" in TEPCO's pot-belly stove??!!

Somebody needs to use one on the camera lens! The image I just saw when I was making my final rounds on the pc before hitting the pillow looked like the visuals during a bad acid trip!! Hi Nuckelchen Yes, I saw that big crane be collapsed yesterday and wondered what that was all about. It looked to be intentional though. I was just thinking the other day how well the cranes did to work in such extreme conditions. Maybe it's just taking a well earned rest, lol.

On TBS, I can hear gusts of wind, the footage is quite good. It's as if gusts of wind and light had what's left of the #3 pillars trembling as well as the visible corner of #1. Seems weird, and there's this yellowigh green hues over #3. Been watching for an hour or so.

Looks to me like they took the cover off the equipment pool. I think the SFP is on the other side of the building as viewed in the clip below, just behind what looks like a white strip on the top right side. The equipment pool is apparently where they put the parts that are on top of the fuel elements during service.

What I see are a lot of emissions too.
Huffing and puffing. The periodic clouds passing, which blocks the sun, tends to highlight the translucent gaseous releases.
Upper Right Corner R2:
I have been seeing more possible releases of some sort from that area in the last couple of weeks.
At times I think it's clouds forming over the ocean in the background, but recently I don't think that's true.
–> Anyone else see a small cloud plume viewable at the upper right corner of R2 at about 2:11 on the recording?

Yes..its pretty pixelated..but the puff comes out..floats towards the south. What is interesting and makes it more of a
event cloud..the cloud FORMS at the corner of R2. And looking up at the site to get an idea of the emissions..they have to keep pasting up covers in the video to hide the strong flares. Good comment ChasAha

The 'blinking eye' of the 'shadow monster' appears brighter and blinks with more frequency than I've seen before.

What I call the 'shadow monster' is located at the left corner of Reactor #3. The big shadow comes from the center stack.
In the rubble of that upper corner something flashes.
Upon close observation during daylight hours I see nothing of any consequence located in that exact spot. (?)
Possibilities…
1. Electrical short
2. Light reflecting off of a piece of dangling metal
3. Something hot reflecting from within the pit of R3
4. other…?

The JNN cam has something going on in the water? To the right of the big tower, part way out into the ocean, there is a spot that flickers and just looks really unusual. It is not a white cap. Another strange thing, the waves coming in look pretty big, but they are not breaking – they are not moving – AT ALL!. No time stamp, but it is 12/26/12 and 4 in the afternoon in California.

@Nuckelchen Great find. Wasn't this 'a huge steel floating structure used to store contaminated water from the tsunami-crippled Daiichi nuclear power plant,' introduced in May 2011? So, where has it been since then? Where is the radioactive water it was supposedly storing? In the Pacific? And why is it now back at the NPP? Probably being used to replace the flimsy, leaking storage tanks and then it's off again?

you know they had to have just quietly slipped out to sea (more than once I'd imagine?)and applied the "dilution solution" & simply dumped it into the already hopelessly contaminated Pacific Ocean any place conveniently out of view of the two p.o.s. cameras @FuKu-D NPP whose grainy,obfuscated images allowed us & which we're supposed to be "grateful" for the "privilege" and the REASSURANCE it offers for their competence and ability to stabilize & control FUKUSHIMENSTEIN-the monster of their own creation!(?) I have this "bad" feeling that they KNOW the Pacific is dying now and just dump as needed & disregard the consequences whether there may have been a chance at some point that Mother Nature could repair some of what the lower subspecies of our kind had done.If they don't speed things up and start containing the releases somehow it WILL be hopeless if it isn't already too late to avoid eliminating life in a chain-reaction starting with the Pacific Ocean!(?) I'm pretty sure they'd have mentioned the whereabouts & activity logs of the floating septic tank if they wanted it to be public knowledge,maybe it is? More than one occasion saw independently conducted surveys from Greenpeace,China,etc.reporting high concentrations of materials unexpectedly found farther from Fukushima than anticipated-was the tanker/fishing platform/golfing range nearby at the time with the Tidy Bowl man at the helm?-Probably from some "other" nuclear accident…

yep-probly a great time fer dem TEPCO Boys to "let off a little steam" I'd reckon!(?) 11-14uRemHr @6,165 miles due west from Fukushimenstein as the crow flies & I'm not sure the crow even made it through the "cloud shine"of the first 165 miles much less the 6,000 remaining miles that doesn't sound very intimidating of a distance for the infinite numbers now used to describe the Becquerel per KG or liter,etc. in the quadrillions,kazillions,whatever-way too many zeroes for my arthritic hands to type if the pages even were available for it?!!Logic would have it that the plumes of the gaseous isotopes from xenon to I-131 & even aerosolized PU-238,239,240 and U-234,235,236, all of the daughter products including ST-89,90 and many,many more including Silver-110 which I have another post to make about in the proper column when I get to it-but anyways ALL of which blew into a town near you already based on the sheer amount of the releases that plain HAVE TO BE STOPPED with hard work undertaken to make it a PERMANENT "STOP" for any meaningful remedial efforts rewarded with ever being able to grow clean food in a contaminated area(without continuing fallout)and raise livestock via "clean" feed and water for as long as it takes for the grass to return to an acceptable source of feed again but until that time I have to assume the loss of the CA as the fruit,vegetable,wine "basket" alone will be a chaos-triggering event!!(?)

I have screen captures also that show those puffy clouds.
Some people have in the past suggested the blog like things (puffy clouds) are rain drops on the lens.
However, the locations of these blobs coincide with the sites of greatest emissions.
I don't think they are simply condensation on the lens.

@majia; "Oftentimes the "raindrop" theory is the likely culprit-but not ALWAYS!(?) If visible emissions ALSO can be seen during those times it "seems" like things are particularly bad-then the distorted images that cause concern & anxiety when coupled with the current status of the seaside hellhole & the timing of seismic activities and small concessions made by TEPCO describing "minor" leaks or "cooling system malfunctions & related problems disclosed SHOULD be closely watched and official statements viewed with both suspicion and an "open mind"! I personally believe that the operations & activities related to removing fuel assemblies from the damaged SFP's releases HUGE amounts of radiation into the environment and every time a crane or piece of machinery "stirs up" the toxic swill spewing & sputtering just out of"our" view it causes radiation spikes to some degree that undoubtedly finds its way into more victims in the path of the releases. Since it's known that the theory of "dilution" and the majority of pollutants blowing offshore being somehow limited to and "stopped" before making US landfall have been proven FALSE-why would anyone assume TEPCO or Japan would restrict or even care that "favorable" conditions for such operations holding more implications for the USA than for Japan are taken into consideration when they commence said activities?!After all,the US nuked them in WW2 & then GE sold them bogus BWR's!(?)

IMO – The rainbow colored puffy clouds are raindrops.
If one watches long enough they can see the drops hit the screen and also later run down the screen.
It is odd looking in this screen shot that the puffs appear in critical locations. However, everywhere at Fuku is a critical location.
My theory. I think the raindrops are heavily laced with FALLOUT which is why the rainbow like puff/drops or sometimes gray/black drops appear.

@ChasAha;I think you're right about that and Fukushima Diary recently had images of the brackish,brown raindrops that coincided with above-average radiation levels nearest the plant & @ many bullets meeting place(477 times nominal background)but even here in Chicago I'm seeing the rainwater that fell on my CLEAN Jeep XJ's windshield was the SAME exact color as the wipers smeared the almost "sticky" or "magnetic"(?) consistency I haven't seen to such degree since the weeks immediately following the reactor explosions and my old white ford aerostar would be almost charcoal gray every other day into April which found me with a migraine & sore throat every time I was around it or washed off my van & did my best to avoid the "gritty" rain…god I feel sick now thinking about how much this issue has preyed on my mind since 3/11/11!~especially the horrific February,2012 day when the cancer I was so scared of invading my family again in my worst nightmare come true was diagnosed in my wife!!!And I love my wife a LOT!,so I'm that much more vigilant about HER environmental conditions & avoiding things that threaten her recovery.Black rain that registers 97uRemHr with the cover removed from the window of my pancake-Geiger tubed radiation detector for todays paper towel car hood sample swipe for 59 mins30secs survey!Air measurement dropped from 13uRemHr to 7uRemHr during break in rain/snow mix 31*F…could(has been)be worse I guess..:(

As I posted a day ago… the Daiichi plant workers are having a few Kirins during the long Japanese New Years holiday (about 6 days from Dec. 28th to Jan. 4th.
Looking at Fuku1 Live time lapses the big crane was last moved in the late afternoon of the 27th. No movement since of humans.
There was an earthquake tremor visible 59 seconds into this clip:

Approximately 4:20 PM on December 29th (JST).
Luckily it looks like pretty small lateral movement, but every quake is potentially the last straw for this sick camel.

Now what? Common sfp going dry? Continuous left to right smoky white steam plume that starts on 12-30, 1600, around 2.33 seconds into the vid. The plumage continues for the next two hours of video available. We may not be at the 'biblical end' yet, but we sure have a damn good start on it-
