The previous Fukushima Webcam Discussion Thread can be found here: http://enenews.com/fukushima-webcam-discussion-thread
This thread is for discussing matters related to the webcam(s) at Fukushima Daiichi.
UPDATE (via Nuckelchen): “Please note the ‘jst’ time of your observation. Also, describe as best as possible, what you see. Using North, South, East, and West to describe locations. Be specific whenever possible. This may sometimes be the ONLY record we have of such events.”

Thank you, Richard. I must be having 'puter problems.

Has anyone seen or heard any information on the common spent fuel pool that was near reactor 4? I haven't read any information on the status of that common pool, and I recall that being a huge potential problem. I apologize if I'm posting this under the wrong category.
Report Comment
There is some kind of ash or debris blowing very visibly by JNNcam. Longtime watcher and I've never seen this before. Anyone else think this is a really bad sign? I'm pretty sure that it's not insects, which is the only benign explanation I can think of.

Jec___I agree with you. There are obngoing explosions, culminating in a large one that lights the whole screen. Filter Change? I can't believe that unless someone really convinces me.
You might want to check out the quasimoto link I gave. He has a color enhanced video also. did you look at that as well?

And see this. A few days later, but very similar scene. Explosions (or whatever they are) are going on all the time now.

That video is very disturbing. The blue flash and then the red flash look like something BAD is going on–not to mention all the little distortion flecks that are presumably rad interfering with the digital camera (as still more stuff gets spewed into the only atmosphere that we have).
Is it safe to assume that blue flashes likely mean fission?
How long can this go on? How many more flashes like that can these structures withstand?
Report Comment
Iam335. In my limited amount of knowledge, I associate blue with neutron emissions. so, I'd say yes, from my very tiny knowledge. Whatever it is, I agree with you that it looks really, really bad. It almost makes me feel like saying, "So what if SFP4 goes boom? The worst is already happening, on going and non stop! HELP!
Report Comment
Jec — I agree; there are many explosions, smaller ones culminating in a very large one that lights up the whole screen. I can't accept that this is filter change. Someone will have to provide some heavy duty proof on that.
Did you check out the link to Quasimoto I provided. He also does a color enhancement of the event farther down his blog entry. Thanks for your reply & input.

Sorry about the double post. I thought I was posting it to the end of the last thread. When it didn't show, I re-posted, thinking maybe I had forgotten to click post.

Check out the emissions and see the small crane reappear from the plume at 1:20 and then disappear again in last five seconds.
For the doubters who always want to label it as fog… Why does the "fog" concentrate much of the time in the Unit 3 and Unit 4 locations and leave Unit 1 fairly unscathed? Oh yeah… Patch "Fog"… Or maybe just vapors from smoldering fuel rods?
They do have more nuclear fuel there than 95% of the nuclear Megaplexes in the world. Fukushima Daiichi is a whopper of a plant and it eats hardened robots for breakfast. We know it has "killed" two of the newest million dollar robots… Wonder how many workers have left in a lead-lined box?
Report Comment
And also, I've never seen fog propel itself upward as Fuku does so often. No doubts here. It's radionuke emmissions (perhaps mixing with some fog), but mainly emmissions.

Report Comment
@wideawake I see what you mean. At first I also thought it was birds but Yes, the longer it went on, and having looked again, I agree it looks like debris,
I do have one theory:
Last November I can remember there was talk of the possibility of a hydrovolcanic explosion.
Ah,I've just found this posted 22nd November:
Massive Hydrovolcanic Explosion Inevitable at Fukushima
://www.infowars.com/massive-hydrovolcanic-explosion-inevitable-at-fukushima/Uehara Haruo :
"If the fuel reaches an underground water source, Haruo explained, it will result in the contamination of water, soil and the sea. More catastrophic, underground super-heated water will ultimately create a massive hydrovolcanic explosion."
I'm just wondering if this may be what is now happening? There was certainly lots of smoke/steam on the clip (again!!), and so I am wondering if this black stuff ('debris'} might be some of the bedrock being ejected when hot corium has reached it?
Just a theory though ………… I welcome other views/ideas on this one.

I posted above that this was happening yesterday as well. Very disturbing to see so much stuff blowing around. Here is a link to an example.

Yes you are very correct, Daiini is also a huge question, Heart of the Rose. We keep looking, seeing the flashes in the cloud over the reactors, emissions and the CRANES at work off and on. Good eyes!
Report Comment
Perhaps.. the tide now reaches the reactors..and perhaps the coriums are reaching the ocean..as well.
This is shoreline..so for a lack of a better word..I suspect..fracturing.
The falling apart of the shoreline.
I do not have the link..but as far as I recall there is a fault relatively close to Fukushima Npp.
Report Comment
Steam from ocean/fracturing..wonder if its caused by the new TEPCO coffer dam project? The steam is in the correct area. So you all take a good look. Observing the emissions/steam coming out of the seaside area of Reactor 1…now drilling being the cause is a possibility.
The only question I have–HOW does TEPCO know the corium has not also gone horizontally (sideways) and is in the area they are trying to drill into the seabed..See:

Report Comment
@mungo, hard to tell but on JNN the large crane is to the left..smaller red crane is midway to the right. Big crane is not seeming to move, but smaller crane seems to change position. Not sure if TECPO webcam reflects that motion. Winds are from the south..blowing to north right now, then no wind for a few days as high pressure moves in. So will use that for calibration of timing I guess.
Report Comment
Yes, the worklight light sure has gone from the usual area i.e. on the righthand side of the Tepsham view. I think we can now only see the lights of Daini in the far distance. I think you are right, that it's been moved round to illuminate reactor 4, as particularly in the JNN view the left side of R4 has looked to be 'glowing' very brightly as of recently. I suppose this could be verified by looking back comparing the time lapses of the 2 cams. Will see if I can check this out ………
Report Comment
Capture of JPG of TBS webcam over the past hours..seems to me the glowing object (the res is really bad) to the right of R4 area BIG LIGHT– is having bursts of steam/light/emissions which match up with the sounds heard? Or is the brigh light on Reactor 3?? Whatever, the smaller red crane seems to be involved with the small glowing light which has the bursts. Back you
Wotcha! Nuckelchen are you there watching?..know its not a good time for you…mid day for me,later for you.
Report Comment
Can anyone explain to me what I am seeing on the TBS cam?
What are those 2 red dots?
Is there an eruption of gas that is being illuminated by the lights?
It looks very, very strange…
thanks
Report Comment
@mungo Good eyes! The ongoing of this sequence is concerning if this is the attemped fuel rod movement. Two fuel rods??? Wonder it what we see on the TBS cam is Reactor 4 (BIG LIGHT) and the SFP #4 (or next to) which is where they are working with the littler red crane. Litter being a misnomer–thats really a huge crane but smaller than the massive one to the left of the "display." The sound "blips"..match up to smoke/emissions, changing of the light size…Its kind of like 'blip' heard..then small light shows smoke, defusion..emissions trailing to the north..then dies down a bit. In the quiet stages one can see what might be the red crane "jaws" near the light (red color). Sometimes one sees some greenish hues..but the red it a crane I think.

Maybe they have started moving the rods out and for obvious reasons are doing it very, very slowly?? Yet we are all aware that time is of the essence because the SFP could start leaking, might drain or even suddenly collaps at any time, so they might be doing it at night. But of course, this is only my conjecture because Tepco won't actually say when they would start removing those 2 fuel rods. Personally if I lived in Japan I wouldn't hang around but get the hell outta there PDQ and not wait to see if all went OK. TepGov can't be relied on to tell the truth, ever.
That red crane must be manned so my heart goes out to the worker who is most probably sacrificing his life in this effort. The suits etc they wear surely offer little protection against the incredibly high level of radiation at the plant. We have seen how quickly and suddenly these radioactive 'fogs' appear and how long they can sometimes last and so it would obviously be hard to avoid them.

Thanks. I only check the cameras periodically, but the last several times I have looked, there has been too much smoke/steam/fog to see much of anything. I don't understand how the building could have been taken down so low, because I thought the spent fuel pool was on the fifth floor. What's left doesn't look five floors high, but maybe its just the distance and the angle that makes it seem so low.

Two crane heads are better than one-
The light indicating high rads is constantly flashing on the big kahuna crane. Extreme courage is required for humans to be walking around that pool. They retrieved one fuel rod yesterday. It was said they did not dry cask the rod, so where did they put it – common pool? This may not be a good time to say, cranes are on my mind. Two days ago, I had a dream that the top of a very large crane got very tired and, like a dinosaur head, laid down to rest on the pavement. Pray nothing goes wrong now. Shog off Mr. Murphy. Meanwhile, Tepco is doing their best to get the first rod dry casked and the next rod out before the thunderstorms. Surely that rod is not swinging freely, tethered to two cranes-
