Nice find, Heart. I like the "N key" graphic. I mean I don't like it, but… you know.
There's an interesting tension between the article's raising awareness of potential Gov/Industry abuse of social media (very real) and the usual cluster of "like" buttons on the page. I'm temporarily paralyzed – "like" it and get put on another list, don't "like" it and remain silent while the monster grows.
There's a cluster of YT vids in a similar theme. My younger techie acquaintances love this stuff (the techie in me loves it too). The human in me is terrified by the implications – panopticon prisons mesh with it perfectly. Here's a sampling, first from fiction:

Very interesting interview by Corbett Report with Joseph Trento of GRTV.
Since 1990 Global Research had been investigating the Japanese nuclear program. Gives very interesting account of the politics (and economic pressures) behind the US helping Japan, India, Pakistan and China develop nuclear weapons programs. In the case of China, as the US entered a recession political pressure came on to take a 10 billion dollar deal to put a plant in China. Points out the "atoms for peace" plan to put nuclear power stations around the world ended up being a training ground for specialists to produce nuclear weapons.
Describes the nuclear capability Japan has. Also describes how despite being told about this, the Japanese media refuse to cover it. Points out how given Japans weather and geology a continued nuclear program is fool hardy and could finish Japan as a nation. Very knowledgable and fascinating analysis.
Also points out that nuclear power is completely uneconomic and the only reason for it is to make nuclear weapons. Also says the mox fuel reprocessing plans are simply a cover for producing weapons since the plants can not only turn weapons into fuel, but fuel back into weapons.
Enough quotes and info in the video for Admin to run a series on it. Nuclear power is uneconomic, dangerous and the only reason we have it is to produce weapons.

Spread the word for Vermont anti-nuclear activists… Don't forget the big NRC Vermont Yankee meeting May 23, 2012. The pro-nuke forces will be there to use their scripted debate questions:
http://yesvy.blogspot.com/2012/05/may-23-nrc-meeting-show-up-for-vermont.html?m=1
Excerpt: "Ask leading questions. The NRC tends to answer what is asked and does not try to resolve the underlying issues."
SP: Nice the pro-nukes have such little faith in the NRC for intelligence. Au contraire… The NEC have very astute folks.
The decision of a state's citizens to close Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant is a line in the sand. If a state can not determine its own destiny on deciding to close a toxin-producing industry to have a facility then states rights are totally lost. We are watching you Washington and we don't like what we have seen so far. Don't tread on me. You will find the American people love their country more than their leaders.

AUTOMATIC REACTOR SCRAM RESULTING FROM A LOW CONDENSER VACUUM-TURBINE TRIP
"At 1452 CDT on 5/21/2012 with the reactor at 100% power, River Bend Station experienced a reactor scram resulting from an RPS actuation. Following the scram, reactor water level briefly lowered below level 3. The reactor is stable with pressure and temperature being controlled by the feed water system and main steam bypass valves, respectfully. The cause of the scram was due to a turbine trip/low condenser vacuum. The low vacuum condition resulted from a loss of non-safety related 4160V switchgear that powers two of four circulating water pumps.
"A suspected spurious Division II isolation of Reactor Core Isolation Cooling (RCIC) was observed. Restoration of RCIC to standby is in progress.

(continued)
"A report of a fire in a manhole was received shortly after the scram . Fire Brigade was dispatched and noted a small active fire in a cable tray. The fire was extinguished with fire extinguishers. Power cables are routed through this manhole.
"The plant is conducting causal investigations to fully understand the cause of the turbine trip. As information becomes available, River Bend Station will provide additional information."
All rods are inserted, and the plant is in a normal shutdown electrical lineup with the exception of NNS-Switchgear 2A being deenergized. Offsite assistance was not required to extinguish the fire.
The licensee notified the NRC Resident Inspector.

They have 4 units there too:
The Higashidōri Nuclear Power Plant (東通原子力発電所 Higashidōri genshiryoku hatsudensho?, Higashidōri NPP) is a nuclear power plant located in the town of Higashidōri in eastern Aomori Prefecture, on the Shimokita Peninsula, facing the Pacific Ocean. It is unique in Japan in that at this four-unit site, two units are run by one company, the Tōhoku Electric Power Company and two units are run by the Tokyo Electric Power Company. The reactors are all of Toshiba design.
Construction of Tohoku Electric's Higashidori Unit-1 began in November 2000 and was completed in December 2005. The design was based on Tohoku Electric's Onagawa Nuclear Power Plant Unit-3, with improvements to the reactor vessel to allow for greater ease in inspection and maintenance. A separate building, apart from the containment structure, is dedicated specifically for the heat exchanger system based on seawater to provide primary coolant for the reactor.

http://cameochemicals.noaa.gov/chemical/8183
It is well documented that Cesium is explosive under some conditions with Zirconium, possibly under high pressure as would occur inside a white hot fuel rod.
So it suggests we have another vector of explosive possibility. Naturally no suggestion is being made that you hermetically seal cesium inside a zirconium tube/rod and proceed to heat it up so that the cesium is pressurised against the white hot walls internally, or another combination of conditions where both are in volatilized divided state..
Have a look at it. I will continue pursuing the task of getting this information out to as many as possible.

Correct me if I am wrong but I heard that most of the cesium is in whey so cheeses and butter contains surprisingly lower dose compared to milk shall I say. So I am assuming that Pu & Sr are alike in this case but of course there is a limit. If there was a huge fallout and even if cheese contained less contamination, it is still high for us.
I am banking on pre-311 Parmesan cheese because it takes 18 months to mature. You can freeze the vac packed cheeses. But as I am finding out, there were probably nuclear leaks all over the world even before 311 anyway. What a wonderful world.

Touche Sam! I have reported how Chile apples were tested in Japan last summer with slight radioactive contamination. So transport is a contributor. Cheese sent by plane is more subject to gamma contamination than if it went by truck (my preferred method).
But still… Uranium and plutonium supposedly can't pass through a plastic cover and even more important… Ingested strontium and other particles by cows and goats will be lower in pre-Fuku cheese. Cows lap up strontium from fallout and it is a terrible bone-seeking poison. I think my dad died of strontium-induced illness in 1996.
Interesting trivia fact: goats concentrate more radioisotopes in their milk than cows.

One last thought for the night. All along I knew that the government did not want
data to get out so as to not panic the public, not to cause boycotts of food and economic
harm to the agricultural economy of America. Independent people doing testing can be
threatening. It is truly a can of worms to do this and publish results. Potrblog is courageous
and perhaps not prepared for the legal storms to come his way. Perhaps if it unfortunately
gets into the courts who knows if we will ever find out the truth of the situation.

Clyde bases plagued by nuclear safety flaws, says the MoD
"The Clyde bases that host Britain’s nuclear bombs and submarines are plagued by widespread safety flaws, according to an internal Ministry of Defence (MoD) report obtained by the Sunday Herald.
Critics fear that the problems could trigger a major nuclear accident at Faslane or Coulport that would contaminate Glasgow with radioactivity. They say this would be “unspeakable” and are demanding an urgent investigation.
The MoD’s latest annual review of safety reveals that 11 of the bases’ 13 activities have been officially declared unsatisfactory after assessments by site managers and regulators. The review was released last week in response to a request under freedom of information legislation.
Nine safety activities were colour-coded yellow because they were “below standard” and suffered “some specific weaknesses”. These included categories headed “weapons safety”, “safety culture”, “maintenance”, “safety performance indicators”, “site safety case”, “nuclear safety event reporting” and “conventional health and safety including fire safety”.
Two activities were coded orange because they were “significantly below standard” with “flawed” practices or procedures. They were headed “organisational change” and “operator experience feedback”…"

0800042 – Atomic Blasts- Operations Greenhouse Through Upshot-Knothole – 1951-1953 – 29:22 – Color – Silent – This video shows a compilation of early atomic blasts taken from individual short films of the tests. These formerly classified films have never before been seen by the public. The video shows close up footage of boiling, tumbling, rolling fireballs of great destructive force as the nuclear power from the splitting of nuclei of atoms is unleashed. The blinding fury released by these early atomic devices demonstrates the show of power that was used by the United States to end World War II and establish a power base for the Cold War to follow.
The term "atomic" designated them as fission devices, as opposed to the later much more powerful thermonuclear devices, which used a fission test to start a fusion process. Eventually, the word "atomic" was replaced by the term "nuclear."

thanks for the clips above .. intense.
i had read that NPPs waste about 30% of their power simply by the heating of water. the water is then, generally, expelled into the river/lake/sea/ocean. so yes, there is a lot of heat from nukes (the clips above show that.. sheesh).
but instead of my laymans hear say, here is something more scientific (if you can read it all).
http://www.world-nuclear.org/info/cooling_power_plants_inf121.html
"The amount of cooling required by any steam-cycle power plant (of a given size) is determined by its thermal efficiency. It has essentially nothing to do with whether it is fuelled by coal, gas or uranium.
However, currently operating nuclear plants often do have slightly lower thermal efficiency than coal counterparts of similar age, and coal plants discharge some waste heat with combustion gases, whereas nuclear plants rely on water."

Water is precious and drinking water is getting scarce. Nuclear power plants in America use 25% of the public water supply. Agriculture uses 25% and the rest is used by residents and other businesses. See something wrong with that picture?
When nuclear plants get through using water it is frequently poisoned for human consumption, yet they dump it back into oceans, rivers, and lakes. Like air, water can't be replaced for human existence. We have met the enemy and his slogan should be "deaths too many to be easily metered".
