Does anyone have this geiger counter? :
    GMC-300 Digital Geiger Counter
It's available on ebay for $168+$8 shipping. It has a usb connection so I could use it maybe on one of the rad networks online. Also want to go do some measurements in my local area; in Schenectady NY there was at least one plutonium spill back in the 50's or 60's, and there's 2 reactors nearby as well. Plus the person whose house we bought worked at a nuclear plant. (could have had something on his shoes and brought it home??) And whatever is coming down in the rain.
In this area back about in the 1960's, geiger counters at local colleges started showing high readings after a rainfall. This turned out to be from weapons tests in Nevada.
I'm looking for an idea of a good but not expensive rad meter. I would like to just get comments from anyone who has one or really knows what I should look for.
    thanks

  • The Myth of Overpopulation
    http://educate-yourself.org/lte/mythofoverpopulation02oct09.shtml

"Overpopulation is not the threat to Earth that we have been lead to believe. It is long past time for this lie to be exposed. We have been hearing about the so-called evils of OVERPOPULATION screamed in our ears for at least 40 years now.

Mass murder seems to have been big if not the biggest on the list of “the powers that want to be (TPTWTB)”. And clearly their accusations of "Overpopulation" creating the biggest threat to the Earth is a lie cooked up as an excuse to murder more people.

A lot of people are having trouble seeing this allegation as a lie. Think about the world with 100% clean energy. Or, even, think about a world with only 10% carbon based energy. Combine clean energy with better stewardship of the land and we could welcome more people to live in harmony here on Earth. Some of the most densely populated area in the world is in Northern Italy. If you look at a map, you see villages and roads laid out in patterns that look just like a Chinese checker’s board. Between the tight little villages are fields and forests and lakes. There is excellent stewardship of the land there. Good stewardship includes building of top soil, not the top soil depletion we see with petrochemical-based farming.

These elite with their agendas and their greed are far greater threats to the Earth than the general population living upon the Earth."

My spin i wrote on FB page goes something like this, and i aggree with Pu239 100%

In my case i have been putting a lot of finacial curve ball in.,

"Naturally this view differs to the view that is designed to lobotomise the public into thinking that they are at fault for the debt of their privatley owned democracy.

It is only these privately owned financial entities that are the root cause of pesiticide, herbicide, deforestation, extinxtion on steroids.
The idea that overpopulation causing global warming or any other is a gross misreprestation because technology has come to a point where we do not need the energy and resources we once did, but the relationship between the finacial parasite and the host forces the host into ever increasing death spiral far beyond anything that a mere increase in population could cause."

KITTERY, Maine — Multiple firefighters were injured while battling a fire aboard the USS Miami nuclear-powered attack submarine Wednesday evening at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, according to a shipyard and public safety officials.

Firefighters were initially called to the Shipyard just before 6 p.m. for a report of a fire on a ship in dry dock. Fire crews encountered heavy smoke and fire, and two firefighters were taken from the scene with injuries, the officials said, adding two more firefighters were later taken from the scene for treatment.

Nuclear energy is a Dead Duck! Literally!

Uncertainties shroud implications of Energy Bill proposals

Dr David Toke, senior lecturer in Energy Policy at the University of Birmingham, believes that nuclear energy in the UK is a "dead duck" that cannot be resurrected.

He compared trying to sell investment in nuclear power to trying to sell Greek government debt bonds: "ridiculously high rates of return are required which mean ridiculously high electricity prices have to be charged".

UK wants consumers to fund nuclear through higher utility bills

The UK government will today propose legislation that would guarantee profits to nuclear power providers by permitting them to charge more on consumers’ bills, BBC radio is reporting.

By putting the financial burden on consumers, the UK would attempt to sidestep a European regulation that prohibits direct state subsidies of nuclear power, BBC presenter John Humphrys pointed out while interviewing Energy Secretary Ed Davey on the Today programme on BBC Radio 4 (audio link expires May 29).

"Nature" on the health risks from Fukushima:
Studies indicate minimal health risks from radiation in the aftermath of Japan’s nuclear disaster.
    http://www.nature.com/news/fukushima-s-doses-tallied-1.10686
These lies have to be remembered well! I feel deep disgust posting this, and it is not the most disgusting , may be:
A far greater health risk may come from the psychological stress created by the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster. After Chernobyl, evacuees were more likely to experience post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) than the population as a whole, according to Evelyn Bromet, a psychiatric epidemiologist at the State University of New York, Stony Brook. The risk may be even greater at Fukushima. “I’ve never seen PTSD questionnaires like this,” she says of a survey being conducted by Fukushima Medical University. People are “utterly fearful and deeply angry. There’s nobody that they trust any more for information.”
So, when lie after lie make people disbelieve, they call them stressed, may be mad! These so called "scientists"are shame for humanity!

Fukushima Tour de Force: New Book Chronicles Nuclear Devil's Tango

"At the heart of the nuclear nightmare," she writes, "is something no one wants to talk about: birth defects, a whitewash word for children born without the attributes we recognize as human."
Turning her focus on all 104 nuclear plants in the U.S., Pineda's searing account ultimately asks the reader: "What is right? What right have we to do what is right? What right remains to us, knowing the little that we know?"
In the end, with an unremittingly courageous if not prophetic voice, Pineda's day-to-day exposé transcends the ruts of most energy debates to raise these larger questions about one of the seminal crises of our times.
"To say that corporate enterprise has abrogated your right to ask questions, to raise objections, or to expose malfeasance tells only half the story," she writes. "Corporations are not people. We are people, and until we learn to protest en masse, until we make it impossible for corporations to continue stripping the planet, they will hijack our earth, and make all living things expendable. That means you. That means us."

Great point! I just think that besides the protests, people need to support each other in small communities, sharing information, goods, moral support. This is a part of the freedom from big corporations – show them you can make it without them, and a lot better!

Another nuclear plant spill in New Brunswick

NB Power says about 300 litres of heavy water spilled Monday at the Point Lepreau nuclear power plant, Atlantic Canada's only nuclear facility.

The Crown company says the spill happened when a test equipment relief valve opened prematurely as officials were working on the plant's refurbishment. Heavy water then overflowed from a collection system inside the reactor building.

The utility says the water has been recovered for reuse and there is no risk to workers, the public or the environment.

Point Lepreau has been out of service since March 2008 for a major refurbishment that's meant to extend the life of the reactor by 25 years.

The project is about three years behind schedule and $1 billion over the original $1.4-billion budget.

"All alarms sounded as per design and heavy water was collected safely and in a timely manner.""

    @ tomarsandbeyond:
The GQ GMC 300 is a small, well made instrument with many selectable options. It is able to detect beta particles and gamma rays. Though the measurements you want to do seem related to low level activity phenomena, which could be more effectively
detected by a more sensitive tool. I have both the GQ GMC 300 and the Inspector Exp with the classic pancake styled probe
RAP-RS1, which can detect alpha, beta, gamma and X-Rays, albeit with different sensitivities. If I put the GMC 300 and the
Inspector's probe in the same spot on my desk, GMC 300 reports an average background radiation of 10uR/hr (10 micro-Roentgens per hour = 0.0869 micro-Sievert per hour) while Inspector says that the average background is about 15uR/hr.

Imo, and as a rule of thumb, the GMC 300's readings need to be multiplied by 1.44 in order to get the equivalent Inspector's
readings. This difference is due to the large sensitive area of the open Inspector probe in respect with the GMC little geiger tube located inside the plastic box with no window.

That said, the GMC 300 is obviously able to do its job, eg warning you in presence of large spikes during abnormal events.
Also, due to its small size, it can be used to inconspicuously check the enviroment around the place you live in.

It might be worth noting that I did not purchase Inspector because I was unsatisfied with GMC 300. In facts, I bought it _after_ buying Inspector for the reasons that I have said, in part.

As to the measurements you need to do, imo it's difficult you can get something by means of a geiger counter, not even a
first class one. Should the person who worked at a nuclear plant have had her/his shoes or clothing dirty with
large amounts of radioactive mud and powder then you might detect something, but I wouldn't think that it's your case. Few isolated particles aren't detectables, although minor amounts of radiations, just above the background noise, can be revealed using the geiger in the scaler mode, provided that your geiger allows it, by a two/three hours measurement.

I live in Center Italy and feel pretty alone here as to the people awareness of the dire situation the world is in. The
public information is almost non-existent, as well. In the last three months I've spent dozens and dozens of hours in reading your messages on enenews.com. Thanks to each and everyone of you.

President Obama nominates Prof. Allison Macfarlane to Chair NRC

“Rather than take the easy, industry friendly way out, by nominating one of the currently seated NRC Commissioners to chair the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the White House has tagged George Mason University Professor Allison Macfarlane to replace the outgoing NRC Chairman, Dr. Greg Jazcko, to chair the federal agency charged with safety and security oversight of the nuclear industry.

“Professor Macfarlane, a geologist, has extensive credentials in environmental science. She has won thanks from the environmental and public interest community, for: her opposition to risky radioactive waste reprocessing while serving on Obama's Blue Ribbon Commission on America's Nuclear Future; her shining a spotlight on the scientific unsuitability of the proposed Yucca Mountain high-level radioactive waste dump (she co-edited the book Uncertainty Underground, about Yucca's many flaws); and her advocacy for addressing the potentially catastrophic risks of high-level radioactive waste storage pool fires (see co-authored the 2003 study by Alvarez et al., highlighting such risks in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks). However, Professor Macfarlane is not anti-nuclear power, and concerned citizen and environmental advocacy are always required to hold NRC's feet to the fire, no matter who chairs the agency.

Alert, just saw this on the news…
Although they are saying it is a chemical contamination, we all know how mushrooms uptake cesium in great quantities.

Dried shiitake mushrooms sold at Costco recalled

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — Dried mushroom slices sold at Costco Wholesale stores in Oregon, Washington and California have been recalled due to possible contamination.

California-based L.A. Link Corp. issued the voluntary recall Wednesday for Shiitake-Ya brand gourmet shiitake mushroom slices with a sell-by date of April 16, 2013.

The company said they might have been contaminated with carbendazim and other chemicals. Carbendazim is a fungicide used to control plant diseases.

The contamination was found after U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulators tested a product sample.

Shiitakes have meaty caps and woody stems, and are often sold dried and reconstituted for cooking.

    – The Associated Press

    http://www.oregonlive.com/business/index.ssf/2012/05/oodried_shiitake_mushrooms_sold.html

Why would you put a plant fungicide on a fungus to control fungus. If mushrooms are dried properly there is no need for any added chemicals.

IMHO, This is just the beginning of the bioaccumulation…

            Mycelium

Mycelium (plural mycelia) is the vegetative part of a fungus

It is through the mycelium that a fungus absorbs nutrients from its environment.

            All mushrooms are fungi.

            All fungi have mycelia.

            I am a fungi!

Shitake contaminated with Fall Out, not a fungicide..
no surpise here. especially if it
    came from Japan or other
    near by countries. mushrooms are
    great bio-accumulators of radiation,
they were used in Chernobly to
help in soil decontamination. Paul Stametz
has a 300 year plant to decontaminate
    forests in Fukushima through mushroom
remediation. As an aside. I would be careful
of eating mushrooms both wild and factory
farmed until you know the cesium levels in them.
FDA and EPA what's in the soil of our forests on
the WEst Coast where the delicious wild mushrooms
grow that are harvested in the fall and winter months
after the first rains? What about state of Penn. home
of three mile island. Lots of commercial mushroom farms

Same applies to animals as well.

Geologist Is Nominated to Lead Nuclear Agency

"President Obama on Thursday nominated Allison M. Macfarlane, a professor of environmental science at George Mason University, to serve as chairwoman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission….

… Dr. Macfarlane, 48, a geologist and an expert on nuclear waste disposal, has the support of Harry Reid, the Senate majority leader, who called her “eminently qualified” to lead the commission….

… The Senate is currently considering Mr. Obama’s appointment of Kristine L. Svinicki, a current member of the commission originally nominated by President George W. Bush, to a second five-year term. The Senate is likely to consider the two appointments in tandem, possibly easing the political path for each."

"Last irradiated fuel shipment leaves area near river at Hanford"

"Stray fuel pieces found during Hanford cleanup had been transferred to the K West Basin for storage in underwater containers. Eventually, about 90 pieces of reactor fuel, ranging from a quarter-inch to 26 inches in length, were held there in double-barrel canisters.

Now they've been moved to the Canister Storage Building in central Hanford until they can be disposed of, likely in a national deep underground repository for irradiated fuel and high-level radioactive waste.

The move is a step toward getting radioactive materials away from the Columbia River and also emptying the K West Basin, which is about 400 yards from the Columbia River, so it can be demolished…."

strikes me more of marketing your argentine solution…
(word to the wise.. that solution is what WILL happen when the markets crash anyway, lots of countries have such schemes in place (though underused) that will be initialized by the lack of cash.. its a no brainer for survival and is worthy backing.. however, enenews is a campaigning site as well as an info site and most here are aware of the contents of the book you read.. and more up to date info too!
you need to research AND take sides imo! not hide your worries about dose issues in some dusty corner of you tube imo!!
".. for the decriminalisation of marijuana to fight the cancers coming from the Japanese low-level radiation…"

      from the hidden video description

no mention of the plight of the children of fukushima (a BIG theme on enenews for some reason.. but talking about dope!… should dull the sound childrens pain WHEN cancer develops!

      grrr!

i gave you the benefit of the doubt.. now i have only doubt

proove me wrong KING of the paupers.. please!
      research the dose question better
mention the dose issue concerning said 350,000 children
      AND let your viewers know

Flawed MIT Study Used To Dismiss Need For Nuclear Disaster Evacuations

~This is the reason for this report…"However, the FINANCIAL and emotional cost of such relocation may not be worthwhile, the researchers say.”

Excellent report on each element of the flaws in this study. also refers to possible conflict of interest. And more.

There are so many flaws it is amazing including that Radiation Resistant mice were used.

..Yanch in the days following the March 2011 disaster at Fukushima Daiichi, flaunted her MIT credibility calling herself “professor of nuclear engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology”, failing to mention the whole “visiting” part of it. On March 22, Yanch was in the media desperately trying to downplay and dismiss Fukushima and again on March 31st.

TEPCO sponsors a professor of nuclear engineering at MIT. As part of this TEPCO also funds research programs in the nuclear engineering department at MIT, though TEPCO is not mentioned as a funder or conflict of interest in the actual paper.

It is unclear if all of this questionable activity violates MIT’s Ethics and Conduct rules, it certainly doesn’t meet the public standards of being unbiased.
The overarching problem is that this very small and questionable study is being used to justify scaling back nuclear accident evacuation zones. This is clearly stated as the conclusion of the researchers as they state in the MIT article on the study.

  • MaidenHeaven MaidenHeaven

"Her track record in her own work and her comments to the media showed a serious effort to promote her idea that nuclear evacuations shouldn’t happen even if the science doesn’t back this up. Yanch is now promoting this flawed MIT study as “evidence” and she is using it quite clearly to advocate that we roll back evacuation zones or simply not even evacuate people."

Well worth reading the entire article. Also follow additional links in the article.

I have no doubt with just what I read here that if you follow the money more than Tepco have funded this study.

I woke up today dreaming about Japanese being given places to live in the U.S. We did this for some Vietnamese after our war with them:
    http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=6855407
"In 1975, President Gerald Ford set up an inter-agency task force that resettled 130,000 refugees from South Vietnam after the fall of Saigon."
My dream had to do with working on setting up a new city in the U.S. for some people who want to move out of the danger zone in Japan.
This would almost be the reverse of what the U.S. did to the Japanese-Americans in WWII. Instead of forcing anybody to move it gives people a chance to move but gives them their own city where they can maintain their language and culture.
This effort would also wake Americans up to the reality of how bad the contamination is over there. In my dream it was a model city designed to not be based on cars but where you can walk places, and a city that uses something other than nuclear power.

Seems to be mostly accurate info in this article; but Stubblebine & Laibow are probably dis-info 'controlled opposition' operatives. If you Google them, you will find several articles alleging this to be the case.

The advice to "Beware of Greeks bearing gifts' come to mind, & I would paraphrase it for our modern world, to "Beware 'retired- Army-generals-who-were/are-also-CIA-intelligence-operatives' bearing gifts." (The prevailing wisdom has it that, once an intelligence operative, always an intelligence operative; there is no such thing as an 'ex' intelligence operative – one who, you know, after overseeing numerous torture and kill operations over a long career has finally 'seen the light' and turned from his evil ways…

The warning,'Caveat emptor' (let the buyer beware) could be re-formulated 'Caveat lector'.

Dis-info operatives have to put out predominately good info if they are to gain the trust of their target audience.

I certainly am not disputing the info in this article – far from it; I am just suggesting that Stubblebine & Laibow are not to be trusted, and I wonder about Alex Jones, because the man is just to smart and savvy and knows how to do good research – makes it hard for me to believe that he 'just doesn't know' that Stubblebine and Laibow are alleged disinfo operatives.

Japan robot lab readies second prototype for work at crippled nuclear reactor

A Japanese robotics lab has developed a new emergency response prototype that will soon be put to work at the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant in northern Japan

The robot, called "Rosemary," is about the size of a lawn mower and has four extended treaded feet that swivel up and down to help it climb over obstacles. It can ascend at angles over 60 degrees and can carry instruments and other payload weighing up to 60 kilograms (132 pounds).

"We tested the robot's various electronic components using an exposure test," said Takeshi Nishimura, a researcher at the Future Robotics Technology Center. "It can be used without any additional shielding or protection."

The robot will be sent to Fukushima in the next few months, he added. It is the successor to a robot from the center that was originally developed for disasters in subways, but was put to use at the nuclear plant.

    ~Watch "Rosemary" in action.

There is so much radiation out in space that there is no way we can ever colonize space. This is just an excuse to keep manufacturing nuclear fuel (i.e., manufacture nuclear weapons). The myth is that nuclear fuel will help them travel so much faster.

It is also to give credence to the false attack by so-called "aliens" that we all submit happily (and in fear) to the NWO and world-wide dictatorship.
