Radiation From Japan Disaster Found Along California Coast
Apr 10, 2012
Kelp along the California coast was found to be contaminated with radioactive material from a nuclear plant damaged in the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan, according to a recent study.
Researchers at California State University, Long Beach found that the kelp contained radioactive iodine, cesium, xenon and other particles at levels unlikely to be detrimental to human health but much higher than the amounts measured before the disaster.
The levels were also about the same as those measured in British Columbia and Washington state after the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear power plant explosion.
The researchers also expressed worry that the radioactivity could have made it into the coastal food chain, although they weren’t sure what impact that could have.
“Radioactivity is taken up by the kelp, and anything that feeds on the kelp will …

Federal regulators confirmed their preliminary finding that a fire at an idled Nebraska nuclear plant last June presented a serious safety threat.
OMAHA, Nebraska (AP) — Federal regulators on Tuesday confirmed their preliminary finding that a fire at an idled Nebraska nuclear plant last June presented a serious safety threat.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission said in its final determination that the small fire at the Fort Calhoun plant 19 miles (30 kilometers) north of Omaha was of "high safety significance." The finding mirrored the commission's preliminary conclusion announced March 12.
"This finding has high safety significance because it affected multiple safety systems and consequently warrants actions to prevent recurrence," said the NRC's regional administrator, Elmo Collins.
Omaha Public Power District spokesman Jeff Hanson said the utility "knew early on that this was a serious issue and we knew we were going to get a serious … continue

Radioactive material in CdM doesn't stop beachgoers
Runoff from the San Diego Creek through Newport Harbor could be behind high readings. Some express concerns while others shake off study's findings.
April 10, 2012|By Lauren Williams
Corona del Mar may have topped the list of places where radioactive material linked to Fukushima, Japan, was found in kelp, but beachgoers were out in full force Tuesday afternoon, and some seemed unfazed by the findings
Gabriela Garcia of Orange, who was walking alongside CdM's beach Tuesday afternoon, said "of course" the findings were a concern and said she wanted to be somewhere she felt safe.
Latvian Nauris Jansons, who is on a two-week trip visiting Southern California, was initially skeptical of the findings.
"Can it really come so far? I don't think it can be a concern," he said. "If it's scientific proof, then it can be a concern."
Harbor View Homes resident Milvi Vanderslice didn't share the same concern as some other beachgoers. She sat with her friend Tiina Kaskla of Huntington Beach on a bench above the bluffs and said she's not worried about the iodine, but concealed the news from her daughter who recently had a baby.
"Listen, if the kelp sucks it up it's probably not in the water, but I'm not telling my daughter," Vanderslice said. "If we would leave it alone I think nature takes care of everything. We love this beach."
UFO or hoax? Arial video over South Korea stirs speculation
By Eric Pfeiffer | The Sideshow – Mon, 9 Apr, 2012
A new video has surfaced that some claim shows a saucer-shaped UFO zooming past the window of a passenger airplane flying over Seoul, South Korea.
In the video, the unidentified passenger is filming the otherwise uneventful view from the plane's window. Suddenly he makes a startled sound as the white saucer-like image comes into view.
Look in the upper left hand corner of the film at the buildings. See the shadow angle and direction of sun. It is not consistent with the object passing. The clarity of the objects on ground and clarity of the object passing through are not consistant. The video shooter did not appear to follow the object, even when giving his attention to the fram shot. I believe its a weak CGI.
We are not alone, not the only apple on the tree, as my grandpa said to me in the 1958 VW visa bus after we saw a Meteor fall to the earth on our way to the general store ! !
Mr. Anthony, let me close with this. Much the same of the genius here in this field have surrounded themselves with like people, the same is true in the field of ufology. 10's of thousands of grown men and women have lost their high caliber reputation for speaking about this taboo subject. The utter mention of the subject is much like whats going on in Japan now and our inability to gain credibility to the reality of whats reality.
I have focused my attention to the subject for 10 years, as much as I have here, with just as much effort and passion. But the lack of concern for the Fukushima incident here, and acknowledgement by the political big guns there, I left. The catastrophic consequences of our own making here did not drown out the noise making in that community.
I left that community for this one.The field is broken down into specialty fields, Surgeons, Doctors, Nukes, Biologists, etc. Taboo, I deleted all my association in fear of isolation. True to my name, and my beliefs, PoorDaddy. I remained CB. I hold a lot of information witch is not welcome here of course by society. I am not a skeptic, but hold their eye. The effort to withhold the truth of the visitors is as self evident as the truth of Japans catastophy. It is not something new, but it is a threat to national security. The religious implications are huge. The proof and witness would stand up in any court without a reasonable doubt.

Efforts much the same here in petitions to congress have failed time and time again. The disinformation network and army of disinformants are as real, and as big as it is here now. I am on watch now.
Also, one theory is that if Mt Fuji erupts, the eastern shore on Honshu will fall into the ocean with all its nuclear reactors. Definitely not a good scenario.
Reading about Admiral Rickover today, one of the "Fathers of the Nuclear Navy"
He was charged with the task of carrying out a mandate from congress to make a reactor fit into a submarine.
He succeded very well at this task and had a very long, successful career.
But at the end of that career he had doubts about nuclear power being inherently unsafe.
Just as most of the early pioneers in nuclear came to realize.
They all wished in the end that man had never found nuclear fission.
Here's what he told congress at the end of his career, from his wiki.
Given Rickover's single-minded focus on naval nuclear propulsion, design and operations, it came as a surprise to many when in 1982, near the end of his career, he testified before the U.S. Congress that, were it up to him, he "would sink them all." A seemingly outrageous enigma of a statement — and perhaps one attributable to an old man beyond his time — in context, Rickover's personal integrity and honesty were such that he was lamenting the need for such war machines in the modern world, and specifically acknowledged as well that the employment of nuclear energy ran counter to the course of nature over time.
At a congressional hearing Rickover testified that:
"I do not believe that nuclear power is worth it if it creates radiation. Then you might ask me why do I have nuclear powered ships. That is a necessary evil. I would sink them all. I am not proud of the part I played in it. I did it because it was necessary for the safety of this country. That's why I am such a great exponent of stopping this whole nonsense of war. Unfortunately limits — attempts to limit war have always failed. The lesson of history is when a war starts every nation will ultimately use whatever weapon it has available." Further remarking: "Every time you produce radiation, you produce something that has a certain half-life, in some cases for billions of years. I think the human race is going to wreck itself, and it is important that we get control of this horrible force and try to eliminate it."
(Economics of Defense Policy: Hearing before the Joint Economic Committee, Congress of the United States, 97th Cong., 2nd sess., Pt. 1 (1982))
And here's what he told President Jimmy Carter when they served together.
As quoted by President Jimmy Carter during his 1984 interview with Diane Sawyer: "One of the most remarkable things that he ever told me was when we were together on the submarine and he said that he wished that a nuclear explosive had never been evolved. And then he said, 'I wish that nuclear power had never been discovered.' And I said, 'Admiral, this is your life.' He said, 'I would forego all the accomplishments of my life, and I would be willing to forego all the advantages of nuclear power to propel ships, for medical research and for every other purpose of generating electric power, if we could have avoided the evolution of atomic explosives.'"
…After serving on conventional submarines in both the Atlantic and Pacific, Carter joined the Navy's pioneering nuclear submarine program. After graduate studies in nuclear physics at Union College in Schenectady, New York, Carter was selected by Admiral Hyman Rickover to serve as engineering officer of the Sea Wolf, America's second nuclear submarine. …

Green groups raise Peterborough radiation fears
April 11, 2012
OTTAWA – Environmental groups say an Ontario company that uses tritium in its products is being cavalier with the radioactive material – and Canada's nuclear watchdog isn't doing enough to crack down on the operation.
Peterborough-based Shield Source Inc., which manufactures signs with tritium that glows without electricity, is asking the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) for a license renewal and that the licensing period be extended from three to 10 years.
But the company has had problems at its manufacturing facility in the past.
In February 2010, there was an accidental release of tritium …
Royal Dutch Shell says a sheen of oil, 10 square miles in size (26 square kilometers), has been spotted in the Gulf of Mexico on late Wednesday, April 11, 2012 and was reported to National Response Center.
I am not surprised. The grab for ocean oil has led to an utter devastation off east Africa and the Arabian Gulf (mainly from tankers emptying sludge before getting a new load oil).
Shell has been one of the major polluters along with Chevron and virtually all the billion dollar companies:
Africa's east coastline is now virtually destroyed for sealife. Corruption and bribery have created an atmosphere of outrageous lawless actions by the major oil companies.
Yet no one is held accountable, the lawless, free for all, do what ever, no containment necessary, stay away, no fly zone, no MSM allowed to cover this, just happens, this accident is the exception, we apologize, just die already, you have no say, were bigger than you, fuck you, fuck life, birds just die, attitude. This governs us.
CB, crossing the main street bridge this morning it appeared to be a lot of sheen on the river, more then normal but it was windy today, need to take another look when the winds die down, there have been other spotting as this since the well was plugged, but that one wasn't the real problem ! These earthquakes may be loosing the cement they are patching the floor with !!!

My daughter just called me from Radford, Virginia. She was having lunch with one of her gal pals and they had ordered tuna steak sandwiches, the restaurant was Sharkies. The server said they were out of tuna, and had been for 2 weeks and there was a problem with the tuna and their supplier would not sell it to them. My daughter asks, kind of jokingly, Why was it radioactive, and he said YES, that is exactly what it is.

WAITER ADMITTED RAD'S….
Wow! Thanks for sharing this, Whoopie! This is HUGE news, the fact that 1) Suppliers found radiation in tuna and admitted it and 2) would stop selling the tuna and not hide the fact they found radiation and 3) the restaurant owner would share this info with their wait staff.
This is just the beginning of what is bound to be a trend. And while it is sad to have confirmation that tuna is becoming more irradiated, it gives hope that we do have some business owners with integrity.
Now the question is: Who tested the fish for radiation? The fishermen? The fish wholesalers? The FDA? The Japanese govt? (JK!)
Please keep sharing these important stories! Thanks again, Whoopie!

Loved this statement on page 14, 2nd full paragraph:
"The nuclear weapons industry is the most illegitimate of all industries. It threatens every one of us. Yet mainstream financial institutions across the world continue to invest in companies that participate in this grossly immoral, earth-endangering industry.
"It is up to civil society to act to stop this complicity. It is time for a global divestment campaign to challenge the buildup and modernization of the world's most destructive weapons. Such a campaign will be vital to the success of a genuine, total ban on these ultimate instruments of terror."
W-A-T-K: You of course can include nuclear power plants in the above, as they too are "ultimate instruments of terror." Just look how the poor Japanese citizens have been terrorized by the ongoing nightmare of three nuclear meltdowns and burning spent fuel pools. And look at the rest of the world's citizens (like enenewsers) who have been terrorized by being aware of the truth of the real dangers of Fukushima and the threat it still presents to the entire Northern hemisphere.
Fuku is a senseless man-made tragedy that needs to NEVER happen again!!! We need to shut down ALL NPPs as well as continue to reduce the world's nuclear weapons stockpiles. Our children deserve a BETTER future!

EPA approves 'Agent Orange' pesticide
11 April, 2012,
The Environmental Protection Agency has refused a petition that aimed to ban the sale of a powerful pesticide linked with cancer — and while already available, a surge in sales is expected as scientists ready a new crop resistant to the chemical.
Not only has the EPA rejected a petition that sought to prohibit the domestic sale of the dangerous 2,4-D pesticide — a key ingredient in Agent Orange — but the main manufacturer of the chemical predicts that sales will skyrocket in the coming months. The reason, it would seem, is that Dow Chemicals is awaiting federal approval of a genetically engineered crop they’ve created that will be resistant to 2,4-D.
If approved, farmers will be able to plant the frankencrop corn variant …
Dr. Helen Caldicott: What We Learned From Fukushima
April 8th, 2012
(SeattleCommunityMedia) – April 2nd, 2012 – Few people know that the Pacific Northwest got whacked hard by fallout from the Fukushima disaster with radiation rates hundreds of thousands of times higher than normal background radiation. The damage from this is not something that the corporate media or the government is talking about. It mysteriously disappeared from the radar almost immediately. Dr. Caldicott referred to this as a process of “cover-up and psychic numbing.” Looks like it may be working.
At 1:00 of 4/13/2012, Tepco staff found the amount of nitrogen to inject was decreased at reactor 1 ~3.
At 1:30 of 4/13/2012, Tepco staff confirmed nitrogen injection equipment was automatically stopped because it was alarmed that the air compressor went out of order at 1:04.
At 3:10, nitrogen injection was restarted by using another nitrogen injection equipment. At 3:46, reactor 1 ~ 3 got the injection recovered
**** It was essential for Japan to maintain vigilant monitoring of fruit, milk, mushrooms, game and fish, Champion said.
"There are risks of chronic exposure at low dosage, and without care this can build up over time," he warned.
The March 11 catastrophe saw the plant swamped by a quake-generated tsunami that knocked out coolant pumps, triggered hydrogen explosions and caused three of its six reactors to suffer meltdowns of nuclear fuel.
Radioactive elements were spewed into the air by the blast and into the sea by cooling water that was pumped in in a desperate attempt to keep the overheated reactors under control.
The IRSN said the main radioactivity leaks occurred between March 12-25 in about 15 incidents, "of which the biggest probably took place before March 15".
It gave a provisional estimate that 408 peta-becquerels, or 408 million billion becquerels, of radioactive iodine had been emitted into the air.
This was 10 times lower than in the 1986 Chernobyl disaster in Ukraine, the world's worst nuclear accident.
The iodine releases posed a sharp but temporary hazard as the element quickly decays. A bigger problem, the IRSN said, was caesium-137, a long-lasting element which takes around 30 years to decay to half its level of radioactivity. ****
**** Critics say the cold shutdown declaration was premature since the aftermath of the Fukushima accident is far from over.
“We can’t agree with the prime minister’s assertion that matters have been settled at Daiichi. The crops in Fukushima are still contaminated. No progress has been made in reducing the uncertainty felt by the residents,” said Michio Furukawa, the mayor of Fukushima’s Kawamata town and a member of the panel.
The government said last week it may take another seven years before the inside of the reactors can be checked due to high levels of radiation and technological constraints. ****
**** Kan, a former grassroots activist, has advocated a nuclear-free Japan and criticised the ministry, which has formed cozy ties with the energy industry. Power companies have given cushy jobs to many retired government officials. ****

****The findings were a concern for some.

Dr. Caldicott referred to this as a process of “cover-up and psychic numbing.” Looks like it may be working.
