I'm posting this as a follow-up to a MSM news radio story (WBBM WGN 105.9FM/780AM Chicago,IL) that was almost laughable the way the announcer treaded so lightly regarding the explanation for the huge demand for US beef by Japan "because of serious safety concerns about domestic sources" without ONCE mentioning the word "radiation" or "contaminants" or Fukushima or even 3/11 at all!!~It was part of the Wall St./Business portion of the news program and the omission of the reason for the increased profits made it sound like it was such a GOOD(?) thing too!!(?)
~**
I've probably stepped on enough toes over local issues involving the "elite" to expect some sort of "backlash"(again)in the future but don't really don't care who doesn't like it or the emails I sent (again) to express dismay and put them on notice that there is a growing number of their audiences who either just "woke up" or knew all along that the "WORST" HAS/is occurring and that they are part of a group of those responsible for post-3/11/11 harmful impacts that might have been reduced or avoided if they'd have just advised the public of the threats and protective measures options and that makes them theoretically accountable for the untold numbers of cancer victims ESPECIALLY the likely massive numbers who WILL,but haven't yet been officially diagnosed as such! I do what I can to remind ALL that 3/11 happened and IS happening well beyond Japan for coming up on two years now and it SUCKS!!

EU condemns Iran nuclear upgrade plan
February 1 2013
“Brussels – The European Union voiced “serious concern” Friday over Iran's decision to install more modern equipment at its Natanz nuclear plant, saying it would be in “clear violation” of its international obligations.
“’We have learned with serious concern that Iran has informed the IAEA about its intention to install advanced centrifuges of the type IR2m at the Fuel Enrichment Plant at Natanz,’ said a spokeswoman for EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton.
“Their installation could significantly increase the production of enriched material, she said.
“This would ‘add to the already severe concerns of the international community about the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear programme’ and would be ‘in clear violation of Iran's international obligations to suspend all enrichment and enrichment related activities.’…”

"Critics Say Proposed Guidelines for Japan’s Nuclear Industry Will Hinder Business"
Proposed new safety guidelines for Japan’s nuclear industry — strict enough that they could keep reactors shuttered for years for emergency upgrades — have set off intense political maneuvering by those who say the regulations will cripple business just as hopes were rising for economic relief….
….The guidelines require a secondary command center away from the reactor buildings… They also call for power companies to prepare for worse tsunamis…forcing at least some oceanside plants to raise sea walls, a costly endeavor.
The rules also ban power companies from building or operating reactors on top of active faults, but continuing contentious discussions over what an “active” fault consists of might allow the government to avoid closing such plants for good.
Many of the proposed regulations bring Japan in line with standards in the United States….
But Mr. Abe has argued that keeping the reactors idle would hinder a recovery he is trying to jump-start…
…there are lingering suspicions among anti-nuclear activists that the new panel will ultimately go easy on the country’s nuclear operators…the panel has left open the possibility that some standards could be suspended to allow limited reactor restarts…

Nuclear safety chief questioned over Fukushima disaster: report
Feb. 03 2013
“…Fukushima residents have filed a criminal complaint with prosecutors against Mr. Madarame on suspicion of professional negligence which resulted in deaths and injuries, the public broadcaster said.
“The complaint alleges that Mr. Madarame was responsible for a delay in announcing data predicting how radiation would spread from the crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant, it said.
“It also reportedly faults him for failing to take necessary measures to shield the plant against the tsunami in the first place….”

Deep nuclear waste disposal sites gain traction
January 29, 2013
“The US currently has the world’s only operational deep-level nuclear waste repository, in New Mexico, but it only accepts waste from weapons research and production….
“Along with the UK, other countries considering building high-level waste repositories include Sweden, Finland, France, Germany and Canada. Sweden is most advanced, submitting a formal application to build a permanent storage facility in 2011.
“It took SKB, the Swedish nuclear waste management organisation, 15 years to win local support for its plan, which will see waste buried in copper canisters 500m underground. “

Sellafield clean-up cost reaches £67.5bn, says report
Taxpayers are now spending £1.5bn per year on Sellafield, the authority said
The cost of cleaning up the Sellafield nuclear waste site has reached £67.5bn with no sign of when the cost will stop rising, according to a report.
The Public Accounts Committee's report said deadlines to clean the Cumbria site had been missed, leaving crucial decommissioning projects over budget.
It suggested successive governments have failed to "get to grips" with the hoards of waste stored at the site.
The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority said it is facing up to the challenges.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2013/feb/04/sellafield-management-criticised-commons-committee
Further criticism will be heaped on those managing Sellafield when a court case opens on Thursday that will look into claims the nuclear operator breached environmental permits in 2010 by dumping four bags of radioactive waste in a landfill at nearby Lillyhall without authorisation.
Workington magistrates court, Cumbria, will consider nine charges, although the law has since changed to make it easier for Sellafield to dispose of certain low-level waste materials at Lilyhall.
Management at Sellafield said they did not want to comment before the case, which has been brought by the Environment Agency and the Office for Nuclear Regulation.
The government is currently trying to strike a deal with the French company EDF on a power pricing formula that would convince the company to proceed with new reactors at Hinkley Point in Somerset and elsewhere.
But EDF and other companies interested in building atomic power stations know that any bad publicity around the industry will undermine already-shaky public confidence.

Centrica pulls out of project to build new UK nuclear plants and launches £500m share buy-back
Centrica has scrapped plans to take part in the building of new UK nuclear reactors, blaming spiralling costs and delays.
Great news you would think but Centrica's withdrawal from nuclear represents the exit of the final UK player in new nuclear development.
EDF is understood to be in talks with China Guangdong Nuclear Corporation over replacing Centrica in the venture and buying part of EDF's 80pc stake.
But even if a replacement can be found Centrica's parting shot over ongoing uncertainty around costs and timetable will be deeply unwelcome for both the Government and for EDF.

WSJ: Tensions Flare as Japan Says China Threatened its Forces

TEPCO misled Diet panel, averted quake-damage inspection at Fukushima plant
“Tokyo Electric Power Co. misled a Diet investigation panel and cited “dreadfully high” radiation levels to effectively block an inspection for possible quake damage at the crippled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant.
“’(TEPCO’s explanation) was absolutely false and seriously obstructed the investigation,”’Mitsuhiko Tanaka, a former member of the now-disbanded Diet commission, said in a statement submitted to the chiefs of the two Diet chambers on Feb. 7.
“Tanaka asked the Diet to inspect the No. 1 reactor building to see if isolation condensers–key safety components at nuclear plants–were damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, 2011.
“If the emergency cooling system was damaged by the magnitude-9.0 earthquake, stricter quake-resistance standards would be required for nuclear power plants, further delaying the restarts of idled reactors around the country.
“The isolation condensers stopped working soon after the earthquake struck, which is believed to have contributed to the early meltdown of the No. 1 reactor.
“TEPCO has denied they were damaged by the quake.
“Tanaka, a former reactor design engineer, was responsible for on-site inspections for the Fukushima Nuclear Accident Independent Investigation Commission.

“He and other commission members planned to visit the plant on March 5-6 last year after receiving reports that subcontracted workers had seen water on the fourth floor of the No. 1 reactor building following the earthquake. Two tanks and piping were holding water for the isolation condensers.
“But Tanaka gave up on that plan after TEPCO said the reactor building was pitch-black and dangerous to enter.
“In reality, a cover over the building transmitted 10-16 percent of sunlight. It was also equipped with powerful mercury lamps….”
