    US_NPS Palo Verde 1;2;3 (AZ) @ 100 % SEISMIC MONITORING COMPUTER OUT-OF-SERVICE https://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc-collections/event-status/event/2017/20170925en.html#en52745

    "[…]

"This event is being reported pursuant to 10 CFR 50.72(b)(3)(xiii) for a major loss of emergency assessment capability at the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station (PVNGS). On September 21, 2017 at 0915 MST, the seismic monitoring (SM) computer was declared non-functional for the performance of a planned surveillance test. On September 21, 2017 at 1201 MST, the SM system computer became non-responsive during the performance of the test. Control room staff attempted to reboot the computer and were unsuccessful. Maintenance and troubleshooting efforts began thereafter to initiate repairs. As a compensatory measure, PVNGS procedures for seismic event evaluation provide alternative methods for event classification of a seismic event with the SM system out of service.

"On September 22, 2017 at 1500 MST, maintenance personnel performing software repair efforts determined hardware replacement is required. The required component will not be available before 72 hours from the start of the event. Because the SM system is not expected to be restored within 72 hours, this condition is being reported as a planned event constituting a major loss of emergency assessment capability with viable compensatory measures in place.

  • Africa is implementing Nuclear power on a wide scale to mine and build nuke plants.

Is this a problem? You bet it is!

The instabilities in many places in Africa poses not only a terrorist threat but also quality control issues.

So what if there is a problem? And what about even more proliferation of nuclear materials? Not only do these plans (education programs and implementation of industry to build these proposed reactors) increase the chances of a terrorist gaining the knowledge to build a dirty bomb, they increase the chances of world wide contamination issues from accident and mismanagement on a profound scale…

These proposals and implementations only create a shortcut to renewable energy in a area of the world where sun and wind can (and will) do the job.

A sad truth to see a whole heard of people working to produce this world ending technology when they are in the unique position to prove renewable energy not only works but can do the job without the risks of even more needless nuclear poisons bleeding into our atmosphere.

    Power for homes and industry?

This is not the goal of these programs.

Atomic Africa – Clean Energy's Dirty Secrets:

    https://youtu.be/b1ym46pnSK0

It's obvious that solar and wind along with nat gas plants to balance the load and led technology fully implemented from the start of any program to power homes and factories is the real answer and it's less costly when building a infrastructure from scratch.

    • q Farthington MacMananus

Yeah it's awesome. Even though South Africa is virtually ideal for solar power, and I would wager some parts of northern africa not only very suitable for solar but also wind power. No no. we're going with nukes, oil gas and fucking fracking. I fucking love it when things make sense.

Additionally, the fracking here, would happen to occur in a region of the world that compromises the most indigenous and unique floral special in the fucking world.

Now you must understand the logic there, there are many flowers here and that's fucking disgusting. So, let's shove some shit into the ground and ruin it. Woohoo.

      • q Farthington MacMananus

        *floral specie.

typing errors, sorry, I recently passed out in the sun and just woke up. I pass out quite often these days, ah well, I'm gonna claim narcolepsy is to blame. I mean, not my narcolepsy, the fact that virtually everyone's afuckingsleep.

        • q Farthington MacMananus

South Africa having the vast majority of unique flower species, in the fucking world. You can account for almost 50%, if not more (I don't quire remember and neither will you) by just including Australia and New Zealand too. Why not? Cement is so much more uplifting and grandiose, after all.

Now your little shitty part of the world with the last piece of shit mutant GMO flower bastard fucking reject garbage which is probably actually some fucking inbred maize bullshit, can also win awards!

Science is so fucking great I want to piss on it all day, I hear nitrogen is important for their growth.

          • As far as flowers go…

We know that this industry rapes the earth wherever it proliferates…

Turn a beautiful place on the earth to a wasteland and a sickness zone in short order for greed? Oh yea and you can't go in and inspect it even if it's in your backyard…

That falls under security for criminals and national security huh…

How about that neon sign in the window? Is that little glowing sign in the shop window a justification for the mass death and sickness that effects thousands of men women and children in that area alone?

And that's if everything is working properly according to these corporations that do these crazy things themselves…

….and it's for the record research and statistics already proven and published.

Blind eye? Uneducated eye? Doesn't matter as long as this is allowed to continue…

Death and poison in the environment always follows one of these projects…

            …that's proven fact.

What to do, what to do, ohh what to do…

Well ya just can't build a bomb without the nuclear power industry…

What Keeps Nuclear Weapons from Proliferating: The hardest step in making a nuclear bomb:

            https://youtu.be/OcgKDSwINOA

            Well known fact so…

            What say we…

            Stop Nuclear power now:

            https://youtu.be/2YKBE9byqNo

        • Yep you know they are (virtually everyone's afuckingsleep) for one reason or another…

Juice with your vodka will help but ya gotta make the juice yourself with fresh fruits and vegetables…

One person even said I was cheating by putting vodka or Mezcal in my fruit juice…

But the truth is if you can get it down your gullet, it really doesn't matter how you do it, just that you do it…

Wow we could write a book on that subject huh…

Ego and ethics would be a good name for that one!

Fresh foods are key, good juices, good whole foods and good whisky, vodka and mezcal (distillation removes pollution) are the proofs…

So check this one and realize that if you don't have cancer you don't have to follow this program exactly, if you do have cancer this one could save your life and your happiness…

          http://gerson.org

And don't take my word for it…

…Just listen to these folks that did it and are glad they did and asre still alive and gee golly what do you know? Health and happy too……

          https://youtu.be/1BE2OzOMdIk

          • q Farthington MacMananus

Had a wine and fresh fruit smoothie a few days ago, does that count, or is it also cheating? I really dont like vodka or whiskey very much. I mean half the whiskey isn't even whiskey anymore.

            • Nopper that's a perfect food and cure if you do it from pure fresh and live fruits…

              But you knew that…

Common sense for some, a mystery for others…

Can't say education is the key because I've seen too many people that were educated on paper that have no clue about this true key to health…

The world is in fact polluted so without the proper tools (whole fruits and vegetables) no good outcome is expected…

Same for lies and greed and needless ego the produces nothing but the numbing down of arts of natural healing through simple whole and pure foods…

Them there pills just won't do it…

Your'e better off smoking pot or tobacco that ever eating a pill for a cure to anything…

A 1/2 cent pill sold for 20 bucks would be the obvious explanation there…

Kinda like a nuclear program that the evidence proves (and has been proven so for decades) will kill thousand just in the small area around the mines, refinement plants and proliferation of radioactive metals, byproducts and wastes from the endeavor…

Then we get to put up with risk from the reactor wastes that will kill for eons…

              That's what we call a "no brainer"…

Solar? oh the clouds, My neon sight just won't work rigt now. nuclear oh I'm dead or sick and dying from those nuclear clouds…

These people love to bet but know nothing about the real odds…

A sucker for anyone that does…

              Luck?

              Not thinking so….

      • Try this before fracking 🙂

Take the slats out of you master bed and then stomp them out in the back yard and put chemicals onto them that degrade the integrity of the wood slats… Oh and then go get a drink of water cause you'll be thirsty right?

Chances are if you jump into that bed you'll loose some altitude…

Class Claims It Was Bilked for Costs of Abandoned Nuke Plant Project https://www.courthousenews.com/class-claims-bilked-costs-abandoned-nuke-plant-project/

    ELLEN ROBINSON September 26, 2017

(CN) – A class of South Carolina residents claims in court that SCANA, an energy holding company, violated a federal racketeering statute by charging customers for the cost of a multi-billion dollar nuclear project that won’t be completed.

In a federal lawsuit filed in Columbia, S.C. on Sept 22, the class says SCANA and its partner on the nuclear project, the Santee Cooper utility, knew the project was coming undone, but continued to deceive the public and the Public Service Commission with optimistic statements that allowed them to continue to bill consumers for the work.

The lawsuit names only SCANA as a defendant. Santee Cooper is not a party to the litigation.

The partners abandoned development of the nuclear plant on July 31, and SCANA had spent $9.8 billion to bring it to fruition.

The holding company then announced that consumers will be charged $2 billion over the next 60 years to cover the cost of shutting the project down.

The class claims SCANA and Santee Cooper increased utility rates 14 times to cover project costs. It claims the executives were aware the plan was headed for failure from the beginning.

The complaint says that even after Betchel Corporation released a 2016 report pointing to significant problems with the project, SCANA awarded top…

"Security personnel reported to the Main Control Room that at time 1000 CDT [on 9/27/2017], an alarm indicated that a secondary containment door was open beyond the normal delay time allowed for entry and exit.

Security personnel responded and found the door open and unattended with the dogs extended meaning that the door was unable to be closed.

Security personnel secured the door at time 1004 CDT.

No deficiencies were found with the door.

The fact the door was open and unattended beyond the time allowed for normal entry and exit results in Technical Specification 3.6.4.1 'Secondary Containment-Operating,' not being met because surveillance requirement SR 3.6.4.1.3 is not met.

This surveillance requires that doors be closed except during normal entry and exit.

By definition in NUREG-1022, when Secondary Containment is inoperable, it is not capable of performing its specified safety function which in turn makes this condition reportable in accordance with 10 CFR 50.72(b)(3)(v)(D)."

Secondary Containment was declared inoperable and TS Action Statement 3.6.4.1.A was entered.

The pressure rise was due to unexpected isolation of an exhaust valve in the Reactor Building ventilation system during electrical switchgear inspections.

"On 10/02/2017 Callaway personnel completed the 10 CFR Part 21 evaluation. Of the transmitters identified above, only one is currently installed at Callaway in location BNLT0930, Refueling Water Storage Tank Protection A Level Transmitter.

No instabilities (oscillations) have been observed in this transmitter but plans are being made to replace the transmitter.

"If one of the susceptible transmitters were installed for RCS flow application (low flow reactor trip function), the allowed sensor drift to accommodate changes in transmitter performance would be required to be limited to 1 percent of instrument span per an 18-month operating period.

Current margin available within the set point uncertainty analysis for this Reactor Trip function is 0.62 percent of instrument span.

The observed shift in output of 10-20 percent of instrument span would thus exceed the available margin for this protective function.

Therefore, the safety function for this device could not be assured for all transmitter configurations.

This condition could create a substantial safety hazard due to the loss of safety function of a basic component which meets the criteria of major degradation of essential safety-related equipment.

Group Opposes Plan to Haul Uranium Through Flagstaff https://www.courthousenews.com/group-opposes-plan-haul-uranium-flagstaff/

    SCOTT BUFFON October 3, 2017

Haul No, an organization against uranium production, has formally opposed uranium hauling through Flagstaff by putting a resolution through the City Council. They also plan to protest in front of City Hall on Oct. 10. The resolution attempts to ban uranium producer Energy Fuels Resources from using city roads to haul uranium.

Energy Fuels plans to transport uranium in open-bed trucks with tarps secured over the top. Haul No claims the possibility of cargo spills and uranium dust escaping through the tarps and tainting the environment and communities are consequences too severe to allow on the road.

Citing state and federal regulations, Curtis Moore, Energy Fuels’ vice president of marketing, believes Haul No’s opposition is misinformed.

“I will tell you that the people who are opposed to this are badly misinformed about what we’re doing, badly misinformed. What we’re doing is not dangerous. It’s not harmful to people or the environment. It’s very responsible and can be done very, very safely,” Moore told Courthouse News.

Along Savannah River, Nuclear Depot Eyed Warily Despite Safety Assurances https://www.courthousenews.com/along-savannah-river-nuclear-depot-eyed-warily-despite-safety-assurances/

    EVA FEDDERLY October 2, 2017

AIKEN, S.C. (CN) – A proposal to ship “highly enriched” nuclear material from Germany to Joint Base Charleston and then transport to the Savannah River Site by rail, is being panned by a citizens group that says the plan is not in the best interest of the general public.

Last week, the Savannah River Site Citizens Advisory Board voted 10-9 to oppose the shipment of 900 kilograms of uranium. Two members abstained.

In fact, on Friday, just three days after the advisory panel vote, the Savannah River Site released its annual assessment of its impact on the local environment, a report that says its impact on its neighbors has significantly diminished over time. [ translation: They aren't poisoning their neighbors as much as they used to. ]

Fortunately, the report says, air and water sampling conducted in 2016 showed tritium releases “continued an overall downward trend …” and that as a result, “SRS did not significantly increase potential radiation exposure to the public.” [ not significantly increase as in only a few more people got cancer not a lot of people ]

To address these concerns, the Energy Department created the Radiological Education, Monitoring, and Outreach Project. [ oh joy ]

    [ cont. ]

    • freebywill

Although the advisory board voted against accepting the nuclear material from Germany, its recommendations are not binding. The Energy Department will consider the board’s input, but still has the latitude to make whatever decision it wants regarding the material.

The material in question is actually of U.S. origin. It was sent to Germany in the 1950s for research purposes as part of President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s “Atoms for Peace” program.

Five years after the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant accident, the highest radiocesium (137Cs) activities outside of the power plant site were observed in brackish groundwater underneath sand beaches. We hypothesize that the radiocesium was deposited on mineral surfaces in the days and weeks after the accident through wave- and tide-driven exchange of seawater through the beach face.

Global Anti-Nuclear Campaign Coalition Wins Nobel Peace Prize https://www.commondreams.org/news/2017/10/06/global-anti-nuclear-campaign-coalition-wins-nobel-peace-prize

by Jessica Corbett, staff writer Published on Friday, October 06, 2017

The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) won the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday, at a time when, as the committee said, "the risk of nuclear weapons being used is greater than it has been for a long time."

ICAN was granted the award "for its work to draw attention to the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of any use of nuclear weapons and for its ground-breaking efforts to achieve a treaty-based prohibition of such weapons," said Norwegian Nobel Committee chairman Berit Reiss-Andersen.

The committee described ICAN, a coalition of non-governmental organizations in 100 countries, as "a driving force in prevailing upon the world's nations to pledge to cooperate with all relevant stakeholders in efforts to stigmatize, prohibit, and eliminate nuclear weapons."

The coalition recently played a notable role in garnering support for the historic United Nations Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, which was adopted by 122 countries on July 7. The nine nations with nuclear weapons—the United States, China, France, India, Israel, North Korea, Pakistan, Russia, and the United Kingdom—declined to endorse the treaty.

Congressmen Exposing Secret Army Program of Spraying Radioactive Chemicals Over US Cities http://thefreethoughtproject.com/us-congressmen-finally-demanding-answers-about-govt-spraying-chemicals-on-americans/

    By Rachel Blevins – October 7, 2017

The idea that the United States government purposefully sprayed, injected and fed hazardous chemicals to countless Americans during the Cold War is one “crazy conspiracy theory” that has significant evidence behind it, and three members of Congress are finally demanding answers.

Democratic Congressmen William Lacy Clay of Missouri, Brad Sherman of California and Jim Cooper of Tennessee all represent areas where Army records reveal that the U.S. government conducted secret testing of zinc cadmium sulfide that included radioactive materials on vulnerable and poor populations.

Martino-Taylor said she began researching the health effects of radioactive materials and tests on vulnerable populations without consent in St. Louis for her doctoral dissertation at the University of Missouri-Columbia. When she presented a colloquium on the preliminary research findings in September 2012, she said she was shocked by the attention it received.

“They targeted the most vulnerable in society in most cases,” Martino-Taylor said. “They targeted children. They targeted pregnant women in Nashville. People who were ill in hospitals. They targeted wards of the state. And they targeted minority populations.”

More dirt caves in during work to stabilize Hanford nuclear waste tunnel
    http://www.tri-cityherald.com/news/local/hanford/article176975261.html

By Annette Cary October 04, 2017 11:05 AM

Work to fill a Hanford nuclear waste tunnel that partially collapsed started, and then stopped, overnight Tuesday after some of the dirt used to initially stabilize the tunnel began to cave into it.

The minor cave-in early Wednesday morning was around a box where workers were injecting grout, a concrete-like material, into the tunnel.

No radiological readings above those anticipated were detected, and none of the workers were at risk, according to the Department of Energy.

An estimated 650 truckloads are expected to be required to fill the nearly 360-foot-long tunnel.

DOE still expects to have the tunnel grouted on schedule by the end of the year.

No More Nuclear: Japan's Biggest Utility Turns to Blockchain in Power Pivot
    Oct 10, 2017

“The Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) is no stranger to the risks of over-centralized energy sources.

“Perhaps best known for the nuclear meltdown of its Fukushima Daiichi power plant in 2011, the largest energy utility in Japan is now looking to blockchain in an effort to prevent another catastrophe.

“However, from distributed wind generation using tiny windmills to smart batteries that store power purchased when it's cheap to buy, alternative energy initiatives have historically been individual philanthropic pursuits.

“Jeffrey Char, director of TEPCO's venture capital arm, though, believes blockchain can help provide a business model for these innovative ideas and, in the process, lessen Japan's reliance on centralized nuclear power….”

The world’s population is still being subjected to the continuous fallout of the 170 megatons of long-lived nuclear fission products blasted into the atmosphere and returned daily to earth by wind and rain – slowly poisoning our bodies via the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink.

More than 400 nuclear bomb factories and powerplants around the world make "routine discharges" of nuclear waste into the environment. Thousands of nuclear waste dumping grounds, many of them leaking, are contaminating soil and water. The production of America’s nuclear weapons arsenal alone has produced 100 million cubic metres of long-lived radioactive waste.

Greenpeace USA study of the toxicity of the Mississippi River showed that from 1968 to 1983 there were 66,000 radiation deaths in the counties lining its banks – more than the number of Americans who died during the Vietnam war.

The nuclear establishment consistently claims that the everyday doses from nuclear plant discharges, bomb factories and transportation of radioactive materials are "insignificant."

    Rosalie Bartell, author:
