Yes–that is awful, but maybe he was spared suffering?
Right now I am very angry that they recently sent one of the last Sumatran Tigers from the National Zoo in D.C. to the Yokohama Zoo in a suburb of Tokyo, post-nuclear disaster!! The idea was to breed it with another rare foreign Sumatran Tiger from Holland who is still living there to further the chances for biodiversity and reproduction for the species… It formerly WAS a great plan, but NOT NOW!!–?? This tiger does not get an informed choice and I don't think the extra radioactivity (measured as high) will help its fertility either!!
http://nationalzoo.si.edu/Animals/GreatCats/TigerCubDiary2/
I think this is a bad decision. By the way, the author of Fukushima Diary evacuated from Yokohama and now he's feeling much, much better. I don't think this tiger should be there!!!
What kind of safe meat & water can it get there?? It will be poisoned. What on earth are they thinking?

Addicted to 4 hours/day plus of normally sunny CA road-bicycling, and refusing to ride through any precipation, I have only missed going out one day so far this year: our desert cities CA rain records show 1 day of .32 inch – the day I went to the library instead – and a second day with .03 inches, total of 0.35" precip in 2 days over 7 months thru 7/27/12.
We tell ourselves we are in a good location to "shelter-in-place", from both contaminated rain, and from contaminated economic credit and debt contraction.

While I'm sure that under the circumstances a person that understands the true nature of what has/is happening thanks to the arrogant, corrupt nuke industry who is concerned for themselves & their loved ones health might sometimes mistake symptoms being displayed which are similar to radiation exposure. But in this case after seeing a spontaneous abortion happen in the case of their otherwise healthy daughter, followed by a rare & BAD form of breast cancer suddenly appear and just this week be lucky enough to be found free of cancer after a lengthy fight with IBC Stage3B-I don't just dismiss "anomalies" noted that seems like the radiation levels are elevated back to Spring 2011 status anymore, and I am seeing "things" that point to another release event recently-but maybe not from Japan?!! The US radiation levels via radnet, etc. have shown the highest gamma & beta levels in almost a year and I have personally noted a "pins & needles" effect like I did on April Fools day 2011,headaches, nosebleeds, and a few other "dejavu" moments and I have to wonder if I'm the only one taking notice of such lately? Is there something majorly changing for the worse in Japan,or is there something else bad happening "in the neighborhood"??!!I recently read something from another venue that suggested the possibility that another "US" nuke facility may have "gone belly up"?!!-Being in Chicagoland & downwind of almost all of the 11 NPP's in IL alone is a logical reason to be…

We purchased what was supposed to be 4 eight week old pullets (young hens). Now, 6 weeks later, we have determined that 3 of the 4 are roosters. When we went back to the person that sold them to us, we were told they were shocked by how many roosters and hermaphrodites they got from the batch they had sold and kept. They said they had never seen anything this bad before, and have sold may pullets over the years. So I wondered if other people are observing a sex bias since Fukushima. I have understood that radiation exposure tends to favor more males than females. Does it also lead to more hermaphrodites?

Just wanted to report that a few seemingly very healthy, smart & successful people that I work with have been ill…
For example, one had a heart attack at an early age…and now
one is being diagnosed with a serious autoimmune disease, MS…
It seems a little unnerving. I know they aren't watching their diets and have been known to get caught in the rain…? But, they have no other reasons or signs of likely illness until this year….
Relatives down in E. TX have been faring well with the arid climate and summer break from the Jet Stream?… Most people are just bopping along, but some of these medical problems I hear about seem uncanny! Has anyone had any similar observations?

@alasanon: you must remain objective in how you perceive these incidents. The "Fuku Effect" will not be as prevalent for middle-aged persons as it has already been for newborns and the aged.
Think of the Fuku Effect as a bell-curve distribution; with the youngest (babies and toddlers) and old folks being most vulnerable. Young children (formative bio-organisms) will accumulate radio-toxins and show the effects within a few years. Moving forward, grade-school children will take from five to ten years to exhibit signs of it. Teens-to-twenty-somethings will require ten to twenty years. Thirty-to-forty year-olds will take ten to twenty years. Fifty-and-on age groups will succumb to previous decades of radio-toxin exposure and other aggravating influences; with 'enhanced' deterioration from the Fuku Effect as they progress in years.
The aggregate-quantity of victims will be on the order of ten percent of the population. What is of equal import is the genetic damage being passed-on to future generations. As we progress into the next century, we may see the 'butterfly effect' in fifty percent or more of the population.
I'd ask that you guard against seeing every premature death as being attributable to Fukushima or nuclear power. You should apprise yourself of their immediate effect on human health, but it's likely the long-term effects will far exceed your worse fears…
Report Comment
I totally agree that the full impact will not arrive for years, but it will register!!
I just wonder if this unprecedented disaster might be that one additional toxic pressure on people that can send them down the line toward some shocking illness!!

Report Comment
@alasanon: I'd shutdown the EPA in a blink. They only serve to green-light corporate policy. When knew from day one that they were formed to assuage public outrage at the damage that was being done to our environment. (Remember, it was Nixon who signed off on its creation. That should've been enough clue to their real agenda.)
In fact, I'd have trouble keeping any of the alphabet-agencies open. They're all abject failures. I can't think of a one that's fulfilling the will of the American people. Perhaps you've noticed, America is in total disarray. Then again, maybe they're fulfilling some other objectives not spelled-out in their stated charter…
Report Comment
They are missing the boat more often than not. But, there needs to be some oversight…some THREAT of oversight…or all hell would break loose.
Environmental laws are just about the only thing between us and BP & company dumping in our backyards & taking our firstborn children!
Report Comment
Money is not free speech, contrary to what the Roberts Gang at the Supreme Court says. Aftershock, first, get the money and lobbying out of the politics. Then elect honest representatives, senators, and presidents. After reforms, we can have honest rule making and corporate oversight as a result. Government of, by, and for the people. All the corporations are doing is stealing our money and despoiling our land. We don't have to let them rule the nation for us anymore. Time to change that.
Report Comment
The only problem, without the EPA no one will comply with anything. Certainly the EPA needs to be reformed. Can only do this with an honest and conscientious administration in the executive branch. The problem is lobbying and allowing corporations and foreign nationals to contribute to election funding. Also we need run offs so 3rd party candidates can have a chance. Also need to abolish the electoral college. Also the caucus system in the primaries is completely corrupt. This should have just one primary in every state all on one day. And the air waves should be free for political candidates. And any candidate caught lying should be disqualified from any election.

Instead of a fresh smelling rain it smelled like cat pee. I cannot recall having ever encountered that smell after a rain. My septic is okay and I don't own any cats. (?)
I also wanted to note that I accidentally pricked the tip my finger on my right hand with a pine needle that was on the ground several days ago. The next day my right hand swelled up like a grapefruit and really throbbed. Knowing that pine needles are a high absorber of fallout it certainly made me think. What if that's the one that gets me? Sorry about that for your family!…Chernobyl was quite a preview and for real. At least they seemed to take it seriously back then. Now, in the U.S., people seem blissfully unaware of the possible magnitude and long-term impact to our food supply. It's a bit surreal on a daily basis. That said, many are actively avoiding Japanese foodstuffs and the sushi places do look pretty empty!…
Some of my friends, along with my intensive encouragement, have been avoiding anything for their families that is not local, if possible. They try to skip the produce from California, specifically. (HUGE loss there, to the world!!) It is a challenging task, but some people do have a clue!…

….Very sorry to hear about your health problems.
Far too many stories like these means that the U.S. must have been exposed to higher levels of radiation than revealed, OR that lower levels of radiation can do much worse damage than revealed.
The fact that a "JOINT" statement with the EPA and DOE was released says it all, because the EPA should not be releasing a joint statement with any other agency. The EPA should be a completely independent and stand-alone agency so as to maintain intellectual honesty & independence.
The fact that a JOINT statement is released imo leaves the integrity of the statement into question.

I have to add that the Flu season has indeed been insane here on the east coast, U.S. I feel like I'm one of the only persons who hasn't caught it (and I've actually taken precautions to reduce my radioactive exposure, thanks to sites like this). It seems like a sick ward wherever you go these days!…
Moreover, it is an INTENSE strain and people stay ill for weeks, if not a month! It often leads to pneumonia. I know several cases of pneumonia, and one family has a father in the hospital, on oxygen and an IV, for the Flu!…Another otherwise healthy young man could not shake it and injured his rib from coughing so hard! (from a flu??)
Some say there are more cases coming down from hard hit areas of NY and NJ after the Superstorm Sandy. I noticed that NY declared a public health emergency. It seems to be extremely contagious and will run through families and schools rapidly.
Personally, I have never seen so many ailing people in one winter in my entire life, especially for a very mild winter here. I suspect impaired immune systems post-Fukushima are a contributing factor! If you read about Belarus or Ukraine and how the Chernobyl meltdown & explosion affected the populations, there is a clear pattern of everyday illnesses like the flu, respiratory infections, and pneumonia becoming epidemic to the point where almost no child can stay well for long…to this day!… I don't think it's a coincidence.
However, sunny CA is not reporting flu much, so?…
Report Comment
Excess radiation is known to weaken your immune system–enough said!
I just think the example of how kids are always ill with colds, flus, etc. in affected parts of the Chernobyl zone…TO THIS DAY!!…is extremely illuminating.
Report Comment
But, I think CA and a few unpopulated states like ND are the only places that are not having a flu epidemic now. p.s. The flu shots are 50/50 at best. I don't use them & I haven't had any flu.
Don't forget, people are dying from this flu in record numbers this year!!…
At least in CA they get plenty of Vitamin D from the sunny weather and there is steady, warm weather and no hurricanes to help their immune systems! (looking on the bright side!!)
