    london radiation update

    28 june 2012

clear dry weather after a night of showers

for 3 days i have watched the gieger range at 0.09 to 0.16 mcSv/h with the average hitting the top end more in the evening and the bottom end in the morning..

some peaks but they are at 1 per hour, if that today,, the peaks have been reducing over the past days and now seems to be 0.21 mcSv/h for a quick peak, returning quiclkly to the 0.12 average (approx)

concerning the fessenhiem reading of loads of zeroes and the subsequent switch offs, the latest release is not supported by the local monitors like the other 2 releases.. so i guess the first 2 gaps/spike was the engineer making adjustments to the offending monitor and the second 2 look like removals because of "natural" radon/sarc … the amounts on the second are not co-oberated by local monitors either in germany or france.. interesting.. maybe they are switching off before small releases to keep the monthly quota down??

the uk has relatively cleanish air with the winds coming from the south and east.. so north west europe is good for now.. but boy what a month with only 2 and a half days in a row of cleanish air…

      @sue

      thanks for the info …

its amazing how people are missing the small details i have found.. and you made an amazing informative contact there.. these seemingly little things are of great import.. and i am glad you made the effort, arcy currently kicking himself for not thinking of that! thats the bueaty of enenews, someone will always catch the forgotten item..

your activism is doing good work imo.. and it is also an inspiration, as many of your post are.. they have helped my projects enourmously as had bnb, mungo richard anne etc (to many to name).. a right international conspiracy! :)

hope you caught my last post on the off topic discussion thread .. about olympic security being dangerously bad and they will blow up vans and probably motorbikes carrying giegers :(
the video is by a journo who is secretly embedded with the militarised GS4… its a much watch!! ;)

take care and keep up the brilliant work.. where will you post an update? and where?

the msm are rubbish to let a story like this slip with all the worry about SP4.. you can see how the media is being managed by ogilvy and maher/WPP.. just a little info, so it can easily be twisted later… :(

GS4 are also plonkers.. they have no clue in fascillitation and training.. training by the numbers and free spliff.. really! wonder how many of these GS4 guys are going to be on acid during the olympics??

basically the stuff this guy found out was gobsmacking and gs4 should be outed now and the police should be brought in to oversea the druggies and thugs oh and sweet irish girl who work at the olympic security.. i use the word security LIGHTLY!! best bit of investigative journalism this year.. he should get an award for uncovering the lax and faulty security.. wish i had cut and posted the description more now!!

now off to get up to some mischief.. might need a new youtube channel for my next project… stuff like that! ;) lol

          @ wide awake

          forgot the best bit

he was videoing personel missile launchers (about 4 or 5) boxes of ammo and other stuff,,

no soldiers were present for the 30 seconds he filmed..

so he showed the dangers of bring fallujah to london.. the soldiers were sloppy in the security of their weapons..

will do a transcript here as any video footage will be bumped now i had a chance to think about it.. the video will turn up anyway.. try daily motion etc regularly..

I listened to the link you sent about security at the Olympics and yes, it was mind boggling. Worries about Olympic security was mentioned on the national news yesterday evening so I guess that as it was 'out there' they felt that they had to say something. I have since heard about another whistleblower who was fired for criticising the lack of security regarding peoples bank details when ordering tickets.

Did you spot Jebus's post about the unplanned outage at Heysham on Monday? I couldn't find anything about it this morning. That's 2 unplanned outages over one weekend. I think I'll start keeping a closer watch on British NPP's.

Thanks for the 'shout out' arclight, but you know, it was your bravery and tirelessness in doing what you do that inspired me to step up.

Ahhh, Heysham NPP unplanned outage might have something to do with this from last Sunday – flooding.

    Hi from Sydney.

I'm getting one 10 seconds spikes every 2 or 3 hours. My background radiation floats around 0.15uSv/h. Spikes are around 0.45uSv/h. These short term spikes are seen in my SOEKS counter.

Question to SOEKS users: are you seeing the same behaviour in your SOEKS counters?

If you have a cheap SOEKS, you can set the alarm to 0.3uSv/h, plug it in an USB port and let it run.

Soil, water and dust seem to be clean. These spikes seem to be atmospheric.

Similar spikes have been seen indoors and outdoors.

Current background at this moment is floating around 0.15uSv/h as usual .

hi kunzen, I'm sitting at 0.15 to 0.17 μSv/h at my desk.

not sure about spikes, haven't had any alarms, my unit doesn't log.

about to go for a walk, so i'll take a look along the way.

i took a walk down to the harbour shoreline, had 0.09 μSv/h, rising back to 0.12 μSv/h as I wandered back away from the shore and slightly uphill.

          Hi richard,
I did the same thing yesterday. Went to a walk close to the shore line. I got readings in the same level (below my usual background about 0.15). Again, no evidence of soil/water contamination. No evident vegetable faciation. I'm guessing these spikes are more evident above 30 meters from sea level.

An interesting experiment would be walking in the harbour bridge and watch the numbers.

Comparing SOKES and GMC-300: SOEKS seems more stable. SOEKS is not as feature rich as GMC-300. But SOEKS seems to present a more reliable reading.

    london radiation update

the rads are ranging between 0.08 to 0.18 mcSv/h with the average moving from 0.11 to 0.13 mcSv/h in the suburbs and a little more in the center..

little patches of quick peaks to 0.37 mcSv/h but they are not consistant or regular..

looks like the tap has been turned of for nearly a week.. interesting note though..

the dust in the atmosphere is quite thick and we get the odd small light shower that brings down the dust covering cars and motorcycles from london to devon cornwall (a blogger on the south western coast reported the same type of rain and heavy dust drop at the same time.. the dust then covers the vehicles even more in the dry bits..

is this from the nearly 4 weeks of nuclear releases?? i think so.. it is a shame no one is able to test this..
is it Pblead ? from the radon process or other depleted isotope emmissions? but the timing is good for it being nuclear pollution..

might be an idea to eat 150 grams of dark choclate a day and plenty of co-operative orange juice from south america.. oh the hardship.. :)

i am keeping my eye on the rads and will notify of any changes..

today was a little higher but it has since dropped to the 0.11 mcSv/h average (approx) and i am seeing the bottom end of the range get to 0.08 mcSv/h

        hi kunzen

        i have a soeks too..

my readings are a bit less (see my post) but the pattern is similar..

the dust i am discussing is slightly radioactive having gone through its half lives like be7 and radon to Pblead so the radiation levels do not get as low as you can find in some parts of japan.. a good reason for the japanese to keep them switched off..

londons background will be topped up by further releases :(

your soeks measures beta so could it be from uranium mining processes?

you will get gamma radon as well as beta that will stay in the environment for some time..

wish i had been able to measure japans air during the whole switch offs to work out the time to get cleaner air, but they are getting there, sp4 not withstanding/standing :(
its been a bit of a surprise for me that! and not unpleasant :)
some small succor in this dreadful situation.. imho

"..Peak ground level ozone concentrations declined by almost 30% since the 1980s. However, emissions throughout the northern hemisphere have led to background ozone levels increasing by about 15% between 1987 and 2010
•The amount of metals deposited in the UK from the atmosphere greatly exceeds the amount of metals reported to be emitted from anthropogenic sources by up to a factor of 10, thus it is unclear where all this metal originates.
•Over the last twenty years, large decreases in rainfall acidity (85%) and sulphate (75%) have occurred and biological recovery of freshwater ecosystems is slowly progressing
      • Nitrogen deposition has widely decreased plant species richness in a range of habitats of high conservation value in the UK and this shows no signs of improvement
      • Ozone reduced UK wheat production by 1.2 million tonnes in 2000, representing 7% of production…"

"..Furthermore I did not understand the”Isotopic mixing line”, is that just a line to guide
              an eye?
The point of the line is indeed to guide the eye. It shows the basic fractionation that
is present, to some degree, in all samples: The ozone fractionation (O3-1) and then
C2864goes towards the fractionation for the other processes. It also shows that O3-UV-γ-1
appears to be a linear combination of O3-UV-1 and O3-γ-1. We will add the following to
              p. 5048 l. 17: “The isotopic mixing line in Fig. 2 shows the basic fractionation present in
all samples from the ozone process towards the fractionation for the other processes.
Following the mixing line we note that the values of both. . .”. The line is also explained
in the caption of Fig. 2.
I did not understand why recovered mass in O3-3 sample is 100-fold to O3-1? How
much mass was in O3-gamma-3 and O3-UV-gamma-3?
Yes, it is puzzling why there is more in the last bottle. Due to the bubbling process
where the liquid and air in the bottles are mixed with magnetic stirrers some liquid is
transported from bottles 1 and 2 to bottle 3. It may be that the liquid being transported
is processed along the way, resulting in an accumulation of sulphate in the final bottle. The line starting on p 5047 l. 7 will be changed to: "Note that the yields in the
experiment without UV and gamma radiation increased for each bottle counting from

Authors state that in atmospheric [SO2] the efficiency of gamma-radiation related
mechanism drops drastically. The atmospheric significance should be possible to assess based on the data because the ionization rate and [SO2] are known. Is it negligible? Can it explain any of the observed ”missing” sulphuric acid in atmosphere.
In current form the connection of paper’s conclusions to ”atmospheric chemistry and

so, with all the scientific excellence they dont even know what isotopes might be doing to our atmosphere??

and it looks like there might be a chemical reaction causing the creation of ozone.. one of the pollutants not tackled by the science effectively as the background levels have risen in the northern hemisphere..

According to the findings, published in the journal Circulation, the blood levels of several inflammatory agents increased — more than doubling in some cases — after ozone exposure. This finding “caught us by surprise,” said Robert Devlin, a toxicologist with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and lead author of the study. “We think it’s one of the more important and significant findings.” Heavily polluted cities such as Beijing and Mexico City often have extremely high ozone levels, and ozone in U.S. cities such as Los Angeles and Houston can reach levels equal to those used in the experiment…."

    CPM 32 – Total Count 649 – Speaker ON
Enter, Enter, Enter, Down Arrow, Left Arrow, Left Arrow (about 12 seconds)
    CPM 33 – Total count 654 – Speaker OFF

Thank you for your data files. I imported them into Excel to draw comparisons with mines. The values from August 2011 show an average value of 15.83 CPM over a time 24 hours. The graph looks like the one of a normal background radiation, that is the usual cosmic ray shower. Although the spikes from the seventh to eleventh hour are a bit uncommon (average value of 16.38 ) in respect with the behavior I've been observing here in last months. I mean I'd expect to see those spikes more or less equally distributed in time throughout a 24 hour test. Anyway there's nothing there that makes me guess it's something different from cosmic particle bursts. Instead, the situation seems different with the data values of last June 30 which show an average value of 79.34 CPM. If the data had been collected by Inspector, the average value would have seemingly been about 114 CPM (79.34 x 1.44), or 34.2 uR/h (0.297 uSv/h). Still I wonder if that event could be related with solar activity, but for now I can only speculate about that. The average of the values that you reported from June 30, from 20:37 to 20:46, is 13.0 CPM. Considering the above conversion factor of 1.44 as a valid estimate, the average value would have been 18.72 with Inspector. That means that your town might have pretty low background, given that the normal background is 44 CPM (max. 65, min. 27 typically) in my town in Center Italy.

I bought one GMC-300 and one GMC-280 because Inspector + pancake is a too big equipment for me to walk around in my town to check some things I'm curious about. I needed something smaller. I don't want to answer people's questions about this and that, even because whatever you say they become suspicious or find you guilty of something, at best of having caused anxiety to them, whereas imo anxiety would be such a healthy symptom for my fellow citizens to have in these days.
Up to date I haven't been able to do anything for lack of time. I'm limiting to check air in my flat while working at my desktop with the geiger software running in backround. GMC-280 is the same as GMC-300, but it is supplied without geiger tube. In the following article, an advanced hobbyist suggests to connect a pancake probe to GMC-280 through an HV connector, (a common BNC is OK for that), and then to adjust the voltage to the value requested by the probe by rotating a trimpot that the instrument is already equipped with (a VTVM is needed for this, though)

            http://spazioinwind.libero.it/andrea_bosi/appunti/2010/gmc300.htm

Other solutions are possible. For example, one could build a tiny probe by enclosing a LND 712 mica end window tube into one 1 inch diameter – 7 centimeter long PVC pipe, so to extend the GMC-280 detection capability to alpha particles. That would be quite a good solution for me to go out with a GQ Electronics equipment. I'll give it a shot this month.

Oh, I was hoping the radiation was going down because of the heat of the fires and extremely hot weather we're having in the Midwest. Thought maybe the higher temperatures would cause it to loft higher. Guess not. Maybe it was a lull caused by the shield put on the #4?

We had much lower readings when the fires were worse. This must be coming from Fukushima. I think it is coming from all the dust from the demolition and whatever set off the frenzy to cut down those walls.

I'm 71 years old. It is just getting worse everywhere.

    News Release
    Oregon Parks and Recreation Dept.

    June 29, 2012

    Media Contact:
Chris Havel, Director’s Office, Oregon Parks and Recreation Department
    Desk: 503-986-0722 // Cell: 503-931-2590

Tsunami debris drop-off sites open on coast; 211 info line opens for reporting debris

A network of 32 drop-off sites on the Oregon coast are now ready to receive beach debris washing ashore from the tsunami that struck Japan in March 2011. The drop-off sites are free and are a combination of state parks and independent recycling and transfer stations located in every county [see list attached at bottom of release]. Visitors and residents can call 211 (or 1-800-SAFENET) to report tsunami debris they see on the beach.

Schedules vary for the drop-off locations, and visitors are encouraged to visit http://www.oregon.gov/OPRD/PARKS/tsunami_debris.shtml for a digital map with complete detailed locations and hours, and a list of common questions and answers about tsunami debris.

The drop-off sites will accept debris in official beach cleanup bags produced by SOLV. Beach clean-up bags are available at state park campgrounds (locations listed below and online at http://oregonstateparks.org).

    · Much of the small debris is rigid foam and plastic. Don’t break up the foam. Put it in the bag, and tie it shut.

    · Residents and visitors who see a piece of debris too large to fit into a bag should drag it above high tide if possible, then report the date and…

    location.

    · Beach visitors who find tires, appliances or other large objects should not attempt to bring these items to the drop-off sites on their own; report them instead.

    · Debris with living organisms, should be reported (with a photo if possible, location and date) then moved above high tide or removed from the beach, bagged and delivered to a drop-off site. Never move organisms to another body of water (even at home). This will reduce the threat of invasive species.

All tsunami debris reports may be submitted by email to beach.debris@state.or.us (with the location, date and a photo if possible), or by calling 211 in Oregon coastal counties. 211 is operated by a nonprofit organization under contract with the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (1-800-SAFENET is an alternate number for the same service). The 211 number can also be used to report hazardous materials on the beach—fuel drums, propane tanks, gas cans—and hazards to navigation seen offshore (such as abandoned boats and shipping containers). 211 operators will connect callers with the correct agency to complete the report. In an emergency, however, always call 911.

The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department expresses deep gratitude to the Oregon Marine Debris Team (SOLV, Oregon Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation, Sea Reach, Washed Ashore, Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition), 211info, the Oregon Refuse and Recycling Association, and all the coast waste haulers for their immediate…
